Yeah, use your back-ups to restore your library, assuming you actually Made Back-ups...

  • CD ripping leading to loss of songs.

Hi, I am having some problems with my   itunes library. I recently ripped a cd that I bought at a store onto my   itunes. During the process a window came up asking me if i wanted to replace any of the songs that I orginally had on itunes with the songs from the CD. I clicked "yes" figuring that i would have the professional version of the few songs that i already had on my itunes. After i did this i synched my ipod. When doing this a window came up saying that " itunes cannot sych these songs because the song file cannot be found". It listed 100 or so incidents clicked okay wondering why and ejected it.Suprising when i can listen to music on my ipod that the computer claims cannot find yet not on the computer. After that i looked at my itunes music. Next to every few songs (i have about 3000 songs) was an "!" sign. When i clicked on the song a window comes up saying that "the song file cannot be found." This is very suprising because ripping one cd seemed to affect many different artists and songs.

This has also happened to me before, but i managed to solve it. Apparently, the songs literally cannot be found on your Mac. So you have to insert the CD again and instead of importing the songs, you have to put a copy on your Mac. Tried it and it worked for me.

  • Loss of songs when updating from I-Tunes

I had about 30 songs on IPOD Nano and in library of I-Tunes. Bought nine more songs from I-Tunes. The computer told me the new songs were in a different place and did I want the new file to me the main location of songs. I clicked yes.
The 30 songs were deleted (I can't find them) and I can only see the nine new songs in my Library. Updated my IPOD Nano and the 30 songs are no longer there and the nine new songs are.
Please advise on what happened and how to consolidate the 30 old songs and the nine new ones.

There are two ways to update your iPod and its music. Automatically and manually.
You were updating automatically. This means the iPod's library will look exactly like the iTunes library is is updating with. By clicking yes, you told the iPod to look exactly like the other computer (which didn't have your other 30 songs on it).
See this if you want to use your iPod with two computers...
    Using iPod with multiple computers
You would want to manually update...

Now, are those songs on your original computer? They were deleted off of your iPod but should still be on your computer.

  • IPod problems...loss of songs..not recognizing..slow...

Well here is my most recent problems...and yes, i've had many before...
My iPod has been acting up lately...even after i sent it away to Apple, they apparently did not fix it up to the standards i'd wish....i assume i'll need to send it in again and reccomend they just send a new one
anyways....it has been going slow when transfers from itunes, and will freeze up on some transfers. Then many songs on the iPod will not play or will only play a portion then skip over it and other songs.
Then recently, i went to plug the ipod into my pc and add some music, when the ipod said it no longer recognizes the songs already on my iPod and i couldn't add any to it.
Resetting hasn't seemed to work, and i can't restore because the updater app won't ever recognize that the it is either plugged in or it just freezes up or something....i dont know what to do...
any help will be greatly appreciated...and swift responses would be great...i may be able to take it back tomorrow if it needs to be...
    thanks again

  • Random loss of songs

I went to play some music from my iPod Touch today, only to discover that the majority of my library was gone. Poof! I had recently downloaded quite a bit, and all of my very recent downloads appear, but none of the older purchases and none of the music that I added from my own CDs.
This iPod has NOT been synced for a while due to a computer that fried during an electrical storm, and the fact that I've lacked the motivation to get a new computer up and running.
I do still have the hard drive from the old computer; what are my chances that my (fairly extensive) library can be transferred to the new computer?

  • Lost ability to add multiple copies of a song to Shuffle

I lost the ability to add multiple copies of the same song to my iPod Shuffle since updating my software.
Since updating my software, I lost the ability to add multiple copies of a song to the shuffle. Before the updates, I could add as many copies as I wanted. I liked having multiple copies of my favorite songs, so that I could hear certain songs over and over again when I was in the linear play mode.
I also don't have a manual update option on my shuffle. I actually don’t know if I ever had this option. I just noticed others were talking about it and that your site mentioned the option, so I was trying to use the function to avoid the automatic updating and inadvertent loss of songs that may no longer be in my library. I guess I have to live with the auto-update feature, since I think the Shuffle is simply lacking this feature that is found in the more expensive iPODs.
I just updated to iTunes 6.0, hoping that this latest update would fix my problems, but there was no change. I still have the problem with not being able to ad multiple copies of the same song.
    Any ideas?

Thank you for the tip about renaming the song. I will try it, although I think it may not help since I don't have any way to uncheck the autofill option. As it turns out, the Shuffles don't have the option for a manual update. If I change the name of the songs, it will simply erase the original song, since it will no longer be in the library. I think there is a chance it will work, until I reinsert the Shuffle to make changes. That would be OK, if it worked temporarily, so I am hopeful that it might work. I may also be able to trick the Shuffle by adding the song from a playlist, in which I have renamed the song only on the list, not in the library.
This just bugs me, since I could add multiple copies before the updates.
I just tried to change the name of a song on a playlist, but shuffle changed the name everywhere in the iTunes application. It looks like iTunes may be a little like Microsoft Word, in that it starts making “corrections” all by itself. In general, I don’t like it when things start changing all by themselves.
I may try to ditch the updates and go back to the original software.

  • Duplicates and Deleted Songs

Besides the duplicates problem, has anyone found music - installed from music CD - missing from their music library?
I've found many albums missing from the library since the recently 9.1.1.xx upgrades. The folder still contains the album art, small art, folder art, etc.. but the songs are gone.
I'll always found some links would break, but one could search and repair those. This total loss of songs is new.

If you were too enthusiastic in removing duplicates you may have removed the only physical copy of some of your files.
    *Adding new items/removing orphans*
Try iTunes Folder Watch or iTunes Library Updater. Folder Watch is much faster on the adding files front, can be set to run in the background and includes a useful exclusion feature, however it’s really slow at removing orphans. iTLU is better for this although doing it manually after looking at a list of proposed removals generated by Folder Watch is probably faster still. iTLU can also be set to update iTunes when you've used 3rd party tools to change tag info.
You may need to amend the list of file types these programs look for. My list includes
    .mp3 .mp4 .m4a .m4b .m4p .m4v .mov .wav .aif .mid .ipa .ipg .ite .itlp .m4r .pdf
Note the last 6 types won't actually be recognised in the library so should either be omitted from the search or you can add (at least for Folder Watch) individual exclusions for files you know are already in your library.

  • ITunes is not consistent while syncing songs and tones with iPhone 6

    Hi
I had iPhone 4 but 2 years ago, I had severe problems while syncing songs to my iPhone. The iTunes would miss some songs while syncing. In next sync, some songs were added but some other ones went missing. I was very frustrated with the dependency of iPhone on iTunes. Since last 2 years I was on windows/android and decided to go back to iPhone (6) hoping that things would have been better in these last 2 years... however, had a lot of disappointment.
    1. Note that I have a new laptop (Windows 8) with fresh install of iTunes. There was always problems while installing iTunes as I had to install in "adminstrator mode".  After installing, whenever I run itunes as "administrator" it lets me tweak the preferences of itunes easily, but does not allow me to add any mp3 songs to a playlist. I have to then shut down the itunes and run it normally: it allows me to add mp3s to playlist.....
    2. I have a work laptop which I use to sync work related device (iPhone 6 mentioned is never synced with this work PC) and have a different iTunes login. With this work PC, I never had problems with iTunes install or syncing to iDevice
    3. While syncing my home PC to iPhone 6, I can always see iTunes tries to transfer some songs which I know were already there on iPhone a few minutes ago. It is also "moody": it will sometimes say that "xyz" ringtone cannot be synced as it was not found!
    4. The iTunes frequently hangs while trying to sync (on step 1 of  5 of sync)
    5. I got so frustrated I had to delete all songs, from iPhone (took a while!), completely uninstall iTunes, remove iTunes library from "C:\users\"username\Music" folder, reinstalled iTunes, painstakingly created the whole library, synced. This time it was a success
    6. Apparently, 2 years ago with my iPhone 4, the same problems used to occur (I had another itunes account and different PC then).
My past is haunting me again! Please help. I am so afraid to do another iTunes-iPhone 6 sync as I fear selective loss of songs...... Please help! I have already spent 5 hours (out of 48 hours that I had been associated with iPhone 6 since its release on 19 Sep), on problem solving, reading articles and am so frustrated with iTunes sync issue that I am ready to sell this phone although very nicely made by Apple. On Android, I simply add songs to SD card and use a player called Folder Player that makes a playlist of folders with music in it. There are so many "behavioral" problems that I have come across on different forums and wonder why Apple cannot fix them?

    Hi Pamela85
Can't say much about Mac, however I discovered an issue in Windows PC that my profile did not have full access to C: drive (admin rights). Consequently, iTunes had difficulty with getting into the right mode where it could make changes. I have created a partition (D Drive), have installed iTunes there. Doing some experiements; will revert back in due course of time after doing some rounds of sync....

  • Songs come and go

    Hi,
I have my ipod for about three months now, and had no major complaints so far, but one... I never managed to get ALL my songs on my iPod. I still have 12GB left on my iPod, so that's not the problem, but my iTunes contains 2113 songs & movies, while my iPod only has 2049 songs & movies on it. None of the songs in my library are said to be missing. That's another thing, nothing to do with my iPod, but I work with iTunes 6.0.5.20 and I can't update to iTunes 7, nor can I update my quicktime. What is wrong here??
And another thin, that may be connected to the mysterious loss of songs in transfer to my iPod is that I constantly have to relocate my mp3's. They keep going astray, allthough I never move them.
Can anyone help me with one of these problems, it would be most kind.
    Thank you
5th generation iPod video 30Gb   Windows XP Pro   iTunes 6.0.5.20

    restoring... done.
I see that you run on a winXP system, well... I tried installing iTunes 7. The installer said that it didn't have enough acces to the following key:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTimePlayerLib.QuickTimePlayerApp\CLSID
I know I accidently removed a quicktime key with hijack this, but would you be so kind as to post your key please?
The only entry I have in that directory is
    (default) REG_SZ {D97F7D8D-7610-4271-82C8-61A91BD796D1}
It takes about 2 minutes to do, and it would really, really, really help me out a lot! thanks

  • TS4094 I am working on a song in GB and now my app will not open! Anybody had or is having this problem. Any solutions?

I am working on a song in GB and have had some problems. First, I could not open the song and lost it twice. Now I complete the last stage nd went to save and now GB will not open. It's trying to open at the song but can not open. I have tryed closing the program and turned the unit off but this has not helped. Does anyone have anymore ideas before I  loss the song? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried closing the Camera app completely and seeing if it works when you re-open the app ? From the home screen (i.e. not with Camera 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Ipod min has stopped being recognised

My ipod mini was installed on my windows XP and tunes bought/downloaded from itunes. Six months later and computer has stopped recognising ipod. Message says to "reset" or "restore" and only the restore option (with subsequent loss of songs) can be activated.
Need suggestions to ensure that original PC recognises ipod.
Posible cause of problem: ipod was connected to a Mac to download songs from a friend's itunes (no songs bought).
    Thanks!

I have now removed and re-installed every piece of Apple Software on my laptop. I assume this would result in the drivers being re-installed.
However, when I plug the iPOD in a message comes up 'Installing Device Drivers'. Then a message comes up that they are installed successfully, but it does also say 'Searching folders for preconfigured drivers...'. After 10 mins I assumed this did not mean anything and closed the window.
It is not convenient for me to check the other computer's drivers. Anyway, the iPOD used to work on this computer. The only thing I have done on this computer re device drivers is to start using a USB mouse (which installed drivers) and I also checked them all for updates. Only the Intel ones updated.
Needless to say the iPOD is still unrecognised in iTunes.
    Any further help much appreciated.

  • Updating to 2.0 from a computer that is not mine?

Alright, everyone. I have a small problem. I am on a trip, and the only computer that I have access to belongs to a friend of mine. Now, I can download the update through iTunes, but I cannot figure out how to backup my iPod for the big erase. I am on a Windows PC. Can anyone think of a good FREE backup option for my iPod that I can use to prevent the loss of songs and videos for the update?

Well, I decided to go ahead and update without the backup, and I will put my media back on later. The update is doable, though.

  • I joined iTunes Match on my MBP and added our MBA to the same Match account. What should the iTunes Media Folder Location be for iTunes on the MBA?

The iTunes libraries on both machines appear to be in sync, though I don't know if Home Sharing or iTunes Match is to thank for the consistency. But the iTunes Media Folder locations are different on the MBP and MBA, and I don't know if they should point to the same storage location (it's been on a drive connected to our Airport for years). I also don't know what options for Copying Files and Keeping iTunes Organized should be on the MBA. I certainly don't want the media files duplicated yet the devices sharing a cloud version.
I hoped the MBA would act like an iOS device using iTunes Match in that music would stream unless downloaded. Then downloaded music would have to be managed (deleted from the MBA's iTunes) for space reasons at some regular intervals-- just like we now do on the iPhones and iPad. The library entry for the song would remain... just the locally stored file would be deleted and the iCloud download would change back to the download symbol.
But if a purchase is made from the iTunes store on the MBA, the file is stored on the local MBA machine as well as the external drive because the MBP receives the song via Home Sharing and downloads the file.

Each iTunes client will expect a discrete iTunes library location.  The iTunes Match service will allow the libraries to be automatically synchronised along with any IOS devices that are also registered for iTunes Match.
Following making a secure backup for any given library it is possible, once Songs have been 'matched' or 'uploaded' to remove the local copies and play the Songs from the Cloud.  The behaviour on IOS devices is different, they will download each Song as it is played.
Note:  Apple is very clear that the responsibility for maintaining music files remains with the user - so it remains essential to ensure that you have your own Songs secure backed up prior to relying on the Cloud.  Should there be an issue with the Cloud resulting in loss of Songs you will need your own secure backup.

  • New Computer -Sync Questions

I recently lost my old computer to a virus that corrupted the hard drive. In the loss my songs and videos stored there were lost. I already had them on the phone though.
Now I have a new computer and I would like to get the stuff (music/Movies) off of my phone and onto my computer to use with this iTunes. Is there anyway to do that??

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer ( files/docs/pics/music/etc.)
Use your backup copy to put everything back on the new computer.
The iphone is not a storage/backup device.
The music/vid sync is one way - computer to iphone. the only exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
Also, if you sync contacts/calendars to a blank computer, it will erase your iphone contacts/calendars.
If for some reason you failed to maintain a backup, then you can enter one uniques contact/calendar entry on your new computer. You should then get the option to merger the data when your first sync.

  • Format ipod from windows to mac

I recently switched from using Windows to using Mac. My ipod is still formatted to Windows and I was hoping someone could tell me how to reformat it. The loss of songs is not a big deal, I just want to reformat it. Thanks for your help.

    Josh,
Lyssa already said how you need to the updater. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough on that part. It may help if you add some details about your computer and OS. Maybe your Mac/OS does not meet the requirements ?
BTW you can have your set up shown in a signature below each message you post, click "Preferences" in the right hand pane on the Apple Discussions pages and select "My Computer". It makes troubleshooting for other users more easy if they are able to see what your computer and OS are.
