Lost all my playlists and some music - how to restore?

I'm running itunes on XP and when I booted iTunes today, all my playlists were missing and lots of music.
I don't know of any major crashes or problems with my maching, but the music is gone from iTunes. I went to "mycomputer" and actually found all the tunes, but iTunes cannot find them, and of course, I lost all the playlists. (I've got multiple playlists for each family member and 2 bands in which I play....)
Any ideas on how to restore the playlists and tunes? Why won't iTunes find the music that is actually in the iTunes music folder? I know i could probably drag all the tunes into iTunes again, and then make new playlists but it would take a lot of organizing......grrr
Also, I have almost everything saved on my iPod. Is there some way i can transfer it all back to iTunes from my iPod?

If your messages and photos weren't part of your backup, then they're gone.
Certainly you weren't foolish enough to update the iOS on your phone before importing your photos off your phone for safe keeping on your computer like you would do with any digital camera, were you?

Lost playlists (and some music) when I upgraded

I just upgraded to iTunes 7.1. When I finished and launched, all of my playlists and some of my music had disappeared. They are still on my iPod, but I don't know if I can synch from the ipod to iTunes. Please help--I don't want to recreate everything from scratch!

To am seeing the same with my PC, I updated a playlist last night and was going to burn a cd today, but my playlists and library are gone. They are still in my music, but like you, I do not want to try and recreate all my playlists. I tried system restore to no avial. Waiting for someone smarter than I!!!

Unless your photos were backed up somewhere, they're gone. They were wiped off your phone when you restored it from your wife's data.

If you synced your photos and video to a computer (as you should do to store this data off a device), then you can sync them back to the device using itunes. Otherwise you are at the mercy of a backup, if you ever made one. Many users have lost photos and videos when performing a restore from icloud. You may be one of them. However if previously you used photo stream to sync photos to other devices, then you may still have them there. Turn on photo stream on the iPad 2 to get them back. Video, however, does not work on photo stream.

When you opened your new Version of Aperture you probably created a new, empty Aperture Library.
Do you remember where your original Aperture Library is located? Usually it resides in your "Pictures" folder, and is named something.aplibrary. If you do not remember where it is, search with Spotlight for ".aplibrary".
Quit Aperture, if it is running, then select your old Aperture Library and double click it to open it. This will launch Aperture on your correct library, and you should see all your projects and albums again.

My issue is just with itunes....not my ipod... Ive been afraid to plug my ipod in to charge it incase it automatically sincs with the Itunes I have now on my new computer since this itunes is empty of my purchased songs and self made playlists. They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

Using the phone as strongly recommended by Apple, you've been synching your contacts with Address Book, Outlook or a Cloud Service. Just synch your contacts back from whichever of these sources you've been using....

There was some sort of power failure and all the computers in my office turned off. When we turned them back on all were fine except one which had its Mail reset and all of the inboxes had been wiped.
How do I retrieve them? It's vital I have access to past emails.

Lost all my edits and some folders on conversion in 1.1!

Help! I have to be doing something wrong. After the conversion to 1.1, (library to catalog)all my previous edits (in xmp) except for one folder are gone. Also lightroom decided to only give me about half of the folders in my database! Windows xp, P4 HT 2g of ram. Actually worked great in version 1.0
Add to this the fact that it is now ten times slower than before, and I think I'm screwed! Can anyone tell me what to do? I have weeks of work in those edits.

I hesitate to try to answer since there are lots of worms in the can you opened, but here goes.
1. One thing that would be helpful for anyone trying to answer is your system hardware configuration.
2. Have you tried to Synchronize Folders? That may help in finding your data.
3. When you say you opened the Lightroom library in Explorer [some assumptions here] did you actually open the database?
4. If you didn't open the database [btw, I wouldn't do that unless you really are comfortable with working with sQLite] what did you mean by open the library. Was whatever you were looking at a 1.1 db?
5. Ref Q1, do you have only one HD?
6. Have you tried this more than once? Unfortunately, Windows can and does make mistakes and the answer is try at least twice before giving up.
See what I mean about worms. Lots of the answers will lead to more questions.

I have just updated my IPADs OS to 6.1.2 this caused it to crash and i had to do a restore on the IPAD. Now some of the apps that i have will not reinstall directly from my computer. living in a country with a slow internet, uploading from the cloud is painfully slow. Is there some way to get around this

also must mention i have never had trouble that i couldn't fix on itunes but all of this has started since i have been using icloud for basic backups hope this helps solve problem

Lost all my data while installing os4, how to restore?

iTunes performed a backup for about 12 hours when I tried to install the new os4. After the installation was completed, it asked me to type the password for the backup to be restored. What password? I hadn't entered any password for the backup. So I went to the apps tabs and restored the apps. Then I tried to restore again and BIG SURPRISE, the 12 hour backup was no more there. There was only a backup of the new empty iPhone.
I even looked at C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup but there are only backups of the new one and not the 12 hour one.
WHERE CAN I FIND MY DATA????

yeah... did all that... latest version is iTunes, backup before installing os4... didn't interrupt anything. OS updated juuuuust fine. Data, did I actually have data on my iPod? Apparently not. I only thought I'd been entering things for the past many months.
All my apps were there from the start after the upgrade, but zero data for anything. **** thing can't even find my own wireless network. Restore from backup only offered contacts and a couple other normal iTunes things - made no mention of actual app data and restored nothing else. What's the point of the backup if all your app data can simply go away?
Anybody have any bright ideas past starting to enter data again? Is there a way to actually back up app data or is that just oh well area...

Unfortunately Firefox Sync isn't meant to be used as a backup device, but merely to sync data between multiple devices. So it is not guaranteed that you can restore data from the Sync server.
