Lossless audio for MPEG-2 and MP4

When I export a video out to either MPEG-2 or MP4 (H.264) I am not able to select an option for lossless audio. Is there a way to add that option?
Thanks,
Mark

How do you plan to use the file?  Which lossless codec do you wish to use?  Is lossless audio appropriate for how the file will be distributed?  Are you looking for best quality or is there a different, specific reason that you wish to use lossless encoding?  (Also, what version of Adobe Media Encoder are you using?)
The list of available codecs for the MPEG formats can change depending on the Multiplexing setting you choose.  However, make sure that the multiplexing setting you choose is appropriate to how you intend to distribute the file.  For example, 3GPP multiplexing creates a file optimized for delivery to mobile devices.  And note that the None multiplexing option creates separate audio and video files.
Adobe Media Encoder only offers multiplexed AAC encoding for MPEG4 and H.264 files.  Although not lossless, the quality of AAC can be very high and is the general standard for the MPEG4 container format.  Lossless encoding is not common for the MPEG4 container format, though it is legal per the MPEG4 Part 14 specifications.  Again, you should match your export settings to the intended use of the video file.

  • Airplay Audio for TV Shows and Movies

I just purchased Airport Express for Airplay using my MacBook Pro, iTunes and iHome speakers. My music and radio stations on iTunes stream to the speakers with no problems. The audio for TV shows and movies on iTunes will not stream. Airplay is set for my iHome speakers and the audio only comes through on my computer speakers. I'm watching the movies/tv shows on my computer, not streaming to a TV. Any suggestions?

  • Trouble connecting audio for mpeg 2 upload

I am new to compressor but not to FCP. Have been searching the forum and reading but not getting it. My client wants me to upload a :60 to his FTP in MPEG-2. I understand that the audio file is separate when creating mpeg-2. How do I connect them and make a file to upload?
    Thanks
    FCP-5; Compressor 2

Compressor 2.x.x and earlier can only make MPEG-2 Transport Streams, not Program Streams. You need Compressor 3 or later to be able to make Program Streams using Compressor. But with a little help of a great application called MPEG Streamclip, you can easily make MPEG-2 Program Streams.
Encode your video and audio using Compressor. For audio, choose AIFF, and make sure it gets the same name as the .m2v, but of course with the right .aif suffix.
Open the .m2v file in MPEG Streamclip (the audio should automaticly load with the video file if they have the same file name). Choose the file menu and choose Covnvert To MPEG or Covnvert To MPEG Using MP2 Audio, depending on what your client wants. Ask them.
Keep in mind that when opening the .mpeg with PCM audio in QuickTime Player, you can not hear any audio. To check if the PCM audio really was included, open the .mpeg file in MPEG Streamclip and listen there. The .mpeg file with MP2 audio should play the audio in both QuickTime Player and MPEG Streamclip.
    Good luck!

  • No target for MPEG-2 and video elementary stream

What the heck does "could not create the DVD because there was no target that is an MPEG-2 elementary stream" mean?
I'm trying to create a DVD but once Compressor 3.5 was about to finish it said that. I tried to export from FCP to create a .aiff and then make a ac-3 from there. DVD Studio Pro Compressor not working.

Elementary streams are the two components that make up each movie's content on a DVD.
A video track in MPEG 2 format and an audio track in AC3 or AIFF format.
Sounds like the video part is missing in your case.

Someone recently noted a problem staying logged on the Huffington Post since it became connected with AOL. The workaround for that is to change your connection setting here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network
Click the "Settings" button and choose either "No Proxy" or "Use System Settings" option, and OK the change.
Not sure whether Washington Post could be affected by that same setting.
In reviewing your extensions, I'm puzzled that you have both DoNotTrackMe and SavvyConnect. The first one seems to aggressively block certain communications with websites (potentially affecting functionality) while the second one seems to report on your browsing habits (they better pay well is all I can say). Have you tried disabling both of those to see whether that has any effect?

  • Can't hear audio on tracks three and four

    Hi,
I'm new to FCP 5. When I go the the audio mix window I can see the audio for tracks 3 and 4, i just can't listen to it. I checked my general settings under real time audio mixing and it says 8 tracks. I don't have any other applications up. Any ideas?
I should also mention that when I turn off tracks 1 and 2 I still can't hear the other tracks
    Dual 2GB G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

First, check the simple things .. like are those 2 tracks muted? Are both tracks enabled?
Do FCP's meters indicate that there IS audio there? What happens if you load either of those tracks into the Viewer - can you hear them? What happens if you move the clips on those tracks up to track 1 & 2?

  • Recording iChat Audio for Podcast

I'm struggling to find a solution for recording audio for podcast interviews and am thinking that perhaps there's an easy answer I'm overlooking.
I have no problem connecting to an interview subject using iChat, however, my voice levels are only 50 to 75 percent as strong as the subject's. This same situation occurs when I'm using Skype. I have all of my input levels set to maximum.
Tests with Ecamm Call Record and Audio Hijack Pro have a similar problem.
Also, is there a way to record audio directly from iChat with these third-party apps?

    Umm, a Pretty problem.
I would first test with several Buddies to get their opinion on how loud you seem to them.
I can turn up my volume but it still requires that I speak as loud as I would in a conversation and face the Mic. If I sit too far back from the mic I get too quiet no matter how I talk.
I find this with people who test with me who confirm they have System Preferences > Sound > Input volume cranked up. (the worst are Australians sitting outside on the veranda for Breakfast and trying to show me the view with a laptop)
As I have two Macs sitting quite close to each other I do get feedback if I connect the two in a Chat so I have to pay attention to the volume setting.
Having said all that if the resultant recording seems too low in Volume at You end I would personally use iMovie 6 to teak the volume up when I spoke - either by Extracting it and cutting it up and increasing those portions or by using the purple and yellow dots to do so.
The Eccam page actually says this...
    Create a Podcast
Conference Recorder makes it easy convert your QuickTime movies into MP3 or AAC format. Simply drag a recorded QuickTime movie to the included "Convert to MP3" or "Convert to AAC" utilities, and let them do the work for you. Additionally, Conference Recorder records each side of the conversation on separate tracks, allowing for easy post-editing. The included "Split Movie Tracks" utility will automatically export each movie track to a separate file.
This would mean that you could turn up the track for your Audio in Quicktime Pro
Launch the file but not Playback
Go to the Window Menu > Show Movie Properties
    Select the Audio Setting tab.
Increase the Volume db on one Audio track and see if it your speech by playing.
Adjust as required (Change track if required).
Save File to save the adjustment.
    Hope this helps.

  • No audio on homepage video and its original iMovie clip

Can't find answer in discussions. Can anyone help?
Checked my homeage on .Mac, found one video clip has no audio suddenly.
All audio hardware is OK, volumes are OK, everything else is audible.
Checked iSync file for the video. Same, no audio.
Checked back to original iMovie clip and the audio clip shows on timeline but audio for this clip (and one other one) won't play. Rest of audio for the iMovie project it's from plays OK.
Tried discussion suggestion of playing a few notes in GarageBand (to clear an audio conflict?)-- didn't work. Audio on original iMovie clip won't play.
Any idea what can be causing this one clip to have audio failure? And how to get the clips' audio playing again so the iSync .Mac hompage clip can be replaced?
Related to this problem (?): Several months ago upgraded to QT 7 and previous QT 6.5.2 iMovie wouldn't load, found here in discussions to uninstall 7 and redownload 6.5.2, which I did and iMovie loaded/played OK.
Recently updated iTunes. Wondering if that caused this problem and how to uninstall that update if it is the cause.

A bizarre false alarm. After spending 3 hours running utilities, checking download reinstallers info. etc., turned out to be hardware connection. Had fitted a mono plug to a stereo plug for mono recorder monitoring for both ears. Original track on video was in mono feeding out on one channel. That channel wasn't the one the mono plug was feeding through, hence no audio on the mono clips. Yes, should have set the audio to mono on the original mono iMovie clips.
A reminder to check every little hardware issue first.

  • 8330 limited to .3gp and .mp4 for video

It seems to be a well kept secret that the BlackBerry Curve 8330 only supports video formats .3gp and .mp4 Simple Profile (SP).  There have been many forum queries on this subject.  In many cases the person asking has the 8330 and wants to work with .avi files.  The responders often assume .avi will work (since it does with all other Curves) and ends up pointing them down a dead end street.  I also notice that most of the forum queries never finish with a resolution.
This limitation puts a real damper on my ability to capture video with the 8330 Curve Video Camera and send it to friends and family.  Many of whom are novices at computers.  Requiring them to figure out how to watch a .3gp file is just wrong.   .3gp is the only format in which the Curve Video Camera captures, so when you email it, that is what they get.
Also, many of the recommended programs such as BlackBerry Video Converter do not work since the output  produces .avi files.   So far, I have struck out completely putting any format of video on the 8330 with BlackBerry Desktop Manager and actually getting it to work.
I know VLC and Quicktime will play captured 8330 videos (.3gp format).  But how many novice computer users have VLC or Quicktime?  And why should they be required to obtain them when Windows comes with Windows Media Player?
Can someone explain why the 8330 only supports .3gp and mp4 (limited to mpeg-4 SP (Simple Profile)) when the other Curves (8300, 8310, 8320, 8350i) all support .mp4, m4a, .mov, .3gp, .avi, and .wmv?
    Jim

    Hi niteshkumar482,
    Welcome to the Nokia forums!
It plays wmv audio, and mp4 format is just a container. Different mp4 videos may have differing audio and video stream configurations, some may play, some may not.
As for the MP3, did you perform a hard reset on your device?

  • FCPX + Lion + Cannot handle AAC or Apple Lossless audio in H.264! (Clicks and Pops)

This is a problem I've been having since I upgraded to Lion, and I've posted this response in other forums, but wanted to start a fresh one with a video I created of my findings. In a nutshell: FCPX in Lion cannot handle AAC audio in H.264 files since it will create audible clicks and pops when it subsequently renders the footage. This ***** because the iPhone 4 for example records as H.264 and AAC for the audio. Below are my findings:
So I think I figured it out! (I'm pretty sure FCPX + Lion has issues with compressed audio formats, ESPECIALLY AAC and Apple Lossless!) There's a video of my findings below:
    1. I tried doing exactly the same thing I was trying to do on my machine on a co-worker's Snow Leopard MBP, and it worked out fine (it was just importing an iPhone 4 .mov and exporting it in FCPX). The output file was pretty much the same as what came in.
    2. I found out that only movies from my iPhone 4 were coming out all crazy in the audio, yet my Canon T2i files were fine. Both are H.264, yet the Canon T2i records audio as Linear PCM, while the iPhone 4 records audio as AAC.
    3. So I got an idea to use screen flow to record a youtube video and record the computer's audio. Then I decided to export with different formats, both as HD NTSC standards and as web standards with H.264.
    4. I found out that both NTSC and H.264 standards were perfectly fine, SO LONG AS THE AUDIO WAS LINEAR PCM (or uncompressed!).
    5. I then exported the same clip (both times as H.264) and ONLY changed how the audio was rendered (either Linear PCM/Uncompressed or AAC) and VOILA, I got click and pop artifacts ONLY in the AAC version. The ones that were output as uncompressed audio were totally fine!
    CONCLUSION:
Final Cut Pro X on OS X Lion has issues with compressed audio, MAINLY AAC and Apple Lossless! Anything that is Linear PCM/Uncompressed should be fine! For example, MPEG 4 AAC Enhanced Low Delay at 320K came out 95% OK, one or two clicks.
So if any of us are working with material where the audio came to us already as AAC (like an iPhone 4), then we have to rip the audio out somehow first (like through VLC for example) and import it separately as an uncompressed file.
Here's a youtube video showing exactly what I'm talking about:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDw4btShH0s
Anybody else have any thoughts on this before Apple comes out with a fix?

I was having the same problem and spent several hours on the phone with apple working with one of their 3rd level support guys. Their is deffinatley a issue with Lion and FCPX. I was told  they would escalate to a FCPX engineer and they would get back to me in two days. In the mean time I went to my local apple store and was able to recreate the issue on every machine I tried. Apple did call back and confirm that there is an issue with the way FCPX and Lion handle the import and export of AAC files. They said there would hopefully be fixed in a future update.
The best work around I found is to take your AAC file and convert it to a WAV. I used compressor to do this and it seems to have solved the problem.

  • No settings for Apple Lossless Audio Codec found in Compressor

For archiving reasons I have to convert many audio files to Apple Lossless (ALAC). So I thought it would be easy using Compressor 4 and and a suitable droplet. I was astonished that here are only settings for the following audio formats: AAC, AC3, AIFF, CAF, MP3 and WAV.
No Apple Lossless Codec in the settings?
Does anyone know how to create ALAC files

    Thomas A. wrote:
This setting generates a QuickTime file with the extension .mov
Of course it does. Why would that be a problem? "Apple Lossless" is not a file format, it's a codec.
OK, if I change the extension manually to m4a it seems to be an ALAC file, but I am not sure if it a "correct" one in regard to the specifications.
There is no "ALAC" file format specification. What are you going to use the files for?
ALAC isn't specified at all. The audio codec is called "Apple Lossless", and it is a set of algorithms to encode audio data, and a specification for a bitstream of audio data encoded such. It can be put in various containers, the most common being MPEG-4 and Apple Quicktime, but nothing will stop you from using AVI, .mkv, .ogg or anything else as the container format.
If you're unhappy with Compressor, which only seems to offer the QuickTime container format for Apple Lossless-encoded audio, there might be other tools that will transfer it into another container while leaving the actual encoded data untouched.
Since the Apple Lossless codec is now free, mencoder might work, even for the encoding itself. I haven't checked MPEG Streamclip, Handbrake, VLC or others, which might also offer such options.
Quick tests didn't yield any success, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't work.
An alternative for lessless encoding is the "FLAC" (free lossless audio codec), which is usually stored in an ogg container file. I don't think Compressor offers that, although VLC does.
It seems that the exact thing you want is not readily available (i. e. mpeg-4 audio-only with Apple Lossless audio codec.)
