Loss of Sound, in monitor speakers, loss of HP software, W2007 monitor, SR5550F Compaq Presario

A short time ago, our hard drive crashed, just beyond warranty.  The new drive was set up using Windows 7 (prior was Vista).  With the loss of data we also lost the basic HP care programs that were pre-installed.  Within this program is where according to the HP site, that I notify the CPU that sound is in the monitor speakers.  The Windows sound/display areas do not allow me to select sound in the monitor.
We have zero sound and the monitor OSD menu does not have the option to set it up either.
If I could get the HP program that allows this ( was it PC tools? Total care? ), then I could fix this I hope.  But it seems that I cannot get it from the HP site.
Any suggestions?  anything at this point is appreciated...

Have you tried running Windows Update and installing all updates?
Also try reinstalling the original software and drivers using the HP Tools on your PC (if they are still functional):

monitor on my presario SR 2013wn  not getting a signal is this a mother board issue

It could be a motherboard issue.  Has anything been done to it lately?  IE: downloading any updates or making any changes?  Can you veirfy that the monitor is turning on?  Do you have a video card installed or using onboard graphics.
BTW: If you did a BIOS update, then that could be the reason for no video.

  • Turned off volume on CQ1859s Monitor with Compaq Presario

In trying to increase the poor volume of the inbuilt speakers on my CQ1859s monitor I pressed the button on the side and the volume disappeared completely.  Nothing else is muted and all the controls state that they are at 100% volume.  Please does anyone know how I can turn the sound back up?  Continuing to press the button on the monitor doesn't do anything and the pop up box doesn't accept the cursor.

Try hold down the power button for 30-60 seconds. Then power the monitor on and go into the monitor's menu and do a factory reset.

  • Playing QuickTime sound through AirPort Speakers?

Ive just set up my new speakers with AirPort Express, and it works great with AirTunes. However, is there a way to send all computer sound through the speakers, EG, sound from QuickTime and normal computer noises like new mail alerts?
Im sure i posted this before and there was a solution, but the thread is gone.
    *nathan

i'm using the ap express as a streaming audio device. to my dismay...while viewing a music video and Commander In Chief, the audio did NOT stream to my stereo.
according to the support apple gives, APE doesn't support streaming audio other than that which is going through AirTunes. in other words...no quicktime, etc.
i tried AirFoil, and found it profoundly disapppointing. the audio lag was far too great to ignore. in my estimation, it's unusable.
all of this being said, i'm at a loss. i want to watch the movies i've downloaded from the music store and those which i have taken with my own camera on my computer and have the audio stream to my stereo. it seems intuitive that if it's playing through iTunes, that the quicktime video would stream also...but that's not the case.
if anyone has any further input, i would greatly appreciate it....and i'll post more if i learn anymore.

  • No sound from internal speakers or headphones when using ART Tube interface

Hi - can anyone help with this...
I have no sound fromthe internal speakers or headphones when using my new ART Tube USB interface - I get a nice loud recording level from the ART but cant monitor - in Logic 7.2
Audio hardware interface in logic 7.2 is set to USB Codec - just like the ART manual states
And the SOUND control panel is set to speakers/headphones
    But no love...
    Any comments welcomed
    Si2

By default, OSX will only let you have one interface active at any one time - so if you specify the ART as your interface to get sound in, you don't have access to your regular interface to listen to it.
But there is a workaround - open the Audio/MIDI Setup utility, create a new "Aggregate Device", and add both your required audio interfaces to it.
Now, back in Logic, select the aggregate device you created as the audio device, and now all your inputs and outputs from both interfaces are available - the aggregate device acts as one big interface containing both your hardware interfaces.

  • Sound from internal speakers on iMac not working

I've been having a recurring problem where the internal speakers constantly lose connection. When I go to sound preferences, the internal speakers disappear from the device list in the output tab. I've also noticed that plugging in my own headphones does not solve the problem, sound is still lost and regained.  I have no idea what is causing this. I am currently working on the current software(Version10.9.4).

Here is one that worked for another user it may work for you

Re: internal speakers no soundin response to noondaywitch | This solved my question
Here's what worked for me. It's not a workaround, this acutally solved the problem and I haven't had speaker issues since.
Go to "Activity Monitor" (you can hold "Command" "Shift" and press "U" if you're on the desktop).
    Locate "coreaudiod" under "All Processes"
Right click it and click on "Quit"
After several seconds, "coreaudiod" will restart on it's own and your speakers will return to normal.
I tested this by restarting to see if it was a fluke workaround. Then I turned it off and waited a day (I had things to do so the waiting a day was easy lol). Turned it on, it was fine. I put it on sleep mode, waited 10 mins. and took i off of sleep mode. It was fine. Everything went back to normal for me.
Let me know if this worked for you.
    Good Luck and Cheers

  • No sound from monitor

I have a new mini, runing osx 10.9.2.  Also a new monitor: NECEA234WMi.
I am not getting sound from built-in monitor speakers.
With nothing plugged into audio out of mini,  I hear sound from mini.  Sound goes away when audio plug inserted into audio out of mini.
When I connect other end of audio cable to monitor, there is no sound.
In OSX preferences sound volume is at max.
When I plug headset into mini, I get sound.  This suggests problem is in monitor, but I don't understand System Preferences>Sound menu.  It says to select a device for sound output.  The only thing listed is "Headphones".  Clicking on Headphones doesn't do anything.
    Can anyone explain this?
    Thanks,
    Owen

My mistake.  I plugged into audio out rather than in on monitor.
However in sys pref I do not see monitor as output device.
With nothing plugged in audio in of mini Sys Pref>Sound shows Internal speakers.
When I plug audio cable from monitor into mini Sys Pref>Sound shows Headphones.
    This is probably OK.
    Thanks,
    Owen

  • Problems with sound from external speakers after iOS 5.0.1 update

Have others experienced problems with external speakers on the Iphone 4 after iOS 5.0.1 update?  My phone no longer rings, sounds when i receive a text message, sounds alarm, etc.  Vibrate works fine and when i plug in headphones I can hear music through the headphones.  Any fixes for this?

    Hi Guys,
I have post eariler on another forum and I have the same problem, I have tried all the things listed here and nothing was perminant in fixing this painful iphone hating problem.... and failed.  You probably have the problem when you use youtube or your music external speaker that there is no volume bar and no sound.   I have had the same problem But I need to happily say that I now have the fix!!!!  This worked for me and I fixed it by myself so you don't need to go to apple or service centre or anything.
Ok I like so many of you here truly believed this was as IO5 issue as it only dropped the sound on the speakers once that IO5 update came along.  I tried a bunch of reset, reboots, home clicks, lock and unlocks, to fix this and all failed.  some worked for an hour but then failed.  hours of my life that I will never get back.   but since I have learnt this is not a IO5 problem but a hardware issue! ...  and in paticualar is has to do with your bottom connection.  Your phone is thinking it is docked all the time.
To fix the no sound problem what you need is...
    1.  a torch
    2.  a tooth brush
    3.  methalated spirits
    4. a butter knife
    Step 1.
get your torch and shine it down the bottom connection plate to see what kind of dust, sand, hair or anything you have stuck in there.   all that need to be removed!  everything!  it might look clean but still thats ok go to step 2.
    step 2.
Turn on your music app and put the speakers on!  If your phone is like mine it should not work.  you most probably don't even have the volume display to turn it on but its ok, just do it! and it should still play with no sound.   its important you try and run the speakers as this will show you that it is a hardware problem.
    step 3.
Dip your tooth brush into some methated sprits.   then at your sink tap the exess metho out of your brush as you just want the brushes to be slightly damp, not soaking wet and then scrub the bottom connetiors on your iphone.  work the brush back and forward in a way that scoops the dirt out of the phone, not just pushing it side to side.
(As you bushing you should notice the volume bar come back on or off as you scub.   This happened to me and that is how I realised I was on the right track to fixing this problem as I was doing something external that was actually controling when the volume display came on or off.   but once I cleaned it this still didn't fix the problem...)
    Step 4.
Use the back side of a butter knife (not the sharp side) to gently slide over the connectors on the iphone.  Do this gently as you are only pushing down on the tiny metal contect bars and you should notice the volume display come on again.  slide it back and forward.  Now the area of interest is about 2/3 along the connection plate to the right.   This is the area that has the infomation sent when your iphone thinks its docked.
This has worked for me and I have not had a problem since I did this 2 weeks ago.   I have since learnt that the new IOS 5 has activated a different part of the bottom conectors.  if you have been using dodgy connectors or unapproved apple cables (as I was)  any damage or hair and dirt on the terminal this is effecting it.  Try it.   just remember if you can do something external to your phone then there lies the problem.
Hope this works for your phone as it did for mine.
    Cheers

  • M-Audio Black Box Interface.  Acoustic guitar. No sound on monitor or on playback.  Tried every setting known to man, except the one that must work.  I appear to be recording - green lines in upper left.  Can hear it on headphones plugged into M-Audio.  ?

M-Audio Black Box with Acoustic/electric guitar plugged in.  No sound on monitor or playback in GB.  Have tried every setting I can imagine.  Seems to recording because I have green bars in the upper left and can hear it on headphone into the M-Audio.  Record volume in GB not active - but I'm guessing the M-Audio cancels that.  Any ideas?  Help wanted.  Thanks.

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

  • When i play a video or movie i get a buzzing sound from the speakers. how do i solve this problem?

I get this  buzzing sound from my speakers when I play a video, or movie either from the internet or playing a DVD. What can I do to solve this problem

A: There is no such thing as an unlocked iPhone 3Gs in the United States. ALL iPhone 3Gs's sold in the US are locked to AT&T. AT&T will NOT unlock iPhones, therefore it is not legitimately unlocked.
B: Sprint is a CDMA network as others have mentioned. They do NOT use SIM cards. The iPhone 3Gs will NEVER work on Sprint. Ever. It's not physically possible.
Either your Uncle misunderstood or he was mislead. Send it back and tell him to get his money back. Buy an iPhone in India from a supported carrier.

My mac desktop will not provide sound from internal speakers.  When I go to audio devices window it only shows airplay.  How can I get internal speakers back.

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Run Software Update and make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • Very poor sound from internal speakers, very good on headphones.

    Hi,
I hope you can give some advice.
New to all this so apologies if protocols are broken etc
    New 20" imac, running Leopard.
very thin, tinny sound from internal speakers (similar to hearing someone's else's walkman
on the train). when I plug headphones in its great no probs.
Advice please! I don't want to send it back I'm halfway through my assignment.
    Hadders

I just realized I've never heard the internal speakers on my new iMac, I have always used good 2.1 speakers since I got my eMac years ago and the internals really sucked.
I was just curious, have you heard anybody elses built in iMac speakers and did they sound better than yours or the same? Maybe at the Apple Store?
I don't know, I just didn't know if they really improved them. Maybe other iMac users can chime in on internal speaker quality. The only reason I said all this was because you mentioned that headphones sound great, which is the same port that a set of external speakers would go.
Sorry to hear you had to send it back for that. Here's hoping you didn't have to send it in for what the speakers really do sound like.

  • No sound from computer speakers

In sound preferences the output no longer shows computer and I have no sound. It only has "digital output" available.

Go step by step and test.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and  remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

  • I get sound from external speakers, but not songs

    Hi,
I have a pair of external speakers plugged into the output jack of my PC. I get sound, even from iTunes Help which Dings when I enter search criteria. But when I play songs in iTunes, they're silent. Since I get other sound from them, I know the volume is okay and they're plugged in, etc. I've played with all 3 volume controls -- the ones on the speakers, the one at the lower left next to the clock and the one in iTunes itself. Still no music.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Richard

This worked for me as well. Great find! I have gigabyte ep45-ud3r motherboard and I was getting all sound through external speakers except itunes was playing the sound out of the digital output instead of the speakers. I could see this when I went to control panel > hardware & sound > manage audio devices. I did the repair as described above and now I have sound in iTunes.
