Lost Administrative rights

My son was trying to remove password sign in from my computer. It only started having me do it because he put a Microsoft account on it to enable me to download apps. We did not like having to type a password every time he got on the computer. So son typed in netplwiz or something like that and did something. Now, I have lost the admin rights to my computer. I cannot upgrade or download any of my programs. Trusted installer has taken over my computer. It allows Microsoft and HP updates but not mine. I cannot log into safe mode. Msconfig doesn't work. The restore point also doesn't work for me or I would have simply gone back to the date before he did this change. It has been like this a few months now. Any suggestions would be nice. When I asked support for help, they told me they could fix it by entering my computer and doing some changes. It would cost me $100. I may have to do that if I cannot find the answer any other way.
Thanks
Barb

Hi, Barb:
See if the information at the link below is of help to you.
http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/enable-windows-built-in-administrator-account/
Hopefully you will be able to run the command as administrator even if you don't have administrative rights on your account.
If you can, then you should be able to give your account administrative rights again when you manage your account from the Computer Administrator account.
If you are successful, I would then disable the Computer Administrator account again, and I personally would not password protect the account.
But that is up to you.
I see that PC administrator account tool as a safety valve, and if you forgot the password you put on it, then you are flat out of luck the next time you may need it.

  • Accounts being created with administrative group rights

    Hello,
The server is a Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise fully patched used for Shared Hosting purposes.  It runs Hsphere control panel.  I am trying to identify how the following hack is happening.
    1) There are users being created with Administrative group rights.   Below is the EventViewer log for the user creation:
    User Account Created:
         New Account Name:    username
         New Domain:    PCNAME
         New Account ID:    PCNAME\username
         Caller User Name:    PCNAME$
         Caller Domain:    DOMAINNAME
         Caller Logon ID:    (0x0,0x3E7)
         Privileges        -
     Attributes:
         Sam Account Name:    username
         Display Name:    <value not set>
         User Principal Name:    -
         Home Directory:    <value not set>
         Home Drive:    <value not set>
         Script Path:    <value not set>
         Profile Path:    <value not set>
         User Workstations:    <value not set>
         Password Last Set:    <never>
         Account Expires:    <never>
         Primary Group ID:    513
         AllowedToDelegateTo:    -
         Old UAC Value:    0x2DAB2B0
         New UAC Value:    0x2DAB2B0
         User Account Control:    -
         User Parameters:    <value not set>
         Sid History:    -
Logon Hours:    <value changed, but not displayed>
There exists entries as well where the primary group ID is changed to the Administrative group, but I am omitting such.
    2) I tried to identify what Caller Logon ID:    (0x0,0x3E7) means.  I found out from here:
http://blog.joeware.net/2013/01/14/2667/ that I can use LogonSessions.exe to identify it.
Output from LogonSessions.exe is pasted below (snippet):

    3) I also learned from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/243330/en-us that   Sid:          S-1-5-18 means:
    SID: S-1-5-18
    Name: Local System
Description: A service account that is used by the operating system
That is all great info, but I am not sure I can put together what I have learned to attempt and get closer towards identifying how in the world users are being created and then being assigned administrative group rights.
I am a Linux person mostly, but I am comfortable following a properly explained thread regarding windows 2003 R2 Enterprise issues.
The server is fully patched and it is running Lumension security product.  What's more, Norman Malware tracker, tdskiller.exe (Kaspersky) and McAfee rootkitremover.exe have been run without any apparent Malware/Virus infection
Hope someone with advanced admin skills can advise.
    Thank you

    Hi,
You mentioned that, “I am trying to identify how the following hack is happening”, would you please tell us that why did you think the event represent a hacking behavior?
In a Shared Server Hosting environment, the underlying hosting control panel tool (Hsphere in this case) should be creating only virtual FTP users with a specific group.  So no users with Administrative group should be ever created.  If this happens,
it constitutes a breach of server security=positive hacking attempt.
    >how in the world users are being created and then being assigned administrative group rights.
In addition, would you please be more specific about this question? Did you find the event message on a domain joined machine?
I want to be able to understand in full how/what process is allowing users to be created with Admin rights.  In other words, I want to know what IP was used to issue the command, if ASP.net was used (abused in this case), or anything else related to
it so that we can patch this particular hole.
    Best Regards,
    Amy

I have a cable for my iPad2, once plugged in the bottom slot, it outputs video to TV Component port and audio to my amplifier. It's been working for years. After iOS 8 upgrade, I notice the video output lost left and right side. It's like

[after upgrade]             iPad is a wonderful product
The "Apple" on the left, and "for me." on the right of screen is gone in output.

  • In my music i have lost the column right with the alphabetic order ... how can i get back ?

in my music i have lost the column right with the alphabetic order .. how can i get back ?

    Hello Camcam369,
It sounds like you are not seeing the alphabet listed on the right when perusing songs, artists, or albums in the Music app.  I recommend a couple of steps you can take to get it back.
The first thing I recommend is quitting and relaunching the applications on your iPod touch:
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
If you are still seeing the same issue after quitting and relaunching the Music app, I recommend restarting your iPod and then resetting if it's still not working:
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
You can find the full article here:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, the last thing I recommend is backing up and restoring your iPod touch:

Are you saying you have lost the Develop module--which you can restore by doing a right-click on the top menu and putting a checkmark next to Develop:
Or have you have merely set the righthand panel to auto-hide and can undo this by clicking the little arrow at the right:

  • Lost administrative rights

My admin accounts shows as an admin account however, I can not install software updates. It says I do not system permissions to install it. I tried creating a new admin account but got the same results. some discussion groups on the web indicate I am not the only one and this occurs after a software update from MAC. How do I fix this?

Double check to make sure you are actually using your administrator account.
Repair permissions & afterwards boot up from your install DVD and run *"Repair Disc"* from the Utility menu.
When the above is done, restart back to your desktop, repair permissions & restart your computer again.
Also, check out KB Article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695 *Troubleshooting Automatic Software Update in Mac OS X* for possible solutions.

  • Lost Administrator rights..Cant change or edit, because it says I dont have admin priv

    Help..
I have been spending days trying to get my administrator privilege back.  One day, they just disappeared.  I cant download or add software, because of this.   I have tried every which way, and just when I think I found out why, it still
    comes back no admin priv.
This is really limiting me.  Does someone have a remote computer that they could look at this for me?  I am not that good using config, unless I am guided.  I make mistakes, and lose things!
I have tried all options that I could find on line.  no go..
It probably is an easier fix that I think, but I need help now..hate to admit it.
At the moment, I dont have enough money for a service call.  When problems happen, they come in threes.  Need to get a plumber for clogged drains, and my dryer quit.  So, I am hoping there is someone that could help me by remote and fix it.
I could pay something by billpay, but I do not have $200 to have someone come out and look at it.
Thank You for any help you can give me.

Don't think so, linking another credit card or buying an itunes giftcard are the only solutions..

  • I accidentally lost all my rights, how do I get them back?

My user is the admin user for my RoboSource Control 3.1 database. I was in the process of creating a new user when I accidentally erased all my rights. I can still see the user library screen, so according to the help system that means I still have administrator rights, but I can no longer create new users or change the rights of users I have already created. Does anyone know how I can correct this mistake?

Do you mean you were / are the only administrator? If so, you may have to reinstall RSC but hold fire until someone who actually uses the product helps. If you have another admin user, get them to add your rights back.

  • Lost administrator login and password.

We can't download new software etc. because we lost our administrator login and password. How do we reset it? Will we lose all of our files?

Insert the install disk that came with your MacBook. Reboot holding the C Key down. Once it boots from the install disk continue until you get to a window the has the menu bar across the top. Look under Utilities and find the *Reset Password* item. Change it and you should be able to log in again once you reboot your system.
