Lost all emails

Help. I switched hosts for my website. When entering the new email smtp info and such I deleted the old accounts. When I did this all the emails in my inbox, send mail and even junk disappeared. Where did they go and can I get them back?

I like your Backup Guide pages.
Thanks!
I was planning to buy Time Machine but had read enough "bad stuff" that I was procrastinating.
There's nothing to buy... it's built into the system. Or did you mean a Time Capsule (a wireless base station with hard drive built-in designed to be used with Time Machine)?
I will look into CCC. I will need to purchase a external hard drive. Recommendations?
I've always had good luck with drives purchased from [Other World Computing|http://www.macsales.com>. I've heard bad things here about Western Digital external drives, but have no personal experience with them.

  • I lost all email 6months and older in mac mail. Need Serious Help!

I lost all email 6 months and older in mac mail. In my in-box as a well as all other folders I created. I expected that the mac email software would keep all email as it did for me in when I used to use Outlook. As well I thought I was covered with the Time Machine I have installed. Well.....The Time Machine that I was aggressively encouraged to buy apparently doesn't back up email. If it does, I must need some secret decoder ring to unlock where it is. I need serious help. I lost months of professional and personal data. I need to fix this immediately and find some way to get my email back. Please help.

In March when I upgraded to Lion and iCloud I also experienced a similar problem (cluster of problems) which was solved by a password reset (conforming to new requirements) for my Apple ID. I'm glad to see that many nice people contributed and your primary problem is fixed.  My comment is on your Quicken problem.
Your data inside Quicken 2004 is on borrowed time.  In the process of researching personal budgeting apps I found many reports on the web that indicate Intuit as a company is scaling down Quicken (desktop) development and its future attention to the Mac platform will be minimal.
Did you know that Intuit is behind Mint.com?  You may be hesitant to put your financial data "in the cloud" and I may be being sheepish, but.. bbaaaa, bbaaaaa, the cloud is where it's going.  I know first-hand want a pain in the arse it is to customize an app to your liking.  I spent several hours on Mint.com setting up categories and tagging transactions.  It's tedious. I didn't look because I wasn't a Quicken user, but perhaps Intuit was nice enough to provide a data conversion path for Mint.com.  It is worth a look.
My second suggestion is to scour the web for a hack solution.  You can't be the only person who is facing this problem.  Quicken was very popular.  I just bet someone has posted directions or some code for exporting the Quicken 2004 data and manipulating it for something else.
    Good Luck.

  • 10.7.4 update has duplicated mailboxes & rebuild has lost all emails

Two of my six mailboxes were duplicated after the update, so I deleted the duplicates in mail preferences.
However, the original mailboxes then lost all email content and showed only the headers, so I rebuilt them both and hey presto - instantly lost the entire contents of both mailboxes, including headers. Not happy .
Any ideas for recovering? Have tried hosting server but emails have also gone from there.

ACT FAST: call your email host and see if they have weekly/etc. backups of your data. If it's a small web/email hosting company they should do this.

  • Lost all email gmail deleted by mistake need help thank you

lost all email gmail messages deleted by mistake need help thank you.

Mail 2.x doesn’t store mail in standard mbox format. The only way you might find Mail messages in a “recovered” mbox file is if it was a Mail 1.x file that Mail 2.x left there after the conversion to the new *.emlx format when you upgraded from Mac OS X 10.3 or earlier to Mac OS X 10.4.
If you’re running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and don’t have a backup, what you should have tried to recover are as many *.emlx files as possible. Data Rescue II may be able to do that, but the documentation doesn’t say so. The only data recovery utility that I know for sure can currently recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage.
That said, you may still try to import those mbox files as Other (not as Mail for Mac OS X), and hope that they don’t contain garbage that causes Mail to crash — you may look at their contents with a text editor first to check whether there are actually any emails there.
Beware, however, that anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted *.emlx files to be overwritten if you don’t try to recover them first.

  • Exchange synced and lost all email on MacBook (mail 4.6)

Our company internal server died on Tuesday, internal web mail (exchange) / was a full loss.
I still had all emails and folders on my MacBook & iPad.
We switched to web hosted exchange Friday. Set up the new account to export all emails from MacBook but exchange synced first,I lost all emails & folders etc. (I have a complete set on my iPad still though)
I understand that imap & pop are saved to mail but exchange emails and folders are not. (unless you create a new mailbox, select all, copy and export to a file)
I changed my default mail account to gmail on Tuesday to continue working & I tried to forward exchange emails from my iPad using my gmail account as the default but it sits in the outbox.
I tried to backup with time machine last week but my external is almost full & it won't overwrite.
    Question:
Are the emails still on my MacBook somewhere? Snow leopard 10.6.8
can i recover the lost emails and folders somehow? (mail 4.6)
or export from iPad to the MacBook or exchange? (Without losing them also.)
    Any help would greatly appreciated.

Are the emails still on my MacBook somewhere?
If the mail is still on your computer it would be in your user Library/Mail - your mailboxes are in that folder.
can i recover the lost emails and folders somehow?
Do you have a backup you can restore from?

  • Upgraded to maverick lost all emails?

Upgraded to Maverick and lost all emails? Help!!!!

The mailbox list is divided into categories with headings in caps, such as ON MY MAC. When you hover the cursor over one of those headings (except for MAILBOXES), you should see the word Show or Hide on the right. Click Show. The  MAILBOXES category can't be hidden.
In each category, the mailboxes are arranged in groups, such as Inbox. To the left of each group is a small disclosure triangle. If the triangle points to the right, click it so that it points down.

I'm really disappointed with new 5 update.  No music, No photos, No videos, lost all emails.  Anyone know how to get these all back?  Yes, I have synced and synced and synced.  Help

Hopefully it isn't too late for this but:  before performing an update it is really best if you close all apps (double click the home button, click and hold on one of the apps that appears at the bottom of the phone until the red minus sign appears and then tap the minus sign until all apps are closed) and then turn the phone off by holding the standby button until the slider saying "slide to power off" appears and slide it to turn the phone off.  Then turn the phone back on and hook it up to your computer to sync and perform the upgrade.  This also helps if you do this before performing syncs too.  I had problems with an iPod previously where it would fail to backup before sync most times, but have never had a problem with updates or syncs since I started performing this procedure.  Unfortunately, your pre-update backup may have failed and the data in your apps might be gone, but you could try to restore your phone.  If I remember correctly how to do this, you connect it to your computer and check for updates.  It should say you're up to date, but have an option to restore the phone.  If it does, I'd try that.  It may also have a "restore from backup" option you could try.

  • Lost all email when I deleted email accounts and created new accounts in Thunderbird, this is due to complications changing password. How do I get mail back?

First, I did not do a backup, did not think I needed one, my bad. I recently had to change my passwords in the ISP Server and of course in Thunderbird. There were complications, none of my email clients, both Outlook and Thunderbird on multiple computers, would authenticate the new passwords, in working around them I changed to imap from pop3, then later tried to change back to pop3, did not want to work, so, I deleted all of the accounts and recreated them back under pop3, in that process I seem to have lost all of my mail folders. Is there a way to get them back? I have deleted and recreated accounts before and not had this problem. Thanks in advance for any help.

Your messages might still be there in your Thunderbird profile folder.
You could create a new account and then point to the folder that already exists.
See [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb Profiles TB] for more information.

  • When I restore my IPAD 2 from backup, I lost all Emails. what to do?

Following instruction I restore and reload my Ipad2. Everything seems OK but all emails were gone. Is there a way to recover? This give me no confident that everything can be restore after a hardware failure.

Who said everything can be restored when restoring from the backup?
Email account settings are included with the iPad's backup, but email account mailboxes and messages are not.
Move into the 21st century with email account access - stop using a POP account.
With an IMAP account, all server stored mailboxes and messages remain on the server and will not be lost when deleting and recreating the account if needed, which is what is done when restoring an iOS device from the device's backup. Email accounts are deleted and recreated when doing so.

  • My iPad and iPhone lost all emails. Does the auto backup save them to iCloud??

Is there any way to retrieve them from iCloud? Or does it it only archive mails that use those stupido icloud mails addresses?

S*it. Lost all my customers emails and info from 5 years.... Thought it backed those up. Wonder why it deleted one account mails yesterday from both of my idevices. Rest are intact.
And have limited email space on my emails so uses pop3 and it deletes from server. Only about 5x200mb there *sigh*

  • HT4859 my email account was hacked and ive lost all emails can i restore them from icloud

Not if they've been deleted.  You could check your trash folder to see if they're still there.  If not, they're gone.

  • Mail acting weird and lost all emails yesterday

I live in Australia using the Telstra Bigpond internet services. Bigpond is a POP server (POP3 I think) and is in the process of migrating customers to the IMAP system. I am on the POP system.
I successfully, I thought, installed the Mavericks update and all seemed well until I noticed that when I went to collect my mail from the Bigpond server I would see the progress bar (for the incoming messages) flash quickly across the screen saying "10 of 10" but no messages were in my 'IN BOX'. I checked the Bigpond server and there were none sitting on the server and all had been delivered to my in box - supposedly!.
I thought I would test the outgoing and incoming by sending a test message and 3 of 3 were sent (I only sent one). When the message come back it came back in a flash as 6 of 6 but was not in my inbox at all.
I contacted Apple support (still working with them on this problem) and we made some changes to my junk mail settings and removed all 'Rules' and now the emails are coming in - I have lost a full days emails and don't know if I can get them back so far I can't. The mail program is still stating 3 of 3 incoming when just one message comes in or 4 of 4 when one is sent (the numbers being sent and received bear no relationship to the numbers coming in nor being sent and are completely, it seems, random.
I also have a 'flagged' message inidicated in the flagged box under the 'Inbox' but no message is there at all and I cannot remove the flag.
I have not done any changes to my mail program at all to create this problem that did not exist before I installed Mavericks and I have not attempted to try anything with iCloud mail before I can see a resolution to my laptop mail problems.
For information my 15" macbook pro is compatible with the Mavericks upgrade and I have no other obvious problems at this point that I can identify - Photoshop CS5 seems to be working OK and I have had no problems with the Windows 7 partition (bootcamp) after installing Mavericks. Just Mail at the moment.
Any thoughts on how I can remove the 'flag' for a non existant message and get the incoming and outgoing 'counter' to read accurately?
    Thanks

    Hi Tuttle,
I'm glad you are not experiencing the problem. However, there is NO confusion here - the numbers are random and do NOT represent the incoming or the outgoing numbers of messages as you would normally expect. This morning I got 195 of 195 and got no messages coming in at all! I have been using Macs for more than a decade and this has never happened before. This has only happened for the first time when I changed to Mavericks and is happening on both of my laptops (macbook air and Macbook Pro 15inch) - it is NOT the computer.
"To my eyes, the numbers we see in the Activity pane increase in increments of 1 with each message that is sent or received by a given mail account, starting with "1 of 1" after Mail is launched in any given session"  - of course this is what you would expect to happen.
If the problem doesn't exist for you then your comments, as well intended as they are, are not really going to help - it is a bit like me telling you it is raining outside but you are in a railway tunnel - what rain?  I am grateful for your contribution and interest so please don't take offence. The issue is known to Apple Techs - they tell me that they can see the same thing happening on their computers - and their explanation of why it is happening is somewhat frustrating and definitely not sitting well with me.
I suppose at the end of the day, if I get my emails I should not be too concerned but for those having this experience it is still a bit lame.
    Regards to all....

  • Outlook 2011 for Mac: Lost all emails

    Hello,
I installed Microsoft 2011 for Mac two months ago and I was quite happy with that. Ok, I must say that Outlook often pops up with "Outlook 2011 has encountered a problem and needs to close". This is annoying, but when Outlook is re-opened all runs smoothly. I understand this is a problem with Microsoft, rather than with Mac, so I live with the idea.
The problem here is that when I have opened my Outlook this morning, to my great surprise, I have found out that all my emails have disappeared: nothing in my Inbox, no folders, no Archive, no contacts, no task list, no accounts set... Nothing! Outlook appears as if it is the first time it is used.
As far as I recall, I didn't do anything weird yesterday before shutting down. Luckily, I have a backup dated 17th July (no Archive folders, though), so I have lost just 2 weeks of emails (I'm currently importing that) but still, I would like to know what has happened to my emails and why.
    Anyone can help, please?
Thank you for your consideration and for your help.

Please post Office/Outlook related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software as Apple Communities only provide support for Apple products:

  • Lost all emails from mailboxes (inc. inbox) on 10 April. No backup!

On 10 April I attempted to add an additional email account (not sure how, because a recent upgrade has changed the process of working with accounts). Somehow I managed to lose all the data. I therefore have no history prior to 10 April.  There was seemingly no copy of my mails kept by the service provider and I did not have a back-up.   I have had my hard disk scanned and they could find no trace of any relevant deleted files.  Does anyone know what has happened / how I could recover this data?

Sounds like your email account is a POP account. If so, existing messages in your account's Inbox mailbox (which are stored locally on the iPhone after being downloaded from the incoming mail server) and Sent messages, which are also stored locally on the iPhone, should not have been lost after installing firmware update 3.0. If any lost messages do not remain in the account's Inbox mailbox at the incoming mail server - the messages were not removed from the server when downloaded by the iPhone's mail client or removed from the server when downloaded by another email client if another email client is used to access the account, you can delete and recreate the account on your iPhone. Any received messages that remain in the account's Inbox mailbox at the incoming mail server will be downloaded as new and unread messages after recreating the account as a new email account.

  • ICloud transition lost all email access

    Hi,
I have read a few people are having issues with .mac / .me email once moved over to iCloud. Since my move everything is working fine, except email; this has not been working on Macbook, iPad & iPhone for 3 days now, it's now getting unbearable and I'm ready to throw all devices in the bin unless I know this is going to be fixed! (I'm in the middle of an overseas house sale with everythng on email!)
Has anybody else had no email access for this amount of time and is it just a case of wait even longer?
The main problem seems to be with p99-imap.mail.com.
Any suggestions before I unplug and put to the bin......
    Thanks,
    Nick

I have the same problem. For at least a day now, no email. I was travelling so don't know how long this has been going on. On top of that, my wife and daughter (on the same family account) have no problems. I have contacted Apple, they are reorganising my mailbox but that can take 24 hours they said.
I am a bit sad as well, it has worked for a few days since I migrated it from me to iCloud, but it is unacceptable to be without email for so long time, a useless service and it can cost us all a lot. I have been thinking to reroute all my personal email via gmail (I have a own website/email account that I can reroute to any other adress), since it seems that is working fine for ever. But what stops me is that my wife and daughter have no problems.
I have an appointment with a Genius, next thursday, and I wait till that 'rendez-vous' to decide whether to reroute my mail to gmail.
