Loss of sound in left headphone.

I bought an 80g classic 2 weeks ago and a few days ago i lost sound in my left headphone. I switched headphones to see if my headphones was the proble and still no sound in the left one and assumed its an iPod problem. Is there any way to fix this problem? or do i go to Bestbuy and exchange it for a new one?? Thanks.
Tommy

Only two weeks old? Go back and exchange it. Since you've already tested the headphones, there's nothing you can do that would not void the warranty.

  • No sound in left headphone

    This is my first macbook.
Mine is Macbook Pro 13" 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5.
    OS is OS X 10.6.8.
It was ok at the beginning but there has been no sound in left headphone from the some point which I don't remember.
My headphone works fine when it is connected to other devices like iPhone.
And left/right balance on Sys Pref is also in center.
This is very irritating for me.
Did anyone have the same problem and fix it?

sorry i am not so good with computers etc so this is maybe not help to you but this is just telling my experience=)
I had the same thing which happened but on my ipod and i took it to the apple store, and the person told me there are 2 connectors in the socket one for each earphone, and one was knocked out of place so they gave me a new iPod
maybe they will do the same for your macbook=)

  • TS3274 No sound in left headphone (it's not the headphones!)

I've read a lot of other support questions on here about the exact same issue which leads me to believe this might be an OS issue. Basically my headphones do not work on the left side (only on my first gen iPad!). They work fine on everything else. I've reset the iPad by holding down the sleep and apple key together for 10 secs, that doesn't work. I've checked both accessibility and sound settings and the stereo settings are in the middle so no probs there but still I have no sound in my left earphone.
    Please help!

Looks like nobody knows how to fix a headphone jack on here then?..........
I went to the Genius bar in Cardiff St Davids 2 shopping centre. The guy who saw me checked the headphones and said 'Yep, we can fix it for you for £199" to which my reply was "errrr - doesn't a 2nd hand iPad cost less than that?..."
so thanks Apple - thanks for nothing

  • Loss of sound to speakers/ headphones after Windows Pro 8 upgrade

    Product Name  = Satellite U205-S5034
I upgraded my laptop from XP media SP3 to Windows 8 Pro and chose the option of keeping only personal files. After the installation the laptop was running well and there didnt seem to be any problems so I deleted the old windows files. I did not however check the sound and on doing so later I discovered the issue and after reading the forum I seen the issue with the upgrade not loading the speakers driver. I have tried down loading the drivers but to no avail. I can hear the sound very faintly whilst wearing headphones but all the volume levels are on max! I have tried all the recommended fixs within the control panel etc. but still have no sound. I cannot take my laptop back to factory settings as my Toshiba load discs that I got when I purchased are not recognised. Please Help!!

    Hi Bill,
    Thanks for your helpful suggestion.
In fact I had already done that, I created an avi file (video+sound) and imported it into Encore.
It worked OK and I made the DVD.
However, the whole point of using Premiere and Encore together is that I should have been able to export/import the project without rendering or making an intermediate file, and this is not working, except for very short files.
I have raised a support case on this.
    Thanks again,
    Doug.

  • Loss of Sound Caused by Headphones?

I seldom use headphones with my iMac but each time I do I seem to lose sound, all sound. I reboot, pull com.apple sound pref., etc but nothing seems to restore the sound. Then "the stars realign" or something and the sound returns. All transpires in a matter of 30-45 quiet minutes. Postings hint of an unresolved issue but since no one is screaming about it I guess it's just a bother or I missed the one with the resolution. Does anyone have any info on this? Thank you for any info.
Oh, yeah, I do have iMac connected to Airport Express Base Station but it always continues to play iTunes music through the episodes.

Hi, it could be the H/P socket, within it's depths are miniswitches that maybe sometimes do not activate..first I would spray a little wd40 onto your h/p jack plug, then insert it into the H/P socket and GENTLY jiggle it around and then pull out, do this maybe twice..if this does not help it's probably a good idea to have it checked out by a tekky..keep us updated...L

  • No sound from left speaker headphone out

Suddenly no sound coming from left speaker through headphone output only. Records in stereo plays in stereo but no sound on left. Tried all the usual suspects ....no luck.  Any suggestions

Nowhere near enough information to go on, really. If this is a switched socket and the speaker works when it's not connected, then there's either a socket fault or a headphone fault.  Try it with another pair of headphones and see if it still happens. If it doesn't, you have faulty headphones. If it does, then you have some sort of a wiring or socket fault.

  • TS1574 Sound only from Left Headphone w/ MacBook Pro

Any external headphone that I use with my 13" Macbook Pro, the sound only comes out of the left headphone. The slider in my System Preferances is in the middle, and the headphones are all the way into the jack. Any ideas?

    Often resetting the settings helps.
    Syst.Preference > Sound > Output > External
    Try Reset SMC.

  • Loss of sound (Hard-reset and restore does not work)

    Hi,
I loss all sounds on my iPad 2 (currently on iOS 7.04). This is the 2nd time I have had this issue (had it with an earlier iPad) and had to replace the previous one (out of warranty period).  Very frustrating as it is about the same time period after purchase.  Last time, it seemed like a repeated fault with the iPad and I cannot believe I have the same issue again on a different product.  It is an expensive way of having to re-buy every couple of years for no other reason.
It did not happen immediately after an update i.e. it does not appear to be "update" or iOS version-related.
Anyone got any advice please?  The facts are as follows (and what I have tried).
    When it happened?
I was in iMovie editing a movie when all sound went from the speaker.  It continued to work with earphones plugged in, but this is now intermittent.  I have no sound on the speaker at all except for when I click sounds on the menu and change the level of ringer alert (which works on the speakers).  This seems to tell me that it is a software problem.  I have no sound on any applications or internet video or music from iTunes.  I cannot survive on the earphones as they only work for a period of time and then they fail (until I take the jack out again when it works again for a period of time before the headphones fail again).
    What have I tried?
    a) Numerous hard resets
    b) changing the side switch's position
    c) changing in general settings the side switch settings from lock rotation to mute and back again (repeatedly and in reverse to see if it makes any difference)
    d) resetting all settings - this made no difference
    e) erase all content and settings - interestingly at the stage when it asked me if I wanted to restore from an iCloud account, it was making sounds (the keyboard clicks - which don't make a sound irrespective of the click setting currently) i.e. appeared to have resolved the issue and as soon as I restored my iCloud back-up, the sound went again.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.  This post also includes a recommendation to Apple on improving its product (relating to iCloud backups) as the ultimate solution should not be paying for a replacement for a software issue (to avoid losing all my data permanently).
    My musings are that:
    a) it is definitively a software issue (on account that the speakers work in certain situations only)
    b) it appears to be that the software is corrupted in my iCloud back up
    c) it is an issue that happens regularly and is an avoidable issue/cost to Apple's customers that needs to receive higher priority in being addressed as it is built in redundancy for a significant proportion of customers.  At the very least, iCloud backups should be capable of being restored in part - is there any way this could be done so we don't lose all of our notes, media etc if the final advice is to "start again".  How can it be right to lose all content because of an Apple system software issue?  I am pre-guessing this will be the final advice (if I don't want to pay for a replacement iPad)?
Please help me and all those others with the same avoidable software problem.
    Thank you,
    Peter

This is an iPad user to user forum, so you are not addressing Apple.
Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • Volume too low on left headphones

I have had my iPod for about 3 months, and yesterday, it suddenly lowered the volume only on the left headphone. I have restored and updated the iPod, but it hasn't fixed the problem. I also increased the sound volume, etc. but that only made the right headphone too loud, and the left headphone only a little louder. I am concerned that there is something wrong with the jack -- but it is only 3 months old. I hope this isn't a sign that this purchase was a mistake... Any ideas?

Check out this MacRumors thread: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=401766
It looks like you're not the only one with that problem. Does your iTouch have a case?

  • Only hearing vocals in left headphone, plug ins on right, why? logic 9

i just bought a new akg mic and N.I. Komplete audio interface.  when i try and record vocals i only hear it in the left headphone, and when i add a plug in on the track i only hear it in the right headphone.  how would i set my pref. to have vocals and plugins play in both?

Sounds like you're creating stereo tracks.
Try creating a new track, and selecting Mono as your Format.

  • Only sound from left with sum stack

Hello! When I create a sum stack this happens (only sound from left speaker:
But I want it to look like this:
All the tracks that I used to create Sum 1 worked perfectly (like Sum 2). What to do?

    Hi
There is no problem. As you said the notebook supports Line-in; headphone & S/PDIF jack and Microphone jack.
If you want to connect the HiFI or another device you have to choose the headphone & S/PDIF jack. Only this port provides the audio outputting.
The both another jacks provide only the function for signal (sound) receiving!
My notebook provides the same jacks and I have connected the notebook to HiFI (5 speakers) via Y-audio cable like this one:

  • Crackling & loss of sound

2 weeks ago (just as my ipod went out of warranty) it developed crackling distortion and loss of sound. Initially thinking this was a headphone problem I tried different headphones but to no avail. Although I have had the ipod mini for 12 months I have only been regularly using it in the last 3 months. I calculate that I have had about 100 listening hours (a poor return on investment!) As I see that other people have also experienced this problem it suggests a design fault! What do I do now?

I have the same problem! It is intermittent, but extremely annoying. I first noticed it while using a Belkin adapter in my car... was convinced it was the adapter, tried another and got the same results. It now does the cracking when using the clickwheel as well as when connecting anything to the bottom of the unit. I can only use the iPod now if I hold it very carefully.. even then it sometimes does this and drops the signal. My unit is older, almost a year... but I am very disappointed, after blathering on to everyone about how great my iPod mini was for so long. Of course I am long out of warranty. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • No Sound except through headphones

I have an Envy Phoenix 810 PC with an Envy 23 Monitor with built in speakers running windows 7. I can test sound on the computer with headphones and they work and I can test the internal speakers on the monitor and they work but I cannot get any sound externally without headphones. I called hp support and really got the run-around. This is the same problem with my home computer same configuration except it is running windows 8.1. Both computers are new but I am frustrated with this issue. HP support had me run system recovery on my computer at home with no success. Another support person reinstalled all the drivers but still there is no sound except with headphones. Do you have any suggestions? I have a jack plugged from monitor to computer.

    Hi,
Envy Phoenix 810 PC is a series of many models/products, what is yours ? How do you connect them ?
    Regards.

  • Left headphone trouble

i have an itouch 2g and sometimes when i watch a video on safari the status bar goes sideways and the screens vertical. then, after the video the audio of the video plays again even though im not watching it. then i noticed my left headphone stopped working. it wouldnt work on anything else. so i got another pair and it was working fine but the same thing happened again, any ideas of what is going on?

Make sure the headphones work fine, check them on other computers etc. I it still doesn't solve the problem check the sound balance in system prefrences, sound, output. I all else fails try runnning the hardware check disk and taking it to an Apple shop
