Lost 1680x1050 resolution

Clean install of SL last week with zero issues. Today used bootcamp to install XP. No problems noted. Boot into OS X, using my Westinghouse monitor as I have for many months now as my indoor display and the resolution is all messed up. I go into system preferences/Display and discover there is no 1680x1050 resolution setting anymore!!!
I reboot and it's still not there. Stuff is looking crappy and I'd like to get things back to the way they were. Help!!!!

i have a similar problem; I also lost my 1680x1050 resolution option. Have been looking around for solution but haven't found any yet. Could someone please help me?

Yes, it will do no harm, but it is meant for trouble shooting and you should not have to use it all the time.

  • Can't make ATI radeon use 1680x1050 resolution

I can't get my ati card to display 1680x1050 resolution in xorg. I'm running xorg 7.1 and the newest ati drivers. but I only get 1600x854 (or something) when trying to set it to 1680x1050. My video card is ATI Radeon Mobility 9700. Do  I need to update the firmware of the card, or is there a setup issue?
    Thanks in advance.

  • 1680x1050 Resolution Supported on Windows XP?

So I am deciding to buy a Dell SP2009W which is in the resolution of 1680x1050. In my Boot Camp Windows XP display properties, there isn't a resolution of 1680x1050. The only one that comes close to it is 1600x1024 or 1600x900. If I connect my monitor to my MacBook Pro, will Windows XP still support 1680x1050? Or do I need to download new drivers? If so, can anyone link me to the drivers? Thanks.

The reason it is only showing you those resolutions in XP is because of the monitor that is attached at the time doesn't support those other resolutions.
The Plug & Play ability of XP will automatically detect that the monitor that is attached is 1680x1050 resolution and it will display fine.
You can use dual monitors too and have the main MBP display set at 1900x1200 and the dell set at 1680x1050.
Simply put, it will work fine.

  • 1680x1050 resolution on External with RevA PB 12"

Does 1680x1050 resolution 20" Monitor work on 1680x1050 resolution with my 867 MHz first PB.
    Have anyone tried?

    Yeah thanks!
I realize that. I think i have the latest toshiba drivers but still not supported. I am sure the intel chip can support this resolution. Does anyone know why Toshiba don't support this resolution in their drivers as it is now quite a common eternal display size.
There are some forums talking of editing .inf files for different graphics cards. Or updating drivers in Linux on the 855 chipset but this is no use to me.
    Thank you for your help

  • Tecra A2: Cannot use the 1680x1050 resolution on external LCD monitor

    Hi All,
I need to make my Tecra A2 run at 1680x1050 at 60Hz for my new external VW222U LCD monitor which is connected to my port replicator.
I know the card (which is 82852/82855) can run at this resolution as when using the Intel Embedded drivers it works, just one has to give up all the little nice things when using the standard drivers, like monitor switching etc....
I have been discussing on many forums over at Intel's site why this resolution is not available by default, it appears that it is not a resolution enabled in the video BIOS which the display drivers read by default, so the vendor need to add it, the reason that the embedded drivers work, is that they don't read this directly from the video BIOS....
    Thanks and regards,
    Adam

    Hi,
I know that issue, but we have to live with it because it seems that the graphics card vendors are giving some really "default" drivers to the notebook manufacturers.
I have an Satellite Pro S200 and I also use the Intel drivers from the Intel homepage. But my monitorswitching, etc.. works like a charm so maybe if you install the tools like the "FN-F5" etc.. it would probably work.
I would give it a try, otherwise: it is like it is.. :/

  • No 1680x1050 Resolution for External Monitor?

Hello, forum friends! So after getting a very nice 22"-ish Envision Monitor connected via VGA to my 2011 Macbook Pro, it appears that there is no option for the monitor's recommended resolution, which is 1680x1050! The highest level resolution is 1600x1200, which makes everything look a little stretched out. Does anyone know how to adjust this manually, or has anyone else had this problem? I've heard that this is a new problem from the recent display update.
    Thanks for your help!

Hmm, I've appeared to solve my own problem! I simply used the application SwitchResX. It worked very well.
Hope this helps someone else, then!

  • Lost native resolution!

I had been very satisfied using an external LCD (22-in) monitor for months. For some unknown reasons, I can't seem to get the external monitor to display its native maximum resolution (1680x1050) any more.
I run Bootcamp and switched back and forth with the stupid Windows XP. But yesterday when I reboot the machine to get back to Mac OS, the display went out of whack. I tried to reinstall Mac OS but still cannot get the desired resolution. The max I have as shown in the menu choices is 1600x1200, in which all displays are shown in distorted aspect ratio.
    Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks for your feedback. Before reading your reply, I made several unsuccessful and frustrating attempts, including reinstalling the OS (I am a newbie with Mac OS). I finally installed SwitchResX, which helped considerably but the fonts (especially small ones) are still not displaying the same quality as I had before. With SwithResX installed I seem to get the aspect ratio fixed but the fonts are still having partial "fade section" (the color of the displaying character is not consistently solid). During the process of reinstalling the OS, I replaced the old system folder with a new one, the trashed the old system folder. Did this process effectively 'reset' (clean off) the corrupt display preference files?
Any way, after wasting too much time on this issue, I've learned to live with the 'imperfection' of my Mac. I wonder if my graphic card is messed up?

  • Anti-Glare 1680x1050 Resolution Question

    Hello Gang,
I have a question, please. I have had anti-glare 15" MBP for years and after using my wifes new Glossy Screen MPB I know I would hate it so I am going to purchase a new anti-glare MBP, However, they do not seem to come in native 1440X900 Resolution anymore. Since my local Apple Stores do not have one to test out can anyone tell me if the text on the native 1680X1050 models is really that mush smaller? My eyes have just settled into a new pair if biofocals so I would hate to have go through that all over again.
Yes, I know the resolution can be changed but it never really looks good when you can from the native resolution.
    TIA,
    James

I don't have one of the new anti-glare HD models, but I am assuming (and hoping that someone will jump in and correct me if I'm wrong) that resolution can be set lower, just as in any Mac model. Look at the 'supported resolutions' on this page - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP649.
    Regards,

The native resolution is 1680x1050, changing it will result in signficantly lower quality, this is not a solution.

  • Using a Samsung SyncMaster T220 1680X1050 resolution monitor

Whenever I try using the above external monitor at the listed native resolution, my Macbook displays it for a split second before becoming a black screen. All of the lower resolutions listed in the Display PreferencePane work, but it's blurry and not too enjoyable to use (at the moment I'm using a 1280X800 resolution on it).
I read somewhere that the SwitchResX application works, and I've tried it successfully too but I don't want to purchase more software for my Mac. Are there any other alternative solutions to this problem?
As always, thanks for any help you can provide!

First off, if SRX is the solution to your problem, the shareware fee seems to be a small price to pay given the alternative.
But you could also just uninstall it. Now that it has appended the needed resolution to OS X data file, the data will remain, with or without SRX being installed.

  • Lost screen resolution option

Actually, this isn't a question about an Apple monitor, but it's the kind of thing contributors here seem to know about. Hope that's OK.
I've been happily using my G4 (1.25 Dual) with a Belinea 17" CRT (30 10 20) for some years, with successive versions of OSX. Just recently I opened 'Displays' in System Preferences and closed it, without altering anything, and the screen resolution immediately changed.
Now I can't change it back - evidently the original resolution is no longer shown in the drop down list. If anyone knows ANYTHING I can do to get it back again, I'd be eternally grateful, as this has ruined my Mac-using experience.
    Thanks,
    Andy

Thanks to everyone who replied, I sorted it out in the end!

  • 1680X1050 Resolution for external display is not an option in Lion?

I am using a DVI to mini DVI connection on my MacBook Pro and did not have this problem with Snow Leopard.  Is there anyway I can get this resolution as an option?

    Hello William
I have no experience with this but somewhere on this forum I have read similar topic. Before you wait here use advanced search option and use 1680 x 1050 as searched term. I am pretty sure you will find this topic where one guy explained how to set 1680 x 1050 resolution on external monitor.
    Good luck!

  • New Mac Pro/Yosemite lost display resolutions that were in Mavericks

After a 9 hour migration process from my old Mac Pro, late 2007 2.8Ghz Dual Quad core, to a new Mac Pro 3.5Ghz 6-Core, I have had issues with the display resolution I used on my old Mac Pro. They don't show up in the list of available resolutions, and now everything on my Dell 30" display is HUGE! How can I get the resolution settings back to where the old Mac Pro was?

In the System Preferences "Display" pane - do you have "Best for display" or "Scaled" selected for the problematic 30" Dell display. Based on your comments I'm guessing it's the "Scaled" option which should show you the list of all resolutions that it knows your graphics board can do. So what graphics board do you have in the new and old Mac Pro? It's listed in the "System Information" app (click on the Apple in the menu bar at the top of the screen, then hold down the Option key and then click on "System Information". The graphics board is listed in the "Graphics/Displays" option about half way down the list of Hardware items on the left of the page. Did you migrate the old graphics board in the older Mac Pro over to the new one or does the new Mac Pro have it's own? What exactly is the list of resolutions that are shown for your new Mac Pro with the Dell 30"?
Also I'm a little confused - on which system is the Dell 30" on now - the old Mac Pro or the new one? Which resolution setting did the Dell on the old Mac Pro used to be set at and what is it now on the new Mac Pro?

  • Lost native resolution 1920x1200 mbp 17"

The native resolution on my mbp 17" of 1920x1200 is no longer on my resolution list and all of the remaining display settings are not good.  Any ideas?  Not sure why it is no longer available.

The native resolution of the new 17" MBP is not the same as yours. Your older model's resolution is less than the new model. This has nothing to do with version of OS X.
