Loss of Reception/signal on 4S with iOS 6.1.1 update

Since updating to iOs 6.1.1, I have noticed on my phone and my fiancee's phone there has been a loss of reception/signal. As I thought this update fixes an issue that could impact cellular performance and reliability for iPhone 4S. But it looks as if it affected it to where I now no longer get all bars of signal as before the update my signal strength was excellent all bars lit up and receiving signal was excellent since the 6.1.1 update I no longer get a full signal, I get between 2 and 4 bars shown never 5 now since update. I think a fix update should be in order to correct the issue as before it was good now it is terrible. I know others also have been compaining about battery drain on iOS 6.1.1 but I have not seen that on mine or my fiancees phone just the signal strength does not go above 4 on either of our phones like as before they would sit at 5 in our house and anywhere we would travel. Has anybody else noticed that if so please let me know so I know I am not the only to see that since updating to iOS 6.1.1. Thanks and have a nice day.

Hi again, today's journey to the Apple store was worthwhile. Not only did I get a replacement phone, it was still under warranty, but also an explanation as to what may have caused the problem.
According to the technician who assisted me, as the upgrade from IOS 5.- to 6.- is quite large, in the transfer of information upgrade, apparently the programming data for wifi and Bluetooth connectivity was lost, which apparently sometimes happens, this being described as a freak occurrence. According to the technician, if this occurs, it becomes a hardware fault and there is no repair, replacement is essentially the only option. Fortunately as I was within the warranty period, on the spot replacement was available, already with IOS 6.- on it, so was informed that the same problem would not occur.
Upon arriving home, after a minor upgrade to 6.1.2 I was able to put everything back on to the phone so it ran like it did three or so weeks ago. The other advice given was to always hook up to iTunes via your computer to do the larger updates, those that increase in whole number, as those that increase incrementally are usually very minor and are usually an addition of data, not replacement.
I hope this helps others with their problem, mine in the end was resolved within ten minutes in-store. I dread to think what situation I would have been left in if I was not within the warranty period. Good luck to you all!

Problem with ios certificate server not updating the CRL

Hi all,
The background is that i'm currently setting up a DMVPN solution with the ipsec tunnels between the spokes created using certificates.
I'm using a cisco 877 as the CA server (its running 12.4(6)T5) to provide the certificates to the spoke routers. This part is working fine - the spokes can request a certificate and get one issue all well and good.
The problem is on the CA, the CRL lifetime is set to 24 hours but the CA is not updating the CRL so when the spokes look for the revocation list (as set in their trustpoint) they are reporting an error that the CRL is out of date and won't connect.
If is do a '#sh crypto pki server' it lists a 'CRL NextUpdate timer. this has a timestamp that is 24 hours after the last certificate was revocked. The only way i can get the CRL to be re-generated is to revoke a certificate.
So, my question is, have i missed something here? I thought the CA would automatically generat a new CRL file every 24hours.

this seems to match this bug:

However it does not mention if 12.4(6)T5 is affected, only that it was found in 12.4(15)T3 and resolved in 12.4(15)T10 and other more recent releases.
I would suggest trying the latest 12.4(15)Tx, 15.0(1)Mx or 15.1(4)Mx release if you can.
I supposed you've though of it, but just in case: as a workaround you can disable the CRL check on all the DMVPN routers, obviously they will still allow connections from routers with a revoked spoke.
As a (temporary?) replacement for a CRL, you could use a "certificate ACL" with which you can kind of create a "manual local CRL" :
crypto pki certificate map certACL 10
   serial-number ne
   serial-number ne
   etc.
crypto pki trustpoint myTP
   match certificate certACL
(note the "ne" stands for "not equal" so you are permitting any certificate whose serial number is not listed)
Obviously you would have to configure (and maintain!) this on each router participating in the DMVPN so this is cumbersome, but I suppose if you don't often revoke certs it might be an option.

Heard that are a lot of problems with iOS 6.0.1 update. Is it safe to install yet on my iPhone 4?

I know a bunch of folks who have had major problems with the iOS 6.0.1 update on their iPhone 4. Basically, it completely disables the phone, often requiring owner to send in for service. Has this bug been fixed? Is there a subseqent update? I do not want to install the update until I am sure it will not wreak havoc on my phone. Thanks!

IF you don't need any of these updates - don't install them - its really that simple - and it will be many more people's rule for apple updates since iOS 6 I bet!

Anyone else having wifi issues with ios 5.0.1 update?

i updated a few days ago and have had problems getting wifi connections since. i've read on a few forums that people have also had this problem. anyone on here having the same issue? i now have to be within 3 feet of a router to get even a weak signal. sort it out apple

After that,I can't not find any wifi signal at the same place.

Enter the correct passcode to access the Wi-Fi, it is NOT the admin password for the Wi-Fi.
Or, simply plug the device into the computer and restore it from the backup there.

1st gen iPod Touch with iOS 3.1.3 - update via wi-fi?

That's basically it. I found my old 1st gen iPod Touch and wanted to update the iOS, but I am away from my computer with iTunes.
I do have wi-fi though.
I tried via Settings->General->Update. But it doesn't have an update option in settings.

A 1G iPod Touch can not be updated past iOS 3.1.3. Only the 3G and 4G iPod touch models can run iOS 5 or later, which added in the ability to update via the Settings app.

Lost photos and contacts with iOS 6.0.1 update on 3Gs HELP please

Recently updated iOS 6 onto 3GS and lost new contacts (weirdly have old contacts i thought id deleted) and photos. I backed everything up (at least I clicked for computer to do so when asked) I cannot find them on my computer or icloud.Have tried restoring backup via iTunes and nearing the end of completion error flashes with iPhone disconnected but I haven't disconnected the iPhone. I've tried this process 3 times now and continues to say the same thing. I'm really worried that I've lost my photos and contacts could someone please please help me. Thank you in anticipation.

Help with iOS 8.0.2 update

I had updated my iPad to the iOS 8.0.2 and now the update to it will not load. It freezes on the agree page?? OR how can I go back to iOS 7?? what has apple done?????

It sounds as if your iPad is becoming unresponsive when it gets to the Terms of Service page that you must agree to in order to continue with the installation. I would suggest that you restart the iPad -
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

3GS with iOS 4.2.1 update - voicemail no longer working through bluetooth?

Hi Folks.
I've been happily using my iPhone 3GS with my Jeep Patriot's bluetooth/stereo system for months (it's called a Mygig). However, I just upgraded to 4.2.1 and now when I connect to my voicemail the sound doesn't come through the system - the iPhone thinks it is sending the audio to the stereo, but the stereo remains idle. So I have to select one of the audio options (phone/speaker) to hear anything.
If however I make a phone call, or if the phone rings and I answer it, it works fine.
Even if I use voice dialling to call voicemail, that works through the bluetooth, but as soon as it has finished the voice dialling and actually calls voicemail the stereo goes back to being idle again, even though the phone thinks it's still connected.
So at present if I want to connect to my voicemail while driving I have to use the speaker. Only for voicemail. Weird!
I am thinking this is a software update issue, as it worked fine prior to the update, and everything other than calling voicemail works fine through bluetooth.
It's as if the phone isn't talking to the bluetooth properly when it's dialling the voicemail, which is somewhat of a 'hardwired' thing, given it has its own button. I tried tricking it by dialling the actual number instead of using the voicemail button, but the iphone knew it was voicemail...
Any ideas?

Yah, have the same issues since upgrading to ios421. Pretty annoying... I have two cars, and the issue is same with both bluetooth systems. I am able to make and receive calls but cannot listen to my mobile voicemail.

Aperture v. 3.1.1 glitching and crashing with iOS 10.7.5 update?

It is crashing every time I use a brush tool or do anything too quickly in general. I just updated my mac yesterday and that is when this started. I have tried restarting my computer, checking for updates, etc.

Did you also update Aperture? Aperture 3.1.1 had a bug, that might cause crashes, when applying adjustments using MacOS X lion.
You should at least upgrade to
Aperture 3.2.4
for Aperture to run reliably with Lion, if you cannot (or don't want to) upgrade to the most recent Aperture version 3.4.2.
But before upgrading Aperture, be sure to keep a backup of your current Aperture library and to repair/rebuild the Aperture library using the Aperture Library First Aid Tools (Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library). The Aperture upgrade will upgrade your Aperture library as well, so you will not be able to open it any longer with the older Aperture version. And the upgrade may fail, if the library has problems, like inconsistencies that can be caused by crashes.

IPhone 5 Time Zone Support Broken with iOS 8.1.2 Update

Just returned from a U.S. business trip where my work appointments (sync’d to enterprise Exchange account) were not showing up in the correct time zone. Everything was three hours off. Events entered on my iPhone were also showing up three hours off on my Outlook client.
But the biggest problem came when I returned home and the iPhone wouldn’t automatically change the time zone back. The “automatic” setting is not working, device time is still three hours slow (still set for Pacific time). The “time zone” is displaying as “New York.” Disabling automatic time zone set results in the correct date and time directly under the “time zone” set band, tapping on the band goes to the search screen that already shows “New York, U.S.A.” (general-date & time-time zone). Re-entering the correct zone (“New York”) does nothing different.
Just for fun, I tried it again with a manual set for “Phoenix, U.S.A.” The time display directly below shows the correct current Phoenix time (12:03 p.m.), but the device is still stuck on PST (11:03 p.m.).
Going back in and changing the time zone to “automatic” results in “New York” being displayed, but no change in device time. But disabling the “automatic” mode shows “Phoenix” again with Phoenix time directly below.
While all this stupidity is going on, a quick look at the “clock” icon show the correct New York time (with the sweep second hand), but the device time (displayed at the top of the home screen) and the alarm still displays three hours slow.
Anyone else unable to change their iPhone device time to the correct time zone?

Try doing a reset on your phone. Sounds like your carrier's time set is not getting through to your device. If the reset doesn't do it, then go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. That should do it.

Camera Connect Kit not working with iOS 4.2 software update

Since updating my iPad software to iOS 4.2 when I try to use my Camera Connect Kit I receive a message saying "Cannot Use Device: the connected USB deivce requires too much power"
Can any body help me find a way to fix this problem, or even tell me how i can downgrade to the previous software on my iPad as I am sure this is what is causing the problem as my CCK worked fine before I upgraded.

It has to have a DCIM folder, but the directory after the DCIM folder, and the files themselves, have to follow DCF rules (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designrule_for_Camera_Filesystem)..if it's the structure created by the camera it should be fine but if you change the folder to something other than DSC_xxxx and you change the image filename to something other than ABCD1234.whatever then it won't show up.
You can double check if the kit is being recognized at all in Settings -> About, then scroll to the bottom, it should say like Apple Card reader or something I forget. If it isn't, I would just reboot

Can't get or send text message with ios 7.0.3 update

after installing ios 7.0.3 i can no longer send or recieve imessages. All my old texts are gone fromthe phone.

My wife and I were having same issue after upgrading to iOS 7.0.3. I called apple support and they said it was because we were using the same Apple ID for iMessage/FaceTime on both iPhones. I created a new Apple ID (just for iMessage/FaceTime) on my phone and it seems to have fixed my issues. Using original Apple ID on my wife's phone and mms hasn't started functioning for pics yet on that device. iMessage is working fine however. We always turned the email part of iMessage/FaceTime off, so I'm not sure why it started being an issue now. FYI, I was told that iMessage and FaceTime should use same Apple IDs.
