Lost all edits before 2010

Hello,
I have been a Lightroom user 2008 and am currently using version 5.7. I recently went to look at some images from 2008 and 2009 and they have all lost the edits I have done to them. However, from 2010 to present the edits are intact. I never lost or changed the catalog and I have been religious in doing catalog backups. I even opened some old backup catalogs from 2012 but they still don't contain the edits from 2008 and 2009. When I first try to open these old pictures, they show up with the edits for only a split second and then revert to the original raw (nef) file appearance. Has anyone else run into this problem before. I tried searching for an answer but have been unsuccessful. Thanks in advance.
Greg.

This may have been discussed, above, already...  Did you have LR set to write settings to XMP metadata automatically?  If so, the XMP would have a snapshot of the last settings you applied to the image, and you could re-read from XMP files and get that snapshot of settings back.
If you do have XMP files for the old photos w/o history, the first thing to do is temporarily turn off auto-writing of XMP settings so it doesn't overwrite the old settings with nothing.  Auto-XMP writing is a catalog setting so you have to turn it off for each catalog you open.
The make a copy of your catalog and make a copy of the XMP files (or the images themselves, i.e. JPGs, if they aren't raws) and then as soon as you open the catalog and switch to a folder, initiate a Read Metadata from Files operating in Library with your images selected, and see if the last edit comes back.

  • Lost all edits!

So.. I went to pull an image for a vendor from a wedding I had shot way back in January… I added a few to the quick collection.  Fine right? Now when I look through the master files in the hierarchy, ALL of the edits are lost, including color labels, starring, flagging, etc.  The only images that were not affected are any duplicates that I converted to black and white.  What in the world could have happened???  I swear I did not change a thing with the catalog or moving files on disk etc.  Can I import from an older backup of a catalog to restore my edits?

It sounds as if somewhere along the line you have clicked on the reset button with all of your images highlighted.  IF you have a backup catalog that contains all of the edits you can use that catalog.  That is one of the main purposes for having backups.I

  • Do all editing before any color correction?

I have just gotten final cut pro x.
I have some experience (very limited a couple of years back, with a Sony Home Movie Studio Platinum).
I am shooting my own music video.
Really enjoying using FCPX atm.  Niggles aside (the lack of a manual save feature)
    Just curious about workflow/resources.
Should I do all my editing, prior to color correction from a resources standpoint.
Does it make it slower, rendering say a zoom in the transform function with color correction applied, than without?
Eg, I have a clip, I put a keyframe and start and end of the clip. Then I scale the clip to 105% on the end of clip keyframe
    to simulate a zoom in.
Should I be doing all that kind of editing, then applying any color correction or video type effects?
    cheers
    Wiz

Should I do all my editing, prior to color correction from a resources standpoint.
That's the SOP for working with professional video. You organize your media, you edit your media, you mix your audio, you add your transitions and titles, add effects and motion, color correct your video.

  • Lost all information before last back up, can I get it back?

I didn't back up my system for a week or so (I do it manually) and something just happened and all the data I had, the new bookmarks, my history are all gone. I'd like to get this stuff back. Is there a file I can open, a place I can look, some software I can download to get it back?
    cheers,

I opened a file I downloaded from Transmissions and it opened a URL in Safari.
I don't know what this means. What is "Transmissions," and what was this file that you opened?
This is REALLY frustrating as I had 200GB from my external HD's in the trash cans
If you just had a glitch on one drive, that stuff should still be there. Are you saying you've lost stuff from multiple drives, not just the boot drive?
Do you think I can get it back?
If the stuff is truly lost, then it's possible with file-recovery utilities, but unlikely IMHO. If you have continued using the machine, the OS has been writing files all over the hard drive that would potentially overwrite your data. It's constantly writing to virtual memory swap files, and every time you open a web page, cache files get written. Log files change size, any new documents you create write to the hard drive... in short, if you don't immediately turn the computer off when you discover files are missing and only start it back up from a different boot disk once you have the file recovery utilities in-hand, you increase the chances of permanently destroying any "erased" data that might remain on the drive.
Also, is there an offline storage space for bookmarks?
If you have a MobileMe account, you can sync bookmarks to that.

  • 8830 World Edition suddenly lost all mail from before yesterday and call log cleared

I have one our resident higher ups who have lost all there mail on there device. They are receiving mail now but anything befroe yesterday is gone. Also there call log has been cleared.
I have already deleted and reactivated them on our BES and that was no help.

For the end-user, s/he needs to clear up some memory on the device....
First thing? Check the File Free at Options > Status, what is the number at File Free?
Now, remove the battery of your device, hold a minute, replace and reboot. What is the File Free now?

  • Bloggie lost all pictures and video taken before new year.

Somehow, the bloggie lost all pictures and video I have taken before Jan 1, 2011. I know I did not delete any of pictures on this camera, but the crossover of the Jan 1, 2011 seems remove all old pictures. Why? It must be a software bug or something.
I bought my bloggie from HBC Canada, The Bay, in December, 2010.
    My Bloggie has 8GB memory.
Any idea? Do you have the same problem with your Sony Bloggie?

Check to see if you have the full space available on the bloggie - if they really are completely missing then there are many 3rd party file recovery programs out there, some free, that can be used to recover accidentally deleted or corrupted files. In this circumstance you also have to be very careful - to increase the likelihood of being able to recover the photos and video after they have been deleted don't save any new photos, files or data to your bloggie until you've made the recovery attempt.

From your backup that is in iTunes or in iCloud or resync them from your computer.

  • I started using my new iphone 5c before syncing to iCloud and have lost all my messages. Can I get them back? Should I have registered the phone as 'new iphone'?

i got my new iphone a week ago. i started using it straight away, before i knew about icloud and that i could sync all my contacts, etc to the new phone. i then turned on icloud for contacts - this worked fine. today i tried putting my music onto my phone. i clicked 'recognise a B's iphone' in itunes - this has synced music and apps. the only problem is that i have lost all my text messages from the last week. the phone is showing old messages from december 2012 only! can i delete these and get my recent messages back??
    thanks.
    balerina.

You did more than sync the new iPhone with iTunes since syncing with iTunes does not include text messages.
The first time a new iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or set up the device as a new iPhone.
The former replaces all data on the iPhone that is included with the selected backup for the other iPhone or iOS device. The latter does not.
If a backup for your new iPhone was not created with iCloud or if created and has been updated since the backup was transferred from the other iPhone or iOS device, the previous data on the new iPhone is gone.

  • I purchased a new iphone (the 4) and the old phone was the 3.  I used the 4 before syncing the data from the 3. Lost all my data that was stored in the 4! how can I get it back?

    Hi all,
I purchased a iphone 4 and replaced my iphone 3.  I started using the 4 before syncing the 3 because I didn't know how to do this.  I just figured out how to sync and was successful however, I have now lost all data (list of to do's, calendar, photos (etc...) that went on the 4 before the sync.  How can I get the data back?
    Best!
    Suzanne (TribalEnergy)

YOur data maybe gone, unless you did a backup of your phone, which doesn't sound like you did.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod/iphone/ipad:  File>Transfer Purchases

Pictures are designed to be copied off the device regularly as would be done with any digital camera.  There is no logical reason why anyone would fail to do this with supposedly important pictures.
If a recent backup exists, it is also possible to restore the device from the most recent backup, this may restore pictures to the device.  If it does, COPY THEM OFF THE DEVICE IMMEDIATELY for safekeeping.

  • So i have some open work from the night before on my computer and left it on, closed the top, the computer restarted it's self and lost all the work to what was added.....where can i find it....was it auto saved?

so i have some open work from the night before on my computer and left it on, closed the top, the computer restarted it's self and lost all the work to what was added.....where can i find it....was it auto saved?

If the application supported auto-save, yes, if not, then no.
If you were creating a mail message, it might be in the drafts folder of the e-mail program.
What evidence do you have the computer restarted itself?    Did the Apple logo come up?
