Lost admin username

I am on my fathers computer and he cannot install any new update because he dont know he username.
I know the password but it seams that the username is wrong.
I can see in preference system user account; Mario  Masse
and it looks like theres 2 "space bar" entered but it wont work.
I'm at a point where I would like to restore completly the system but we only find the first install disk.
I found a set of install disk from my macbook but cant find a way to reboot the systeme on those disk...
So how can I find the right username for admin. Here a photo of how it looks.
Thanks for the help!

If you click on System Preferences > Accounts or it may say Users you will get a list of users and the admin user identified.  Just copy and paste that name.
By the way, your screen shot isn't coming through for some reason.

  • Lost admin username and password

I recently was given this IMAC for free, by the school I work for. Unfortunatly, the person who was at the time the main administrator did not leave his username and password. (He recently quit and moved out of state). Thus I cannot open files, add software, ect. Can I start over from the begining? Any help would be gracefully accepted.

if you have the installation disks handy, you can put the first disk in, restart the machine, and hold down the C key.
this will boot from the DVD/CD drive.
once the install wizard has started, go to the utilities menu, and select password change.
this will allow you to change the password for the admin user.
you could also reinstall the os entirely by going through the installation wizard (this assumes you do not want to keep any information on the machine)

  • I have lost my username and password and can't find my way to the "firefox window" to see if I can retrieve my sync key.

I have lost my username and password and sync key. I do not understand how to find the "firefox window" described in the "help" page for finding the sync key. I am trying to get my bookmarks downloaded on a new laptop.

    Hi Steve,
    Depends which OS
    version.
    If OSX try this instead...
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Change Password from the Installer menu up at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Change Password.*
If worse comes to worse try this...

  • Admin username and password not recognized for upgrade

I'm trying to upgrade a user account on my computer to Yosemite. This is that not the admin account.  My admin username and password are rejected.  It is also rejected when I try to do something such as change the power settings.  If I'm doing this within my admin account the same username and password work just fine.  I have no idea how to fix this.

One more follow up question. I logged back into my admin account to upgrade to Yosemite.  The software was already downloaded in the user account using the apple ID and PW associated with that account, which is different than the apple ID associated with the admin account.
Within my admin account, on the first page of the app store app it shows OSX Yosemite as 'downloaded' and nothing happens when I click that button.
The only other option is to click 'learn more' under the OSX Yosemite image. From that page it asks me to sign in to the App store to download Yosemite. The Apple ID box already contains the other Apple ID (not the one I want to use), and there is no option to change that.  All I can do is enter that password.
I'd like to complete this with my Apple ID but I don't know how to change it.

This sounds like you may possibly have been infected with MACDefender.
Malicious software dubbed "MACDefender" (also goes under the name of MacProtector, MacGaurd, MacSecurity or MacShield) takes aim at users of the Mac OS X operating system by automatically downloading a file through JavaScript. But users must also agree to install the software, leaving the potential threat limited.
The new MACDefender malware was first noted on April 30, 2011 by users of the Apple Support Communities, and was highlighted on May 2 by antivirus company Intego. If the right settings are enabled in Apple's Safari browser, MACDefender can be downloaded to a system after a user clicks a link while searching the Internet.
"When a user clicks a link after performing a search on a search engine such as Google, this takes them to a web site whose page contains JavaScript that automatically downloads a file," Intego said. "In this case, the file downloaded is a compressed ZIP archive, which, if a specific option in a web browser is checked (Open 'safe' files after downloading in Safari, for example), will open."
    More details here:
    http://www.reedcorner.net/news.php/?p=138#more-138
However, users must still agree to install the malware after it downloads. After the ZIP file is extracted, users are presented with the "MACDefender Setup Installer," at which point they must agree to continue and provide an administrator password.
Because of the fact that users must agree to install the software and provide a password, Intego categorized the threat with MACDefender as "low."
Users on Apple's support forums advise killing active processes from the application using the Mac OS X Activity Monitor. MACDefender can then be deleted from the Applications folder by dragging it into the trash. There is also a 'MacDefenderKiller' uninstaller available here:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/38520/macdefenderkiller
On May 24 Apple issued this Knowledge Base Article on how to avoid or remove the MacDefender malware (which has been updated several times):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4650
But that does not mean it is over. On May 25, MacGuard is launched:

Apple  released Security Update 2011-003 on May 31, 2011, which adds malware detection and removal for the "MAC Defender" scam and delivers a daily update mechanism for updating subsequent malware definitions. This is for Snow Leopard only.
The security update for Mac OS X 10.6.7 is available from Software Update or the company's Downloads page. Installing the update does not require a system reboot.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1387
(The malware is not to be confused with MacDefender, the maker of geocaching software including GCStatistic and DTmatrix. The company noted on its site it is not affiliated with the malware.)
Trojans and other malware spreads through search engines like Google via a method known as "SEO poisoning." The sites are designed to game search engine algorithms and show up when users search for certain topics.

If you select another group name other than admin, create a monitoring user that can monitor, but not administrate, the ICM/Web Dispatcher.
If you want a user to be able to log on only with the X.509 client certificate, you can enter an x as the password (with queries), which makes the following entry (in the example) in file:
    icmadm:x:admin:CN=muster,*
           5.      Choose s (save changes of set to file), to copy your changes from the local buffer to the authorization file.
           6.      Choose q, to quit the program.

  • Reset Admin UserName and Password?

Is there a way to reset you Admin username and password? Do I have to re-install?

Following information is from Installation Guide, Troubleshooting section. It seems to indicate that you have to re-install.
If you do not remember the administrative user name that was supplied during installation, try the user name admin. This is the default user name specified in the server configuration dialog during installation.
If you still cannot determine the user name, look in the following file:
    domain_config_dir/domain1/admin-server/config/admpw
This file contains the administrator's user name followed by the encrypted form of the administrative user's password.
If you do not remember the administrator's password, then you will need to uninstall and reinstall the application server.
If you do not remember the administrator's password, then you can delete the administrative domain using the delete-domain subcommand of asadmin and create a new domain with a new administrative password.

  • Lost Admin Account - Only Standard ones remain... Please Help!

Okay this one is a real kicker, About 10 months ago I helped a friend upgrade their iMac 1.6 G5 to Leopard. All went well and they installed all the updates etc.
A few month ago the Logic Board failed and they got a local Apple Engineers firm to replace the new logic board. They did this and the machine runs fine... however.
They now want help setting up a time machine drive, but... and here is comes... the accounts on the machine... all of them are Standard accounts. None of them are Administration accounts.
So the time machine setting are locked, I click the padlock to unlock and I get prompted for admin Username and Password... both fields are blank. SO I check in the Accounts settings to find that both Users on the machine are Standard and neither have Admin writes.
I can only presume that the company that replaced the logic board, created a new admin account, reset the other accounts to standard, did the work, then deleted the Admin account they created and forgot to reset the Standard accounts back to admin (I have spoken them and they deny all knowledge). before giving it back to my friend.
Is there anyway to find out what the Admin account details are...? Or maybe even root details... (in terminal) so I can at least unlock the User control panel and reset the user accounts back to admin.
Please help with this one... I didn't even know it was possible to run a MAc without an admin account?!

Then, try the steps in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1274 and http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1323191 If nothing there works, then your only solution is to make copies of the Users and Applications folders to another disk, wipe the current one, reinstall the OS, create a new admin user account, use the migration assistant to transfer the Users to the machine, change their status to admin, ensure that works, and delete the new account. Do the same with the Applications or reinstall them. Once you sort things out, make a bootable backup/clone on an ext HD so this never occurs again.

  • Lost admin control

Please can anyone help? I have lost admin control, computor thinks he's boss! no control over apps. Can't unlock

That is pretty ominous sounding, can you give a few more details, such as can you login, can you start and stop applications, can you control the cursor?  Have you tried a restart of the computer to see if that termiantes an errant application?  If that doesn't help, try restarting the computer using the system install disk that came with the computer while holding the C key so you boot from the DVD.  Does the machine bahave running on that version of the operating system?

  • LMS4.2 admin username cannot login

    Hi,
I have installed LMS4.2.2 on Windows 2008 server and am unable to login via the 'admin' username. I get "Invalid Username or Password. Please try again" error message. I can successfully login using Windows AD username and password.
I have reset the password for 'admin' username with the following:
    nmsroot\bin\perl.exe resetpasswd.pl admin
Server has been rebooted PRE and POST password reset. What else can/should I do?
    Thanks,
    Vineet

    Hi Vineet,
I was facing similar issue, I was installing the same on VM... This is what i did to resolve the same
I re-installed the LM4.2 this time i did not change the default sysadmin name gave a password then gave a different password for GUI admin which is prompted after sysadmin. Once the installation was complted used the username 'admin'(this is the default GUI username) and the password given for GUI admin for log-in.

  • As a user, Mountain Lion will not accept admin username

I was trying to install FireFox after download. When moving the firefox icon to the Applications folder a dialogue came up asking for an admin name & password.
It would NOT ACCEPT the admin name & password although I use the same name & password to get into the admin account - and THAT WORKS!!!?????!!!!
    What's going on?
    Mike.

I've been able to find my own answer to this one..........
First of all - when I log on to the administrator account I use the short admin name "Mike" and the correct password, and all is OK, I get into the admin account.
BUT: When logged into my user account and a pop-up window asks for an admin name and password (like when I'm trying to install new s/w) the short name is not accepted!
If I enter the long admin username and the correct password, IT ALL WORKS OK!!
This is different behaviour from pevious versions of OSX. WHAT IS GOING ON?????
    Mike.

  • Don't know admin username or password how reset

don't know admin username or password how reset?

First, make sure caps lock is not on.
You must back up all data before continuing, unless you've already done so. If you need to back up but can't log in, ask for instructions.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead the instructions on this page:
If you forget the password and FileVault is on
