  • IMac G5 - Pixelated Finder screen

    Hi guys,
Wondered if anyone can shed any light on this. I keep getting a pixelated finder screen - not all over but as if the screen hasn't rendered properly. It happens infrequently when I boot up in the morning & it also occured when the computer was running the black swirly screensaver - I clicked the mouse & it left a kind of line of black pixels. If I do a re-start it seems to be okay. The compuer itself seems to be running okay - I'm using quark, illustrator, photoshop, entourage etc.
This morning I had a bit of a scary moment: Booted up & again there were traces of white/grey pixels. When I booted up entourage, it opened as a black image. It allowed me to quit. I went to the finder menu & restart & the restart box came up as as a black box. I clicked in the area where I knew the okay button was & the computer restarted fine.
Anyone any idea what is going on? Do I need a new graphics card? The computer is only 15 month old. Surely it can't be on it's way out already? We've had some really hot weather - do you think it's the heat?
Any help greatly appreciated, I'm working for myself here at home & it's a lonely thing when your main business tool starts going a bit wappy!
    Thanks in advance, Mel

Mine too! Within the last week the screen started flickering and has now settled into an almost monochrome blue. My photoshop defaults are white and blue; even the flurry screen saver is on a field of blue. What gives? The RGB now seems mostly B.
My iMac g5 17'' display has turn bluish, but when i
connect an external display it seems fine. Does
    anyone know what's wrong?

    Hi,
Since I updated to Yosemite, it takes munch longer to startup my 2011 MBP and the login screen is distorted.
First, a black screen appears from 30 to 60 seconds, then a pixelated login screen (shown below) appears.
I reinstalled the OS X and repaired the permissions in safe mode. Disabled animation and widgets.

  • Pixelated enlarged screen - display issues related to external hard drive

Hi.  I had an external hard drive plugged into my macbook.  I have a second monitor hooked up.  My screen is pixelated and enlarged (I have to scroll to see the whole desktop).  The icons are rearranged and very blurry. Everything is blurry and enlarged.  My files will open, but they are all blurry as well.  When I noticed these display issues, I realized the mac was not detecting the hard drive that was plugged into the usb port. I  unplugged it and then a LOT of folders with the hard drive name appeared on the desktop and then disappeared.  I know I may have misstepped by unplugging it, but what can I do now?  I have rebooted, shut down, checked zoom and screen resolution settings, and unplugged the monitor.  It's the same when I uplug the second monitor and just view my desktop on the mac.  Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

There is a multitude of posts here addressing the dangers of using Mackeeper. But just look at this:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3691
While this particular problem may not have been caused by Mackeeper, I urge you to uninstall this piece of trash.

  • Black Big Pixels on Screen

Hi guys, this is my first post.
I bought a MBP 13' a month ago. It is my first Mac. I installed HL2 and after playing for a while (not always), I see big pixels on my screen as you can see in this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQumnHSHUmU
After rebooting, the pixels disappear and everything is OK.
Is something wrong with my MBP? Heat problems? Should I contact with Support?
    Thank you!

    iMac Intel 24" 3.02ghz / 4gb mem / nvidia | OS X 10.7.3 ( all updates where done ) | HDD WD Caviar 1TB
I checked the HDD 2 days before my mac crashed and it was free of errors, and yes I have my backups I'm just worried about the iMac and was trying to search for some advice before I take it to an AppleStore as I am not very fond of them here in Greece.
My guess was the graphics card as well.. :/
I tried the safe mode as well and again it does the same thing, it freezes with all those particles and never proceeds to the OS and pretty much after 1 minute it automatically shuts down.
    Thanks for the reply rkaufmann87.

  • Nokia N8 - Dead Pixel On Screen

Hi all.  Last week I noticed that I might have 1 dead pixel on my screen. its a little black dot that stays at about 10-o'clock position on the screen.
I tried to ignore it, but I just cant because everytime I swipe pictures left and right, the black dot stick out, and my eye is staring at the dot instead of my pictures.
I had to sent my N8 back for a new replacement. It's a shame because I am really happy with the phone aside from that stupid dead pixel.
I just hope that my new replacement won't have any new problems or another dead pixels! I am worried that Nokia quality is dwindling...
So guys please check your screen throughly for dead pixel. Let me know of your findings.  I really hope that I am the only one affected..

For sure it is sad that you had a black pixel.
But you will not be allone, And that is normal.
Think about numbers: you have thousands of pixels (around 200K for each color), Nokia is selling (hopefully) millions of N8. It is just question of probability that some persons will get dead pixels. Nobody, and this include the best quality checks possible, will be able to ensure 100% error free devices. And if it would be possible, you might not be able to pay it.
There will be always some devices with problems, For them it is important to have a good and quick support and replacement policy. And Nokia, as I know the company, is handling this quite good.

  • Changing area of pixelation on screen - why?

OK, pixelation may not be the right term. But anyway, there are changing places on the screen where there's a chunk that is like an extremely low resolution, etc.  I'm attaching a partial screenshot so you can see what I mean.
When I scroll or move, the area changes - can be even on the main "desktop" behind an open window, or on the top apple menu bar (where the apple is on the left, and the time on the right).  When I do something that sends a new image signal to the screen, it stops.
Does anyone know what is going on?? Any idea what's causing it?  I'm out of warranty. No Apple store near, but do have an authorized reseller/repair nearby.

    1680 x 1050 on a 55" TV? - Thats why!
Tv's that size are 1080p which means the resolution should be 1920 x 1080, but your fonts will get slightly smaller. (but your movies will look even better!)
A good compromise would be to set your resolution to 1280 x 720 - You will still get HD quality, but your fonts will be "bigger" allowing you do use your computer from many feet away and still being able to see what you are doing.
If you are using Snow Leopard, I believe there is an option at the top that will say "720p" or, if that does not appear, just manually select 1280 x 720.

You're welcome. Do spend more time with the API, there are a wealth of methods available in classes like Toolkit, SwingUtilities, Utilities and Robot that help solve many rather obscure problems.

  • Big rectangle pixels? - screen issue.

I am at a loss. This is what my screen looks like (attached below) it is only like this when my monitor is on, i put a black image as the background so it's easier to see. There is no physical damage to my screen, nothing looks cracked when the computer is completly shut off.  there is also a weird mark in the middle of the screen? I seriously don't know whats wrong with it, i've searched everything. Can someone help me out!? The screen also just went black on me, like it went into sleep mode by its self and then turned back on... so strange!
    thanks!

Really looks like a hardware problem to me. When you open up your screen do you hear any frictions/rumors when pulling the screen? If so, it may be the LCD cable (hope it cause it's cheap). If the pc has fallen/been damaged it most likely lost LCD contacts at the bottom of the screen got compromised (expensive). Anyways, since apple hardware test can't detect anything hardware-related at this level (only detects problems till the GPU) i suggest you take it to the nearest Apple Store. AFTER they told you what's the problem with it, you can choose to try repairing it yourself or not (post another thread and I'll gladly try to help you out).

  • Small hair/dead pixel behind screen 10 weeks old MBP

    Hello,
I have a 10 weeks old MBP and now I was browsing the web when I noticed a very small hair behind my screen
it's aprox 2-3 mm in length but it really annoys me because of 2 facts
It's in the centre of my screen
My MBP is 10 weeks old!
However it also could be a line of dead pixels.
I already read some threads about this and most of them say that I have to go to the Apple store,
but I live in Belgium? I don't know if the service is the same as in the US?
    thanks!

    Hello Michiel0lb,
No, I'm sorry but I can't be that positive.  I don't use MBP, I have never seen their guarantee and the interpretation of a fault has to be with the examiner ... in your case, Switch.    That said, if the fault is visible any decent company would want to see you satisfied whether it means cleaning, replacing the screen or the whole MB for that matter.   10 weeks is not a long time and Apple is a decent company.
I can (just) make the fault out though I'm sure it is more visible in reality.   Be sure to approach Switch in person and phone first to confirm they are able to handle a warranty matter.   Re-sellers often have facilities to repair on the premises or they will send the machine back to an Apple base if the matter is serious.    But if asked when you phone, don't say any more than your screen has developed unusual marks that could be faulty pixels.    For your own satisfaction you must ensure it is examined.
Post back with your findings ... and good luck,

  • Green Pixelation on Screen, Sound not playing from laptop speakers

I just had my logic board replaced recently and I am experiencing some of the same problems as before. I am getting a random green pixelation on my screen, mainly showing in the dark areas of a picture. Also the sound is not playing from my laptop speakers, i have to tap the lower right hand side of the keyboard to get the sound to play. Also my airport sometimes gets stuck loading and the time is showing the last time i was on my laptop. If you have experienced any of these problems please help.
    Thank you

Return the iBook for repair ASAP. It sounds like the original repair was poorly done. You have 90 days from date of repair if AppleCare wasn't used.
