Loss of Packet with Ethernet Over SDH

Hi all,
I have a strange behaviour when I connect 2 giga optical interface of 2 cisco 7600 over an SDH link (7600 - ADM ----sdh----ADM - 7600).
I can observe loss of packet even with a simple ping with size 100B...but the misterious is that if I start different parallel sequence of the same ping (ex 10000 pckts)..after the 3rd all works fine (all the 3 ping have loss no more)!!!
Furthermore if I use fastethernet instead of gigibitethernet, all works fine.
Any Idea?
Many thanks in advance for your support

Reseat the card it solves the problem. Ensure packets Drops but no CRCs or BIPs it means due to the hardware failure .

  • Gigabit Ethernet over SDH

    Hi all,
I am trying to get a new Gigabit Etherent link up from a service provider. We have 2 GSRs with 1000 Base SX Gbics connected to this providers (Nortel equipment) equipment. All our equipment has been tested, looped etc so I believe the problem lies with interoperability between our Gbics and the Nortel GE over SDH equipment.
Does anyone on this list have experience of GE over SDH(Sonet)? If so are there any issues I should be thinking of?
    Any direction/advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Eoin

Do you know the specific Nortel equipment is? Is it Optera ? Which model?
Do you know the specifc model number of the blade / interface?
Any additional information you can offer could help alot.
    Thanks
    Scott

  • Wake on Lan works with Ethernet, not over Wi-Fi.

Hello, after several months of tests I came to this conclusion.
Wake on Lan only works with Ethernet for my iMac. Wake on Lan over Wi-Fi works for a few hours, but if the iMac is asleep for 6 hours or so, it becomes unavailable... On the other hand, with Ethernet it's always available even if it sleeps for an entire week.
My iMac isn't that old (mi-2011), so I guess it should handle Wake on Lan over Wi-Fi. Is it a software issue?
    - I've got a MacBook Pro since Snow Leopard 10.6 and now with Mountain Lion it handles Wake on Lan over Wi-Fi without problem.
    - I've got my iMac since Lion. Does the iMac only handle Wake on Lan with Ethernet and works differently compared to the MacBook Pro?
I prefer to use Wake on Lan over Wi-Fi because for the tests I've placed my iMac in the living room in order to plug it to the Time Capsule, but the right place for my iMac is in my bedroom.
I tried to change the MTU size as it is described here: http://osxdaily.com/2012/08/02/fix-os-x-mountain-lion-wireless-connection-proble ms/
Note that "Wake on Lan" is checked in my System Preferences, I don't think it's my router's fault, because my Apple TV, AirPort Express, iPhone 5, iPad 2 and my Printer don't disconnect even when they're asleep (I'm talking about my printer and Apple TV in that case).

I understand that, but if your router is not an Apple AirPort Base Station then it introduces an element of uncertainty. Apple has implemented many changes related to wireless networking recently.
You are complicating matters by changing networkoversleep:
networkoversleep - this setting affects how OS X networking presents shared network services during system sleep. This setting is not used by all platforms; changing its value is unsupported.
Solving problems like this requires that you simplify your network environment and eliminate its unknowns. Using third party routers and making unsupported changes runs counter to simplification.
The iMac stays connected to the Time Capsule about 6 hours during sleep. Then it dissapears...
The iMac wakes periodically (every few hours) to inform your router of its network presence for Wake on LAN demands. Try changing your router's DHCP lease period to something longer than a few hours. For a home environment, a few days is more appropriate. This may not solve the problem, but it is better than making unsupported changes to your system.

  • How can I create a new TC backup with ethernet, so I don't have to wait two days for a new wireless backup?

How can I create a new TC backup with ethernet, so I don't have to wait two days for a new wireless backup?
Several times in the last year, I've gotten a message that Time Machine needs to completely redo my backup. Using the wireless connection, this takes almost two days. Is there a way to do the backup with ethernet and then switch back to wireless? Thanks.

May I know what is needed to make sure the MacBook is able to see Time Capsule on ethernet?
Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the 2Wire gateway to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the Time Capsule.
If AirPort Utility cannot "see" the Time Capsule now, you will need to perform a "hard reset" by holding in the reset button for 7-8 seconds or so and then reconfigure the Time Capsule. You can use the same Time Capsule name and password, etc. as before.
Configure the Time Capsule to "Create a wireless network" and select the Bridge Mode option when it appears during the setup using AirPort Utility.
Once the Time Capsule is configured, restart the entire network again. Power down everything, start the 2Wire first and then start each other device after that one at a time about a minute apart.
Now you can connect your Mac directly to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule for the backup using another Ethernet cable. In general, about 20-25 GB per hour will transfer.
The Time Capsule will broadcast a much faster wireless network than the 2Wire can provide, so you might want to leave the setup "as is" for awhile after the first backup is complete. If you decide to use the Time Capsule as your main wireless access point, you would want to turn the wireless off on the 2Wire since two wireless networks in close proximity can create interference problems.
Or, if you want to use the wireless on the 2Wire, you could turn off the wireless on the Time Capsule. Then backups will occur over the 2Wire wireless, or over Ethernet.
I don't really recommend the "Join a wireless network" setting on the Time Capsule for most users, but you could go back to that setup as well if you want after the first backup is complete.

  • Ethernet over Mains solution??

Hi All, at the moment my desktop PC is hardwired into the router but due to building work that needs to change, at least temporarily. So I’m thinking about Ethernet over Mains adaptors. While I’m doing it I would really like an adaptor by the TV. So I need three devices, one for the router, one for the TV and one for the desktop.
I know that these things don’t share surge adaptors and a few other things and I’m not quite sure about putting one on a standard extension lead, so I’m looking for adaptors with pass through mains.
If it makes a difference I already have a Devolo dLan 500 AVtriple+ on the way from Amazon that I ordered thinking it was a triple pack, not a single triple adaptor but £60+ I was expecting to get the solution for that not a single device. Also I don’t need them to be wireless and I only get 5mbps broadband and if I need a high volume transfer between devices, which is rare, I would be ok plugging into the router which is a home hub 2.
Having already messed up I am starting my research again but thought I would ask here in case somebody has already solved this or has any advice.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Thompson,
I have just set up a powerline network, using devolo devices.
So, basically you want to plug your router into a network device, so your internet connection can be shared remotely by your PC and your TV/Sky using ethernet cables? Devolo do three pack setups, in the following guises - the second option having powerline pass through connectors...
You could go for either this:
Devolo dLAN 500 Duo Network Kit
    or this (power pass through):
Devolo dLAN 500 Duo Plus Network Kit
I am only stating devolo as I have knowledge of them, and are a piece of cake to set up - literally plug in and away you go, you don't even have to bother with the software that comes with them to monitor the network if you don't want to, although it is worth it as it will auto detect the firmware on the devices and let you know if there are updates available.
Devolos support seems pretty good as well, I am currently in the middle of a very extensive email exchange with their support team in Germany because i emailed them purely enquiring why I couldn't see a device on an old laptop using their software. They have been very helpful so far.
Dare I say it I would stick with the 500mbps as devolo no longer produces the 200 versions, although are still available from various outlets.
You could buy another make, getting a two pack and a third single adaptor, but I don't think there will be much difference in price when all told. At least with the above packs they are all in one box.
For additional information, I don't find these drop off in terms of speed that much. I have a device plugged in upstairs which is connected to my router, then I have a 500Av Triple + Wireless downstairs, into which is linked a slingbox and my sky box, and a wii connected wirelessly. The transfer speed between the two devices shows 494mbs, so a drop off of 6mbs. I also have an older 200 Av in another room, which shows a transfer speed of around 178mbs.
    Hope the above helps.

  • My TC won't startup with ethernet cables connected.

It will start up fine w/out ethernet cables, but with ethernet, it won't startup.  I have two wired connections, my thunderbolt display/mbp and my cannon printer.
It will sit with amber light solid.
When I disconnect the two ethernet cables, it will startup fine.  Then I connect the two cables and everything is good.
This is a new from apple store today 2tb TC.  It's taken about 2 hours to get it setup until now I've figured out the ethernet cable issue.  Is there a fix?  I'm probably going to exchange it tomorrow or in the next couple of days if there's no fix provided.

Well, it's working fine today.  I'll continue to try it over the next couple of days and if it happens more, I'll take it back for an exchange.  It happend quite a few times last night.
I have apple care for my mbp, so this should be covered on it.  About 1.5 years left.
    Thanks.
I'll update this post if I end up needing to exchange it.

  • SG200 high "Packets With Errors"

Hi, I have a SG200-18 switch that's been in production for about 6 months. About a month ago we had a severe ice storm and everything lost power including the switch. Afterwards I started to see very high "Packets With Errors" in the interface statistics in the web gui. When looking at the Ethernet statistics, the errors are mainly "Internal MAC Receive Error" with only a few "Frame Check Sum" errors.
Before the power outtage I was seeing about 0.035% packets with errors on the heaviest loaded interface. After the power outtage I saw 1.60% packets with errors on the same interface. Other busy interfaces saw similar raise in packets with errors. Again these errors were mainly "Internal MAC Receive Error" with only a few "Frame Check Sum" errors.
I contacted Cisco and was told that the firmware could be corrupted and that I should update to the latest firmware version: 1.3.5.58 (I was running 1.3.0.62). I updated to the latest firmware (including updating the boot code). Verified that the md5 check sums listed on the web gui match that of the firmware files that I loaded onto the switch.
It's been a couple days since upgrading the switch firmware and I've noticed that the packets with errors has gone down; now around 0.3% on busiest interface. Should I be concerned by this number of packets with errors? What does "Internal MAC Receive Error" even mean?
    Thank you.

    Tom,
I've seen a similar issue on SG300 switches.
While I haven't completely eliminatated cabling issues (I can only continuity check the cables which are ducted and perviously terminiated and the continutity check is ok) I have had an increase in "Internal MAC Receive Error" counts following upgrades to 1.3.5.58 and 1.3.7.18 firmware versions.
In my case I have four switches connected in a star topology around a central switch and interconnected via LAG groups- three swtiches are showing error counts on some ports (a mix of LAG and single ports) and one has remained error free.
At least one LAG group is showing "Internal MAC Receive Errors" at one end of the LAG but not the other- this isn't the behaviour I'd expect from a cable fault.
The "Internal MAC Receive Error" counts appear to increase disproportionally when the port or LAG is under load (eg speed testing LAN connections between Ruckus AP and Zonedirector).
Is this type of behaviour consistent with what you have seen?
In your last posted you said:-
"But I've also found upgrading to 1.3.5.58 there is a lot of tail error  in some situations and a factory reset and manual configuration clears  those errors entirely"
Are you able to definie those situations any more? Is factory defaulting the switch and restoring a backup a workable sloution or should it be a completely manual restore (ie re-creating the configuration)?
I can of course try a factory default and manual configurationre- but it will take some time and planning to implement!
    Kind Regards,
    Andy.

  • Can't use my TC as bridge with ethernet

    Hi all --
Here's my set-up : I use my ISP box as wifi router. I added my Time Capsule wirelessly to the existing network.
Wireless network works fine : I can access Internet and the TC drive.
Here's the problem : I'd like to connect a PC via ethernet to the TC in order to access the web (the PC doesn't have wifi). I get no connexion...
I tried to connect my Macbook to the TC with ethernet and got the same result.
Here are some bits of info : the TC gets its ip address (192.168.1.21) via dhcp from my adsl box, BUT both the PC and the mac get a different IP address (i.e. 194.169.x.x) when connected to the TC via ethernet. Could it be that the TC is assigning ip addresses even though it's designated to act as a bridge ?
I am at loss. Thanks for any help.

on the summary screen, I have "wireless mode : join a wireless network" (may not be the exact wording since I'm on a foreign system), and the IP Adress is 192.168.1.21.
Again, the TC is NOT connected to the ISP box via ethernet but Wifi.
On the Internet tab, I have :
    - connect via : wireless network
    - configure IPv4 : via DHCP
    - IP Address : 192.168.1.21
    - subnet : 255.255.255.0
    - router : 192.168.1.1
    - DNS server : 192.168.1.1
    - Connexion sharing : off - bridge mode.
    Hope it helps...

  • Issue with cisco ONS 15310. Slot with Ethernet ports, designed for bridging.

Hi, guys. I’ve got an issue with cisco ONS 15310 sdh optical network. I’ve got a special slot with Ethernet ports, designed for bridging. Assume, we’ve got to multiplexers, named A and B with ports A0 and B0 respectively. The ios console of these slots says, the configuration is as follows:
no ip address set on these ports
    Ports are administratively up
    Auto mdix
Bridge groups are the same on these ports.
    Dot1q tunnel.
I’m trying to monitor a device with an ip-address connected to port B0. It answers ping if I connect the notebook directly to a device. But if I connect the notebook to port A0 and ping the device pluged in port B0 through the optical network, it doesn’t answer. I tried connections with straight and cross cable.
Guys, who set the network said, it should work as a point to point bridge with no extra configuration. But it doesn’t. I used wireshark sniffer to lookup what’s happening on port A0. All I see is cdp-s from port A0 and self-announcements of the notebook.
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

  • Sample Configuration For Ethernet over MPLS.

I am looking for a sample configuration and scenario for the Ethernet over MPLS.I would appreciate if I get some explaination with it.How the LDP is configured for the directed sessions (as per Martini draft) and the auto discovery (as per kompella draft) with respect to Ethernet over MPLS.Cam anyone help me in this ?

Here's a sample EoMPLS configuration on the PE routers:
    R1:
    interface Loopback0
    ip address 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.255
    interface Ethernet0/0.10
    encapsulation dot1Q 10

    interface Ethernet0/0.10
    encapsulation dot1Q 10
    mpls l2transport route 1.1.1.1 10
