My 1st geno Apple TV hard drive crashed. Ive lost all my media that was purchased from iTunes. I want It back. I attempted to backup to my laptop and the thing would just time out. Who do I contact and how at Apple? I tried express lane and they sent me back here. So frustrated.

You purchase one and only one download. It is your responsibility to copy/move/backup your content.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

I have tried to make it recognized by SL but to no avail. And then I tried to use IceClean to show all the hidden files and in fact there are .DS_Store and .thumbnails in the folder. I think you have to ask your friend to download IceClean to show all the hidden files and then you have to copy these 2 files as well and paste in your Library. I believe by default, Copy All will not copy the hidden files. You have to make it appears in order to copy it
I'm not sure it will work or not but no harm trying.

AppleTV lost all media

I have owned my Apple TV (1st generation) since they were 1st introduced. Mysteriously when I sync my TV, or choose not to sync, all or some of my music disappears on the TV. I want to just put my ding-dang music on my ATV hard drive and have it stay there without these painfully long syncs, or deletions. I noticed there was an older LONG thread with this same title, so I am not alone.
What's a guy gotta do to make this simple?

I came home tonight and started ripping some CDs into iTunes. My Apple TV appeared in the list of devices and started syncing. This is normal behavior.
After ten minutes, however, it was still syncing. I only added one album to my iTunes library since the night before, so this was unusual. Curious to see what was being synced, I expanded the right-arrow for my Apple TV. Strangely, there were no playlists. Clicking on "Music" revealed no tracks. The "Summary" view said my Apple TV was empty. I had a colorless storage meter. No audio. No video. Nothing.
I went over to the Apple TV itself and flipped through "My Music" to see what was there. Despite what iTunes was telling me, it appeared as though my library was still on the Apple TV. The album artwork, however, wasn't showing. I tried to play a track or two, but playback stuttered badly. I stopped the music. This took several attempts because the Apple TV was sluggish to respond. At this time, album artwork started coming back.
Rebooting the Apple TV was the next thing I tried. As soon as it was up and running, the syncing started again. I'm about 10% done with around 90GB to go.
I updated to Apple TV 3.0 and iTunes 9.0.2 last week. It's been working just fine all this time. The only substantial change I've made recently was to the security settings on my wireless network. After this change, I had to join the Apple TV to my wireless network again. This was a few days ago. I can't see how it would trigger a complete resync.
This is annoying. I hope it doesn't happen again.

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from your phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are replacing your computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on your own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:

Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes(under the edit menu if using Windows).
2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
3. Connect your phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
4. Store>Authorize this computer.
5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
7. Right click again and select backup.
8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding your contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

If you have a backup to an external hard disk, then install iTunes and place the backup of C:\users\????\Music\iTunes back into that folder. If you need to redownload old purchases, then go into iTunes and go store -> purchased -> download previous purchases and that will at least get you what you bought from Apple. If you could elaborate on what kind of crash, I might be able to recommend a few other things, but that would be less Apple support and more data recovery.

Hi, I quitted Safari and press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously unti the Ipad turn off and on with the logo Apple appears but it has hanged on and fixed to the point. I do it again hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously and the Ipad turn off and on again with the Apple logo but it still is hanged on the same point. I think my Ipad is fault now. I guess I must connect it to the computer with itune, or something. So my case is this: at the moment everytime I hold the Home and Sleep buttons the Ipad always off and reappear with the Apple logo and be hanged on (like the pic), and I need restoring my Ipad Safari bookmarks... so I guess I need using Itune or something to get back the Ipad then using Icloud or blah. Are you sharing the same iCloud account (in Settings>iCloud)? And do you both have Contacts turned to On in Settings>iCloud?

Looks like you restored your backup file to her phone. If you didn't back up your wife's phone first, then the data is gone, sorry.

If you have a Mac, it's pretty easy. But you don't (should I make a pitch for you to get a MacBook Pro in the future)?

I am so sorry that I ever signed up for iCloud. The only thing that ever worked is that I had two messages drop into iCloud when there was an open wifi connection. It is synced with Yahoo. It was taking up so much space as I had a lot of attachments, nothing sent, they just sat there, I had to cut and paste them into my Yahoo! account and send them.
Last nigth were were looking at the reason that my brand new Mac Air had ZERO memory. It was the iCloud messages that were stuck. I then went in and deleted everything. I have tried to turn iCloud off via a pull down menu. Did not work. I have now lost all of my sent and received messages in my Yahoo Account. My inbox is completely empty. I believe I still have sent messages though. These were messages that I had cut and pasted into Yahoo! to get them sent. Now my Yahoo! is wiped out.
I am a writer. I need those messages recovered. I am an end user. I need instructions in English on how to recover this. If there is anyone that can help me, I am desparate. I imagine Apple could retrieve them for me though there is no where to contact them.

I was just at the Genius Bar in Chicago and they said, don't worry about it. It just floats out there, however, I can not recover my messages on a flash drive. I need to go back to my old computer which I don't have with me. My messages were in folders for a lawsuit. It is going to take an incredible amount of work for me to, you have no Idea. We are talking thousands of pages! I the defendent will have them during discovery so I am not so worried. All it is supposed to show up as in Windows is an image device.

Your iOS device backup only includes data and settings stored on your device. It doesn’t include data already stored in iCloud, for example contacts, calendars, bookmarks, mail messages, notes, shared photo albums, iCloud Photo Library beta, My Photo Stream, and documents you save in iCloud using iOS apps and Mac apps.
