Lost a lot of itunes files and purchases

I was using my laptop when I found that it was getting quite slow. I then went to the processes tab of Windows Task Manager and closed a bunch of processes including "Itunes helper". I now have lost almost all of the purchases I have made over the years. Can anyone help?

Look in \Music\iTunes\iTunes media\ (or \iTunes music\).

  • I moved iTunes and library to new Hard drive M: , now Sync is lost. Need to collect files and rebuild to proper folder.

I installed a new hard drive and partitioned it into 2, P: Pictures: and M: Music: . I moved all my iTunes Files and Folders to the M: drive. Then when I connected my iPhone4 to iTunes it asked if I wanted to create a new sync, I said no but I seemed it couldn't find my old sync file. So I searched my computer for files and folders of iTunes and placed them all into a iTunes folder on the root of M: drive. I need to rebuild the iTunes folder correctly.
I have all the correct items on my iPhone and haven't lost anything. Its just a problem trying to sync. Biggest problem is my music. When I try to sync music there is trouble. I can't seen to remove all music from iPhone and resync. When I thought I did iTunes would say no more music will fit. (Music is normally 70% of my memory on phone and I try and leave 1GB of 16GB free on it).
I wan't to build the iTunes install on the D:\Program Files (x64)\  since I don't install anything on my SSD drive C: except Windows 7.

How exactly did you move the files or more specifically, what did you move?
The correct way to move the iTunes files is to move the ENTIRE iTunes folder (or copy it) from the original location to the new location.
Once moved, hold Shift while launching iTunes and point it to the new location.
If anything other than the ENTIRE iTunes folder was moved, it needs to be put back in the original location to correct the issues created then moved correctly.

  • I have a 2tb time capsule wondering how to store a lot of my files and photos on it to free up some space on my hard drive on my iMac

i have a 2tb time capsule wondering how to store a lot of my files and photos on it to free up some space on my hard drive on my iMac

For iMac please use USB or even better a FW800 or if you can afford it, a thunderbolt drive.. on your 2011 Mac.
Time Capsule is not a suitable place to store your files.
    1. You will have no backup.
    2. TC cannot back itself up, nor can Time Machine backup network drives.
    3. Apple says specifically of iphoto not to store library on network drive.
    iphoto network no no.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198
It's recommended that you store your iPhoto library on a locally mounted hard drive. Storing your iPhoto library on a network share can lead to poor performance, data corruption, or data loss.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6692100
    4. Other libraries may not corrupt but will run very slowly. iTunes for example.
Please purchase the fastest drive out of the external ports you have available.. usb2 although the slowest is still faster than TC over gigabit. It is also more reliable. TC are not a noted reliable storage drive. It is designed as a backup location for TM files.

  • Can I copy my iTunes files and folders to Time Capsule wirelessly from my PC?

Can I copy my iTunes files and folders to Time Capsule wirelessly from my PC? I was wondering since my iTunes files and folders are connected to iTunes.

You can but the TC is the worst possible location. The design is slow to start and quick to stop data connections.. that will cause trouble.
    Moving folders has specific instructions.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1364
Move it to an external hard disk fine.. but be very sure you will not be happy with the TC as a location.

Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting that track from your iTunes library and redownload it via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the same state then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

    Try this:
    1. Settings>General>Date & Time>Turn off set automatically
    2. Set date one year ahead
    3. Go back to iTunes and try again.
    4. You will get the same error.
    5. Go back to settings general date and time and turn back on 'set automatically'
Try connecting to iTune Store again.

MSVCR80.dll missing. Is this necessary iTunes file and is it safe to download?

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • I deleted all my iTunes files and need help recreating them.

    Hello everyone
I accidentlly deleted all the iTunes files (NOT the content, just the files iTunes uses in its database). When I tried to create a new database, iTunes moved all my my music videos into the Movies or Home videos, which I don't want. I have a copy of my folder set up that I want iTunes to use and to not alter (exactly as it was before I deleted the files). Here is what I thought I need to do. Please corect me if I am wrong:
    1. remove all the files that iTunes has relocated to different folders (IE, basically delete them all)
    2. copy the folders onto the drive I use for my media
    3. start itunes
4 unselect Keep my files organized
    5. scan the folders
    6. Select all the music and videos and classify them as "Music" or "Music Videos"
This should keep all the files in the same folders as the backup copy, without moving them to Videos or Home Videos. I assume this will also retain the current Artist / Album / Song hierarchy.
    Is this correct?
Any better way to do this?
    Thanks everyone who can help!
    JoHN

    1) If you bought them from Apple you canprobably download them again.
    2) If you back up your computer as you should, they will be on the backup.
    3) If you stop using your computer this instant (because as you use the computer it overwrites deleted files even if you have lots of space), buy recovery software ($100+), there is a  chance you can recover some of them, though they may have lost filenames and will be in quite a mess.

  • Lost 30-40 gigs of files and settings

Today I suddenly lost a lot of files on my MacBook Pro 5,1. Examples of what I have lost:
    Files:
All files on desktop exept one. No folders lost
All files in the default images folder. No folders lost
    Settings lost:
    Dock is back to default
No image as desktop background. Just skyblue solid colour.
Mailsettings are gone and the settings configurator starts asking on mail server and so on.
Safari is reset. Apple startpage, no bookmarks. Log of visited pages are ok.
Flash cant be installed. Installer hangs just before finish.
Itunes doesnt show any of my music. Starts up as new.
Time Machine asks which disk should be used as backup ( I have backup by the way )
    Other:
Photoshops starts up, not Illustrator or Dreamweaver. Word  crashes during upstart. iOs Simulator starts up.
What i did mostly before this happed was installing Pear to use some php framwork. I also run some php to update a web CMS.
Is there anything I can do exept restore from Time Machine?
(this might be crossposted if i cant find a way to delete the copy post in the macbook pro forum. It belongs here I guess)

Disconnect all peripherals from your computer. Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751 and restart your computer.
If you still cannot locate your files, uninstall Pear and all related files, use Spotlight to locate files.

  • I seem to have lost most of my itunes library and cannot locate it

I  recently backed up my ipad and iphone but seem to have lost most of my itunes music.  Any ideas

*Most of the library now has the little !*
That just means that iTunes can't locate the files. Have you perhaps moved, deleted or renamed a folder that contained the music you had in your library?
*however some songs are still on one of the iPods*
There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

  • Same itunes login and purchases, different computer...

the computer i had about 2 months ago was the one i downloaded itunes onto and originally bought songs on, but as the old computer just died, i had to get a new computer, which is the one i am now using. i downloaded itunes on here and had a few of my purchased songs on my ipod shuffle so i transferred them to the library. i couldnt keep any of the files on my old computer because i couldnt access them, how can i get my purchased songs back to the library i am Now using. i have the correct email and login so surely this is possible. if not, can i get a refund for the purchased songs i no longer have?

It is your responsibility to keep up with your purchases. You should always back up info/music/pics to an external sources as hard drives can and do fail.
"can i get a refund for the purchased songs i no longer have?"
    No.
From the terms of service of itunes:
"PRODUCTS CAN ONLY BE DOWNLOADED ONCE; AFTER BEING DOWNLOADED, THEY CANNOT BE REPLACED IF LOST FOR ANY REASON. YOU SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BACKING UP YOUR OWN SYSTEM"

  • How can I merge an AOL iTunes files and new(different) iTunes files?

I used to have an AOL iTunes account. I now have an iTunes account and can no longer access these files purchased under AOL iTunes account. How can I merge these accounts or even access the files under the AOL iTunes account? In addition, I can no longer access the old AOL iTunes account name.
When I try to play any of these files, I am asked to authorize the computer with the AOL iTunes account name and it does not accept the information.

There is no way to link or merge Apple IDs.

  • Sample files and Purchased file quality

Can anyone else tell that for most songs the samples on iTms sounds slightly better than the purchased version of that song? For some songs I definitely detect better crispness at the end lick' of guitar twangs and more dynamic range on the bass levels of some tracks or - both on the same track like the song "photograph" by Nickelback.
I am interested if there are any other audiophiles out there with good speakers who can detect these differences. It may just the difference of a 44.1 khz file and 48 khz one but it matters to me. Speculations abound that apple or the recording companies may slightly tweak the sample tracks with some sort of filter while they are streaming to make sure that songs sound good when people are sampling them. Any thoughts on that or actual info/evidence that this is the case?

I haven't noticed this. One possible explanation of your Nickleback experience is that the sample is in the middle of the song. During a mix subtle changes take place over the course of a song. For example if the bass is louder it can take away frequencies from the bottom end of the other parts of the song. It could also be that Itunes has been supplied with a radio mix for the single. Generally more time is spent mixing and mastering the single off an album than the other songs. They compress it more to make it louder over all. Radio singles aren't always put on a record (Oops, I mean cd. Now you know, I'm old) because the difference in sound is enough to be noticeable. Take note, that doesn't necessarily mean it will sound better. Just louder. Have you ever noticed how fm rock radio is hard to listen to for an extended period? That is because they are trading sound quality for more gain(volume). If you are really worried about fidelity then you should go buy the cd. If you want better sound quality into your ipod don't convert them to mp4.
