Lost ability to view Effects in Action Panel

Adobe illustrator CS5 on Mac OS X 10.7.4.
I used to be able to do something like effect->3d-> revolve, then go to the actions panel and bring up the 3D revolve, click on it and edit it again. Now, when I open the actions panel the simple 3d revolve is replace with a long long list of actions of course I can't bring up the 3d revolve effect and edit it.
I have removed all of the Illustrator prefs in my library file; but, it still does it.
How can I get this behavior back?

Try the Appearance panel. Select the object with the 3D effect and it should show up there.

Lost ability to view the status of PDF conversion

Greetings,
I've been using CS5 for about a week after upgrading from CS4 on Windows 7. Everything was running fine until yesterday afternoon, when I suddenly lost the ability to view the status of the conversion of InDesign files to PDFs.
Normally, when converting an InDesign file to a PDF using one of InDesign's PDF presets (Smallest File Size, High Quality Print, etc.) you see a status bar showing the status of the conversion within InDesign. Now when I convert an InDesign file to PDF, the PDF instantly appears in the save location without any status bars showing up in InDesign. The PDF is unopenable and the InDesign file is uncloseable until the conversion completes. In the end, there is no issue converting my files to PDF; however, it's a little annoying to convert a file and have to take a guess at when I can open it (some of my files can take quite some time to convert).
At first, I thought it was a problem with my PC or installation. My supervisor has another license installed on his laptop, so we gave it a try on his. Same problem. I just think it's odd that the issue would appear out of nowhere on both installations.
Any ideas of what might be going on?

The Background Tasks pane does show what's going on (to a certain extent), but what I'm taking about should be showing by default. I jumped on our old Macbook and created a test file and converted it to PDF in our Mac version of CS4. See the status bar that shows in the image below. This is what I'm taking about. It's a window titled "Generating PDF." It's been in every version of InDesign I've had since the first CS.
Shouldn't this be displaying?

10.1 Update - Lost ability to view music videos on Mac

Since upgrading to 10.1 I have lost the ability to view videos i iTunes on my Mac - the Now Playing window just shows a static image. If I change the preferences to view the videos in another window or full screen, iTunes still just shows a static mage in the Now Playing window.
I know the videos are still there - I can download new ones to itunes, sync and then play them in my iPhone and iPad - and the video icon still appears next to those songs in iTunes, but will not play in iTunes.
My podcasts and movies are still playing fine in ITunes - it's just the music videos that appear in my Music Library which no longer work.

even though I think my Senior Analyst is trying his best I did a work around that works well... I bought a little program that converts them to .mov files which play just fine in iTunes... Still converting though.. As I said I have have a bunch. The poster above is incorrect in saying or hinting that the ones that dont play must of come from a source such as limewire etc... all of mine came straight from iTunes and I have tried 3 different configurations with Apple to get them to work. I am not complaining as I could never imagine anyone calling from Dell as this guy has from Texas on some days at least 3-4 times.. I figure I will get other uses besides just this with this program but for now it solves this issue until a fix is made... here is a link

Lost ability to view edited images alongside original in library

Not sure what I have done but I am using lightroom 1.4. Previously, any pictures I edited would show as an edited file in the library now all that happens is the original image shows as the edited image. Does that make sense?

You mean LR 4.1, not 1.4?
Maybe your edits are now stacked with their originals?
In Library module, use menu Photo - Stacking - Expand all stacks.
Sometimes I dod not find my edits right along the originals, because I had set the sort order to "edit time" rather than "capture time", so I found them as last thumbnails. This explanation could only apply to you if you had put the sequence from z-to-a as well, because otherwise you would only see the originals, not the editied ones.

How can I view both the layers panel & effects panel in PSE 11?

I have PSE11 and purchased Paint the Moon effects. How can I view both the Layers panel and the Effects panel at the same time? Was this an option in older versions of PSE that are used in the Paint the Moon tutorials?

At the very bottom right of the editor window click the little arrow to the right of the More button and choose Custom Workspace. Then your panels will behave the way they did in earlier versions--you can drag them out of the bin, see more than one, remove panels from The Clump, etc.

Adobe Reader plug-in and Acrobat plug-in are not compatible with the Safari 5.1 browser, which will ship with Mac OS X 10.7 and for 10.6 in July 2011. Adobe Reader and Acrobat will continue to work as standalone applications on Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.6, and will render PDF documents outside of the browser. In addition, Safari 5.1 renders PDF documents natively. However, the Adobe Reader and Acrobat plug-ins will not function as expected in LiveCycle and Acrobat workflows that require either plug-in to render PDF documents in Safari 5.1.
Recommendation to Customers/Users:
For Acrobat customers who utilize functionality like forms, digital signatures, portfolios, guides, 3D, extended PDFs and rights management, and who require the Acrobat plug-in to render PDF documents in the Safari browser, Adobe recommends that you continue to use Safari 5.0.x and Mac OS X 10.6. We will provide updates as we continue to investigate this issue.

Lost ability to print as PDF following reader upgrade

Just upgraded reader and now have lost 'Print as PDF' as a printer option on my selectable drop down printer list.
Am running a copy of Acrobat X Pro and all was well before reader upgrade completed this am.
Can anyone advise how I recover ability to print as PDF in my print options?

But did you repair Acrobat? The Adobe PDF printer is a function of Acrobat, not Adobe Reader. Uninstalling/reinstalling Acrobat does essentially the same thing as a repair, but takes a bit longer.

TK Actions Panel Not Showing

I purchased the TK Actions/Video set from GoodLight.us. It comes with a set of Actions : "TKActions" which have been installed as directed into the CS5 Actions folder. They appear when Actions is opened and appear to function correctly. However, the Panel from the same set will not show in "Extentions"on the CS 5 page and it is supposed to as listed in the directions. It was copied/pasted in Plug-ins/Panel in Cs 5's program files.
I have updated the flash player since there was mention of Flash in some applications when I searched for help.
Any ideas?

     This update was mandated by Adobe's forthcoming changes to Photoshop CC. The next revision to PS CC (Photoshop 15), due out in a few weeks, will remove support for Flash-based panels. The current TK-ACTIONS and TK_ACTIONS panel use Flash to do their thing and will no longer work in the soon-to-be-released PS CC update. HTML5 is the new standard for extension panels and is already incorporated into the current version of PS CC. (Flash will continue to be the standard for Photoshop CS5 and CS6.) Since I use PS CC and rely on the panel in my own developing workflow, I re-coded the panel using the new HTML5 standard. This also gave me the opportunity to add some new features to the panel.
     [NOTE: The revised panel has been tested in the current version of Photoshop CC (Photoshop 14) and a pre-release version of the next version of Photoshop CC (Photoshop 15) and works in both.      The new panel is called "TKActions" and the link at the top of this email will tell you about it.      There are actually two versions of the panel in the download, one that works in Photoshop CC (HTML5 version) and one that works in Photoshop CS5/CS6 (Flash version). So even if you haven't converted to Photoshop CC, the Flash version still provides access to the improved functions for Photoshop CS5/CS6. Both versions are included in the download.

Ability to view multiple files in ONE window

I can see here that this is not a new topic really but the thing with Acrobat 9 is so frustrating that it is just unbelievable.
This is another pearl:
Acrobat 9 "lost" its predecessors ability to view multiple files in ONE window. After opening four only documents I cannot see anything on the screen because the toolbars on each individual window cover all necessary view and nothing is left for the actual document. And sometimes I need to open 20 documents!
This is ABSOLUTE DISASTER!!!
I found some explanations from Adobe on the Web that are more than a year old.
I was sure that by now this unfortunate mishandling of that feature (apparently it was dropped out from A9 deliberately - WHO'S IDEA WAS THAT?) would be somehow restorable.
Would anyone happen to know if this feature can get restored to how it was working in A7 or 8 (without the need to uninstall A9 and install A8)?

No, it can't be restored, unless Adobe decides to change the way Acrobat works (which is possible, but not likely).
By the way, it was Microsoft's idea... Adobe were just following their example on this.

What are the little red squares on the lower left hand corner of a movieclip in the actions panel?

What do the little red squares on the lower left hand corner of the movieclips in the actions panel mean? [Fig. 1]
I'm working off this template in Flash CS3, that's using ActionScript 2.0 actually.
I don't know whether or not that means anything in regards to the above inquire?

OK, I think I might have figured this out.
First. You guys keep insisting it's the Movie Explorer. It is not. It is the Actions Panel. You can see for yourself. Option+F9 opens the Actions Panel. Option+F3 opens the 'Explorer Window'. They are similar in appearance but they're not the same thing. They're just not.
Second. I believe that the red dots on the movieclips, and also buttons, indicates when there is actionscript directly on the movieclip and/or button, as oppose to actionscript written on a frame within a movie clip and/or button.
You really have to pay special attention to the top of the Actions Panel right next to where it says 'Actions' there's a dash '–' and then it says either 'Frame', 'Movie Clip', or 'Button'. This indicates exactly where you're about to write script to, or where you're reading the script from, so it's important to pay attention to this.
That left side pane, in the Actions Panel, is divided by 'Scene' and by 'Symbol Definition(s)' and it's confusing because it's possible to have a symbol appear more than once depening on where the actionscript is located (i.e. on a frame or on the movie clip or button itself).
For example if you have script on a FRAME within movie clip A, it'll appear in the SYMBOL DEFINITION(S) pane, without a red box, but if you were to write script on movie clip A itself, it would still not have the red box on it in the SYMBOL DEFINITION(S) pane, BUT it would appear again as movie clip A in the SCENE pane, and this time it would appear with the red box next to it, casue it now has actionscript directly on the movie clip itself. Wow, how confusing is that ha.
Keep in mind that if you made a movie clip B, within movie clip A, and if you placed actionscripts directly on movie clip B, NOT on a frame, then movie clip B would get a red box and appear UNDER movie clip A, within the SYMBOL DEFINITION(S) pane, NOT the SCENE pane. Ha.
If you wrote script on a FRAME within movie clip B it would appear in the SYMBOL DEFINITION(S) again, yes a second time, twice, but WITHOUT a red box. Confused yet? ha.
I don't know why Flash decided to do it this way. But it starts to make sense when you're actually viewing it, when it's in front of you. I think this is just for actionscript 2.0 (and for actionscript 1.0 presumably), but I don't think this is the case for ActionScript 3.0, because in as3 it's all instance name based, and targeting based, so there's no such thing as writing script directly onto a symbol of any kind, button, movie clip or otherwise.
But yeah, that's it in a nutshell.

How to view an applications actions in command line?

I have a series of highly repetitive tasks that require a tremendous number of button / menu clicks that I've been trying to automate. I have successfully automated the process with Automator using bash mouse clicks x,y coordinates. However, because this is method requires pixel coordinates it only works on one of my machines because the others do not have the same display size. As such this solution is lacking.
What i'm looking for (and struggling to find) is means of viewing any running application's action as an equivalent text command. This is a built in functionality in most 3D modeling programs like Maya, Blender, etc. (which is where I first started using this method of automating tedious processes). Having the ability to view any button click or menu selection as a text based command, makes sorting out the proper syntax to create a proper script infinity easier.
As an example, I want to be shown something like:
tell application "Finder" to launch "Safari"     When clicking on the safari dock icon
tell application "Safari" to open location "http://www.google.com/"     When typing in the URL and pressing enter
tell application "System Events" to keystroke "apple support"    When typing the text string into google's search bar
Though the above example is applescript, I'll take any language if it gets me heading int he right direction. :-)
Side note though Automator's 'watch me' do is great for simple tasks, I found it to be unreliable given the number of steps I have to deal with.

You might check with your apps' developers to see if they support AppleScript, Automator, or other scripting languages that might be used for this. Some programs have built-in macro and scripting options that can be set up in a built-in editor or run in a built-in command-line environment of sorts, while others supply libraries for external scripting with AppleScript and others.
As for live tracing of a program's commands, most that you use will be coded in a low level language like C, C++, Java, or Objective-C, which are compiled and run in binary machine code as opposed to an interpreted language (one that does not need compiling to run), as is the case with most scripting languages (shell scripts, AppleScript, Matlab, etc.).
For the most part, the only options you have for "tracing" a program's functions are to monitor output that it might log to the console. You can see this by opening the console, but the output here is diagnostic in nature and is programmatically limited to what the programmers have intended be output (ie, things like warnings and errors, as opposed to every action the program is taking). You can also use the Terminal to directly launch a program's executable so it is hosted in the Terminal shell. This will give you direct access to all of the program's output, as opposed to that only intended for logging in the Console, but it is still not the same as a full output of the commands and routines the program is performing.
Some of Apple's developer tools can allow you to better monitor a program's functions, but these are intended for developers, and have some requirements, and will not allow you to use any results for productivity automation.

I was making some progress and feeling good after much frustration and then suddenly I got lost in this deep dark black hole in outerspace.
1. I have managed to totally mess up all these boxes, frames, panels and cannot figure out how to get back to any resemblance of order. Totally lost in space. How to get back to earth?
2. And, my video went from running smoothly, to a jerky motion after making various adjustments.
3. And, somewhere, in the effects, color adjustments, I inserted a 1 second delay in the part that says something about smooth an image or something and I can't find where I was and I want to reset that back to zero. I wonder if that is causing this jerky delay? But, I also noticed it before.
4. This is the most complicated program I've evern used. I wish they made a beginner's area where I could quickly get into it and make a quick video without getting so lost and frustrated in this massive program.
Can anyone relate to beginner's frustration?

Sorry, my windows and everything are so messed up. i don't know where to find the FX window.
On 2 clips,
First clip has FX, Opacity:Opacity
Audio clip with this has FX, Volume Level.
2nd clip has on video portion, Brightness and Contrast: Contrast.
On audio portion has Panner: Balance: Level.
The clip is running rough, jerky.
The fade in and fade out is rough, jerky.

Actions panel won't open

I'm using Flash CS3. Suddenly, my actions panel won't open,
only the heading of the panel shows. My other panels open up just
fine. When I click on the icon to see the whole actions panel, it
just flashes for a split second.

DOWNGRADE SOLUTION - Adobe Edge Animate 4.1 to 4.0.1
I managed to copy the Application folder from one of the other Desktops that still had the older version.
Initially there was a pathing issue to the newer version (Probably still in regedit) however I just adjusted the Application Folder name and since the path resolves it's all working now on 4.0.1 again.
Adobe has completely changed the symbol Obj in 4.1 so if you are referencing undocumented attributes to symbols in your legacy applications you're in for an interesting day or two upgrading all your scripts. PLAN FOR THIS IN YOUR QUOTE TO A CLIENT if you intend to upgrade any Legacy applications
Only lost 6 hours of development time.

Why is the actions panel not appearing?

I am unable to view the Actions Panel window in a document I've already done a lot of work in. It worked previously - I created an Actions Layer and was able to add action script, however, when I try to open it back up to edit the action script I wrote, neither the F9 shortcut nor the Windows>Actions pulls up the Actions Panel. In fact, when I try either method, nothing happens.

try changing the workspace to default (or anything different from your current).
