Okay, I finally managed to fix it and it didn't require reinstalling or any of that. I just right-clicked on the little quicktime logo in the taskbar, selected "quicktime preferences", clicked on the audio tab and just adjusted the settings to what was most suitable for my system by changing the rate (wasn't sure about that one but whatever I set it to it seems to work), size (24 bit) and speakers (5.1).
Worked for me.....

Recurring theme with the 4s losing alerts except for the phone ringing.  Most complaints seem to center on the 7.1 upgrade.  The fix is dodgy, putting in a charger, playing a you tube video then pulling out the charger and wiggling it until you get the sound back.  When you get the sound back, the volume buttons start to work again.  Alternate solutions involve cleaning the docking port with a toothbrush, running a pick over the electrodes etc.

  • My iphone 4 microphone won't record sound on video clips and doesn't work with Skype

This is the first time I have used the forum. My iphone4 microphone won't record sound on video clips, and won't work with Skype.

I have checked that I have the latest software. I have restarted phone. I am not sure how to perform the other things you mentioned , restore and reset as new... Would I lose any data by doing these? Thanks for the reply.

  • Need advice on video download and edit

I need to download and edit video, have not done it before. My Mac is a PowerBook G4 from 2005. The videocamera I have is a Sony GL2 digital which uses a mini DV cassette. I have a cable, a 4-pin DV to 6-pin firewire. What software do I need? (Currently I have only graphics apps, Adobe CS2, Dreamweaver, Flash, Quark.) The type of editing I need to do initially is cut out crap scenes, piece together good scenes, and export mpeg clips. I do not have a DVD writer on this Mac. I love Adobe products but I can't spring for Premiere right now.

iMovie came with the computer. Capture and cut away.
You'll need an external DVD burner if you want to output stuff. iDVD will allow you to burn the video to disk.

  • Loss of sound comes on loud and distorted any clue

Updated operating system now I lose sound and more often then not sound comes very distorted and loud  des tarting the unit works sometimes but the problem always returns anyone have any ideas?

Do you lose the sound or is it very distorted and loud?
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Distorted sound on video download

I downloaded the video of You Only Get What You Give by New Radicals and the soundtrack is so distorted it's like it has been run through a vocoder. Anyone else having these issues or able to suggest a fix? Trying to find out who to contact in Apple is impossible.

  • No sound in video playback, and random mute button appears...

    Hello all,
I recently bought a TV series (Bones, since you ask from the Itunes store, and I'm having a lot of problems with the sound.  Apparently at random an episode won't play any audio, and next to it in the listing a loudspeaker icon appears.  I have checked all the settings and can't find anything stopping the sound playing, and sometimes if I fiddle around for long enough it comes back.  And I have no idea where this loudspeaker icon is coming from.
What on earth is going on, and why am I losing the audio?  It is VERY annoying and taking me hours of messing around to fix
    Thanks in advance - Lindsay.

I have followed ukcowboys message word for word as copied below, and it has worked! All sound back!

After installing the latest version 7.6 this happened to me. Uninstall Quicktime from your computer. And then install Quicktime 7.3 http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime731forwindows.html
This solved it for me. No need to uninstall itunes just Quicktime

  • VIdeo downloaded and payed for from Itunes wont work!!!

What do you do when you pay for a video and it skips not even 2 min into the 48 min clip??

You click the link on your iTunes store receipt and report a problem. They will either refund the amount or flag your account to allow you to download it again.

  • When new firefox kicked in I lost some of my apps on my tool bar how do i get them back? I lost ani weather, ant video downloader, and flash video downloader.

when the new fire fox change kicked in I lost some of my add on apps such as ani weather, ant video down loader, and flash & video down loader, how do I get them back? I tried reinstalling them but they don't show up in the tool bar.

    Hi,
I'm assuming all of your extensions were on the Add-on Bar. The Add-on Bar has been removed in Firefox 29[1] but you can get it back easily using an extension[2]
    See
    *[1] https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/what-happened-to-the-add-on-bar

  • Loss of sound via external devices and odd issues when switching inputs.

When I plug in my headphones via the headphone jack, or my Logitech USB headset thru the USB port (either one), I get no sound coming out.  Going to sysprefs>sound>output and selecting the approporiate device results in no volume control on keyboard and spinning beachball for several seconds.  Unplugging device results in sound repeatedly going "pop, pop, pop" at whatever volume the internal speakers were last set at.
Something is skewed in the audio components but I am not sure what it is and am not sure how to proceed.

Remove that in safe mode using >>Driver Fusion<< and install latest MSI driver: http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N660Ti-PE-2GD5.html#/?div=Driver&os=All

  • Canon camera video download problems

I have a canon S2 IS and have no problems with photo downloading to Iphoto5. The videos I shoot with the camera are a different story. some videos download and others never make it into Iphoto. I think it depends on the format I shot them in. The import label keeps going and going without anything happening. Any thoughts?
    Jeff

Yesterday I used my Canon camera as a video camera. (Not by choice, but it was better than nothing.) I spent quite a while uploading video clips from my SD cards today. Yes, a 2-minute clip can take more than 3 minutes to upload. Here are some tips:
Use a card reader. You do not want to rely on the camera's batteries during this process. I used my all-in-one printer as a card reader.
Use Image Capture. Click "Upload Some." View the card's contents in list view, because it will show you the size in MB of each video clip. This gives you a relative idea of how long the upload may take.
Upload only one video at a time.
Ignore Image Capture's blue progress bar. It seems to go from zero to completely blue, with no in between. It does not indicate any movement or change.
Use the Activity Monitor to see the Available RAM pie piece slowly shrink during the uploading. This shows you that something really is happening. You can also watch for the light on the card reader - if it blinks then the card is being read. My Mac Mini made no sound during the uploading.
Be patient. Eventually the Image Capture "Downloading" info will close and a Finder window will open with the new file showing. Ten minutes is not unreasonable. I even had an 8-minute video that was over 900MB, that uploaded successfully. I just had to wait long enough.
Play each clip in QuickTime to check that it is all there. If the upload is incomplete the clip will go white. My 8-min clip seemed incomplete at first. It played about 3 minutes, then went white. I closed it. In the Finder I saw the thumbnail file appear. When I opened the clip again, it was there in its entirety.
Ignore any .THM files that get uploaded. They are just the thumbnails created by the Canon. You can trash them.
Once all the clips were uploaded to a folder, I imported them into iPhoto 6. It only took a few minutes to import the whole folder of 15 clips. I like having them in iPhoto because their duration is displayed over their thumbnails.
I don't know if iPhoto 5 handles these longer clips as well. If it doesn't like them, you can always save them in your Movies folder. This will make them accessible from iMovie and iDVD.
I used to be able to import video directly from my card reader into iPhoto 6, even with clips up to 3 minutes long, shot with the same camera I used yesterday. I went back to 1Gig cards (no more 2Gig cards), and the problem did not resolve. I suspect the QuickTime update(s) after 7.1.3 have somehow caused the trouble with video clips. It seems slower and fussier this year compared with last year.
    Hope this helps.

  • Exporting video downloaded from itunes

I've downloaded a couple shows from the itunes store and wanted to export them using QT Pro to another format. But when i open the movie the export command is greyed out and cannot be selected. I've tried this with a few different itunes video downloads and get the same greyed out export command. any ideas?
    thx

Thanks Kirk. Was just curious to see if i could shrink the video files down so they wouldn't take up so much space on my ipod.

I was having problems with the Real Player Video downloader, and saw the fix posted here in the forums, but all the threads are now closed. So, I was wondering...is there a consequence to making the alteration in the fix? What happens now? Does the browser have a different set of problems? Here is the fix we were advised to apply:
If the value is changed, what effect does that have?
"type about:config in the address bar
Then in the filter box type dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npswf32.dll.
Then change the value to false."

  • Loss of sounds

Apparently like many Mt. Lion users I am experiencing loss of sounds, like mail arrival and send swoosh and trash emptying, when my computer awakes from sleep. Apple suggested the following fix - library/caches folder - delete folder, then hd/system/library/caches - delete folder contents only, which worked when i did it but problem returned after next reboot/sleep.
Anyone found a solution for this issue?
    Thank u

    Open /Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup
    Select the Output device
In the bottom right set the Format at 44.1Hz 16bit and adjust the volume sliders then close.
In iTunes you can raise the Gain using the Equalizer (sadly the button has now gone from the bottom bar and is a /View item with no Keystroke)
