Lost AFP connections after upgrading to 10.6.7

Hi all,
I've just upgraded our OS X server to 10.6.7. All seemed to go fine, but for some reason now none of our users are able to connect to AFP shares any longer, they just get back an error in the Finder saying "connection failed".
I've tried looking in the AFP log files and I can see authenticated connections coming in ok. I've also tried disabling AFP and just using SMB and everyone is able to connect through SMB fine.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going wrong or how to trouble shoot this any further?
Thanks in advance.

To add my two cents: I upgraded the server to 10.6.7, but clients were still on 10.6.6, and didn't encounter the problem. We are using Active Directory logins via Kerberos though, so presumably just didn't run into the clear-text password issue.
My own hassle (briefly for now though, as might need to start a new thread on it) is that my users are still frequently getting these cursed lags/lockups when saving files to the server. I was praying the update would fix that, ho ho.
Also tried updating one of the clients to 10.6.7... no better. Similar lags if I try SMB instead too. Didn't get all this nonsense under Tiger, and lost count of all the tests & changes that have been tried, including clean SL re-installs.
It's driving us all bonkers, so any clues would be welcome!

  • Lost data connectivity after upgrading iPhone 4 to iOS 5. How to fix?

    Hello,
I upgraded my 16GB iPhone 4 yesterday from iOS 4.3.5 to iOS 5 and everything went fine after a few failed connections to Apple's servers, however my phone lost the data connectivity completely. Phone and SMS worked fine, I could also connect through wi-fi with no problems, however whenever I tried to use data I got a message that my phone was not signed to an internet service.
I restored my phone from the backup after upgrading. Not successful. I also reset the network configurations. No deal.
My carrier is Vivo (Brazil) and everything worked fine prior to the upgrade (and after the downgrade).
I imagine it can be a problem with APN configuration under iOS 5 and I tried to configure it through a webpage, but I got a message that my phone already had a APN config (profile) and could not install another. Under Settings>General>Network I don't have the "mobile network option" nor the "profile" option.
Any thoughts? So far I haven't contacted other people under my carrier who upgraded to see if they had the same problem.
    Thanks for reading,
    Samuel

I got a workaround; it's not what I wanted, but it solves the main problem.
I noticed that I only lost data connectivity after restoring from backup after the iOS 5 update. So what I did was to backup my phone, restore again to iOS 5, configure as a new phone and backup again (with nothing in the phone).
Then I launched an iPhone backup utility software, in this case, iBackupBot, which in the trial version is enough for what I wanted. I opened the old backup and exported only the files I wanted (like call history and SMS history), then I imported these files into the new backup and restored from it.
I lost my media files (which I copied before) and some configurations, but the most important itens, like SMS, I managed to export from the old (complete) backup.

  • MacBook Pro drops Wi-Fi connection after upgrading to 10.6.5. Fixed!

MacBook Pro drops Wi-Fi connection after upgrading to 10.6.5. Airport says no IP is detected then suddenly reconnects?
This has been a problem I’ve been troubleshooting for the last month. I’m new to the Mac family and have loved my experience up until this point. I was under the impression that mac’s are supposed to be so user friendly that even your grandmother could use one with out having any technical knowledge. I mean I shouldn’t have to be deleting drivers or reformat my mac because of an OS update glitch? (That’s what the guy at the Genius Bar told me to do.) What I refused to succumb to was that I’m really good with computers. I get at least a phone call every other week from someone asking me for tech support. So I’d like to think that nothing I’ve done to the system would have caused this anomaly.
After numerous attempts of troubleshooting and researching forms I believe I’ve discovered a solutions that seems to be working for me.
Here are the steps I took to create a consistent connection to my Wi-Fi. I believe it was a combination of all these steps to create success.
1.) Changed my router to use G Wireless Only. (I’m assuming this removed any unnecessary frequencies to allow G to broadcast stronger?)
2.) Did a scan on the other networks in my area to find out what channel everyone else was broadcasting on. Copy and past the text below into a terminal window.
    sudo ln -s /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/Current/Resourc es/airport /usr/sbin/airport
This will allow you to simply type “airport” in the terminal window to execute the command.
    Type airport –s
This will display all the networks in your area and what channel they are broadcasting on.
3.) Changed my router to use a channel that no one in my area was using. (This helped to make my network stronger and free of interference.)
The last steps will help your home network improve but these next steps I believe helped fix any install errors caused maybe by the 10.6.5 update on my mac.
4.) Boot your Mac into safe mode by holding down the shift key while booting.
5.) Open System Preferences and Click on Network.
6.) Click the drop down menu from Locations at the top of the screen. Click edit locations..
7.) Create a new location by clicking the + and give it a new name.
8.) Delete the old location by clicking on the old locations name and click the – to remove.
    9.) Reboot
10.) Open System Preference and click on Network.
11.) Click on the settings sprocket next to the + and – and click on Set Service Order…
12.) Drag Airport to the top of the list of devices then click Ok.
Now this last step is what seemed to eliminate the issue. I hardcoded my IP address to my network. This way my computer will always use the same IP and not have to search.
13.) Click on Advanced under Network.
14.) Click on TCP/IP. Click on the drop down for Configure IPv4 and change it to Manually.
15.) Fill out the fields with your IPv4 Address: 192.168.1.1xx (x=whatever number) Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Router: 192.168.1.1 (All of these settings are pretty standard for most home networks.)
16.) Click on the drop down for Configure IPv6 and change it to Off.
17.) Next click on the DNS tab at the top.
18.) Click the + to add a DNS Record.
To find your DNS Server open a Terminal window by launching Applications --> Utilities --> Terminal
    Then Type cat /etc/resolv.conf
(There is a space between cat and /. Without it you’ll get no such file or directory.)
This should return two addresses. Your ISP’s DNS Servers.
19.) Add both records to the DNS and click Ok.
20.) Click Ok then under Network Click Ok.
    21.) Reboot router then Mac
    22.) Fixed my connection issue
The symptoms I experienced eluded me to believe that something with the DHCP is going into an idle then disconnecting. Before when DHCP was set to automatically assign the network signal would time out then searchers for a new IP resulting in Airport displaying No IP is detected. By setting my IP to a fixed address I still notice a slight drop in bandwidth at moments but because of the assigned IP I never loose connection. I can now stream video, play games, chat all without getting disconnected.
I believe this fix will work for my home network but I also noticed this issue at work so for each location that I connect for the time being I’ll create each there own location and hardcode the IP address to that network. I’ve been reading that 10.6.6 is coming soon so maybe this will be resolved for good in the next update.
Let me know if this helps or if you have any questions.
    Best of luck.

I have been having the same issue for the last two weeks. No real indication as to why it ever began other than I had turned off my router and Airport Extreme Base Station off for a weekend while I was away from my place.
iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, all have no issues at all with my Airport Extreme Base Station. Can stay connected throughout my living room, bathroom, bedroom, no issues whatsoever.
My 5 month old MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Core i7 Airport is sometimes perfect, able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue. Then, for no reason, I won't be able to join my wireless network, or when I can join, I can't pick up an IP address. And then it will connect, pick up and IP, and then it won't browse. No real rhyme or reason to when this will happen, or when it works.
I thought that it was an issue with my MacBook Pro, but then my sister visited with her brand new MacBook Pro 2.26 Intel Core 2 Duo, and while a month ago she was able to connect, DHCP, and browse without issue, this weekend she had all of the same issues I was having.
My XBOX 360 and MacBook Pro have absolutely no issues with the wired connection. Only my WAN seems to have this issue.
Did you ever find anything more to this?

    HI Shaon Shan,
    Thanks for the info.
While searching for the file names start with iscsi in c:\windows\system32 folder the file version is 5.2.3790.3825 in working windows 2003  server.
Recently I've downloaded (Not yet installed) iSCSI initiator for Windows 2008 from Microsoft website in that iSCSI initiator file version shown as 6.3.4.1, instead of using inbuilt Microsoft iSCSI initiator in W2K8, shall I try installing the downloaded
    version,
because when I checked in Windows 2008 (Upgraded version) the iSCSI file version remains the same as 5.2.3790.3825 which was found in windows 2003.
    Post to our previous discussion
While I'm trying to install the new iSCSI initiator for Windows 2008 downloaded from Microsoft website, it shows some error "Setupcould not find the update.inf file needed to update your system" then I've updated my server, but no luck still showing the

OS 6 Facetime not connecting after upgrade in UAE It was before on an Ipad purchased in Uk, I am miserable, I know its the carrier Etisalat, I sincerely some one finds a fix for this help.

I attempted to uninstall QT and reinstall- the QT 7.4 installer failed to install (it said a more up to date version was present, even though I'd trashed the old one). I downloaded and reinstalled 7.5 but itunes still did not work.
    While my solution wasn't ideal
    1) It was what Apple told me to do!
    2) It seemed preferable to A) A complete system reinstall, B) removing 264 .plist files one at a time, rebooting, and seeing which one was causing the problem.
I still have the old .plist files in another folder, and can replace them in my preferences folder if I decide I need them. Most apps will create a new .plist file on start-up if there is not one present, so unless it is a program where I have gone to great lengths to change preferences from default, I'm guessing I will not notice much difference (and if I do, I can always go to my archive of .plists, or on Time Machine for that matter...)

  • Firefox would not connect after upgrade. Did system restore (XP) and not firefox wont even start

Firefox would not connect after upgrade from verion 6 to version 7. Did system restore (XP) and now firefox wont even start

Sometimes Firefox will hang during startup or shutdown, and still be running invisibly in the background. Usually in that case, you need to "kill" it either by restarting Windows or using the Windows Task Manager. It sounds as though you are familiar with opening the Processes tab, finding firefox.exe, and using End Process.
If you use an advanced firewall or other security software that tracks which programs are permitted to use the internet, please see these articles:
    * [[Fix problems connecting to websites after updating Firefox]]
    * [[Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet]]
    A couple of other suggestions:
    (1) Can you start Firefox in its Safe Mode? Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. You should get a two-button dialog. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset). Any difference?
    (2) In case your regular software missed something that is interfering with Firefox, try the scanning and clean-up tools listed in this article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]

Has anybody lost imported photos after upgrading to Lion? (iphoto11)

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Problem with the USB-connection after upgrade to P...

    Hello to everybody!
    After upgrading PC-suite, I can't establish a USB-connection with the phone.
    Here are the facts:
    1) My phone is the E90. Latest software installed (300.34.84)
    2) PC-Suite version 7.0.9.2 english. I also tried the greek version, same problem with it also.
    3) Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver 7.0.2.1. I also installed manually a previous version of the driver (7.0.2.0), but this didn't solve the problem.
    4) I didn't have any problem with the older version of PC-suite.
    5) I don't have a problem with the cable because the data-transfer-mode works fine.
    6) Prior to any installation attempt, I always first uninstalled PC-suite and Cable-driver manually with the windows-xp uninstall program. This was not the fact, only in my first attempt, where I upgraded the pc-suite from inside the program itself.
Please help, because I can't backup and this is very important for me!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you all for your suggestions but nothing of the above worked for me.
After of hours and hours of installing and uninstalling of several versions of the pc-suite I solved the problem as following:
    1) Uninstall manually (windows - control panel - add/remove programs)Nokia-PC-Suite, Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver AND PC Connectivity Solution!
    2) Restart PC
    3) Download and install the new version of Nokia-PC-Suite.
The tricky part is that you have to uninstall the application called "PC Connectivity Solution" manually and since the title of the application dosn't include the Nokia-Name you have first to find out that this program is Nokia-related!
Once again, thanks to everybody who took the time to make suggestions and especially to cricfancy who made me aware of the fact that PC Connectivity Solution is a nokia application!
Finally, I would like to make a statement for Nokia:
People, if you are not sure about an update then keep it in beta and don't make it available to the public!!! I lost hours and hours on search and made countless installs and uninstalls to find out what was wrong. Under the line, I had made no mistakes in my update from the start and the whole problem was based on your software! This is not acceptable!

  • Lost Bonjour connection after 10.5.7

After upgrading to 10.5.7 I lost connection by bonjour to our OCE 163CS printer/copier/scanner. The printer driver is the same and I have checked if the ip number of the printer has changed. Its set as fixed 10.0.0.223 on the printer. Bonjour is enabled on the printer.

Does your sound work normally through the built-in speakers?
Yes, the sound is perfect through the built-in speakers.
Have you tried inserting and reinserting the external jack several times? Sometimes the jack or >>>the switch gets dirty.
Yes, I tried a lot of times, also with different jacks. Besides booting in windows through the bootcamp partition the jack works perfectly. This is one of the other thing that brings me to think that must be a driver problem.
When you plug in an external device, you should see a change in the settings in the Sound >>>preference pane.
If it changes to digital that"s a problem.
When the system recognizes the headphone I see a change in the output sound setting. It changes to headphone. Unfortunately after some moment the system go back to built-in speaker.
Create a new account and see if the problem still exists with the new account.
I tried with a new account and the problem persists also in this situation.
After all the tries I did today the situation seems getting worst...now the system does not recognized the headphone any more... The pass few days if I inserted the jack and waited some time the system recognized the headphone, but after all this tries the system does not recognize the headphone any more...
I don't believe that the only way to solve the problem is to reinstall the OS. I have all my work on my mac and a complete re-installation could take a lot of time...
I think that a possible solution could be to reinstall the audio driver.
    Waiting for your suggestions.
    Thanks

  • Lost my wireless after upgrading

After upgrading my Airport Extreme to 5.3.1, i have lost my wireless connections. I still have my wired connection through the router, I can't seem to re-establish my network through airport. I have even reset the airport by pushing the button. Restarted my cable internet connection x 2 and restarting my computer, recycling the Airport Extreme...nothing is working wirelessly. Maybe my Airport Extreme is broken?

Try deleting the following files from the ~/Library/Preferences/ directory (this is the Library directory within your User folder):
    * com.apple.internetconfig.plist
    * com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist
    * com.apple.internetconnect.plist
go to to Airport menu and re-selecting the desired network.
    *perform a hard reset*
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107451
Also, merely unplug the Base Station and then plug it back in after 30 seconds or so. I've also experienced this same problem on a very infrequent basis and recycling the AEBS always permitted it to be recognized again by Apple's Airport Utility
