Lost Albums and Pictures in Library

I recently had a problem with my computer and had to do a
I went to iPhoto where I had my 2,500 photos organized into separate albums and completely organized and all the photos were gone. I dragged the livrary file into iPhot and got back up to 2006?
*I have tried to Add to Library my 2007 photos and it says that the jpeg files that were already in iPhoto won't import with the error message Not the Right File Type.* I am completely confused. Can I fix this? Or do I have to rebuild it all.

My computer wouldn't boot so I had to reinstall the operating system. I guess I left that part out. When i opened iPhoto for the first time nothing was there. I dragged a back up of the iPhoto Library onto iPhoto and only got back part of my Library as well as set-up Albums.
Now when I go to drag the remaining photos that did not show up in iPhoto it says that the photos are not the right format. I hope that I won't lose them. I never touched them and they are jpegs.
Is there a way to reinstall iPhot and get back my Album list and all the photos?

Sync them back from whatever contact manager or cloud service you were syncing them with.

  • How do I get my albums and pictures to match correctly? Ever since the last iPhoto update my entire library has been in disarray. i.e. my wedding album have pics from vacation album. Which was not the case before.   MacBook Pro 2010

Ever since I did the lastest iPhoto update my picture albums have not correctly matched up with the corresponding photos. i.e. my wedding pictures now show up in my vacation album.  The picture thumbnails are not showing me the correct photos.

I have iPhoto '11 with the lastest software update. I forgot what number it currently is. I am vigalant when it comes to the latest software updates. Yes, I did restore my iPhoto pictures from a backup since I founf out I could not share any of my pics using my apeture library since they were not the orginals. So, after the back-up of iPhoto all my pictures albums and the pics in the album do not match up, even the thumbnails.  I find this quite annoying. All my albums were working and correctly before this update.  As for apeture can I re-master all the photos there masters? so i can just do away with using iPhoto all together?
    Thanks for the quick reply!

  • Lost iPhoto and pictures

Tonight opened iPhoto and was prompted to select a library. I chose the library I thought was the correct one (I only have two choices iPhoto or Pictures) and now when iPhoto opens I have all the thumbnails but when I click to open them all I get is a black screen with an "!" mark.
I have tried all the usual procedures such as opening with "Option & Cmd" buttons held and rebuilt
all #1,2, & 6, or only "option" held to choose new library all to no avail.
Furthermore, when I went back to my Pictures folder all I have is a folder which went clicked on opens iPhoto. If I right-click on this folder then I can see all my other contents. I have tried to select-all in the this folder to drag onto the Pictures folder but all I get is a pop-up saying it can't be opened because "Pictures" may be damaged or incomplete
Using a cmd line from a previous problem I was able to get my "Pictures" folder back to what it should be (after several goes during which it kept reverting back).
Can anyone offer some advice on how I can open up my photos please?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How do I recover missing iPhoto albums and pictures?

A week ago, all my iPhoto Albums disappeared that normally would appear in the left iPhoto column under LIBRARY and RECENT. When I opened the iPhoto app from both the Dock and the Applications folder, an iPhoto window opens and asks if I would like to set up my iPhoto Library. The first few times this happened, I ignored the request and tried again with the same results.
I tried unsuccessfully finding and restoring the iPhoto Library Database from my external 3TB Time Machine hard drive. I couldn't find any full iPhoto Library Database backup and my backups go back a year. Instead, all I found and restored are photos and videos that were saved outside of iPhoto on the Desktop and in hard drive folders. Several months ago, there was a similar occurrence, but I was able to restore the Library Database. With no luck this time, I eventually allowed iPhoto to start up as if it was being installed for the first time and I never had the option to load an earlier backup Library Database or choose an automatic restore from an earlier version or backup.
While trying to go through various recovery choices with iPhoto, I started getting iCloud login popups asking for my Apple ID and password. I kept cancelling these because I had not previously set up iCloud. When iCloud messages persisted, I finally used my ID and password and the popups stopped. I'm clueless why this was happening and I remain clueless as to what occurred after I tried many cancellations, then finally entered my ID and password. Since then (two days ago), there has been no evidence of iCloud operating or requiring my attention.
After holding the command+option keys to start the iPhoto app, I've tried all the radio button options, one at a time, to Repair, Rebuild, Recover, Examine with no luck. Instead, all that is found are the same files I already mentioned. When I start iPhoto now after allowing it to start up from scratch, the Library Database shows iPhoto Library Recovered Photos (2 photos), Resources (176 photos), a CD backup, Desktop, and lots of short collections of media, resources, thumbnails, and other graphics images I don't recognize and are probably Invisibles. The only photos that appear when Photos is clicked in the left colum of iPhoto are photos that were apparently imported from backed up desktop and hard drive folders. All the photos that were previously imported to iPhoto and stored in iPhoto albums no longer appear individually or in albums in the left column of iPhoto.
    I'm using a one-year old iMac running Mac OS X Version 10.7.5 with iPhoto '11 Version 9.2 (626).
I'm reasonably confident the phtoos and albums are recoverable somewhere, but I'm at a loss to find out where. I've been running Macs since 1984 and this is the first time I have been totally unable to explain or recover from an OS, hardware, or app-level problem.
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated. If absolutely necessary, I could pack up all my gear and take it to an Apple office 23 miles away for help.

My problem was not so much the loss of pictures, but the loss of their virtual association into albums I created because the albums were no longer appearing when iPhoto was started. I was reluctant to do any reinstalls of the OS, Tme Machine, or iPhoto because I was confident the existing installs were as they should be. Instead, I explored earlier Time Machine backups of iPhoto-related files and folders. I tried several different files/folders to see what I could find when I restored and opened them. To my delight, I found an earlier "iPhoto Library (original)" that, once I restored it to my desktop, iPhoto automatically found the virtual album-photo associations that existed prior to the earlier loss of albums; the restored albums appea as they should in the left column of iPhoto. This "fix" was not intuitively obvious to me, but I was pleased it worked.
A simple iPhoto explanation through iPhoto Help would have been very helpful if the explanation would have said iPhoto Album and Smart Album photo associations are logical, not physical, and the associations and album names are store in the iPhoto Library folder.
At this point, I'm hesitant to move the restored "iPhoto Library (original)" from the desktop, perhaps to the Applications folder, because I don't want to run the risk of undoing what seems to be working. Should I leave this on the desktop or move it?

  • Lost albums and triple items after archive & install

Hopefully, I can write this so it is understandable.
First of all, I had a similar problem to some I have read here when I transferred my photos from my old G4 to my new imac, I found I had lots of those nasty grey boxes with the question marks. I did find that the originals were there, just in another roll but it happened to many different photos with no apparent connection. But.....I recently had a problem with my new imac and we had to do an archive and install...
Well, now I no longer have the grey boxes...(at least I don't think so) but I lost all my albums and I now have 30,500 items when I originally had only 10,000. (that is why I am not sure about the grey boxes, because I have not been able to open every photo)
It appears that I have all the originals, the modified, and the thumbnails showing up in the main library. I have iphoto library manager and when I open the only other library thru photo manager, it retained the albums in that one!!!
My concern is that I don't want to go in and start deleting photos and somehow screw up the whole library. I can always redo the albums, that is not the biggest problem. But 30,500 items to go through???? Not sure what to do next.
    I hope this makes sense....
    Thanks Judy

  • How do I retrieve lost notes and pictures

How do I retrieve lost notes and pictures

Not sure about pictures, but for iphone notes:
After many hours of trying everything to retrieve my lost notes (several just disappeared overnight for no reason) it dawned on me that they were linked to one of my email accounts (In my case yahoo).
I logged into that account directly from the yahoo site (not iphone mail!) and "Voila!" all of my notes, even the disappeared ones, were there!
Took some cut & pasting and I'm back in business.
    Hope this helps.

  • Lost Album to Picture links

I use Photoshop Elements 9 with Windows 7 and backed up both my pictures and saved my albums as a XML file.  Then my computer got a virus and the hard drive had to be wiped clean.  I restored my files and pictures from an external hard drive.  I reinstalled Photoshop Elements 9 and then uploaded the albums from the XML file I saved.  All the album names are restored, but the pictures are not connected to the albums!  How can I restore the albums with the pictures without starting over and dragging each picture into the album?  I thought the XML file saved the picture/album links?  Help?

See that faq about backing up catalogs.
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Backing_up_your
From what you are writing, I understand that you did not backup your media filesusing the integrated backup/restore function in the Organizer.
I do not see any mention of your also backing up the catalog and restoring it in the same location. So, I assume you did reimport the files in a new empty catalog ?
You used the 'save albums' option in the tags panel, and (I assume) the 'load from file' option to restore... the definitions of the albums only.
If you had done either the backup/restore from Organizer or the backup and restore of both media files and catalog outside the organizer, you would have recovered all your albums as well as your tags, categories, ratings, stacks etc.
The option to 'save albums' only saves the definition of the albums (not their content) and I think that definition is dependent on the catalog database : without a restored catalog, I don't see how they could restore links to the photo files. On the other hand, since restoring the catalog is enough to restore albums, I wonder what is the purpose of the option to 'save albums' in xmp text files ? Very misleading I do understand how saving the keyword tags in an xmp file helps recreating the tags categories when reimporting files in a new catalog, but I don't see how that would work for albums.

  • Albums and keywords - moving library

I need to move my library to a new internal drive. I have found the info I need to do this but I'm wondering if all my albums and keywords will be transfered with the photos? Is there anything else I need to worry about or consider?

    Hi Greg,
As long as you backup then copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library folder to the new drive, you should be all set.

  • How do I retrieve lost album and artist info in my music library?

In trying to add an album just purchased from itunes onto my ipod, for some reason the album shows up in my library but will not sync to the ipod adn I get a sync error.  After resetting the ipod numerous times, I found advice online that suggested tinkering with the "get info" and deselecting compilation settings.  In doing this, I've managed to lose all song info except for the song title-- no album, artist, year, artwork, etc.  Going back through Get Info and checking those boxes only results in the same list of songs, with no other info, in my library... help!??

Without connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer and go to preferences.  On the Devices tab is a list of your available backups.  Unless a newer one is listed your can't get you information back.  If a newer backup is listed, do the following:
Without connecting your phone, open iTunes on your computer and go to Preferences.  On the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".
Connect your phone to your computer, right-click on the name of your phone when it appears in iTunes on the left sidebar and select Restore from Backup, choose your most recent backup to restore from.
When complete, you can go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and re-enable automatic syncing.
Your apps should be in your iTunes library and can be synced back to your phone.  If they aren't, redownload them in iTunes for free (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519) and sync them back to your phone.

  • I opened iPhoto to find all of my albums and pictures gone.

None of the rebuild options discussed in other forums have brought the pictures back. Earlier today, my computer experienced a kernel panic. Would that have deleted all of my pictures? I don't know a lot of technical stuff about how my Mac works. I just really need my pictures back! I don't understand how they can just disappear. They aren't in my trash or anything. I had opened Skype and tried to change my profile picture and it asked me something about a "new iPhoto library." Did I click something wrong?

The only way is to tap the screen as if you were entering the passcode, there is no secret way around this. Try plugging it in to your computer and see if it will let you import the photos, if not then you may want to look at trying some data recovery software.

  • Lost Videos and Pictures

Last night, I connected my iphone  4 to my computer for the first time in a VERY long time. I have not had any of the updates installed and was finally getting around to it.  When I plugged it in, it autmotically started synching and "restoring" my phone.  When it was done...all my videos, pictures, texts, and a lot of my contacts were GONE.  I do not have icloud as I have such an old update, but am DESPERATE to get these videos back as many are very sentimental.  I did not try to erase anything, I simply was trying to get an update of software so I could download some new apps. I feel like my videos have to be somewhere.  Please help if you can!!! Thank you so much!!!
