Lost Ability to click & drag links to email after clean install of Firefox v-19.0

Was experiencing numerous crashes on existing Firefox (v-18.0). Upgraded to 19.0 and still had same issues. Next performed a clean install altogether to v-19.0. So far that problem seems to have been resolved...however...
Issues now being experienced:
1. - Lost all ability to simply use the click and drag method to insert a 'live' url link and embed it into an email transmission (AOL webmail). When copying and pasting url, only link text is made available and I cannot modify hyperlink to make it behave like an actual link.
I've discovered that the only way I can even hope to retrieve a live link now is to use the "Email Link" add-on and allow it to launch in MS Outlook Express (default -- no option available for AOL), then copy and paste it from that venue into my composed AOL email. Only way to embed as a hyperlink. Once done I have to delete the created MS Outlook Express page, then can send my email transmission via AOL as I've done before. CRAZY!
2. - Also, when clicking and dragging a shortcut for an actual webpage to my desktop for a later quick launch, the shortcut icon is not recognizing it as a Firefox webpage. Rather a generic icon is presented -- and I have to manually go in to firefox.exe to retrieve icon graphic and reset it to that shortcut (if I decide to). And that's for each individual shortcut created...you have to do this separately for all you may have created on your desktop. The shortcut does work as it should, regardless, but I have never had to do this before and there is no "properties" option available to make an overall default change. Yet another CRAZY!
What happened while I wasn't looking?
I am running XP SP3...and have NEVER had these issues until now -- this is ALL new!
Anyone else have any experience with this...or solutions/work-arounds you've discovered?

I'm a Chrome user by choice. I use Firefox for two reasons only:
1) Speedbit video downloader
2) A second browser to handle secondary Google and Facebook sign-ins.
If I remove Speedbit, I lose 50% of my reason to use your browser at all.
Speedbit and Firefox worked together just fine before version 19.
PLEASE PROVIDE A PATCH. DON'T BLAME SPEEDBIT.

Mail 3.0 cannot send email after clean install

mail does not manage to send mail after leopard was installed via a clean install. It seems to work for upgraded machines, but unfortunately for me, I prefer the clean install.
The problem is, that the SMTP-server simply rejects sending attempts from mail. mail then simply says "cannot send message using the server ...". I got suspicious when I entered a wrong password as then mail says that authentication failed (so the communication has to work somehow).
So I worked on getting the server logs and they say the following:
+Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname; from=<[email protected]> to=<[email protected]> proto=ESMTP helo=<Core>+
Seems like my computer send only the computers name as hostname and not the .local part any more. Systems which have been upgraded instead of a clean install do it "right" meaning they send hostname.local instead of just hostname which gets accepted by the smtp-server.
So the question is, where is the problem here? I do not really know what would be the right behavior regrading the computers name and hostname but I realize that 10.5 differs here from 10.4 leading to the problem above. My workaround in the moment is using Thunderbird which is quite sad after buying and upgrading to the new system...

I am running into the same issue. My insightbb account wont send messages. My yahoo account on the other hand, works fine. Heck, Mail wont even let me setup the insightbb account. Sometimes i can, but it rejects my username. I have to use thunderbird to send email from my insightbb account

Recovering Emails after Clean Install

Hello,
I have upgraded my 4 year old MacBook Pro to Mavericks but am unhappy with the result.
I want to do a clean install back to the original operating system - I think Snow Leopard.
I don't have a time machine or similar so was wondering if I can copy the entire Mail/V2 folder onto a dvd then paste this back into the Mail folder after the reformat and thereby recover all of my emails.
Will this work?

If I were to export the messages onto a dvd, can I simply import the messages into the inbox of the clean install? I have never tried this before.

I can't always click on links in email to get to Firefox.

Firefox suddenly doesn't respond when I click on links in emails. The problem is sporadic, as sometimes it works fines. Sometimes I can solve it by double-clicking, sometimes not. Sometimes I can fix it temporarily by closing and restarting Firefox, but the fix only lasts a short time and I'm back to square one. I'm using Firefox 32.0 on a Mac using OS10.6.8.
I already tried making another browser my default browser, then switching back. Please advise. Thanks!

Do you only get this problem when Firefox isn't running or also when Firefox isn't running?
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

When clicking on link in email, new tab NOT being created, but new window on existing tab - I want NEW TAB for each link clicked on...

Up until today, whenever I clicked on link in email, a NEW TAB would be created. Now, when I click on link, a new WINDOW on existing tab is created - I WANT A NEW TAB, not a window...

Hmmm, which mail site is this?
One possibility is that you had a tab-related extension that automatically opened regular links in a new tab, and that the extension was disabled because it was incompatible with the latest version. To check for disabled add-ons, visit the Tools > Add-ons dialog.
As a short term workaround: you probably know you can force a link to open in a new tab by holding Ctrl when you click the link, or by using the "middle" mouse button (often the scroll wheel). I find that quicker than right-clicking the link and choosing Open in new tab.

When I click a link in email from the dock I get "no associated application can be found but if I used comcast email it goes through does anyone know how I can enable these links on my dock email?

I have four groups.
I just typed the name of one of those groups in the To field on the iPhone's email, and received:
Invalid Address
"<group name>" does not appear to be a valid email address. Do you want to send it anyway?
I clicked continue and it remains in my outbox.

I keep getting an error when clicking a link in email if firefox is not already open

If firefox in not open when I click a link in an email I get an error message. If firefox is already open it opens a new tab and works okay. After getting the error message it still opens firefox and goes to the link.

The actual error was "There was a problem sending the command to the program". This was the message inside the error box. The error box also shows a message "https://support.mozilla.com/questions/887286#answer-2...". I cant read anymore and can't copy any of the links or message.

Problem clicking on links to emails

Not that computer literate I'm afraid but the only way I can explain the problem: When people put a link rather than their email address , when I click on it I just get a box with Firefox trying to download...As I use Firefox , I just don't get it. If I allow it to re-load , it does, but nothing changes, I still can't click on the link and open it, it just starts the whole thing up again. Happens mainly with email links but sometimes with general links. Any ideas would be really welcome but can you speak REALLY simply? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for trying to help but to be honest, I didn't understand either of the links. Not sure if I made myself clear when I asked the question. It happens when people write something like - Email me "here" - and the "here" is a link. When I click on the link it just starts downloading Firefox again. Thank you again for trying to help....I think my lack of computer knowledge is the real problem....even the "Idiots Guides" seem above my pay grade!!!!

After updating I can no longer click on link in emails to open a web page the error produced is "There was an eror sending command to the program"

Click url links from email (thunderbird) don't work.

click url links embedded in email don't work. I tried the "fix" to go to thunderbird (email account) and follow tools-options-...but when I got to "advanced" it would not click. Clearing the "cache" seems to be important, but I'm not even sure that's the problem. It started to develop after I upgraded some add-on movie-audio feature to firefox. So, I suspect there is some incompatibility there. Please help.

Since posting, I figured it out with a google search - to simply find a way to identify firefox as my "Default browser" - apparently, any time you update windows or do add-ons from Bill Gates, he makes your computer take IE the default browser - so the clicking doesn't work from email on firefox. So, I went into the control panel for "default programs" and clicked again to make Firefox the one, re-booted and everything works fine now. I suspect that many people will find this approach very helpful when they get frustrated with the same problem. Thanks google!

When I click a link in email client (apple mail), it does not open in firefox. I have checked both Firefox and Safari and Firefox is the default browser.

When clicking a link in either apple mail or even from a word document, nothing happens.

Try to redo the default browser and make another browser like Safari the default and then let Firefox do it again.

When I click on a link in my email it takes me to firefox but nothing opens. It opens with no problems when going from gmail.

I am having the same problem - remedies attempted - check FFx is default browser (yes), software update and computer restart, reboot Mail * 4, check all Mail settings for options (none I can see ), check all FFx settings for same (none I can see), no result, look in here and see that other folks having same issue - will Apple respond (I will book a support session by phone as I have applecare. Mail also used to mark mails as read once I had selected them - now it insists that I double click and open them before it changes the marking - pain in the butt ...

Links in emails don't open in Firefox 33.1.1

I read the previous thread about this problem under FF 32 but wasn't able to respond there, so I'm starting a new thread.
I have had this problem for some time, back under FF 32. I even downloaded and reinstalled FF and when that didn't work, did the reset procedure. The update to 33.1.1 hasn't helped.
I'm running OS X 10.6.8 and Apple Mail v. 4.6. I keep FF open on my desktop after starting it. Usually it works OK when first started but then stops opening links or becomes erratic, sometimes opening them and sometimes not.
Any help/suggestions/news about this issue will be much appreciated.

AddressBook contacts lost after clean install, typical solutions don't work

After a clean install, I can't access any of my contacts, even after replacing ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook with the back up.
All my iApps were behaving strangely. iCal wouldn't open. Safari would freeze when you typed in a domain name. Mail would freeze whenever you sent an attachment. Sometimes the whole system would freeze - not even a spinning ball. Oddly enough, AddressBook was working fine. In any case, I opted to do a clean install to fix this.
Before doing a clean install, I used Retrospect to duplicate my entire PowerBook harddrive onto an external harddrive, which ran with several execution errors, none of which were apparently related to AddressBook (none of the files in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook, none of the com.addressbook preferences, etc.).
After doing my clean install, all the problems mentioned above were fixed. However, a new problem was created: all of my AddressBook contacts were gone. So I tried replacing ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook on my PowerBook with the copy on the external drive, making sure all iApps were closed, as explained here. No change. I repaired permissions, deleted AddressBook's preferences, logged out, tried again. No change. I replaced AddressBook's preferences on with the preferences on the external, no change.
I think one possible solution would be to back up my current data (which has some minor modifications to the back-up before the clean install), reinstall the old system, open AddressBook, export the files, reinstall the current data, and import the contacts from AddressBook. However, I'd like to avoid this step if possible. Moreover, I'm not even sure if that will work.
I have the AddressBook data sitting on the external drive. Does anyone have any idea about how to get that data back into AddressBook - including pictures - without doing what I just mentioned? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can't choose existing certificate to sign/decrypt email after profile installed

After profile installed, I can't choose existing S/MIME sign/encrypt certificate inside the phone. But ok if I config manually in iphone.
Is there any purpose for this? Is there anyway to let user choose certificate after profile installed?

I just thought I would put myself on this discussion, since I can't find anything to "fix" this problem. It seems to work for some people, but not others...
I have everything set up the same way as nebbbben. Server is set up, certificate installed, VPP set up, and everything works great for some of my users.
For about half of my users- I can send out invites, they will click on the invite and login to the App Store, but they will never show up in Profile Manager as registered for VPP on the Mac Server. For those that do- pushing apps is easy and transparent, although there is as much as a half-hour time delay. For those that can't get registered, no matter how many invites I send them, there isn't any way to distribute the apps. It's very frustrating, and the only "answers" I can find just say it should "just work."
I'm assigning apps to the users specifically, not to groups. I have no doubt it would work fine if the Server/VPP ever showed they were registered. The invite system seems to be hit-and-miss.
I'm wondering if there is a command-line hack or some other setting that can be changed to reset their App Store settings to try again?
