i lost all of my folders on the "On MY Computer" section just below my gmail inbox. I am using Outlook for Mac 2011. Can I restore those lost emails and folders?
Did you set up your phone to sync Contacts with iCloud? If not sure, you can log in to https://www.icloud.com and see if your contacts are there.

Can i use time capsule for external h drive and also for time machine?
Can i use time capsule for external h drive and also for time machine?
Hello, vascocaco.
If I understand correctly, you're wondering if you can use your Time Capsule's internal hard disk both for Time Machine backups and as an ordinary drive. Is this your question?
You can, but Time Machine backups may take longer.
To do it, you should partition your Time Capsule's hard disk to create one volume for the backups and one for other files. -
I'm really wanting to make room on my Mac Mini. I have about 70 gb left. I'm not sure what to do. I'm using Time Machine to regularly backup my computer and its already full and deleting older backups. I used to, in the past before Time Machine, just drag and drop files into an external hard drive and empty the file from my computer. Should I follow a similar procedure here? If I have time machine backup up, and I remove all my files from the computer, will Time Machine begin to backup a "clean" machine onto the external drive and begin deleting past backups? What would be the best way to approach my backups, remove all my files from my computer since a variation of them are already on time machine, and not lose viable backups? Thank you.
If you erase the hard disk and you install a new Mac OS X copy, Time Machine will start a new backup and will stop using all backups you made in the past.
One option you have is to reinstall Mac OS X and restore a Time Machine backup, but restoring only some files: for example, instead of restoring everything, restore only your user files, and not your applications, so you will have more free space. Also, doing this, Time Machine will continue backing up to your old backup, because Time Machine will detect that you have "the same computer with the same files and the same Mac OS X version", but it's not.
If you have more questions about Time Machine, see this site > http://pondini.org -
The original user profile on my windows 8.1 pc is C:\Apple\acer sm. I tried changing it to C:\Apple\Apple. After I rebooted my PC, I found out that all my files and applications are lost. What shall I do to recover them?
Your help would save my life. Thank you!Hi AppleMist,
We wonder if you changed the registry entry or path of user profile.
If you did that in registry please try changing it back.
After changing your user profile and reboot, system won’t read the profile you changed but a new user profile (C:\Apple\acer sm or TEMP) should be created by system. Try renaming this new one as acer sm.old and changing the apple back to acer sm.
It should works fine if you didn’t change file in profile, if it doesn’t work perform a system restore.
Regards
D. Wu

My iPhone lost all files and the screen won't turn on
I was using my iphone not suddenly all filies have been removed and the screen won't turn on and the phone is charged
How do you know all files have been removed if the screen won't turn on?
You can try a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up. -
Can I use the same hard drive to back up my photos and also do Time Machine backups?
I bought a 1T external hard drive today for my MacBookPro with the intentions of backing up my iPhoto library, and then deleting it to make more space on my hard drive.
I also tried and failed to install Time Capsule because my Verizon modem won't let Time Capsule run with it unless I use Time Capsule as my wireless.
That said, I want to back up my computer, and even though I copied my iPhoto library already, I have plenty of space to do a Time Machine backup as well.
Is this something I can do? Please let me know. After two hours on the phone with Apple only to learn Time Capsule was a waste of money, I'm hoping I don't need to buy another external HD yet…If you want to use the drive for both TimeMachine and storage, attach the drive and then open Finder > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Choose the new hard drive from the left sidebar, and then in the main panel choose Partition.
Choose the number of partitions to be two. Click the first partition and change the size if you do not want the default half of the drive. Name the partition (such as Backups), then accept the default format Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) and the partition table as GUID. Click Apply and confirm you want to erase the drive.
Then do the same for the second partition, but of course, give it a different name.
When finished Quit Disk Utility.
Turn ON TimeMachine in System Preferences and direct it to your backup partition. -
Can I partition a 1tb hard drive and also run time machine on that hard drive
I have a 1TB external hard drive which s currently running for Time machine only.
I was hoping to be able to partition the EHD so that 500GB would be for the Time Machine side and the other 500GB would be used as an ecternal storage [ a friend of mine has just lent me a 250gb hard drive with a load of tv series which i want to be able to copy].
Can anyone tell me if this is possible and if so how do i do it.
I know that Time Machine is running now but I don't mind starting all over again.Yes it is possible, but it is generally not a good idea. That being said, if you decide to use the EHD for another purpose, partitioning it is the best solution. How big is your internal HD? It is recommended for a TM partition to be 2X as large as your internal drive, and it must be at least the size of your internal HD in order to be used.
In order to partition:
1) Connect the EHD
2) Open Disk Utility and select the drive
3) Click the "partition" tab and drag the original partition to its desired size.
4) Click "Apply" to create the secondary partition.
Resizing the TM partition will not erase it. -
HELP !My laptop is died Ive used recovery disc which restored it but ive lost my music but it isstil on my ipod how can i put it back in itunes library without syncing + losing it all?
Transfer iTunes' purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
Tranfer other stuff by using the info in this previous discusssion.

After you get the stuff in your iTunes library you may have to let iTunes erase the iPod and replace it s contents with what is now in your iTunes library. -
HT204382 how can i upload from my touch back to my mac lost all files and i dont want to lose music
help
I believe it is due to copyright issues, but regardless, Apple does not make uploading from the ipod to your computer possible out of the box. There are freeware applications out there, like on Version Tracker, that will do this. The easiest solution to the question you posed is to simply import the desired CDs into your itunes library, then sync.
Secondly, this question is better suited to the ipod forum.
Hope this helps,

Aim to process all files in folders on desktop to run through photoshop and save in multiple locations
Part one:-
Gather information from desktop to get brand names and week numbers from the folders
Excluding folders on desktop beginning with "2" or "Hot"
Not sure about the list of folders
but I have got this bit to work with
set folderPath to "Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Desktop:DIVA_WK30_PSD" --<<this would be gained from the items on the desktop
set {oldTID, my text item delimiters} to {my text item delimiters, ":"}
set folderName to last text item of folderPath
set my text item delimiters to "_WK"
set FolderEndName to last text item of folderName
set brandName to first text item of folderName
set my text item delimiters to "_PSD"
set weekNumber to first text item of FolderEndName
set my text item delimiters to oldTID
After running this I have enough information to create folders in multiple locations, (i need to know where they are so that photoshop can later save them in those multiple locations
So I need the following folders created
Locally
Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012:"WK" + weekNumber
Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012:"WK" + weekNumber: brandName
Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012:"WK" + weekNumber: brandName: brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_LR" --(Set path for Later)PathA
Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012:"WK" + weekNumber: brandName: brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_HR"--(Set path for Later)PathB
Network
Volumes:GEN:Brands:Zoom:Brands - Zoom:Upload Photos:2012:"Week" + weekNumber
Volumes:GEN:Brands:Zoom:Brands - Zoom:Upload Photos:2012:"Week" + weekNumber:brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_LR" --(Set path for Later)PathC
Volumes:GEN:Website_Images --(no need to create folder just set path)PathD
FTP (Still as a normal Volume) So like another Network
Volumes:impulse:"Week" + weekNumber
Volumes:impulse:"Week" + weekNumber:Brand
Volumes:impulse:"Week" + weekNumber:Brand:brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_LR" --(Set path for Later)PathE
Volumes:impulse:"Week" + weekNumber:Brand:brandName + "_WK" + weekNumber + "_HR" --(Set path for Later)PathF
I like to think that is end of Part 1
Part 2
Take the images (PSD's) from those folders relevant to the Brand then possibly run more applescript that opens flattens and then saves it in the locations above.
For example….
An image in folder DIVA_WK30_PSD will then run an applescript in Photoshop, lets call it DivaProcessImages within this we then save to PathA, PathB, PathC, PathD, PathE, PathF the folder path of C should therefore look like this
Volumes:GEN:Brands:Zoom:Brands - Zoom:Upload Photos:2012:Week30:DIVA_WK30_LR and of course save the image as original filename.
Then from the next folder
An image in folder Free_WK30_PSD will then run an applescript in Photoshop, lets call it FreeProcessImages within this we then save to PathA, PathB, PathC, PathD, PathE, PathF the folder path of C should therefore look like this
Volumes:GEN:Brands:Zoom:Brands - Zoom:Upload Photos:2012:Week30:Free_WK30_LR and of course save the image as original filename.
The photoshop applescript i'm hoping will be easier as it should be a clearer step by step process without any if's and but's
Now for the coffee!!Hi,
MattJayC wrote:
Now to the other part, where each folder was created (and those that already existed) how do I set them as varibles?
For example,
set localBrandFolder_High_Res to my getFolderPath(brandName & "_WK" & weekNumber & "_HR", localBrandFolder)
This line was used to create more than one folder as it ran though the folders on the desktop. The next part is I will need to reference them to save files to them.
You can use a records
Examples
if you want the path of localBrandFolder_High_Res of "Diva", if "Diva" is the second folder of the Desktop
You get the path with this : localBrandFolder_High_Res of record 2 of myRecords
if you want the path of localWeekFolder in the first folder of the Desktop
You get the path with this : localWeekFolder of record 1 of myRecords
Here is the script
set myRecords to {}
set dtF to paragraphs of (do shell script "ls -F ~/Desktop | grep '/' | cut -d'/' -f1")
repeat with i from 1 to number of items in dtF
set this_item to item i of dtF
if this_item does not start with "2_" and this_item does not start with "Hot" then
try
set folderPath to this_item
set {oldTID, my text item delimiters} to {my text item delimiters, ":"}
set folderName to last text item of folderPath
set my text item delimiters to "_WK"
set FolderEndName to last text item of folderName
set brandName to first text item of folderName
set my text item delimiters to "_PSD"
set weekNumber to first text item of FolderEndName
set my text item delimiters to oldTID
end try
try
set this_local_folder to "Hal 9000:Users:matthew:Pictures:2011-2012"
set var1 to my getFolderPath("WK" & weekNumber, this_local_folder)
set var2 to my getFolderPath(brandName, var1)
set var3 to my getFolderPath(brandName & "_WK" & weekNumber & "_LR", var2)
set var4 to my getFolderPath(brandName & "_WK" & weekNumber & "_HR", var2)
--set up names to destination folders and create over Netwrok including an already exisiting folder
set this_Network_folder to "DCKGEN:Brands:Zoom:Brand - Zoom:Upload Photos:2012:"
set var5 to my getFolderPath("WK" & weekNumber, this_Network_folder)
set var6 to my getFolderPath(brandName, var5)
set var7 to my getFolderPath(brandName & "_WK" & weekNumber & "_LR", var6)
set website_images to "DCKGEN:Website_Images:"
--set up names to destination folders and create over Netwrok for FTP collection (based on a mounted drive)
set this_ftp_folder to "Impulse:"
set var8 to my getFolderPath("Week" & weekNumber, this_ftp_folder)
set var9 to my getFolderPath(brandName, var8)
set var10 to my getFolderPath(brandName & "_WK" & weekNumber & "_LR", var9)
set var11 to my getFolderPath(brandName & "_WK" & weekNumber & "_HR", var9)
set end of myRecords to ¬
{localWeekFolder:var1, localBrandFolder:var2, localBrandFolder_Low_Res:var3, localBrandFolder_High_Res:var4, networkWeekFolder:var5, networkBrandFolder:var6, networkBrandFolder_Low_Res:var7, ftpWeekFolder:var8, ftpBrandFolder:var9, ftpBrandFolder_Low_Res:var10, ftpBrandFolder_High_Res:var11}
end try
end if
end repeat
localBrandFolder_High_Res of record 2 of myRecords -- get full path of localBrandFolder_High_Res in the second folder of Desktop
on getFolderPath(tName, folderPath)
tell application "Finder" to tell folder folderPath
if not (exists folder tName) then
return (make new folder at it with properties {name:tName}) as string
else
return (folder tName) as string
end if
end tell
end getFolderPath -
my computer broke and i lost all files including ITunes. what happens to all the stuff purchased already. will this appear in itues when i download it agian? how can i save the music on my ipod and transfere it over to the new itunes?
Unfortunely, all movies and songs purchased in iTunes will be lost...you'll have to purchase them again! Any applications you've purchased, you can download again for free.
Music Rescue is a program you can use to transfer any and all data (music, movies, pictures..) from your iPod to your computer, and iTunes.

I recently thought I was updating my Safari browser. When completed, I put all those little files that were on the desktop into the trash. Now my trash is saying it can't be emptied because there are locked files and I don't know how to unlock them or get them out of my trash and they keep multiplying. And to make matters worse, I tried renaming them as pdf files thinking that might do the trick.
oh boy ! I'd ask you if you knew what kind of files they were or where they came from, but I don't think you could help me a bunch. Try going to the Utilities folder and running Disk Utilities. If you want to empty the Trash and it won't empty, go to the finder and choose "secure Empty trash". Worse case scenario-you may have to reinstall Snow Leopard, but I don't know what else to suggest. If you have a DVD of Snow Leopard, boot up from that, and reinstall the OS. This will not touch the stuff you have on your Hard Drive, then you can update from 10.6 to 10.6.8, otherwise Onyx? Maybe those files are part of the OS which needs them to keep running. if you hold down the Shift key on reboot, you can reboot in Safe mode and maybe you can take the files out of the trash that way
good luck
