Lost ability to print PDF's

I'm running a Window Vista machine with an HP7960 printer. I've had no problem in the past printing PDF's, but when I tried to the other day, I could no longer print them. The print progress box comes up, it starts with 0% and immediately jumps to 100% but nothing prints. The printer que shows no file or activity. I can print any other kind of file with no problem. I've tried PDFs I've made as well as from other people / sites, to no avail. I tried the "print as image" also, with no success. If I create a new PDF, it will print once, but then no more. The only change to my system I see is that I updated to Adobe Reader X a day or so before I noticed the problem. Is that my issue, or is there something else?? Any help is appreciated.

Do you have Adobe Reader installed? You should still be able to see PDF files though as that is built into most internet browsers. Which browser / browser version are you using?

Just upgraded reader and now have lost 'Print as PDF' as a printer option on my selectable drop down printer list.
Am running a copy of Acrobat X Pro and all was well before reader upgrade completed this am.

But did you repair Acrobat? The Adobe PDF printer is a function of Acrobat, not Adobe Reader. Uninstalling/reinstalling Acrobat does essentially the same thing as a repair, but takes a bit longer.

Lost ability to print to .pdf in Illustrator 6

When we had to reinstall OS 10.4.11 Tiger, we lost the ability to print to .pdf in our old Illustrator 6.
Tried to add Adobe .pdf 7.0 to printer list. We have Acrobat 7 Standard. Seemed to allow the add but printer cue keeps jumping to "jobs stopped" on its own when try to create file.

Why have I lost the ability to print pdf files?

All of a sudden I can't print pdf files. The print screen shows a blank file and it prints blank, of course.

This doesn't sound like it is a FornsCentral issue unless you have this problem only with PDF generated from FormsCentral.
Let me know if that is the case. Otherwise you should ask your question on the Acrobat or Reader forum

Lost ability to open pdf files in Safari and Flash Player upgrade is not recognized.

Since two days ago, when I responded to a Zynga game instruction on Face Book to upgrade to the newest version of Flash Player, I lost the ability to open the game but more importantly I can't open pdf files any more either. All pdf files in Safari open as jibberish BUT they still work correctly in Firefox and Preview. Please help.

Are plug-ins enabled?

Lost Ability to Choose PDF presets in all CS5 Suite

I am no longer able choose a pdf preset when saving a pdf from any application in the creative suite (Print, Screen, etc.) I can choose "Program Default" and custom. I don't recall if I've even tried to save at any of these sizes since installing CS5, so maybe they are just gone?
I also don't recall what updates may have happened to start this problem. I seem to remember doing a Mac system update that had an acrobat/reader update, but I'm not 100%.
Has anyone else encountered this? Fixes?

10.3.9 lost ability to print, save files

I was using Illustrator CS2 the other day, then tried to print the file, but got a message "Can't print the illustration." Restarted Illustrator then got a message the essentially said "There is a serious problem, please reinstall the application." Tried to reinstall, but immediately there is a message saying "Can't install the software. A file is missing." The installer runs but at the end of the process it says the install failed, please try again.
I'd be posting this on the Adobe forums, but I later tried to save a file used daily from NeoOffice 2.2 and it gives a "Write Error, can't save the file" message. I can't save anything, even "Save As", anywhere, even on external drives.
Next I tried to print a file and can no longer print to any of three printers, or Acrobat to make a PDF. Message is "Error while printing." This is true with all apps I've tried, including email.
I don't have a very recent backup of the operating system to restore from, but I may try one from about a year ago. Or, is it better to use Restore Disks for 10.3 and do all the upgrades?
Any ideas what might have happened?

You may have some directory corruption. Have you done any maintenance? Repaired permissions? Booted from your system disc & run Disk Utility First Aid?

Lost ability to download PDF documents with upgrade to 4.0

Before upgrading to 4.0 could go to a website and click on a document, then pick a specific page to download to Adobe Reader 8 and get a clean PDF document. After upgrading could go to the same site, download a document and the site would show that it was transmitted to me but I would only get a blank page. Have downloaded the (what I believe to be) correct add-on to 4.0 for PDF reception.

There is a Mac Version of Adobe Acrobat which does this. There was a hiatus when there was some incompatibility between the MacOS, QuickTime and Adobe Acrobat of the time, but as far as I know, everything works fine today.
You may have problems starting with a Pages document though. I think InDesign is the best starting point.

Lost ability to open PDF inside Explorer 11

I am running windows 7 Pro and Acrobat 10.1.12. I installed an alternate PDF software program called SodaPDF and then immediately uninstalled it since I quickly realized it would not work in my situation. But after removing it from my computer I could no longer open up any PDFs inside Explorer 11. I made a restore point but if failed to Restore for some reason. Now when I try to open a PDF inside explorer I get a new instance of explorer with an empty screen but for a tiny crossed out circle in the upper left corner. In toolbars and extensions in Manage Add-ons I see Adobe Reader is enabled and three other Adobe Create toolbars also enabled. Is there anything I might try before I deactivate and reinstall the software?

Cannot print pdf files with 9.3.1, cannot remove patch

does anyone know how to fix msi problems ? updater says 9.3.1 is more functional than 9.4 what does that mean? does that mean I need to remove 9.3.1 in order to install 9.4 ? All i want out of this is the ability to control what stays and want goes onto my hard drive and the ability to print PDF files like the product claims. I swear as my life advances I will not buy a product from a company that cannot support me with there standard issues of products . offering a free product that malfunctions is not my idea of building a trusting relationship. What's more disturbing is that I talked with Ganesh this morning on adobe chat and know i cannot even register with that email. programs and click remove). I did my backup and downloaded windows installer cleanup from http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html After download when I ran the program to install it, the window that popped up was labled "Microsoft Office Update". When that disappeared I found Windows Installer Cleanup located in the All programs list in start. I clicked it and a window popped up about the size of task manager. I scrolled down and highlighted Adobe 9.3.1 and clicked remove and it removed it and the 9.3.1 unremovable update from the conrol panel. Then I went to Adobe.com , downloads and downloaded Adobe 9.4, installed it, and tested it by printing a PDF file. Before I was scared to mess up my netbook and didn't want to deal with the hassle, but we all have our limits until we start to take these kind of risks into the unknown. sometimes, even though it's a burden to register to umpteen forums, it's that extra hassle that gets you over the edge. Please share this info. ohh yeah, NONE of this was done in safe mode.

Ability to print to a pdf lost when going from Acrobat 9 to 11

I upgraded from Acrobat 9 standard to 11 standard and have lost the ability to print to a pdf. Where do i go to add a pdf printer? The PDF printer icon in the "printers and faxes area" has been removed.

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!

After I installed 10.6.8, my HP Officejet lost the ability to print 2-sided. I installed the latest HP drivers for Snow Leopard, but the 2-sided option is turned off and greyed out.

Adobe Reader plug-in and Acrobat plug-in are not compatible with the Safari 5.1 browser, which will ship with Mac OS X 10.7 and for 10.6 in July 2011. Adobe Reader and Acrobat will continue to work as standalone applications on Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.6, and will render PDF documents outside of the browser. In addition, Safari 5.1 renders PDF documents natively. However, the Adobe Reader and Acrobat plug-ins will not function as expected in LiveCycle and Acrobat workflows that require either plug-in to render PDF documents in Safari 5.1.
Recommendation to Customers/Users:
For Acrobat customers who utilize functionality like forms, digital signatures, portfolios, guides, 3D, extended PDFs and rights management, and who require the Acrobat plug-in to render PDF documents in the Safari browser, Adobe recommends that you continue to use Safari 5.0.x and Mac OS X 10.6. Lost the ability to print:

Hi all;
I just installed ios5 on my wifes ipad2, and suddenly lost the ability to print to our Epson printer-among other things. B4 the "upgrade" all was fine, and now all I can find is "no airprint printer". I've never had one that was an "airprint" printer.
Any ideas?

This is a little tough because there are two possible issues. iOS 5 wouldn't cause a failure for an AirPrint printer but as mentioned it does cause a problem for some AirPrint software running on Macs and PCs.
So one guess is that the update just causes some intermittent problem. Power cycling your printer, iPad and router would likely clear that problem.
Another guess is that you never had AirPrint support in the printer and that one of the Macs was sharing the printer instead. iOS killed that sharing solution and so you now have a problem. Some of the Epson printers shipped without AirPrint and need a firmware update. There's information here:
