Loss of VM Fusion Printer Support

I've had Fusion running successfully on an 08 MacPro until today when I loaded deLorme Street Atlas 2008. Before the program loaded, it sent a message that the following two programs had to be loaded: DotNet 1.1 and DotNet 1.1.sp1. I allowed those programs to load, then loaded Street Atlas. The program loaded and ran successfully until I tried to print a map at which point it froze. I exited the program and tried to look at "Printers & Faxes" in the Windows control panel; that utility also froze. Finally, I tried to print a text document from Windows Notepad and of course, it froze too. Exiting and restarting Windows didn't help, so I restored an earlier version of the whole virtual machine from Time Machine. (That was my first restore from Time Machine and it worked just fine.)
I researched this issue on deLorme's and VM's forums with no luck. Does anyone have any ideas about what might have caused this problem? Thanks in advance!
Brian

Sounds like the printer's gone south. Contact HP for steps on resetting it. Alternatively, get another printer.

Do you have an application that's designed for printing on CD/DVD discs?  If your Canon has that capability it probably has an app that will do it.
I use Discus which works extremely well IMO.  It allows me to create some rather innovative labels:

  • Download usb printing support

OK I have unfortunatly have windows 8.1 only because my old computer crashed and was forced to buy it. I hate it for my desktop. Aside from it having to restart IE all the time I am suddenly having problems with my printer. I have a HP Laserjet 1100.  Yes its old but it prints wonderfully. People think I must own an expensive printer when they see the copies. Anyway, the last time I printed on my computer was in October of 2014 and it printed fine. Suddenly it won't print now. I tried removing and reinstalling to no avail. I Dled the HP print and scan doctor. It said the drivers were installed but that I needed to click the Get Installer button to DLed the USB printing support.  I was expecting it to take me to a page where I could read a disclaimer and click a DL button but instead it to me to the main DL center page. So I did a search for USB printing support and tried DLing a couple different things but DR still says I need to DL the USB printing support. Can someone please get me off this ride.  Thank you!

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
I am not a Laser Printer Expert;  I could possibly be wrong about this:
I do not see an answer that contradicts that you have already found:  There is not a solution for Windows 8.1 for this vintage Printer.
I spent some time looking at the Windows 7 solution and even for that OS the possibilities are severely limited -- the scan features are stripped and much of the printer's functionality are no longer available.  I would not recommend something so radical as downgrading to Windows 7 as a means to save the Printer.  You could print, maybe, after a bit of work -- but the functionality is gone.
It might be time to consider an printer upgrade.   Sigh.  There are some good choices in new Laser Printers if you decide to give one of them a chance.
    Good Luck.

  • Generic IEEE 1284.4 printing support [ Edited ]Re: Generic IEEE 1284.4 printing support [ Edited ]

Hi, I am following this post as I am having the same problem that I am trying to install LaserJet 1300 on my Window XP computer.  I see the post indicates IEEE 1284.4 printer support is included in Windows 7.  Does that mean I installed wrong printer driver?  From the device driver page, I only see driver for XP 64 bits, Windows 7 and Windows 8 and I selected Windows 7 32bits (because I have Windows XP 32 bits system).  or if there is IEEE 1284.4 printer support driver for Windows XP can download?

The basic print driver for your printer are already included within Windows 7 32 bit OS.
    1. Plug a USB cable from your printer to your PC.
    2. Windows 7 is suppose to automatically detect and install built in drivers.
NOTE: Computer may need to be connected to the internet in order for Windows to automatically download the updated built-in driver list.

By the way, IEEE 1284.4 printing support refers to the much older bi-directional parallel port printers.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_1284
Windows may be generically calling it that because it does not yet recognize your printer.

  • IMac and Fusion Printing Issues

I have fusion running Windows XP on my iMac with an HP 4600 color laserjet printer connected to the network. I can print easily from the iMac, from a server that is Windows based and from my macbook pro and macbook air. But I can't print within XP in Fusion. It prints one page if I ask for multiple copies and stops, says it will store the job on the printer and then tells me the printer can't store the job. I've had my IT person check it out and he can't figure it out. Anyone offer any ideas? Right now I'm transfering any files from fusion to the windows server to print them and it's time consuming and frustrating. I haven't had any luck with VMWare.

You should really consider posting your Fusion related questions on VMWare's own forums, as it's not an Apple product, and Apple discussions only provide support for Apple products:

  • Windows 8 phone bluetooth/WiFi printer support

Do you have or will you have any apps for Windows 8 phone to allow printing to bluetooth or WiFi printers directly.  I have HP Officejet 100 Mobile Printer and HP officejet 6500A and can find no help either from Microsoft or Nokia currently to allow me to use Nokia 928 with these printers. (HP Print Control?)
I understand HPePrint and use it to print moblily with QuickBooks Online.  I also use the mobile printer in my truck with an Android device using PrinterShare.
I was trying to upgrade all of my devices to Windows 8 and ran into the problem of no HID support with Windows 8 phone.  Microsoft is indicating no desire to include HID in operating system and say that it is a function of manufactures to supply apps..etc.
I would like a response from your prospective because I have about a week left to return the phone if I can not print to a local printer,  bluetooth preferably and or WiFi.

  • Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite and HP Printer Support

    Hi Omar,
I hope we can help get through this, & Thank You!  So since at this point it seems the software did have problems, either from being removed previously or just the combination of a few things, upgrade, install, and uninstall.
If this is the only printer you have, then I suggest the following.
    1. Go to System Preferences
    2. Go to Printers & Scanners
    3. (This step will remove all printers from the print queue) Right click on your printer on the left and choose "Reset Printing System"
    4. Close out of Pritners & Scanners and System Preferences
    5. Open Finder
    6. Click on "Applications" on the left side
    7. Move the HP or Hewlett-Packard folder to the Trash
    8. Click "Finder" on the top menu by the Apple symbol, click on "Empty Trash" (then click Empty Trash to confirm)
    9. Close Finder
    10. Find the downloaded Full Feature software "HP-Inkjet-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.40" and attempt to install again
Note: Step 10 is under the assumption that your printer is still on the wireless network, and the mac is also on that same network.
    11. Follow the onscreen instructions, including on the 3rd screen (Customer Install) to CHECK the box for "HP Scan".
    12. Continue following instructions to install.
If the Printer was not on the wireless network still, then simply plug the USB cable in before running the installer, and choose to install USB to Wireless.  When that install is complete and you have added the Printer Queue for Bonjour, you will then want to remove the printer queue for the USB printer.
Please post back your results.  (I hope I answered the questions, if I missed something, please let me know)
    Thanks,
    Double-U-Dee

The Officejet 6500 Wireles (E709n_ do not support ePrint, only later models provide cloud capabilities.

  • Printing from MacBook Pro 17" Mid 2010 running 10.8.2 ... persistent inability for Apple MacBook Pro to print to a variety of HP printers (have run Windows and Ubuntu on Parallels and same printers work) ... what is going on with Apple printer support?

What is wrong with Apple's support of printers ... inability for MacBook Pros to connect with HP and other printers. Yet the same printers
work under Mac OS based Parallels (running Windows or Ubuntu) - WHY?  Finger pointing (HP . Apple ... Apple > HP) ... who cares ... FIX IT ... this has gone on for months now. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

HP discontinued support (read: stopped updating their OS X printer drivers) for a lot of their printers back when Apple released Snow Leopard and dropped even more when Lion was released.  This is an HP problem, not an Apple problem.
Exacty what  printers are you having problems with?
If any of your printers are on the HPIJS list, try installing the HPIJS drivers (there are 3 files to install, and it won't hurt anything).   This solved the issue for me on Snow Leopard, Lion and Mt. Lion with my older HP printers.
