Lost all my Disk Space
Hope someone can help me..
Working on my mac this evening and all of a sudden get a popup telling me I'm running out of disk space!!. I have 233GB disk on my mac and I've nothing in the trash. I've run disk util and repaired permissions etc, but to no sucess. I've used 'whats my size" and that shows I have 73GB of files, and yet Get info on the disk tells me i've only 2.7Gb spare... Any idea what's going on or what's eaten my disk space?? Any help greatfully received!!
One thing that i use to clean out my hard drive once in a while is an app called Disk Inventory X. It puts all of your files into a visual format. If a file is very big, it shows up as a large square. If a file is very small, it shows up as a very tiny square. I hope you get the idea, I'm bad at explaining things. But heres the link, you really should give this a try. I freed up 20GB on my hard drive with this thing the other day. http://www.derlien.com/. Make sure you download the intel version if you have an intel mac. I hope this helps.

Lost all my HDD space after cancelling partition!
Short Story...Ive lost all my HDD space after cancelling partition, i had 1TB now i only have 13gb
Long story...I installed parraeles desktop 8, went to install windows 7, it said i only had 60gb free, went to disk utility to try and partition to 150gb but only allowed me to partition 50:50 for unknown reason, i began the partition and then cancelled it as i wanted to try and only allow 150gb for windows 7, now it does not show partition at all, and says i only have 13gb free!!!
PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!!!!
Running OXs 10.8.2Do you have a Time Machine backup of your system, if not make one. Then go back into disk utility and delete the partition you just made. To install Windows 7 via Parallels Desktop 8 you don't need to partition your hard drive the program takes care of the entire install.

Some MSI notebooks do not have all hard disk space assigned
Follow the attached guide to allocate all hard disk space.

I was loading some pictures onto my macbook and the photos did not load properly. I have around 4,200 current photos. There is 29 GB left on my hard drive. I can not see the last "event" of photos. Looking through preview I see some on my last photos and some are there but do not show up in iphoto. Now I am getting an error message that states I do not have enough disk space therefore the library is not saving. I am now locked out of downloading files from safari, or even itunes.
I am lost as to what to do next. please send me in the right direction. thank you!
Welcome to the Apple forums:
Are you referring to the TimeMachine harddrive?
If you are referring to your internal drive, you may get more information in the Leopard Install and Setup forum:
http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1219
In general you need to have at the very minimum, 10% or your HD free. Your drive may be completely full, depending on how large it is, which you don't say. The amount of freespace on an HD varies as the system swaps files on and off of it.
Be sure you have everything backed up, just in case. -
What can be done so that these files do not eat up all the disk space.
Dear Adviser
This is NOT a bug report or an enhancement request.
We are looking for advice on a customer support call.
We are using iPlanet Webserver 4.1 SP7 and iPlanet Directory
Server 4.12 on Solaris 2.8.
We are checking to see if there is any engineering
documentation or quick pointers on LDAP database file
sizes and cache file sizes that may relate to a
reported problem.
Thank you for your time and co-operation in advance.
We have been working on a TIBCO/Portal Builder customer
issue that does not seem to have guidance in end
user documentation. This is related to a significant
increase in LDAP and cache file sizes (which at this
point do NOT seem to affect any performance). Is this
something that you are aware of from your QA/performance
tests? The problem seems to have suddenly cropped
up and we are attempting to isolate the triggerring event.
We started with the possibility that it is
a. Solaris Platform issue
OR
b. LDAP issue
We have done several experiments to isolate specific
issues as described below. We have researched
Sun/iPlanet web site and technical sites on the net.
Currently, we believe that the LDAP database size is increasing
because the Portal has been configured with pages
that have a lot of "Personalized" panes. Users are visiting
these pages, and getting automatically subscribed to these
panes, which add corresponding entries in the LDAP server.
Please find below the listing of all the files (from LDAP
DB directory) which are growing very fast. Kindly advise what can be
done so that these files do not eat up all the disk space.

Tibco SupportThis may be perfectly normal behavior for the LDAP server. If some application is adding a lot of data to the server, the database will necessarily grow. You can look at the access log to find out the IP address of the client, the BIND dn of the client, and the operations from that client. Perhaps this will help you narrow down the culprit.

Hi ,
We have set up WSUS Server 3.2 on Windows server 2008 R2 and set the Disk size as 80 GB. The WSUSContents folder is taking away all the disk space and as a result WSUS Server stopped working.
Details:
1. There are no other languages selected other than English.
2.There are no Downstream servers configured.
3.Server cleanup wizard runs for 10 seconds and it shows the below report .
4. Is there any script available to purge the WSUS database?
India1947The WSUSContents folder is taking away all the disk space and as a result WSUS Server stopped working.
You need to perform additional administration on the server other than just running the Server Cleanup Wizard. Running the wizard with no other administration will accomplish nothing of significance.
Removing unneeded update approvals
Of course, running out of room on the disk drive may well have corrupted the database, at which point the only reliable means of recovery is to install a NEW instance of WSUS with a fresh database.

Hi ,
We have Windows server 2008R2 X64. server and we have configured WSUS Server 3.2. The WSUSContents folder is taking away all the disk space and there is no space left . As a result WSUS stopped working.
We used WSUS Server cleanup Wizard, but it is not able to reduce the size of this folder.
Is there anyway we can purge the WSUS database? is there any script to run?
Thanks a ton in advance for the help.

Temp file takes up all free disk space
I noticed that my hard drive started losing disk space. There is a tmp file created in /var/tmp that eats up all the hard drive space until a message starts appearing saying no disk space available. The last two times the file was 945.tmp and 400.tmp. A reboot usually deletes the file but it seems that when the AD connection is lost too. Any ideas?

Safari 4.01 consumes all free disk space
I submitted this as a Safari bug report
Occasionally [and irregularly] when Safari is running _all free disk space is consumed_. The location of the current page or number of tabs does not matter.
For example, I have the Activity Monitor window below Safari with the "Space Free" line exposed. While I was typing this note the value changed from 59.91 GB to 13.78 GB - then back again.
*It does not matter if Safari has input focus - it only needs to be running to exhibit the problem.*Mac OS X can open pdf files fine without Adobe's bloatware, they open by default in TextEdit - the whole of OS X's display system is actually based around pdf technology so it's easy for the system to integrate pdf tools. There are alternative tools available on MacUpdate but for reading TextEdit is fine.
wmv files should be opened with the Flip4Mac Quicktime plugin, Microsoft no longer support their own player on Mac and even supply the F4M plugin from their own download pages.
For Stuffit files (which are thankfully much rarer these days) I'd use The Unarchiver instead of Allume's fat cat.
To fix the other problem you could try changing your download location in Safari preferences, General - it may be that the location you are downloading to has the problem. You can pick anywhere you like just to test it out. -
Not all free disk space available for windows partition in Boot Camp
Hi,
I want to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp on my MacBook (2009, Mavericks OS, BootCamp Assistant 5.1.2) and unfortunately it has been a huge struggle until now to achieve that. The whole reason for this is that I had Windows XP as the second OS on my MacBook, but I wanted to increase the Windows partition with Disk Utility. Unfortunately this permanently damaged my Windows partition so I couldn't use it anymore.
What I did next? I decided to delete the old Windows XP (which isn't supported anymore by Mavericks) with Disk Utility, which afterwards tells me that I have 1 partition left: The Mac partition.
From there on I wanted to install Windows 7 with the newer Boot Camp. The problem is that in fact Finder tells me that my Macintosh HD has 58,54 Gb free space, so I would like to assign at lease 30 Gb to the to-be Windows partition. However, Boot Camp only gives me the option to assign 20 until 24 Gb, other values I can't assign.
Can anyonetell me why this happens or what could be the problem? I need to have more than 24 Gb available for my Windows as this was the whole reason why I once wanted to increase my old Windows partition, that's where all the problems came from.
I appreciate your help, thank you!
Here is what Disk Utility tells about my partitions:TTBOMK the only way you can increase the Windows partition is to repartition the drive back to a single partition
Then reinstall Mountain Lion
Restore all data from backup
Create new larger partition with Boot Camp
Install Windows
Restore data from backup

Sql Server 2012:Full Text Catalog taking up all the disk space
We have created full text catalog and index for a pretty large table. The column on which the index is being created has a datatype of varchar(max). The problem started as soon as we started populating the catalog. It almost grew to 835GB and Population
status stuck to "Processing Notification". I think is status code 9 which corresponds with
the "Change tracking" status in the SQL. It gets stuck in this status almost for ever.
Is there a way to deal with this huge catalog size, may be shrink it or move it to a different location.
Is switching off Change Tracking going to improve the situation.
Any help regarding this will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
SaikatHello,
There could be considerable amount of indexes on that catalog and the effect of the merge over them. Try the index size property of
the following function:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ms190370(v=sql.110).aspx
Hope this helps.

ITunes Library.itl file vanished, my solution cost me 20GB of disk space
I have a G4 PowerBook running OSX 10.5.8 with iTunes 10.6.3. Yesterday when I opened iTunes it said it needed to create an iTunes Library.itl file. When it was done most of my music and playlists did not show in iTunes. I restored a day-old iTunes folder, with the .itl file, from my time machine backup and everything worked. But, where I previously had 89GB available on my drive I now have only 68GB available. I have no idea where the extra 20GB is. I did a complete erase and restore and all is fine but I still have only 68GB available. The Time Machine backup was from before the errors and it shows 89GB available. Can anyone point me to where I might have lost 21GB of disk space?
Thank you,I originally got the same error as shown at the start of this thread:

Disk space used much larger than actual files
I noticed this morning that Terminal was giving a warning about running out of swap space, which I thought was odd, as /var/vm was only at around ~10GB, but later when I tried to install some updates, I noticed that it said I only had 1.8MB free on my hard drive. I ran a df -h and it showed %iused at 100%. I immediately deleted some logs to free up a few megabytes of space and started hunting for what could have been hogging all my disk space, I seem to remember having 60GB free last time I checked. I was deleting a few small files, when I noticed this
bash-4.2# du -h -d 1
6.2M ./.DocumentRevisions-V100
584K ./.fseventsd
583M ./.Spotlight-V100
0B ./.Trashes
31G ./Applications
2.1M ./bin
20K ./cache
3.8G ./data
5.0K ./dev
34M ./Developer
1.3M ./EFI
1.0K ./home
8.9G ./Library
1.0K ./net
0B ./Network
185M ./opt
12G ./private
1.5M ./sbin
0B ./Shared Items
4.1G ./System
52G ./Users
4.9G ./usr
4.0K ./Volumes
117G
So apparently, according to du, I am only using 117GB of my hard drive. I immediately ran this
bash-4.2# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity iused ifree %iused Mounted on
/dev/disk1 297Gi 283Gi 14Gi 96% 74220526 3630455 95% /
devfs 200Ki 200Ki 0Bi 100% 692 0 100% /dev
map -hosts 0Bi 0Bi 0Bi 100% 0 0 100% /net
map auto_home 0Bi 0Bi 0Bi 100% 0 0 100% /home
So my question is how is it that all of my files combined are using 117GB, including swap, but according to df, Disk Utility and Finder I am using 283GB? I am using FileVault 2, if that helps
Here's some more data
bash-4.2# diskutil cs list

The other Internal hard drive is the core storage physical volume, already mounted, mounted in the image. Recovery HD is the 650MB system recovery partition.
I rebooted to the recovery partition and used Disk Utility to verify the volume, it said everything checked out alright.
In disk utility, the top entry has this data
Name : Internal Hard Drive Capacity : 319.21 GB (319,213,174,784 Bytes)
Type : Logical Volume Group Available : 16.8 MB (16,777,216 Bytes)
Disk Status : Online Used : 319.2 GB (319,196,397,568 Bytes)
However the other entry, right below it has this
Mount Point : / Capacity : 318.88 GB (318,877,626,368 Bytes)
Format : Encrypted Logical Partition Available : 202.18 GB (202,175,160,320 Bytes)
Owners Enabled : Yes Used : 116.7 GB (116,702,466,048 Bytes)
Number of Folders : 241,519 Number of Files : 1,246,454
So I guess the reboot fixed my problem, df -h now shows 37% used, but the logical vomume group still shows only 16MB free. Anyways, things seem to be working now. -
I really hope someone can help me please?
I have a 16GB iPad and have created a really nice wedding DVD for my sister. It consists of about 20 mins worth of video clips and 25 mins of images set to music with movement between slides etc. I have cleared absolutely everything off that's possible from my memory and I can't seem to get the iMovie project off my iPad! My storage says that 8.7GB is taken up by iMovie and I've deleted all photos from my camera roll as iMovie can run the project without them, it doesn't cope without the video clips though (tried that!)
I hve now tried exporting to iTunes and it says I don't have enough disk space - I don't understand how it can't just lift the project off my iPad without having to consume yet more storage? I have also tried exporting to camera roll trying 1080pHD - too big. It started on the 710pHD and got all the way through exporting (around 30 mins) and then at the end told me I didn't have enough disk space. Funnily enough, iMovie was only taking up around 6GB of space prior to this, so it's storing this failed attempt to export some how but I can't see how I can get rid of that.
I am heartbroken that I've spent three months doing this and now can't transport it from my iPad by seeminly any means possible. I don't want to just give up. I've seen other threads that say 'go to my computer and look in the DCIM folder and it's there... but it's not. All the video clips are there but not the actual project.
Any help anyone can give would be so much appreciated. Is there a way I can do this without essentially having to give up on apple products and buy some video editing software for my PC. Which isn't a MAC by the way. As you can tell, I was hoping to screen this movie on Christmas day for the family :-(
JessicaAre any of your apps video players? Some app store apps contain a file you can't see which saves logs of everything you do. Say if you have had an iPhone for 4 months and watched 50 videos with a video player these 50 videos may have been copied to the log file inside the application and may be what is using up all your disk space. Delete all video player applications from your iPhone.
If that doesn't solve the problem copy the photos to your computer and restore your iPhone with iTunes back to factory settings and when you have restored DO NOT "restore from back up" because that might restore whatever is causing the problem instead DO "set up as new iPhone". Once you've set up your iPhone sync apps, books music, photos...etc back to the device.
