after upgrading to Mountain Lion lost control of volume. Icon in tool bar is grayed out. how do you solve this problem?

Adjusting Volume Control - Incoming calls too loud

I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT19000 mobile phone. I have no problem adjusting the volume of normal calls, but when using Skype on my mobile, the speaker volume is so loud that I have to hold the phone away from my ear or put in an earplug. Does anybody know how to adjust the volume in Skype?

I have played with the media volume while on calls and when not on calls. This does not adjust the sound for skype. None of my phone's sound options adjust the sound for skype. Still no solution?

Satellite L300-147- Manual volume control not working

The manual volume control on the laptop is no longer working. If I try to adjust the volume (on the right the headphone plug-ins)- I just keep scrolling. As a result, I can only watch DVD on a really low volume level. I have adjusted volume control under "control panel" to the maximum level.
Any ideas to fix this please?

Believe me buddy, this is absolutely normal.
I have Satellite L300 too and I can still scroll the volume control although the sound is on lowest level (I can see this in Windows sound properties).
To be honest I didnt have any notebook as yet where the volume control ends on a certain point.

Clamshell Mode Question - Yosemite - Volume Controls on External Keyboard

I was wondering if it was possible while in clamshell mode to, instead having to use the remote on the TV to adjust volume controls, but rather use the external board to control the TV's volume controls?
Obviously when I change the output device to the Macbook Pro the speakers kick on, a lot lower than the TV of course, but the external keyboard picks back up the volume control scroller. Again when I switch it back to the TV the TV speakers kick back on.
I am using a Macbook Pro (Late 2011) on Yosemite 10.10.1.
Using a HDMI adapter to connect to the TV, and the keyboard is the Corsair Gaming keyboard.

Here is what worked for me. My scrolling on the mighty mouse and a few buttons on my wireless keyboard weren't working properly. I reset the SMC, a link explaining the process is below. Hope it helps you too!

Possible fix for no audio & grayed-out volume control

Hi, I just thought I'd post this fix I found for my Mac Mini losing audio and also having the volume control grayed-out as if permanently muted.
I have had this problem a couple of times on my Intel 2 GHz Core 2 Duo Mac Mini. I have tried some of the software solutions found on the web such as zapping PRAM, deleting certain Plists, etc. But in my experience the fix that has worked is to open the Mac Mini and unseat and then reseat the orange Foxconn ribbon audio cable where it connects from the Mini's audio board to what I assume is the main circuit board. Then when you reassemble and turn on your Mac, audio will be back.
My theory is that unplugging and re-plugging USB and audio cables on the back of the Mini near the audio board eventually loosens the internal ribbon cable and causes the audio to stop working. My latest attempt at a permanent solution is to have USB and analog 2.5mm stereo audio 'extender' cables plugged in on the back of my Mini, which loop forwards over the top of the Mini where they are all taped down securely. This allows me to plug and unplug cables without ever disturbing the actual USB and audio ports on the back of the Mini. I am hoping this will help avoid the lost audio & grayed-out volume control problem in the future since the connection of the internal audio ribbon cable is less likely to be disturbed. It is a somewhat ugly solution but seems to be working so far. I'll post later on if the volume control gets grayed out again even with these measures.

Lost ability to control bluetooth volume with iOS 4

I have an iPhone 3Gs and upgraded to iOS4 last night. Everything works well except that I can no longer control my BlueAnt V1 bluetooth volume via the headset or the iphone. I have re-booted the phone, re-paired the headset to no avail. The volume control works fine for speaker and phone directly, but stays on high with the bluetooth... Any other suggestions? Is it just a new software glitch?

Did you only try re-pairing your did you delete the old pairing first.
Try deleting the old pairing in both the phone and the BlueAnt, restart both devices and then try re-pairing the two together.
In the iPhone to delete the pairing;
Settings - General - Bluetooth - Select the blue arrow of the device - Forget this device
To restart the iphone, hold home/sleep buttons together until you see the swipe to turn off and do that. The turn the phone back on.
You'll have to look up your user manual on how to delete the pairing in the BlueAnt.

Number one - that person has given you false information...the Apple store genius bar supports all Apple products whether in or out of warranty. Checking is free, service on an out of warranty item is not free.
Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.
Since you show that you have iOS 7.0.3 you might want to update that iOS to 7.0.4...plug the iPhone in so you are on a solid power source, then while on a WiFi go to Settings > General > Software Update and update to 7.0.4.

1st gen iPod touch has lost it's volume control

After last update my iPod has lost it's volume control. I've tried everything I can think of - including doing a complete wipe and reinstall.
I've tested with several different headphones, incl Apples own, a pair of Skullcandy and a pair of Sennheiser.
No matter what I plug in the volume is extremely low, and I have no way of turning it up.
I've tried starting a playlist and then leave the music in the background. Then normally double-tapping the home button brings up music controls. That does happen, but there are no volume controls. Also there is no "Dock Connector" label in the control box.
What can I do?

I'm suffering from the same frustrating problem. One thing that worked for me for a week was to go into settings->General and change the sound effects to just come out of headphones. Until recently it's been an intermittent issue, but now appears to be solid. The Retrospect you used way back when is no longer around. The company was sold and that company produced a new version of Retrospect - Retrospect 8.x
So, as you've been told, you would have to be running a Tiger system with an old version of Retrospect software (5.x or 6.x - you would need to know) assuming you can find the software.
As best I can remember you cannot extract files from a Retrospect backup except using the software since Retrospect did not normally make a file by file backup rather it created an archive of the files in the backup. I'm assuming that the EMC/Retrospect people have told you that old Retrospect backups are not accessible by Retrospect 8.x?

E71 music player lost volume control

Hi, my E71 has lost the volume control I was on a plane to LA and had no use of the MP3 player. I re-set the phone and it wasn't repaired.
Looks like the firm ware has lost this and as neither an update or a re-load option available not sure what to do.
Also how do you get the music play to update the libiray as I have deleted the music and it still shows? any ideas would be helpful.

Hi an update in trying different things the volume control worked when I removed the SD card hence I have now re-formated the card and all working.

Just change the check after the Lexical Class function. If you just want numbers and letters, then use the In Range & Coerce function to check for class numbers 3 through 5. Play around with the logic some more until you get what you need (I'm thinking that AND should be an OR).

Try using Recovery Manager to reinstall your Audio Driver ( this will probably be IDT, but could be Realtek or Conexant ) - the procedure for using recovery manager to reinstall Software and Drivers is detailed in the relevant document on the link below.

After the reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook.

Controlling the "beep" when you adjust volume

Hello.
In using my computer with Final Cut Pro I often have to adjust the system's volume - by that I mean putting my mouse over the little "speaker" icon in the top right corner. When I have to try and listen to something faint in a clip that means sliding the "slidder" much of the way up. Problem is when I do I get an ear-jolting "BEEP!"
Is there anyway to control or elimiate these "beep" sounds that occur when adjurting voume in this way? I can see how to change the nature and volume of the other sounds the computer creates but not this one.

Trying to see what is possibly corrupted- what about unchecking the other one? I guess you tried that too.
Also, when operating properly and both are checked (all sounds on) and the volume is turned up enough, you can temporarily mute the feedback sound in changing volume by holding down the Shift key. Does that work OK? This is when you use the keyboard volume controls, not the mouse.
