Loss of the transparent color in images inserted into Draw

I need to float an oval portrait image over a background image, so to get to the oval I made the portrait image corner sections transparent using Graphic Converter and saving as a PNG, which supports the transparent color. Problem is that after the PNG image is inserted into the Draw document containing the background image, the transparent sections are black and not transparent. Anyone else know about this problem?

Welcome to Apple Discussions Jim
I've not had much success, & none recently, getting images to be transparent in AppleWorks. However, a few years ago I accidentally discovered that if the image is flipped or rotated the background will become transparent. Since you are using Graphic Converter, you can do what I did. Before saving the image in Graphic Converter flip it horizontally so that once imported into your AppleWorks document you can "re-flip" it & the background will be transparent. Another option is to rotate the object 1 degree in AppleWorks.
I now use Pages for my desktop publishing & it has no problem with transparent PNG or GIF images.

  • Manipulation of the size of an image inserted into an Image Field

    Hi,
    I'm learning LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 as I go. My apologies for the lengthy post but I'm trying to give you as much background as possible.
    I'm are trying to design a form that will allow us to automate data entry (by importing fields into our Access dbase instead doing the data entry by hand).  However, at the end of the day, I also need an electronic pdf file of the same form and a printed paper copy.  Things have been going well until working with the Image Field.
    The form is fairly complicated - 4 pages long.  We're collecting extensive data on specific locales (location, what was seen there, who did the work, etc). On one page, three different images (maps) are needed, each one showing different details on the site's location.  [Please note these images will not be imported into the database but must appear in the electronic pdf and on the paper copy.] The people who fill out the forms are expected to do so using Adobe Reader (the form will have extended rights so that they can save the data they enter on the form).  They would then email us the form as an xml file.  Once we receive the form, we have to add some additional information and then the finalized paper copy and electronic pdf would be made.  We have already done this successfully with much simpler forms, none of which have needed Image fields.
    Here's my problem - one of the three maps required is a standard 1:50000 scale topographic map which shows things like contour lines and latitude/longitude lines.   For accuracy and comparison reasons, having the standard 1:50000 scale is very important to us, so we can make absolutely certain the submitter has the right location.  If the dot plotted on the map is out just a few millimeters, we're looking at an error that represents 100s of meters on the ground.
    The current form exists in Word - we have never had any rules about the image formats used (jpg, gif, etc) or the resolution, as long as the image was clear.  The only rule was that the scale of the topographical map image HAD to be at 1:50000 scale.  This gets very tricky because Word will automatically mess with the physical appearance of the image, based on its resolution.  In most cases, the submitter simply readjusted the image within Word, stretching/resizing it manually until the scale was correct.  Another option was to use an image in the emf file format so that Word didn't readjust the image's appearance based on its resolution. Whatever method they used was fine by us, as long as the scale was correct.
    So far, after playing with all the "sizing" options of the Image field, along with embedding or not embedding the file, I do not see any way to control the physical size of the image. On our form, the three image fields are different sizes, with 2 of them being small (~2x3 inches) and the 3rd being large (~7x7 inches). Regardless of the settings I chose for each image field, the program simply resizes the topographic map whatever Image field it was inserted into,  making the same image appear physically smaller or larger at will.  I cannot correct the scale by resizing it, like I can in Word.   Instead, when I try to select the image, all I am asked is if I wish to insert another image.  Inserting an .emf file format into the field doesn't work - it only shows a blank screen instead of the image.
    Is there a way for the user to adjust the image's physical size in the form, after inserting it (like they can do in Word)?  Demanding that everyone use a standardized resolution or image format also seems highly unlikely to work - there are too many submitters and too many programs that can be used to make the image (some are making them using GIS programs, others are scanning the bought topographic print).  I'd appreciate any help you can give me on this.  I have had very little luck tracking down discussions on Image fields and how they work best within LiveCycle.  Any comments would be helpful!

    Hi,
    I have an example here that is intended to demonstrate the difference between Positioned and Flowed subforms: http://assure.ly/i8pSdy.
    This shows how you can use a slider to change the dimensions of the image object.
    I have extended this to an example with buttons to scale the image: http://assure.ly/i8ZI5Y
    This may not be fine enough for your purposes, but it may give you some ideas.
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • Filling the transparent color with a new color in an image

    Hi,
    I need to fill the transparent color of an imageicon with a new color.
    I tried building a filter, but i have no results.
    Here's my code:
    private static class TransparentColorFilter extends RGBImageFilter {
    private int transparentColor;
    private int newColor;
    public TransparentColorFilter(int transparentCol, int newCol) {
    canFilterIndexColorModel = true;
    transparentColor = transparentCol;
    newColor = newCol;
    public int filterRGB(int x, int y, int rgb) {
    if (rgb == transparentColor) {
    return newColor;
    return rgb;
    public static ImageIcon makeColoredIcon(ImageIcon icon, int color) {
    PixelGrabber pg = new PixelGrabber(icon.getImage(), 0, 0, 1, 1, false);
    try {
    pg.grabPixels();
    } catch (InterruptedException e) {
    return icon;
    IndexColorModel cm = (IndexColorModel)pg.getColorModel();
    int trans = cm.getTransparentPixel();
    if (trans == -1) return icon;
    return new ImageIcon(Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(new FilteredImageSource(icon.getImage().getSource(),new TransparentColorFilter(cm.getRGB(trans), color))));
    and the call is
    ColoredImageIcon c = new ColoredImageIcon();
    Color cc = Color.RED;
    ImageIcon newIcon = c.makeColoredIcon(myIcon, cc.getRGB());
    where myIcon is an IconImage.
    Where is wrong? I need to create a new ColorModel with no transparent pixel?

  • My Mac G-4 OS X will not image an icon of the zip disk with I inserted into my computer's built-in Zip Drive, therefore I can not remove the zip disk from my computer.  What can I do?

    My Mac G-4 OS X will not image an icon of the zip disk with I inserted into my computer's built-in Zip Drive, therefore I can not remove the zip disk from my computer.  What can I do?

    Thanks Old Comm Guy, BD Aquam and Texas Mac Man for youradvice and reply to my question
    and problem with my Zip Drive.  However:
        1.  Depressing mouse buttonon start up did not eject the zip disk.
        2.  To examine front of zipdrive, I had to remove many screws and several plastic case
             coverings.  Upon doing thatI discovered that, unfortunately, there is no whole in front
              of mybuilt-in zip hardware drive for me to insert a paper clip to manually eject zipdisk.
          3.  I went to the Utilities folder in myMac OS X Application folder, but I could not find
               theiomega zip drive in there.
    Also, I did go into my "9" System folder and thento the Extensions folder within it and did find an icon of an
    Iomega Driver. When double clicking on it a window came upstating I was opening the application
    "ColorSync Extension" for thefirst time, and asking if I was sure I wanted to open this application.
    Uponclicking open nothing happened - nothing opened.
    I also went into the "System X" folder>Libraryfolder>Extension folder>IomegaSAM.ket icon and double
    clicked on it and asmall window opened stating "Compiling file List", however nothingopened it just
    continued to compile, so I closed it.
    Within my Mac OS X HD>  Applications>Iomega folder>Iomega Tools.app a smallwindow opened up
    with several options (Erase, Protect, Disk Info and DriveInfo). Clicking on the Drive Info a message says:
    "No Iomega Drives or noIomega Driver found.  Therefore, Ihave gone to Mac, Iomega and other websites
    trying to find a Driver for thebuilt-in Zip Drive in my Mac G-4 OS X 10.4.11, but have not really found anythat work.
    CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THERE IS A WEBSITE WHERE I CANDOWNLOAD A NEW DRIVER FOR MY ZIP DRIVE?

  • Can a Color Box display the transparent color [16777216]?

    I was trying to force a Color Box to display the transparent color [16777216 = "2 to the 24th"], but I didn't have much luck.
    Instead of displaying transparent, the Color Box wanted to paint a replica of the coloring tool's "transparent" icon, which is a small "T" on a white background.
    Is it possible to make a Color Box display the transparent color?

    > Well just for the record it appears it is possible to make a color box transparent.
    Okay, that's pretty cool. How'd you do it? Also, your transparent "color" reports as being 0 [zero], which should be black. [Frankly, this strikes me as something of a bug...] And your Color Box does report as Visible.
    Or maybe it's only reporting the first 24 bits of your color as black, and omitting some values in the other eight bits [such as, maybe {1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1}???].
    I added a couple of other values [2^32 - 1, and (2^32 - 1) - (2^24 - 1), which should have 0 in the low 24 bits, and all 1's in the high eight bits], but I couldn't get it to take a value of 2^32. [I don't know how to do long ints in LabVIEW - I seem to recall that you can't.]
    Anyway, when I get some time [maybe tonight], I'll write a script to display all 256 possible values of the top eight bits.
    But in the meantime, do tell how you got the Color Box to display transparent.
    Thanks! Gotta run.

  • Get the data  from excel and insert into the database

    I want to read the data from excel file, get the data from excel and insert into the database.

    You can use the Apache POI HSSF API to read data from Excel files and you can use the Sun JDBC API to insert data in database.
    This has nothing to do with JSP/JSTL.

  • Why can't I change the transparent color and font color in IOS 7?

    Who thought all this WHITE AND TRANSPARENT color looks appealing?
    Why can't I change the color of the folders and text?
    I already tried inverting the colors and then it washes out the photos I use as my wallpaper.
    I love everything, so far, except this transparent issue.

    That's very sad those colors can't be changed. They really look ugly.
    Thanks for responding.

  • Move JPEG images inserted into d/l folder to another

    Thank goodness for time machine, I tried to make an Apple script and it went all wrong. Am restoring files (as they should be) right now...
    I would like a script attached to my downloads folder so that whenever I download a JPEG image it gets moves to another folder. I only want the script to move new additions, not existing files (like it just did) and only when new ones are introduced from a web browser lets say.
    Anybody know a script that does this? I would like to stress that the script leave other images in other nested folders alone, just the new ones introduced into the downloads folder thanks.

    For Automator, it would be as I posted earlier:
    1) *Filter Finder Items* (find files where the file extension is jpg)
    2) *Move Finder Items* (to your other folder)
    Save the workflow as a Folder Action plug-in, and attach to your download folder.
    An AppleScript can also be written that does the same thing - it would also be set up as a folder action and attached to your download folder:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    font-weight: normal;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFEE80;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    property destination : missing value -- this will be the destination folder path
    on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving these_items
    handle items added to a folder
    parameters - this_folder [alias]: the folder added to
    these_items [list]: a list if items (aliases) added
    returns nothing
    if destination is missing value then
    set destination to (choose folder with prompt "Select a destination folder:")
    end if
    tell application "Finder" to repeat with an_item in these_items
    if name extension of an_item is in {"jpg", "JPG"} then
    move an_item to destination
    end if
    end repeat
    end adding folder items to

  • How do I change the appearance of password page on Yosemite? Not my desktop or screen saver but when I wake my computer up and put in my password. The Yosemite colors and images are awful! Thank you.

    Appearance of Yosemite password page - how to change it from the automatic one?

    It's not my desktop or screensaver but when I wake up my computer and am asked for my password.
    Thanks.

    This is Fiona who asked the question. It's now been pointed out to me that the image is actually my desktop photo blurred. From close up I just saw contorted colors and blurred lines and hadn't linked it to my desktop photo!

    If you want to stick with adjusting the scale you can do this two ways. Edit the value graph or edit the speed graph.
    The problem is that a camera move, a zoom or a dolly in, is not linear and scale is. This means the graphs are not a good representation of what you'll see visually. This makes them hard to use. At a constant rate for scale the appearance is that the increase in size slows down to closer you get to the final value. In other words, as you scale an object up at a constant rate, the visual appearance is a gradual slowing.
    A speed graph edited to look like this gives the appearance of a constant rate scale of the layer when you expect an acceleration at the end. There's just not enough granularity in the graph editor or enough control to predictably achieve the results you want.
    You'll have better luck editing the value graph to look something like this:
    While this looks extreme, you will get closer to achieving the results you want using the value graph. Once again, the amount of control and the resolution of the graph combined with the visual tomfoolery that scaling an object brings with it makes this a difficult way to achieve predictable results.
