Lost all contacts, photos, everything after updating iphone3gs to ios6

Hi there,
I have updated my iphone 3gs to ios6 because many new app required io5 or ios6.
I back it up but after the update the backups are gone.
I searched on my computer with files names, etc, but everything is GONE, pictures, contacts, apps, messages, nothing. I have a brand new iphone with io6 (will count for the great statistics of apple) but as customer I feel ready to something else (non apple) if I do not manage to get back all I had on my iphone.
I looked in other threads but their solutions did not work for me.
Hope someone can help me.

All contact information from your iphone is stored in you itunes backup.. Anyone trying to tell you otherwise either has not had the benefit of experience, or is trying to coerce you into using the cloud..
You can pay $40 to $100 for a program that can acces the contact info..
or you can use freeware to extract the backup , browse it for the contact information and convert it into a document which you can then open and manually copy your contacts from..
Even if you have a newer backup on your computer, the old information may still be in there..
So far as your apps, if you did not use the "transfer purchases" option when backing up, your lost apps are lost and you will have to again download them from the app store.. in the future, use the "transfer purchases" option and ALL your apps will be on your backup..

Have had the same issue - and conflicts between PC, Ipad and Iphone. Gained 6000 names and lost contacts or contact contents. Have had to edit on PC. Spoke with Apple Express and was advised to do editing only on PC and then sync. Was also told not to use Icloud until problems had been solved. Have spent last two weeks recreating my contacts list.
Haven't yet bothered to reclaim my missing paid ring tones.

Lost all contacts AND apps after updating my 3G to 4.0

I lost everything with the exception of my Safari bookmarks and my photos in my photo album. Have tried restoring from several back ups but nothing. Any other PC users with a 3G have this issue? Any help would be MUCH appreciated. - Duane

I have actually more than once but to no avail. No one else who is synced to a PC has seemed to lose both and still not get them back after trying from various restore points from what I can tell. Thanks though!

Lost all contact, not during any update

Hi,
My apps were closing for no reason so I decided to close my phone and wait a bit. I turned it on and the apps were fine but when I wanted to make a call i realized that i lost all my contacts. I still have everything in my calendar though. I wasn't doing an update or so. Also, my phone is not synch with my itunes.
Can someone help me?

My Iphone 4 just did the same thing about an hour ago. I tried to open up the phone and it kept shutting down, then tried my messages and same thing, kept shutting down. So I turned off my phone and all my contacts are gone.. Can someone please help with this situtaiton. How can we get our contacts back?

Lost all my purchased music after update!

I recently purchased the software update for my iPod touch, and have now lost all of my purchased music from my iTunes. How can I get it back?

Your music is normally stored in your iTunes library (which is how it was originally synced to your phone) and syncing with iTunes would transfer it back to your phone. If it isn't in your iTunes library your only option is to re-import it and then sync it to your phone. Music has never been included in the iPhone backup. (When you restore an iCloud backup it merely redownloads your purchased music from the iTunes store.)
------But my music from ripped CDs and playlists are now missing from my iTunes library on my commuter too after I upgraded/downloaded the latest iTunes version that was suggested. 11.0 I think? So if I don't have the CDs to rip again, the music is pretty much lost then huh?

Lost all contacts on N95 software update

i have successfully updated my N95 firmware to V20.0.015 and the phone works as such. But when i want to restore all contacts saved using before using PC Suite it hangs up showing 51% done and nether finishes.
Somebody has any idea?

Sometimes easier to deselect some of the things that you want to restore first, for example, if you only do contacts in the first restore pass then pictures etc.
Stuff that I have to absolutly back up I normally perform a manual drag and drop onto my PC because in the past I have seen its unreliable.
Also a handy technique is to Synchronise your phones contacts with My Nokia and also a PIM program such as Microsoft Outlook, that way you have more that one bank of contacts to back up from. Syncing to Microsoft Outlook has saved me a few times.
As for it taking a long time, how are you connecting? USB or Bluetooth, Bluetooth will take a long time if you have lots of pictures and content.
Try unselecting content from phone memory and then making another restore pass.

your only hope is if you have a backup on itunes or icloud

The same thing happened with me. I was updating my husband's iPhone 3GS to iOS 5, and it lost his calendars and contacts. When I did the update, I let it do a sync and backup first.
Since that time, I tried to do a restore, and it only saw a back up from October, 2010. Where are backups stored? Are they invisible files on the mac? His laptop is a 13" macbook running 10.6.8.

Lost all my paid apps after updating to iOS4! Apps not in backup!!!

I just updated my iPod touch (3 gen) from some OS 3.xxx to iOS4. After 1-2 hours, I got an error message saying that the backup failed. I looked on my iPod touch and saw that all of my apps were deleted except 4 random ones. Thinking that my apps were safe in my backup, I checked in iTunes. My free apps were still there but my 2 paid apps were gone! They were Doodle Jump and Ninja Fruit. Although it's only $2 dollars - I lost my money! Will Apple give my 2 paid apps or money back? I had all my updates done so my apps were iOS4 OK.
One little note. My iPod touch was jailbroken which makes me worried. All I got from Cydia was Pokemon and Themes. Did this contribute to the problem? Yet, a lot of people jailbreak and don't have a problem. But, I am certain that I paid for those 2 apps. I even got physical invoices in the mail.

What data? Your contacts, calendars, etc should be synced to your computer, you can just sync it right back.

For the apps? I gave you a link to Apple's instructions on how to download apps again for free. Follow them.

Your music should be on your computer as well ( in itunes). That is how you got on the ipod in the first place, is it not? Just sync it back to the ipod

It does not normally do that ( at least in my experience), but you should always make sure that everything is copied to your computer and backed up before you install an update or do a restore.

I just upgraded to iOS6 on my iPhone 4 and all my text messages are gone. I always do a backup before any major OS update. Everything is there (Pictures, Contacts, Voicemail, etc.) except for my text messages. After searching around, it seems like a bug that many people are experiencing. I have still yet to find a fix? Anyone able to get them back?

my 3g was useless running 4.0 so I downgraded (upgraded?) back to 3.1.3.
I was sure to sync/back up before doing so.
but now I've lost almost everything. anyway I can restore this? where on my mac may the info be hiding. thanks for any help you can send my way.

Downgrading the firmware is not supported by Apple, so Terms of Use prohibit further discussion.
You'll have to find help elsewhere.

As far as I know you can't delete the primary email address for an iCloud account. It's assigned when the account is created. But your neighbor wouldn't have been able to get into your iCloud account without your Apple ID and password. Are you sure the account wasn't still on your phone when you gave it to him?
You could migrate a copy of your data to a new iCloud account but I would still be concerned that someone else was using my old account, which presumably still has your data in it.
I'm fairly certain that you're going to have to have iCloud support help you sort this one out as they may have the ability to make changes to an existing account that users can't. Make an appointment with the genius bar at a nearby Apple store and have them take a look at it. If necessary, they should be able to contact iCloud support for you.
