Lost access to my files on my iMac even though - Apple TV seems to recognise that sharing is on.:

OK I bought an Apple TV when the new version came out recently. I've had no real issues connecting or sharing except from the annoying odd time when sharing dropped and I had to restart iTunes or occasionally - reboot my iMac.
However in the last 7 days I seem to have lost all contact with my iTunes library. When I turn on Apple TV/Computers I get the message - make sure Sharing is turned on for ....... I turn on iTunes and this message disappears but there's no access to the files. - Nada! My Logitech box has also been unable to access files.
My iMac seems to be fine but clearly there's something else wrong. I've tried:
Turning Airport WiFi - off and on.
Checked my firewall settings
Verfied and repaired permissions.
When I first got my iMac aabout a year ago (transferred everything from my old powermac), I kept getting the annoying little message in the middle of my screen saying I needed to turn off my computer. I got in touch with Apple and I was told that the Netbarrier software I had for my old mac was not compatible and to remove it. I did and things have been rosier since
But while trying to sort this problem out I came accross this little Castle symbol in the top right hand corner of the bar. It relates to the Netbarrier software I thought I'd got rid of. It also seems to be dead. I used cleaner to search for rogue Netbarrier apps or prefs and it didn't find any. And then a day or so after I got a Netbarrier warning flash up.
I suspect something has happened with security settings somewhere but I can't find anything.
Hope someone who was good enough to read this novel will be able to help me.

If you're running iOS 6, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, then sign back in with the new ID. This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your device, but not from iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account, your iCloud data will reappear on your device when you sign back in.
To avoid losing photo stream photos, save them to your camera roll (if not already there) before deleting the account. To do this, open your my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.

If the old ID is yours, and if your current ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

HHi Barbara, thanks for replying to my post.
No there's nothing wrong with the Jpegs, but I want to srart uploading images for sale in Alamy, but they say they must be a minimum of 17mb un compressed. Does that mean that at 6mb compressed from 90mb they'd be acceptable?

I agree with Ogelthorpe. Bluetooth is not an appropriate way to transfer files between two computers.
Additionally to the Firewire method, you can set up File Sharing (System Preferences - Sharing) on the computer you're transferring TO, then you'll see it in the MBP's Finder sidebar if you're on the same wireless or wired network. If you're transferring a lot of files, connect with network cables to your router unless your wireless network is very fast.

From a time machine backup? No. If you mean just a regular file stored on there? Not directly. There are a couple of apps out there where you can indirectly get to a file but it's a pain. If you have need of accessing a file both from the mac and the iPad then I suggest DropBox. You get 2GB free and it's a good way to share information between machines and devices.

Got new iMac. All my files are on Firewire 800 external hard drives. iMac won't recognize Firewire drives even with Apple cable adaptor so cannot access old files.

I suspect a power issue, are these drives Bus powered or do they have AC power?

Cannot see files in music folder even though they play in itunes

I have my entire music folder on a NAS drive (lacie 500 gb ethernet disk mini). It has been working pretty well for a few months but now I can't see most of my music files, even though they show up in iTunes, and when I do "get info" it shows the location as the NAS drive (i.e., NAS drive:music:U2:achtung baby:03 One.mp3) and it will play the song(s). However, when I go to the NAS drive and click on the music folder, I can't actually see a U2 folder. And the music folder itself only shows about 20% of my library (even though 100% of the library shows up in iTunes and does play and all my random "get info" tests show that all of the music is on my NAS drive).
It's wonderful that the music isn't actually lost, but why are most of the music files hidden and how can I see them again? I have no music files on my macbook - everything is stored off the NAS drive. I'm about to get a backup drive, but I'm concerned that it won't back up these apparently "hidden" music files. I did search for the files (i.e., any file containing "U2" on my NAS drive and it came back as 0 files found, which is really odd. I mean, if that were true, why is iTunes pointing to the NAS drive as the source of the music files?
One other clue - I tried to consolidate my music library, which is relatively small (10.29 gb) -- and after about 5 minutes, it stopped and gave me an error message.

I honestly don't recall. I do however recall my sense of being overwhelmed as I realized belatedly what a huge project I'd undertaken in doing a clean install. I forgot how many weeks had gone into sorting out setup and drivers and apps and shortcuts and macros and on and on and on. So I started looking for faster, easier ways to get things done. So it's quite likely I just dragged the Documents folder on over.
Assuming that's the case, what's the best correction at this point?

I can no longer receive my emails from the icloud to my mac even though it has been doing it fine since I moved to the icloud a number of weeks now. I only get my mail if I log into icloud or I get it on my phone, it is not synching to my iMac. Can someone assist please.

I tried something similar by adding a new mail account doing the apple id etc but it worked in that it would look for mail but no mail would come even though mail still goes to my phone I was loath to delete my original account just in case the new one did not work as well. So I guess I am a little stuck now.. I hope you can help me to sort it out.
