Lost all bookmarks

A weird one. Installing Verizon DSL I had Safari and IE open at the same time (which I have done on occaision) - anyway somewhere in all this mess - Safari
lost all Bookmarks (plus now takes 10 - 15 seconds to launch).
Can I get them back ?
Thanks !!
Sam

Oh...now I get it. For a moment there I thought Verizon was actually doing something intelligent.
If you haven't done so, I suggest telling Verizon about your dissatisfaction and the problem created by their approach to software.
I guess they'll learn their lesson soon enough...the iPhone will lead the way.

  • Bookmark function not working at all; lost all bookmarks and can't recover

I have lost all bookmark function, all bookmarks, and have tried all of the suggested tips for recovering them. I found the "profile" file within Help->Troubleshooting Info.->Application Basics-> but there's no information about what to do with it once you find it. It's an application apparently. I have quit everything running, restarted, etc. Nothing is working. Please help.

Thanks I've checked out the manual.
Under the "Data Transfer" menu there are two options "Server sync" and "PC synchronisation".
Neither are mentioned at all in the user guide!
I assume it's the latter I'm interested in, and all it does is give an option for a user name and password.
I've set a user name and password, but I'm not sure what they're for, there seems to be no option in PC Suite to put them in.
    Any other guidance much appreciated!

If you open your current profile folder, do you have a bookmarkbackups folder in there?
Help > Troubleshooting Information > Open Containing Folder button
If so, copy those somewhere safe before proceeding.
If not, do you ever back up your profile folder?
You also might navigate up a level and see whether you have any other Firefox profiles.
If you cannot save any new bookmarks, I wonder whether your places.sqlite file (stores history and bookmarks) in your profile has become corrupted. You might need to rename that file and allow Firefox to create a new one before you can save new bookmarks again. I wouldn't delete the file just yet, as it might contain some useful stuff.

  • Lost all bookmarks on the 18th of April, it's all blank, lost how do I get them back? I think there was an update that day & everything is gone. I'm heartsick.

I've been using Firefox for a while now. You've had a few updates & I've always kept my bookmarks. But on the 18th of April you did any update & I lost all my bookmarks in that update.. I've tried looking for the answer & the way to get them back. But have not found a way. So how do I get my bookmarks back from before the 18th of April of 2015? Nothing you have addresses that subject. I'm heartsick about this.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can
be caused by a corrupted '''places.sqlite''' database file.
Type '''about:support''' in the address bar and press enter.
Under the page logo on the left side you will see '''Application Basics.'''
Under this find '''Profile Folder.''' To it’s right press the button
'''Show Folder.''' This will open your file browser to the current
    Firefox profile. Now '''Close Firefox.'''
Locate the '''places.sqlite''' file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.
These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

  • Lost-All bookmarks and bookmark folders

All my bookmarks and bookmark folders have disappeared. How do I recover them? I am using safari 1.3.2 Can anyone help with this?

    warning: it's long
I too lost all my bookmarks/folders in Safari -- after a Verizon DSL install-induced browser hi-jacking. See http://www.red-sweater.com/blog/?p=78
for a story that captures my own experience nearly to the last detail. But, unfortunately, unlike the blog author my bookmarks.plist was not a back up of my extensive bookmark collection -- it was a big zero, like some other responders to that reported.
I am a total amateur, just your basic user, and couldn't follow the code discussion toward the bottom of the blog, it's over my head. But, although not knowledgable, I am desperate and persistent and rarely accept "can't be done" answers, even if I don't really know what I'm doing and keep getting that same answer.
I tried all the standard suggestions so far, searching .plists, searching my hd for anything safari, anything bookmark, anything .html. Read many of the discussions on lost bookmarks, tried everything I could understand how to do.
I stumbled upon in the ~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari over a thousand files with crazy number/character names that all have suffix ".webbookmark" I probably did have over 1000 bookmarks. When I double click one of those .webbookmark files in that folder, a webpage springs forth in Safari, one of my former bookmarks. Also, click in the finder on one of those ~.webbookmark file and 'get info' and it shows the .html file name and bookmark name for it.
I believe this is somehow my old bookmark collection, and not a history cache, for various reasons: upon clicking, I recognize the webpage that appears and I know bookmarked anywhere from a few months ago, as well as some oldies, but have not visited recently. Random spot checking seems like no sites I recently visited but did not bookmark are showing up.
Would not be fun to double click every one of the 1000+ .webbookmark files in the metadata/Safari to open the page it represents and then "add bookmark" in Safari, to restore my bookmarks. Is there some automatic way of doing that? Am I not understanding the metadata folders enough and have tricked myself into believing they are my real bookmarks and not history or useless stuff. It's totally possible my ignorant forays and fleeting glimpses (but not, out of the corner of my eye....) are fool's gold.
Can someone let me know whether this is worth pursuing, and if so, how, and if so how so in plain terms because of my limited knowledge and floundering around without understanding what I'm doing and what it means.
I know, I know, I should have backed up before I did the *&^@! install, I should back up before I do anything, and do it regularly anyway. Don't laugh too hard now, but get this, when I did back up before, I didn't know what I was doing and just backed up "documents" folder (see, told you I was ignorant; but, older and wiser now...) But I had no idea something like getting DSL would screw up my browser (and my apple mail -- that's a different awful story too, still unresolved) and who knows what else.
No, I have not used another browser since early 2005, and wasn't as 'bookmark crazy' then as I've been the last few years (or my life wasn't as complicated then and I didn't need to bookmark a lot of important, and I mean important, as well as obscure sites, that I don't need on a daily basis, but do need, but don't want to search through thousands of google hits to find the right one, when I realize I need it again...). Yes, sure, i will salvage what I can from IE and Netscape although they're way incomplete and frozen in time of simpler days.
A thousand curses upon my evil DSL provider who thinks browser/mail/etc. hi-jacking is fun and smart PR.
I will appreciate any help. (and it's understood if the real answer is "can't be done;" worth trying here though) Just point me to the right discussion if this has already been attended to.
    Thanks!

  • Upgraded from FF3.6.3 to 3.6.17 lost all bookmarks. Help

As soon as I upgraded to 3.6.17 almost all bookmarks were lost. I've searched intensively and played with "restore" etc and have had no success.
If I go back to FF 2.0.0.20 Most of my bookmarks are there.
If I go to IE8, I can import my bookmarks from FF.
How do I get all the bookmarks back in 3.6.17 or is it a lost cause? I can't even get it to work with 3.6.3 anymore. Even with reinstallation. I've even installed 3.6.12 at this point and no avail.
    I'm on Windows XP.
    Thanks for any help.

Okay, I may have found a solution for restoring my Personal Toolbar. I did the following steps.
    1) I imported into IE8 all of my bookmarks from FF 3.6.3, I did this to make sure that I could get the info out of my old FF 3.6.3 into IE8.
    2) In 3.6.3 under Help-> Trouble Shooting Information->Open Profiles I copied out the profile of me the current user to my desktop as a safety measure.
    3) Then I uninstalled 3.6.3 including all of the private data files, etc. In other words I deleted any data to do with FF 3.6.3, passwords, cookies, etc.
    4) Then I did a scratch install of FF 3.6.3 and imported my info from IE8
    5) Then I just went and looked around in FF 3.6.3 to see what files were in my profile.
    6) Then I went and rearranged my imported data.
    7) After moving the correct items to the Personal Toolbar, walla, they all showed up again just like before and even the BookMarks drop down had almost everything I needed.
Goodluck everyone, hope this rambling helps a little.
It was when I went from 3.6.3 to 3.6.17 (remember 3 is less than 17) that everything went haywire for me.
I didn't want to go to Chrome since they don't have a way to make session only and permanent cookie choices. Learning curve was also pretty steep. But it does suck in all of the bookmark information effortlessly from FF.
I only keep IE8 around since MicroSquish requires IE for updates.

  • Pc was refreshed, lost all bookmarks which i need..help !!

A strange toolbar popped up, had to refresh my pc as it turned out to be malware, now all my bookmarks which I need, are gone..have tried all the suggestions on how to get them back, nothing worked..also I am a senior and not too pc savy...thank you

    Hello,
Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.
#Use <u>one</u> of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
#*Click the ''[[Display the Firefox button menu instead of the menu toolbar|Firefox button]]'' to open the menu and click on ''Bookmarks''.
#*Click the ''Bookmarks'' menu and click on ''Show All Bookmarks''.
    # At the top of the Library window, click the "Import and Backup" menu and select Restore.
    # Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
    # In the new window that appears, click OK.
    # Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.
For more information, see the [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]] article. For other solutions, see the [[Recover lost or missing Bookmarks]] article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Had firefox want to do an update, updated lost all bookmarks then randomly it unstalled and back to the pre-updated version

the other day, firefox updated itself , i lost all my bookmarks autologins etc, them randomly today its gone back to the pre-update version? i dont know whats going on? the version on my computer currently is 27.0

This is not an issue that Firefox itself is going to cause. Maybe it is your backup software or something.
Firefox has no mechanism for causing reverts to older installs. When Firefox does upgrade it does try to preserve bookmarks. I note from your Sytem information aside that you have McAfee software, but I do not know whether that may be implicated in this sort of problem.
I do know; certainly in the past; some McAfee software, and particularly the SiteAdvisor have caused Firefox problems.
N.B. Firefox has its own built in features
    * [[How does built-in Phishing and Malware Protection work?]]
    * And Windows provides basic AV software for free http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/security-essentials-download
I could try to give some basic help information regarding Windows features for recovering previous versions of files
    * - Please - always carefully back up any existing files or folders before attempting that
    * http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/previous-versions-files-faq#1TC=windows-7
I suspect however your problem may relate to use of third party backup or security software.
    * What security related software and backup software is in use ?

  • Had to wipe disks and reinstall everything. Lost all bookmark and speeddial data. How do I get back to where I was?

I am using an HP Envy 15 laptop. I recently had a problem that required me to restore from the original restoration disk thus wiping out everything I had added over the last year including Firefox. I had previously backed up everything to an external hard drive but that seems to have saved only photos. I've lost everything else. At least, I cannot restore any of the data back to the PC. I have downloaded Firefox again, but have lost all my bookmarks, scrapbooks, speed dial, etc. Is there anyway I can retrieve this data from Firefox?

Unless you were using the Firefox Sync extension and your Firefox data was uploaded to the Sync server, or you have a backup of your Firefox Profile data, your data is probably gone.
Try searching that backup data for a JSON file or a file named places.sqlite.
