Loss of volume in playback.

Hey all, I recorded a song on 4 tracks, and then saved it. I exited garageband a little too hastily and pressed enter maybe a few too many times, meaning I totally missed the 'mixdown'. Now when I open the song in garageband only 1 of the tracks can be heard. By the looks of it, the other 3 tracks are playing, but there is no sound at all from them.
Any ideas?

I am having the same problem. This same issue occurred a while back when they moved to the first CC version and it was maddening. I was in contact with text support about it and they were aware of it. They finally came out with a fix, but for some inexplicable reason, it's back.
Makes editing timelines very difficult, takes multiple passes to see how something is coming together when it randomly just out and you can't have the director or client look at it, cause they can't hear it!
There was a somewhat effective work around that improved but not removed the issue until the path came out. Go into the preferences in audio hardware and reduce the buffer size. That helped a little. not as much cut out not as often, but it still happens. Adobe claimed it was an issue with the graphics card of all things.
Anyway, I am having the issue as well and hope Adobe will issue another fix soon. Rather maddening to have the big fixed only to have it surface again after they fixed it previously.

Determining volume/gapless playback freezes iTunes when using NAS

I finally copied my CD collection onto a NAS/Squeezebox Server but after adding it to my library iTunes freezes trying to determine the volume and gapless playback info. The only thing I use iTunes for is moving songs onto my iPhone so I don't care about gapless playlists or the relative volume.
I've seen this issue in numerous other posts but none of the solutions have worked for me. I've tried to turn off Soundcheck in both properties and the burn menus but it doesn't help.
Any help would be appreciated.

Can you see which song iTunes is hanging on? If you can, before opening iTunes, delete (or move it) from the iTunes music directory. It may be corrupt and causing all your problems.

Locking Volume for Playback?

I'm working on playing Keyboards for "Spring Awakening" - I have some patches with an instrument and a triggered playback track - I want to be able to lock the volume of the Playback track while still being able to use my volume pedal with the EXS24 instrument. Is this possible?

Loss of volume when sharing to itunes

i'm trying to send a GB song to itunes but the volume is significantly lower when it gets there. thought it might be the compression with AAC or MP3 but when i sent it AIFF it is still muffled. the volume of this track is also lower than other GB tracks shared recently. GB is version 4.1.1, itunes 8, previous tracks i think were shared with the previous version of itunes. any thoughts?

i did try these things after looking at other threads when trying to raise the volume of previously shared tracks. but this track is still lower than tracks shared with sound enhancements and auto normalise on. the only thing i can think of is an itunes 8 glitch, this is the first track i've shared with the new version.

Loss of volume control for internal speakers

I have two 13 MBP's, one from 2010 and one from 2011. Since 10.7 both have had intermittent problems with losing the ability to change volume (SysPrefs Sound says "The selected device has no output controls"). I did find out for myself that zapping the PRAM fixed it, but now on the 2011 model that trick no longer works. I researched here and modified System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.audio.coreaudiod.plist to having the KeepAlive key set to true, but a restart afterwards simply gave me no change at all. I tried rebooting with my iPod headphones plugged in, but then was faced with no output devices at all in SysPrefs/Sound, and couldn't do a thing until I restored the original com.appleaudio.coreaudiod.plist file from TimeMachine and went back to fixed, full volume. I deleted user and System caches without any effect. Both machines had no sound problems at all with 10.6. Has anyone heard of any other tricks? I'd rather not have to reinstall Lion if a software update will soon fix this issue, which I hear is very common.

Later. I tried editing com.apple.audio.coreaudiod.plist when logged in as root and this time it has worked after logging back in with my usual account and restarting. Probably didn't get the permissions right on the edited file when I did it from my usual account (I duplicated, edited, replaced the original with the edited version which requires authorisation - evidently doesn't leave the file with the same permissions as doing it as root). Panic over - but Apple, a fix is required. Can't have this dumbed down OS for new users requiring them to enable root, logging in as root, and messing with system files!

I have the same problem. I use X-FI XtremeMusic audiocard and use a 5. dell speaker set. The problem appeared for me?right after updating to the newest drivers. I also would like to have a different solution than using?the?old drivers again.

Audio drop out / loss of audio in playback

Hello all, did a search but couldn't find anything relating to this.
Sometimes when watching back a sequence from the start Premiere often chooses not to playback certain parts of the audio on the timeline. I have to pause and un pause for it to catch up and start playing all audio.
As you can imagine kind of annoying when watching stuff back with Director!
This happens over most media used (Red, 5D, C300, synch audio, external recorded audio) across both my computers (Brand new macbook pro, Older desktop mac, one running mercury Open CL)
So a pretty wide variation of media and computers and getting the same problem...
Running PP CC latest version.
Any thoughts appreciated!

Post subject: Loss of volume: recording MIDI to audio

Hi all,
I normally don't convert my MIDI drums to audio but I did so recently in order to play with reverses and time stretching (recorded by setting MIDI output as Bus 1, Audio input as Bus 1). When I played back my drum audio track, I noticed that it wasn't nearly as loud as the MIDI track. Is this standard? I ended up putting a compressor on the Audio track for more gain, but just wanted to make sure.

Sometimes it does. You want to make sure that volume levels are at optimal levels. Some instruments set their default levels very conservatively. If you 'split out a drumkit'. You will notice the hihats might very soft in relation to the kick..
While using a compressor and setting a higher output works, (sometimes punches up drums) you might just use a gain plug-in, to keep a uniformity of sounds to each other

Burnt CD volume on playback not consistent

Can anybody help me with a setting that might be wrong... when I play back my burnt CD's, the colume of songs is not the same. I have my "sound enhancer" turned on but it doesn't seem to do anything... any suggetions?

It'll play fine for a few seconds depeding on the song and then the volume starts lowering then back to normal, and repeats throughout every song.

I have 2 iphone 4 and upgraded them to os6, one phone updated correctly and is working fine with no problems. The other phone is giving me nothing but problems. I intermitently lose use of my volume controls and when this happens the volume slider dissappears from the music app. even closing the phone and opening it does not bring these controls back but then all of a sudden they will appear only to dissappear as quickly, nothing I do seems to bring them back as I can leave the phone and when I go back to it they will be there. I also lose the click sounds from the keyboard. I have tried everything I can think of by erasing all content and settings 3 times, hard resetting many times. Any idea's?

I still have a 3GS and had NO intention of updating to iOS6 for the fear of the maps issue (because I use maps so frequently) and that it would **** near render my phone usless. But then I was unable to manage my Voice memos (also something I use frequently) so I sucked it up and upgraded yesterday.
And now the only volume control that I have seems to be in my iTunes. Can barely hear a phone call or voicemail and cannot adjust the volume at all, not even with a headset on. Fix this, Apple. Fix it NOW!!!

Intermittent loss of sound on playback of recordin...

On a random basis we lose the sound for 10-15 seconds and then it comes back again.
If I rewind the recording and play again, the sound is there, i.e. It is not lost on the recording, just disappears between the Vision box and TV.
I have the aerial UHF coax into the Vision box and then another UHF Coax to the TV, this is for watching live TV.
The Vision box is also connected to the TV using a HDMI cable (despite it not being HD!) which is the connection we switch to, to watch the vision box recordings or use it to pause live TV.
This is pretty annoying as it sometimes happens every 30 sec or so and then other days doesn't happen at all!
Any clues anyone? Especially BT Tech support people?

I too suffer this frustrating problem, would this "at800 filter" really fix the problem. I got a card advertising this " at800" through the door, but have not been able to read any views on this item.

Volume levels in playback on a Bose.

Since when downloading many tunes from various groups, albums, artists, etc., I find that many (most) downloads come through on playback at many differing volume levels. Is there a way to 'level out' the output volume thereby eliminating having to constantly turn up, or turn down volume on playback?

Sorry, I forgot to say that I am using a Bose docking system, and I constantly have to use the remote volume control to adjust the level on many different tunes...

My volume buttons have ceased to work when I want to use the built-in speakers, however they will work when I use my headphones....help!

It's not a jailbreak phone. The phone is a replacement from Apple and the volume buttons are virtually won't work for certain functions on the phone. Here are the symptoms:
When the volume buttons are pressed on the home screen i get "ringer" and the speaker symbol appear but nothing more (ie. +/- volume)
When playing back from iTunes with no headphones in, I get nothing through the internal speakers, nor do the volume buttons work, nor is the volume slider visable.
When i playback Youtube content with no headphones in, I get nothing through the internal speakers, nor do the volume buttons work, nor is the volume slider visable.
With headphones plugged in sound is audible and volume buttons work.
Whilst using voicemail, (no headphones connected) i can play the message through the speakers and control volume using side buttons.
I have restored the phone and this has not fixed the problem.

It sounds like your Volume buttons aren't working correctly and you are also not getting sound from your built in speaker. I would start by quitting all the running apps on your phone:
iOS: Force an app to close

Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the phone and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

I have the same problem with one of our two iPhone 4S's. I purchased 2 - 16gig iPhone 4S's at the same time from the online Apple Store here in Canada; one white and one black. I updated both the phones on the same night, within hours of eachother. Updating my black 16gig iPhone 4S went flawlessly. Updating the white iPhone 4S seemed to go fine until the day after when my wife said the volume buttons weren't working. Also, the volume slider is simply gone. The volume buttons work and the volume slider shows up when headphones are plugged in. There is volume and volume control with headphones, but not through speakers. The mute toggle switch on the side seems to work, except when it comes to sound output through the speakers.
It hasn't debilitated the device, but it's very frustrating for her because she can't hear her phone ringing. I tried the "headphone jack" trick to know avail.
iPhone Team, please validate the issue and push a fix!
