Loss of picture quality - HD Go Pro Camer

I have a go pro helmet cam HD. whe i watch the videos straight off the camera with no editing the picture quality is fantastic. However when i edit the videos in Final cut Express the picture quality goes down. It becomes less clear, and a bit dull. Still good quality but not what the camera actually produces.
How can i edit it to get the quality back?
Thanks

MP4 video that you are importing to FCE is a delivery format that FCE does not handle directly.
It most likely has a smaller dimension size than the HD codec (Apple Intermediate Codec) that FCE works with resulting in soft looking finished video/DVDs.
Knowing your Seqeunce setting would confirm this!!
Right click the Seqeunce icon in the Browser and select item properties for info.
Do the same for a clip in the Browser and get the info.
If you tell us the info about the Sequence and Clips we will be in a better position to assist.
You will most likely get better results by converting your clips to AIC before importing them to FCE.
A search on this forum will provide the details on "how to".

  • Loss of picture quality?

I am making a commercial for class and am having a problem exporting .avi files to the .mp4 files. There seems to be some loss in picture quality. The pictures are darker than in the .avi files. My professor says that theoretically there should be no loss and I just need to adjust my lighting but when looking at the two files side by side on my computer there is a difference. Am I doing something wrong when I am exporting the files or should I expect there to be a difference since the file size is very different? Suggestions would be very much appreciated!

  • Significant loss of picture quality in iMovie, what are my other options???

    Hello All,
I am new to the Mac world moving over from windows.
Hooking up my dv camcorder (non high-def) to my TV gives a pretty good picture.
If I use iMovie to import from my camcorder and then iDvd to burn a dvd and play the DVD the picture quality is significantly reduced (looks worse than VHS!).
I am reading that this is uncorrectable through any settings available in iMovie or iDVD. This to me is unfathomable!
Being a newbie in the Mac world I don't know what my other options are.
I read about iMovie HD and Final Cut Express but don't know how they position and can I achieve better picture quality preservation.
I want my camcorder picture quality better preserved. I’ve certainly gotten much better results on windows with various packages (but have little experience).
I came into the Mac world believing that this sort of thing is what Mac was great for so a bit surprised.
How do you folks get around such a significant picture quality loss???
My home movies through iMovie and iDVD look embarassing for circa 2009!

I convert my imported dv files to AIC at 1080p before editing.
There is a small quality drop using this approach, I find it acceptable but some others don't.
I have added an original dv movie clip, two exports in different formats of the same clip as prepared in imovie 09 and another of the same clip exported to back to dv as prepared in imovie 6, to a disc image of a DVD created in iDVD.
I don't feel the differences represent the differences some here are reporting they see themselves, see what you think

  • Picture Quality & Final Cut Pro 5.0

I just finished a big project using FCP - I really like the program, but the picture quality is less than perfect. In fact, it's pixelated, especially where there is motion. I've tried upping my monitor's refresh rate, but that hasn't seemed to resolve the problem. Does anyone have advice for me? Is this a known issue with FCP or Quicktime, or is this more likely a hardware problem?
    Thanks,

Shane's Stock Answer #2: Blurry playback
ONLY JUDGE THE QUALITY OF YOUR MATERIAL ON AN EXTERNAL NTSC MONITOR, OR AT LEAST A TV.
    1. Disable overlays on the canvas
    2. Make sure you've rendered everything (no green bars at the top of the timeline
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=24787
Video playback requires large amounts of data and many computations. In order to maintain frame rate and be viewable at a normal size, only about one-fourth of the DV data is used in displaying the movie to the screen. However, the DV footage is still at full quality, and is best viewed thru a TV or NTSC monitor routed thru your camera or deck.

  • Loss of picture quality by enlarging on HD TV

I have my mac mini connected to my tv and have enlarged the display by switching it to 720p in settings. Will this now mean i am loosing picture quality?

I wouldn't think quality would be affected, just size displayed... are you experiencing problems?

  • Can improve picture quality in Dvd Pro?

I just made my first DVD in DVD Pro! Just a simple DVD with first track start.
I am disappointed about the quality.
I took it from 2k clips, assembled them in FCP, exported to Compressor, choose (MPEG 2) best quality max 90 min (Footage is only 2 min) and burned it. I am a bit ashamed to give away so soft images.....I was told, a dvd con only hold SD and not HD.
Is there any way to improve the quality?
I shot it on 4k. But most dvds I have seen have a better quality.
    Dorian

no, I have not looked at a TV. Don't even have one... haha.
Only monitors. But I see all other dvds on my computer monitor.
Well, of course, it is downgraded to 720x480. But is there a way to tweak the quality a little bit? I used already 2 passes setting, all others are default settings in Compressor.

  • The new Nokia Pro Cam is not user friendly AT ALL ...

After the Amber update on my Lumia 920, I downloaded the new Nokia Pro Cam app, due to most people claiming that it produces very good quality photos. I agree that the photos clicked using Pro Cam are of better quality than those clicked with  the built in camera app. But this Pro CAM is not at all user friendly.
First thing is the most frustrating. The built in camera app allows taking photos by just touching anywhere on the screen, but the Pro Cam required you to touch one specific spot on the screen for this purpose. This is highly inconvenient, especially when taking self photos using the main camera. I know that the photo can be clicked even using the camera launch button, but this serves no purpose because pressing that button actually shakes the phone a bit and makes the photo blurry.
The next thing is, the settings of Pro Cam are denoted by symbols and not text. Camera professionals may feel comfortable with these images, but for the common man, its really difficult to understand what these symbols actually mean. I don't understand how Nokia came up with the idea of complicating matters by replacing the text with symbols for settings.
Finally, there are no settings at all for the front camera, which is also a disappointment becasue we're forced to use the deafult settings.
Hence, in spite of better image quality with this Pro Cam, I'd rather stick with the built-in camera app because the Pro Cam is too cumbersome and tedious to use. So what do you people feel about this Nokia Pro Cam?

    Hi,
Maybe the following explanations can help.
    1. There is a plus point to this also. Suppose you need to only focus on a subject and not shoot straight away. You can do that by touch the screen where you want to focus, without actually taking the shot. Shot can then be taken by pressing the dedicated on-screen shutter button.
I actually prefer it this way. You just can do that in the WP8 camera app.
    2. Here again, all the symbols used are standard photography symbols you will find on any dedicated camera. Even they don't have full names, only symbols. This should not be a major problem, you will learn very quickly what all these symbols mean.
    3. People usually use front camera for video chat (or to check if your hair is ok or not!). The requirement for video chat is that you don't need a very high end image/video quality. Moreover, the front facing camera quality is not that good too, so there is no point is providing all that functionality used for rear camera.
You can try using Nokia Glam Me lens, to add some post processing to selfies.
    Best Regards,
    Ayushmaan

  • Importing Youtube videos into Premiere Pro results in picture quality loss - how to prevent this?

I have imported several downloaded youtube videos in 720 or 1080p into Premier Pro but when playing in the video editor the picture quality is a little blurry and not as sharp as the original video is on youtube. Is there a way to import the video onto Premier Pro without losing the original quality?
Many thanks to anybody who can provide any guidance.

Whenever Premiere plays back video, it's going to appear to be of lower quality than the original. This doesn't mean that any quality has been lost, and when you export you will have your original quality again.
Just make make sure that the dropdown in your monitor next to wrench icon is set to "Full." If it's set to "1/2" or "1/4" that means playback will be really low quality (to speed things up). Even at full though, it will be a little less sharp than the original when it's playing. When you pause, then you'll see the original quality again.

  • Mid 2009 13" MBP iSight camera bad picture quality in photo booth

My daughter's stock mid 2009 13" MBP 2.26 ghz intel core two duo has a problem with the isight camera. The isight camera is built in to the screen. The isight camera works some of the time flawlessly and other times it comes out real grainy and with small colored pixels all over the screen like colored static (about 20% to 30% of the photo booth screen is affected but the rest of the screen outside of the photo booth app is unaffected). She only uses it in photo booth but we've tried the iChat app and the same thing happens there too, once she couldn't get the MBP to connect to the isight camera (it just showed a black photo booth screen), so she closed the lid of her MBP and reopened it and it worked. All of the software and firmware is up to date and we've tried resetting the PRAM and the SMC, it didn't do anything to fix the problem. It seems like there's a wire loose in the computer from the screen to the computer base, only because I can move the screen back and forth and the picture quality changes, the amount of static on the picture will move, go away or get worse. I had the screen changed in early 2010 (January or February) (the MBP was about 5 or 6 months old then) at the apple store under warranty due to dirt under the screen's glass (manufacturing defect). The photo booth picture static problem comes and goes, but here lately it comes more than it goes. The screen in general is in good shape and doesn't have any detectable problems with it, it has a good picture and no dead pixels, the problem seems to be only isolated to the isight camera. Can some one help with this problem? How long of a warranty is given on the warranty repairs (like the screen change they did in early 2010)? If apple does a repair on it and finds a wire that has rubbed the insulation off of it on a hinge causing a short and the isight problem, as a result of a sloppy repair from the first warranty repair, will they cover it under warranty again even if it's been over a year since they changed the screen? Also how honest will apple be if they do find out it is a problem caused from the first screen replacement, will they own up to their mistake? If I don't agree with apple's repair decision, can I get a second opinion from an outside source, third party, and if it's diagnosis different than apple's and can be proven, can I still get apple to do and pay for the repairs and labor if it turns out to be their fault from the first warranty screen replacement?
The reason why I'm asking is, I took my wife's white macbook in about a year ago for the famous cracked top cover replacement (under warranty) and when I got the computer back, the isight camera didn't work, so I gave it back, they took it apart a look at it and said there was nothing wrong with it and gave it back, then the screen wouldn't come on so after 4 hours at the Apple store they decided to send it to Austin, TX. for repairs (I'm in Ft. Worth TX.). Apple in Austin said it needed a new main board. They said the old one had water damage to it. We never had water anywhere near the computer, not even in the same room. It was working fine when we took it in, we took it in just to get the plastic top case, that cracks all of the time, replaced under warranty. And then they wanted us to pay for an $800 main board because some how while they were doing the top cover replacement it got water damaged. I argued with them and they finally gave me a one-time offer of them paying for half of the repair and labor or if I disagreed or left the store I would have to pay the whole amount if I chose to have the repairs done. So I ended up having to pay $467 for a year old macbook main board that was water damaged in their possession during their repairs. I like Apple and their products but I am worried about giving my daughter's MBP over to them for repairs because of this incident, it's an honesty issue with how honest they will be with what they find because they won't give back the old parts for analysis by a third party to verify their diagnosis.
Thanks for any info and advice anyone can give.

    Hi,
As a personal note I find long posts like this hard to read if they are not broken up in to paragraphs.
As I say it is  a personal thing.
I can give you some information about the camera and laptops over the past few years.
Basically in early Laptops of the MacBook Pro and MacBook range the cable did tend to fray at the point where it passed through the hinge.  It did take a well used laptop that had the lid open and closed frequently to cause this.  (your 2009 model might just be in that group - I have no firm dates or models I am afraid)
Later models have this rerouted so that this does not happen.
However the cable has then tended to get pulled from the camera end and become loose.
This On Line Self fix site has pages about some models  (The one I have linked to may not be yours)
I have linked in to later pictures in the sequence but there are navigation points to work back to the start.
Note:- they use pretty specifc specialest tools as well in these pics.
Doing this would certail Void any Warranty you have left.
From Posts mainly in the iChat and the iSight areas I have gathered that it seems common for Apple to replace the Screen as a whole rather than fiddle with getting solely at the camera.
Apple has this article on Trouble Shooting an iSight
Basically it says try several apps then try logging in on another Mac User account to see if it is App based or User based or in fact System wide.
If System wide then resetting the SMC/PMU is the only suggested fix.  (Which I did read you had done)
In addition to that I would add that testing should be done in different lighting conditions.
Lighting in the evening or dark that is good enough to read buy is not always good enough for the camera or is not illuminating the right areas.
Some people have reported that Starting the computer in Safe Mode (then Rebooting afterwards) seems to help.  (it clears out some caches and starts up with reduced extensions)
As to actual Repairs and any Warranty that may still be in place I cannot say.
I can say that when people post about problems with repairs a certain stores someone else will tend to post that their experience was different.
You seem to report two different experiences with the two computers yourself.

  • Picture quality, new camera?

I bought a new HD camcorder last year the the Sony Hc7. I made a movie with FCp and Color, you can view it here:
    http://www.vimeo.com/1949150
But still the picture quality is not as good as I want. Anyone know if I will get a significantly better picture if go for a prosumer camera , perhaps the Sony fx7 or even the new Fx100? I really want my images to look good enough for National Geographic , that may be an impossible dream for a non pro , holiday film maker, but will such a purchase get me significantly closer?
Anyone knowledgable about the camera market that can give some good advice on this one ?

National Geographic is a big jump up from (as you put it)holiday movies but just to give you an idea:
I have a JVC trade newsletter that features the GY-HD100U being a work horse for National Geographic and BBC shoots its speced as an entry level HDV camera

  • Camera picture quality

Hello bought an iPad2 16 g WiFi  from Comet for my wife last week on offer.  Closing down sale. Model was in demo mode.  On my macbook pro I reset it on itunes and got rid of demo mode etc . Anyway I'm rambling on.  During daytime the camera facing out  takes good pics. However at night and under artificial light the picture quality is poor and there's no flash.  I have not bought iphoto yet for this ios.  Will iphoto improve night or arfificial pics?  Will anything else?  Bit dissapointed iphoto wasnt there already.  Also pity photostream doesn't allow videos.
    Regards.

Can't expect too much from a 0.7MP camera.
You can use Noise Reduction software to clean the "Noise"

  • A huge disappointment of ics upadte for LWW is the camera picture quality!!

    HELLO SONY TEAM,
After having updated my lww with ICS 10 days ago, the most disappointment that i could find is the quality of the pics taken by the rear camera. Its a big loss for me updating my GB to ICS. The probelm with GB was to be the pics taken using the rear camera had a small size, but it had a good overall clarity. Whereas in ICS the size of the pics taken using the rear camera has increased, but the loss comes with the picture quality which if u compare with a 2mp camera would give a better result then this.
I have proof for it do compare both the pics.(both the pics are untouched)
Above picture taken with GB runing in the phone.....(size- 1.01mb)
Above picture taken with ICS runing in the phone.....(size- 1.63mb)
So, i would like to know from the SONY TEAM, that would u guys help us sorting out the image quality issue ???
    Thank You..

saptarshi.dey, please post the same scene like no 1 photo but on ICS so we can do a better evaluation .
i cant do comparison because the two photos are of totally different scene

I ran a Mini Display to HDMI lead to the TV but the picture quality was disappointing. I also tried a Mini Display to VGA lead and that wasn't much better. I tried all variations of resolutions in System prefs - Displays but nothing helped. Am I getting something wrong? Thanks all.

In addition to pixel density, you are up against the translation driver card in the TV.
If you read the fine print of computer-resolution-capability in the TV user guide, you will see a chart as tall as the manual page.  At the top is the smallest resolution capable, at the bottom is the full use of the 1080p in the TV.
Mac falls into the top 25% of the page, maxing out at 1366x768 often.  This is because the TV control card is expected to do too much of the work, but is not designed for computer-monitor processing.
I looked at the resolution charts on 2 TVs before deciding to buy a 1080p LCD monitor that has a TV interface/connector.  Computer monitor first, TV second.  But the thing is only 27 in.  Good thing TV is not as important to me as it is to others.

You can have Apple replace the logic board, but it will be at your expense.  The free replacement program has ended.
