Loss of sound quality from viewer to sequence

Hi, I'm currently putting a track into a piece and when I play it in the viewer as a preview the sound is perfect yet when I insert it into the sequence there's a muffled ticking sound in the background.
The audio track has been rendered...any idea what I could do to resolve this?

in the preview then it plays fine, but as soon as I drop it into the sequence there's this ticking sound. I can't work out why it is.
Why? Because the Viewer show things (images AND sound) in their native format. But once you place it the Sequence, it has to conform to the Sequence settings. Since FCE's setting doesn't work with MP3, you hear the ticking (or other noise).
The fix? Always convert any media to match the Sequence settings PRIOR to importing it into your FCE project.

Airplay sound quality from iPad

I am trying to use Airplay to stream music to a rather high end HiFi system from my iPad.
Using an new airport express optical out to a high-en DAC.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. I experience the same. I expect that it has something to do with the way Airplay works. There is iTunes Airplay and there is System Airplay. You get more or less the same result when you only use Airplay in iTunes on your iMac and keep the system setting on internal speakers (by alt-clicking the speaker icon in the menu-bar).

Lousy sound quality from my Dynex 24" HDTV

I am thinking about taking this TV back because the sound quality of the\is TV is so scratchy!! I've tried hooking up my computer speakers to the TV but the receptacle is the wrong size. Are there converter plugs to accommodate these wires so I can use an inexpensive set of computer speakers to enhance the sound?

Unfortunately fb41445 you will have this issue with nearly any HDTV, but with some added surround sound this will be a problem of the past.

Sound Quality from usb connector bad

serial connection/usb connection does not give good sound quality although connections through headphone jack is perfect. How can this be fixed?

Am i understanding your problem correctly, it sounds (haha! No pun intended!) like the earphones are not able to handle the highs & lows of these songs and basically you're overloading them causing the crackling noise.
Are you using the earphones/buds that came with your iPod? If so, that could be why the song sounds good on your external speakers, but not through your earbuds.

JPEGS loosing quality from viewer to canvas

I have been editing dance recitals for years. I always import jpegs of the dancers to use during the credits. For some reason the JPEGS look terrible in the canvas window. They are crisp and clear in the viewer window but they get all blurry in the canvas window when placed in the movie timeline.
I have done the same exact thing for years and have never had this problem. I am using the same computer, same version of Final Cut Express. I have rendered them, tried .tiff files, nothing seems to make them look better. I have even burned the movie hoping I was missing something, but they are blurry in the burned movie as well.
Any assistance would be great!

When you load an image or clip from the Browser to the Viewer window, it displays at the native resolution of the image or clip. However, once you place an image or clip in the Timeline, it will only display at the resolution of the Sequence settings.
Make sure that the images are fully rendered; check to see if FULL is activated as a render type under the Sequence->Render menus.

Kernel panic & loss of sound resulting from interrupted software update

Help, please...I'm at a loss!
In a nutshell:
I had a software update (I think it was Safari) installing on my iMac when a power outage occurred. When I tried to start my computer, I got a gray screen with text (which I lacked the forethought to copy down, but it did have the words "kernel", "panic" and "mis-matched version" in it, I think), and a dark box in the center of the screen telling me "You may need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button."
I tried powering down a few times, but kept getting the same screen.
I then tried starting up in safe mode, which at least got me to my desktop. Upon restarting normally, I can use/access the internet and almost all of my programs (EXCEPT Adobe CS3 - which now gives me a "the application quit unexpectedly" message every time I try to use any of the programs). I noticed also that my sound is GONE. When I try to adjust the volume, I get the gray "broken file" sign.
I attempted to reset the PRAM, but nothing seems to have changed. I still have no sound.
I can hear the start up sound (really loudly), so I know that, at least, is working, but nothing else.
I'm not sure what I need to do next - do I need to have a Firmware Restoration CD? If so, which version? The 1.7 version does not list my computer's model identifier, and I definitely don't want to try to restore with the wrong version.
Is there anything else I can do to resolve this issue? I don't live anywhere near an Apple store or any place that services Macs (I'm in rural Windows-only country), and I do not have AppleCare, so I'd really like to try to resolve this on my own if at all possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

What ever was being installed during the power outage has messed up a lot with your installation of Mac OS X when the installation abruptly stopped. I think that you should do an Archive and Install, which will Archive your old System and Install a new system with Mac OS X, leaving your personal files and user accounts as they are.
You do this from you Install DVD that came with your Mac. These instructions are from Mac Help in the Help Menu of the Finder.
+1. Insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and double-click the Install Mac OS X icon.+
+2. Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select the destination disk, select your current Mac OS X disk (in most cases, it will be the only one available).+
+3. Click Options.+
+*a. If you want to save your existing files, users, and network settings, select “Archive and Install,” and then select “Preserve Users and Network Settings.”*+
+b. If you want to erase everything on your computer and reinstall Mac OS X, select “Erase and Install.” You can’t recover erased data.+
+4. Click Continue.+
+5. Click Customize to select which parts of Mac OS X you’d like to install, or click Install to perform a basic installation (recommended).+
+NOTE: If you selected “Erase and Install” in step 3, you may need to use the Applications Install DVD that came with your computer to reinstall your iLife applications (GarageBand, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and iWeb). If you are prompted to use the Applications Install DVD, insert the Applications Install DVD, double-click the Install Bundled Software icon, and then follow the onscreen instructions.+
You will need to update to the most recent versions of all your Apple apps and Mac OS X, as this A & I will dial the clock back to the versions of all the Apple software on your install DVD. You may need to reinstall 3rd party apps, such as from Adobe. You can drag & drop the archive system to the trash and discard it. It is no longer usable by your Mac. However, there are sometimes things in the archived system that folks fish out, but that really involves knowing for what you are fishing!
The only way to avoid all of this work is if you happen to have a clone of your Mac saved to a backup dating from just before you started installing the update that was in progress when you were effected by the power outage.

Losing quality from clip to sequence

I've been working on a walkthrough video where my original footage was taken through the screencast program Jing Pro. My clips were saved as mp4's and sized to fit the IE window I was working in. I've tried multiple settings for the sequences both preset and manual, but can't seem get the same crisp look my original files have.
At first I just assumed it was the lower render quality of the playback when editing, however even when exporting the final video the screencasts appear blurry and text from within it is almost illegable. Other content generated through Premeire, such as my titles, appear crisp and clean like they should.
What am I missing/doing wrong? Is there a way (like in FCP) to just create a sequence that matches the settings of your footage automatically?

My CS5 works perfectly with the MP4 files from my wife's Flip HD camera... so I don't think such a blanket statement is correct
There IS, however, a history of problems with screen capture programs... which seems to be related to exactly how those programs manipulate the codec they use

Sound quality from iTunes Store downloads

Hi Mac Mavens,
I'm a pretty discerning listener and I'm wondering about the quality of the sound from iTunes Store downloads vis-a-vis a CD. If you play them side by side through a very good sound system would you be able to hear the difference? Any audiophiles out there who have made the comparison? What's your verdict?

I, for one, can hear the difference between 256 Kbit AAC and uncompressed AIFF over my Imac's tiny speakers. Over a good sound system, the difference is not subtle.
Compressed audio is inferior to the original, and there's very little argument about that. It's my understanding that most people can hear the difference between lossy compression and uncompressed audio.
Upon hearing it, however, some people can live with the difference, while others can't.
There are two very good reasons why you might wish obtain your audio on physical CD's: 1) if you care about the artistic intent of the musician and you want to hear everything they created, that's only available on CD, and 2) you might not wish to be overcharged for an inferior product. The "iTunes Plus" compression throws away about 80% of the information in the original audio, yet the cost is about the same as a physical CD. Why anyone pays $10 for one fifth of the data on a CD, when all the data is available for about the same price, is beyond me.

MuVo TX Sudden loss in sound quality -irrecoverab

My MuVo Tx simply stopped working as usual. I was listening to it, put it away on the shelf i keep it decided to go out for a walk later on picked it up turned it on and nowit sounds as though it's only playing higher pitched notes and background vocals - almost like a recording error - for example like i was recording one channel on a 2 channel program, so only hearing half the original.
Yet using the same program Creative Media Source and even Windows Media Player 0 and on different computers incase it was my USB ports acting up.
Change of batteries doesn't resolve anything, a format via Windows in the FAT format resolves nothing. I even flashed the players bios to see if i could just everything.
No dice.
Has anyone else had this problem at all? I guess my last resort is to RMA it (if i can find my purchase receipt - why o why do i not keep better track of them).
I'm at a total loss to explain it. Oh btw the headphones work fine on my cd walkman, tape walkman and other headphones give me the same result. No physical damge noticeable, i can't recall even ever knocking it about other than to slide it in and out of a USB slot.

Sound quality from nano(2nd generation)

Please can someone help, in the last few days when i go to listen to my ipod either via earphones or dock the sound for all the world is like its underwater bubbly sound, i have tried everything and just wondered is there a way to fix this or do i need to buy a new one..

Well, I have another related problem and a question:
1. Why does sound differ if I plug my headphones into the back panel jack from that I get from my front panel jack?
2. Is this by design?
3. Can I change it (make sound from front like that from the rear)? How?
4. Is this influenced by Windows Sound settings (speakers > advanced > headphones or speakers)? Could you please give more info on these settings (I could not find that anywhere!)
The major problem is that my phones sound too twittery, almost no bass, whereas the speakers plugged into the rear jack are OK. Please help!

ITunes 7.0.2 sound quality worse than 7.0.1

Hello, I just downloaded iTunes 7.0.2 and noticed a distinct loss in sound quality with this version of the software. All of my sound files are already in the Apple Losless format. What happened with this version of the software, and what can I do?

Sound quality of mp3's via apple tv?

Just wondering what it is like. At the moment i stream itunes to my PS3 which sounds great upscaled through my Onkyo 875 amp. Will i get the same kind of sound quality from Apple tv?

AppleTV audio via optical sounds superb through my ageing Yamaha Processor into the main hi-fi.
For audio MP3 etc gets converted to a PCM bitstream by AppleTV for digital out to be handled by the amp.
If connecting via HDMI theer should be little difference.
AppleTV will not upsample audio, from memory my PS3 can do this, but frankly you're not gaining new information just interpolating. Does the Onkyo upsample?

Loss of sound on imac

I have a sudden loss of sound coming from my external speakers. I can only get it back if I re boot. This usually happens every day with no rhyme or reason.
The internal speakers are ok. I use the Bose companion 5 series speakers. It cannot be the Bose because if I re boot everything is ok for a while. any Ideas?

I have been there and done that.....makes no difference. Why do you think that the all of a sudden it would change the output in the first place? Things don't change by themselves for no apparent reason. It was still on the bose speakers when I went into sys pref. Amazing that you think that it would change itself everyday....did you really read my post or were you distracted?

Xi-fi problem with Vista, loss of sound and a whis

Hello,I have a Xi-fi extreme Gamer, and Windows vista 32 bitWith many games, just to say one Overlord, but also with Gta S.Andreas, Teamfortress 2, Never Witner Night 2.. you name it, suddenly i lose all audio that is repleaced by a loud whistle, the whistle don't stop even if i quit the game and return to the OS. The only way to stop the whistle is to restart the PC. I tried to disable many options in the audio console but the problem return, with the last drivers i can't play Overlord for more than 4 minutes, then all i get from the audio is the whistle. Anyone have a suggestion to solve this problem?Thank you very much.

there seems to be lot of us having issues with sound falling off and odd noises.
We all seem to get the same reply from creative as well.. silence.
The only fix that works for some and not all is to go to the sound properties ( right click the volume, select playback devices, right click the speaker icon, select properties, select advanced )
And Turn down the sound quality from DVD quality to CD.
This has cured most of my games.
