Lost ability to reach Web-based utility for WRT610N

Until recently (not sure exactly when), on my Windows XP system I used to be able to reach the Advanced Setup page for my WRT610N gateway router by pointing a browser to 192.168.1.1. No more: both Firefox and IE say "Waiting..." until they time out. Everything else seems to work fine; I can access the Internet and do whatever else I use the router for, no problem, I just can't reach that setup page. I updated the Linksys LELA utility the other day, but I don't think that would block the IP address from the browser. The lights on the front panel are OK, and Ping looks good:
>ping 192.168.1.1
Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
  ...and so forth...
Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms
I don't have a second computer, and factory reset is a last-ditch plan. Would like to diagnose the problem if possible; firmware, maybe? I did a firmware ugrade last November, but I'm sure I accessed the web setup since then.
This might be useful info; the router manual says that instead of entering the IP number, you can type in http://wrt160n.com to reach the setup page, but instead that address (and wrt610n.com) take me to external Web addresses, while 192.168.1.1 just hangs. I wonder what is the mechanism to trap the numerical and the alpha addresses and direct requests to the router advanced setup? That seems to be where the fault lies, I'm guessing.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Are you trying to access the web utility from a wired and not a wireless computer?  Wired is the best way to access, and sometimes is the only way by default.
You didn't mention whether you performed a soft reset of the router or not.  That normally fixes the problem for me.
It might be worth it to borrow a laptop and wire it to the router to further narrow down the problem.

  • Trouble using the Web-based utility

    I have a WRT54G wireless router, V8, firmware 8.0.0. It is Ethernet-connected to a Windows Vista machine running SP1.
I am having trouble using the Web-based utility. I can access it but cannot make any changes.  For instance, if I change the settings on the Setup page and click "save", I get a "This webpage is not available"
I tried updating the firmware and got the same message. Disabling my personal firewall has no effect. Resetting the router from the button on its rear panel has no effect. I tried using with both Windows IE and Google Chrome browsers and got the same result.
I have been using this router without problem for months using a a Windows XP machine. This problem may be associated with my changing it to the current Windows Vista machine. I no longer have the Windows XP machine.
Please help me. Thank you and Happy New Year!

I spent a full day unsuccessfully trying to make it work, including numerous Linksys utilities downloaded from the site. I could not conjure any support on Linksys chat, and the live body on the Linksys tech support line wanted to charge me $29 for his help.
I finally succeeded by purchasing and installing a Netgear wireless router ($44, Staples) that came up flawlessly the first time. The Linksys device is in my trash.

are you talking about the options in the "internet connection type" on the router's web interface ??
if yes, then ensure that the firewall on the computer is disabled.

  • 310N - web based utility password

Trying to use web based utility.  Instructions are to use password admin and leave user name blank.  Does not allow me to enter.  Advice??

When you configured your router, using the setup disk at that moment have you changed the router password, if yes then you need to use that password while loggin to the router setup page using web base utility.
If you dont remember your router password, then i think you need to reset your router. Press and hold the reset switch on the back of your router for 5 seconds (Dont hold the reset switch more then 5sec, other wise it will reset your router to factory defaults), and release the reset switch, now try to login to the router setup page using the web base utility.

  • Web-based utility bringing up blank browser page

We are using the WRT54G router for a combination wired and wireless home network. All is working fine except when trying to access the web-based utility from the wired computer, I get a blank browser page after entering my username and password. The utility itself does not display. I have accessed it previously and know I am using the correct IP address. This seems to happen quite often. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas? Thank you.

You said you entered the "user name and password".  I think on your router, the user name should be blank.
To view the router's web pages:
Use Internet Explorer, it usually works.
    JavaScript must be enabled.
Use a computer that is wired to the router.
In the non-working computer, temporarily turn off your software firewall.
If you are using Zone Alarm, right click on the ZA icon in the system tray (lower right corner of screen) and then click "Shutdown ZoneAlarm", and see if this fixes your problem. If this does not work, try the following with Zone Alarm: Open the ZAISS control center, go to Privacy, then temporarily turn off Ad Blocking and Cookie Control, and see if that fixes your problem.
If you are using Noton Internet Security with the Add-on Pack, be sure to turn off the Pop-up Blocker. Some users have reported that they needed to uninstall the entire Norton Add-on Pack.
If you cannot get anything at 192.168.1.1 then perhaps this is not your router's address. Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key. Look at the "Default Gateway". Is it 192.168.1.1 ? Point your browser to the "Default Gateway", then login to your router.
If the above fails, disconnect your modem from the router, and try again. If this corrects your problem, then most likely you have a "modem-router" rather than an ordinary modem. Check to see if your "modem-router" is using the same 192.168.1.x address space as your Linksys router. If it is, then report back with this problem, and also state the make and model of your modem-router.
If all of the above fails, power down your entire system, unplug it from the wall, wait one minute, then power up and try again.

These are JavaScript errors and no Java errors. Java has nothing to do with them. Updating Java won't make any difference.
Do you run any software firewall on the computer? As the problems occurs on IE and Firefox it could well be that your firewall damages the JavaScript in the web pages. Firewalls like to do that to protect your "privacy".

  • My comapny has a web based portal for assigning work. Last week I lost the ability to connect to it through a tethered laptop using my Galaxy S5. It worked for the last several years using my drois phones. I can acess it from my home PC, through networked

I can no longer access my company's web based portal through a tethered laptop. All other web pages work. Has anyone experienced anything like this? It's a verizon problem for sure since I can get to it from every other method...

It could very well be Verizon where you're able to access from your home PC. But have you tried looking into the Laptops operating system Device Manager to see if that gives any indication of anything, like perhaps possible network driver update?

  • Is there a way to access the web-based setup for my router if I cannot access the internet?

Okay, I need to change the ip address settings on my router. I have a WRT54G Wireless router. I cannot access the internet on my computer connected to the router, and do not know how to change the router settings without accessing the web-based setup page. So, back to my question. Is there a way to access this page if I cannot connect to the internet?

On the back of the router is a small reset switch. Using a paper clip or other small item, press the switch in and hold it for a few seconds. This will reset the router to the default IP address of 192.168.1.1. Enter that address in your web browser, and be sure your computer is attached to the router by an Ethernet cable. Don't attempt to do this using the wireless connection.
Once you have reached the web configuration utility you can change the DHCP settings.
To give your PC a static IP address you will need to open your network connections panel and, assuming your using Windows XP, make the changes from dynamic IP to static there.

  • Web-based utility will not load on new wet54g ethernet bridge

I just got a WET54g ethernet bridge to connect my bluray player to my existing network (wrt54gs router).  I cannot get the setup cd to recognize the bridge connected to the laptop or the router.  I thought that it would be no problem, just use web-based set-up.  When attempting to access 192.168.1.226 I have to enter the password three times and then a blank page is loaded.  Chat support ended up getting disconnected, so no luck there.  Supposedly some of the steps chat wallked me through updated the firmware through ftp download, but I feel like nothing was done since you can't access the set-up page. Any suggestions are welcome.  I'm running vista if that helps.

Start it from Scratch...Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your WET54G(ethernet bridge), wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your WET54G(ethernet bridge)...Follow the link here to re-configure the WET54G(ethernet bridge)...Also under the configuration type select Static IP Address : For IP Address enter : 192.168.1.226, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1 and save the settings...
After doing these you can unplug the Ethernet Bridge from the router and power cycle your router and the ethernet bridge both...Connect your ethernet bridge to your bluray player and test for active connection...

    Deepak,
There is no free lunch anywhere in this world, and the same is true for the training as well of Oracle modules. If you can't get time out to attend an Instructor based training, you have two choices,
    1) Self Study CD Roms Oracle offers the trainining in a self paced learning format with CD Roms which have all whatis needed to make one start and grow with the learning of a specific module. You can check which module you need and can order the cd rom for that. Learn more about this from here,
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=35
    2) Live Virtual Class This is the newest standard that Oracle has introduced in the training formats. As the name suggests, this is a class which is surely taught by an instructor only but this doens't need you to come and attend a course at a specific location , for example at Oracle's education office. You can attend the prorgam while being at your home/office as well. It offers rich video/audio expereince which doesn't make you feel that you are just learning sitting in front of a computer. Learn more about it from here,
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=233
That said, both the options mentioned above are NOT free and there is NO free event happening anywhere which goes from the start to finish of a module. There are some small web events but they can't be called a training class as there are just some topics discussed in them. So once again, don't look for free lunch, its not there anywhere.
