Lost a LOT of WORK in a very strange way...

I just finished a long demo project (imovie 3.0.3) at 2 am last night.
I watched it and saved it 2 x , only on my external hardrive, no other back ups. And this morning I go to open it up, with the idea of putting it onto dvd and everything seems snafued:
My timeline is gone and all the clips are chopped up in the clips pane in 28 second chunks....
I've tried pasting everything back into order and each clip is somehow shorter than it used to be- my 2 min 10 sec video is reduced to like 30 seconds... Hair ripping experience.
I don't know where my edited audio is either...
I'm trying to figure out how to recapture everything without having to start all over...
More info: this past 2 weeks any time i opened i movie (after shutting the computer down) my work in progress file would automatically open up- it would ask" x amount of stray files in your project, do want to keep them or trash them" and I would say keep them; then it would bring another pop up saying " do you want to move clips into clip panes or leave files alone" and I would say move them to clip pane.
This morning my project did not come up so i went to go and open it up automatically and so i went through the steps to open it up in my files, and then the same questions come up....
A list of all my files, audio, video, photo etc is present in the list- but when i open it up all the clips are in the clip pane, with no audio and no timeline...NO VIDEO

perhaps, just perhaps some clever person or some other tormented fellow has had this situation and can scoop me out my dementia's poop!!!

Sounds a little odd- but what do you mean by what formatting does my external hard drive pocess... It is Lacie 250 gig external hard drive ; my project was about 4 gigs alltogethere.
Since my last post i realized that these 0.28 sec. clips are all transitions- from the las clip to the next - it does not actually show me the " transition" icon neither in the pane nor if i drag it into the timeline; they are mini tansitions only.
I've also looked in my media files for my project and realized that that all these 0:28 clips are listed as transitions... there are no records of any actual movies.... my pictures are intact and my titles are as well../

Song order messing up in very strange ways.

I've recently had a very strange problem with itunes displaying the album song order correctly.
For some (not all, but quite a few) of my albums, The first song has moved to the last slot. Sometimes this happens for up to 5 or 6 different songs in an album. The strangest part, however, is that albums will begin to do this randomly. Albums that were perfectly fine the day before are now also messed up. I have already tried correcting tags and double checking to make sure everything is the same for all songs. Is there any solution to this problem?

Lost a lot of work.

I just lost an entire script i was working on because apparently i was using an old, free version of story.
When i updated, i could no longer log in on the desktop application, and when i checked if any of my documents were still there online, all i saw was a bunch of almost a year old files. Is there a way for me to get those documents back, or am i simply screwed here?
i really need the files back, as we are actually shooting this weekend, and i have almost no time to write the entire thing over again. Support is gratly appriciated.

Updated an app & lost a lot of work

I just updated an app that I used to make flashcards. It had close to 400 cards in it an the update wiped them out. I have to believe that they are in there somewhere. Can someone tell me if there is a finder type app on the ipad, or some other way to find the files. I still have the old version in itunes but have no clue how to figure out if my cards are in it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Without a backup from the time when the data still has been on your iPad, you can't get your app data back.
The apps stored in iTunes on your computer just contain the program without any other personal data.
Check if you can find another backup listed in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices to restore from.
If you can't, maybe you included the iTunes backup folder into your computer backup routine and could be able to restore the old backup again. Details on that can be found here:

guys this is so odd and pointless but for some reason my charger wont let my iphone charge or ipod but it works for iphone. iphone running ios 7 same with ipad. any solutions?

Left mouse controls not working... very strange

I don't believe this is unique to R40 so any help would be appreciated
I have just installed new hard drive and now the left track point and ultranav left mouse does not work. If I go to
mouse>ultranav> settings> buttons> left click and select jump to start it works until standby power off or logon screen. So
again it works until any of the above and then I need a usb mouse to re enable the left mouse control. I do not believe it is a
hardware issue as all 3 left click methods will work until standby etc. i have re-installed latest drivers and am now considering a
reinstall of Windows XP.
Any suggestions???

Click Apple >> System Preferences >> Accessibility.
Click Displays on the left.
You can try inverted colours there, or "enhance contrast".

I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more. And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should. On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much. I will post a note in the app store to let them know. I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
Starbucks app works as it should.
I will stop back again next week after I have had the weekend to play with it in detail and post my thoughts again.

As I've already said to get this far: I have lost a lot of tracks while syncing my iPod Touch with iTunes. I have managed to get free downloads of some of the single tracks, but when I try to download entire albums the system informs me that I have already purchased them and a pop-up window informs me I can get them back from my "Purchased" file. I would not be trying to dowload them again if they were anywhere on the iPod, would I? The other problem seems to be that with single tracks I don't know before I hit the purchase button if I have picked it from the right album and I have had to pay for it again.
I feel that I have been totally ripped off by iTunes and, apart from ranting on this forum, I don't seem to be able to let my feelings known. It's like a guy from my local record store coming round and nicking my albums and telling me that it's tough!
The point here is folks, that it was syncing two Apple sites which caused the loss of these tracks and from what I've read elsewhere this is a regular fault. And please don't tell me that it's my fault for having a pc. Apple shouldn't sell a product for pc, when it doesn't work on pc!

- Are you saying that they are not listed in your Purchased section?
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
- Are they listed in your Puchases history when you log into your account on your computer?
- Are they still available now for purchase? If not then you are out of luck
If they are still available and listed in your Puchase History then contact iTunes

Open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Photo Stream then reselect it.
Now for your music. Launch iTunes. From the iTunes menu bar top of your screen click iTunes > Preferences then select the Store tab.
Select: Music. (and Apps and Books) if you want.
Click OK.
iCloud syncs via your Wi-Fi network so give it a minute or two to reset your photos and music.
Slow internet ... try turning off the modem for a few minutes, then turn it back on.

I lost one of my "work area" markers

Hello,
I somehow lost one of my work area markers. How do I get it back onto the timeline ?
On this subject, I always find it awkward when I try to drag the left marker to the left side of my work area footage on the timeline, is there not an easier way to do this, than grabbing at it with the mouse ?
I will first define my "in" and "out" points on the timeline.
Then I drag the 2 markers to define that area, and they will snap nicely to where I have put the "in" and "Out" markers, however grabbing that left "work area" marker just isn't easy to do, and now, one of them is missing.
I'm sure the missing marker is there, I just can't find it.

Thank you for the information. I looked into the keyboard shortcuts, and that did the trick ! , the elusive left marker has re-appeared. I wonder where it was, perhaps somewhere on the timeline where I didn't see it.
I think I shall start using more of the keyboard shortcuts, some of these look like they can save a lot of time.

Will I loose my projects (7 books to print of 265 pages each which mean a lot of work) if I upgrade from iPhoto 7 to latest version ?

I'm on OSX 10.7.5. I have worked over 2 years on 7 books of 265 pages to print via iPhoto 7. Now that I'm ready to print them… it says that I need a newer version. I'm really afraid to upgrade, because I don't want to loose everything. If I upgrade to Photo will my projects be affect ?

Personally, I would also make an independent back up, just in case:
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

When I shut off the computer, firefox say's trouble with ending, and then it won't save my bookmarks that i had prior. I'm losing a lot of work why is this? It won't save my bookmarks.

1. You're using an old version of Firefox that is no longer supported. You should upgrade to either Firefox 3.6.17 or the newest version - 4.0.1.

2. When you reboot your computer while Firefox is open, you risk losing data. Firefox has backups of your bookmarks file, see this to learn how you can restore a backup from a previous day.

If you previously had iWork '09, those apps are still in your Applications folder in a folder named iWork '09 unless you deliberately deleted them.
If you did delete them & have a Time Machine backup that includes your Applications folder you can restore them from there. In the past the iWork apps have not worked well when copied from another drive, but some users have reported that this works for them, especially if the apps were originally purchased from the Mac App Store. If you originally installed them from the retail disk, find the disk & reinstall them & then update to iWork 9.3.
