Lost all photos installing Lion but see photos on another drive

I installed Lion and when complete there were a small number of icons on dock. Didn't see iPhoto, Aperture, iDisk, and other apps purchased in the past. I then thought I could use Time Machine to recover something but it was empty. Will make a long story short. I reinstalled iPhoto and used Spotlight to find OLD photos and music. Can someone help me restore my iPhoto photos by dragging and dropping a file to Lion iPhoto? How about the same thing for Aperture? Finally, how about a drag/drop for iTunes (if not off subject).
Not a power user and would appreciate any assistance?

I doubleclicked it and iPhoto opened and all photos present. Then I just closed everything. Don't know how to point or load or get photos into Lion iPhoto.
Drag it to the Pictures Folder. Find one for Aperture and do the same.

  • I wanted to syncing my itunes to my ipad 2 (ios 4.3.3) and update to ios 5. but i did not have back up. So i lost all photos   other files. Pls help...Txs

    Hello,
I wanted to syncing itunes to my ipad2 in order to upgrade ios from 4.3.3 to 5 but lost all photos + all other files...
    txs for your help:)

Scroll down and see the "Update Your Device Using iTunes" section here:
    HT4623
There is no "update icon" in iOS versions earlier than iOS 5.
The update is very large (over 1.2 gigabytes).  You need a good internet connection to download it to your computer.  Maybe you'll need to take a trip to a city to get a good enough connection.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) 2>&- | wc -l | pbcopy
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be a number. It's automatically copied to the Clipboard. Please paste it into a reply.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there.

  • Lost all photos after a software update

I really hope someone can help here as I'm pretty desperate!
My iMac, running OS 10.4.11 recently offered a software upgrade on-line to iPhoto, to iPhoto 8 (7.14)
I accepted and when I tried to launch it next it said it couldn't show any photos and quoted that it needed to update the thumbnails. I accepted that it should do so. Nothing seemed to happen and no pictures showed after the supposed re-build stopped.
On quitting and re-launching I found to my horror that it had lost all photos, events, folders etc. meaning I'd lost over 400 pictures of our 3 year olds.
I searched for advice and have tried some remedies to library failures posted here but to no avail. All I could do was copy in pictures from my hard disc back-up folder and my iDisk but these stop at July 2008. I'm gutted, my wife will kill me so what on earth can I do?
Plus, to Apple - thanks! How the **** can this happen?

There's no reason to panic. Simply you have a damaged database file.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Didn't back up iCloud and phone crashed, have I lost all photos

I haven't backed up iCloud since August and my phone crashed so I reset it, it reset only till last August, have I lost all photos since then? :(

If your previous iPhone was/is running iOS 7, after you install iOS 7 on the replacement iPhone you can restore the replacement iPhone from the backup of the previous iPhone.

It does not give me a choice, it just says quit or upgrade? p.s. i didn't realise ther was  a way to back up my computer beforehand, which i am guessing this is time machine?

    1. No, you haven't.
    2. Back up the iPhoto library(this can be done through Time Machine or by dragging it to a drive, partition, or disk image formatted as Mac OS Extended) and then click Upgrade.
    3. Aside from Time Machine and drag-copying items from your home folder, programs such as the Disk Utility, Carbon Copy Cloner, and SuperDuper can make backups.

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

    - What OS is on your computer? you say you have Windows 98. That I think is the problem.
    - Are you importing the photos by:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
    If not how?
the .ithmp are thumbnails, not the full photo

  • Installed Lion but I want run Snow Leopard as well

I have installed Lion but I am having some issues with some apps. I thought that I could install Snow Leopard as a virtual machine so I could use those apps in SL, and still keep Lion.
Is that possible? Should I buy Snow Leopard or can I install this virtual machine using the DVD that I got when I bought my Mac?

    Barry Fass-Holmes wrote:
Could you please provide evidence which supports your claim that it's "a myth?"
Not really. I also cannot provide evidence that the legends of King Arthur, or Atlantis, or Bigfoot are myths. The lack of evidence that they are true is enough to place them in the category of myth. The inability to prove them false does not make them true. The same holds for the myth that "Snow Leopard is not licensed to be run in a virtual machine on a host Mac running Lion." That can be disproved simply by reading the Snow Leopard SLA, in which no such prohibition exists.
I would be very interested in seeing where Apple's EULA for Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion provides permission for users to install Snow Leopard in a virtual machine.
It isn't there. The idea that "it must be prohibited because the license does not specifically allow it" is absurd. If that method of interpreting licenses were correct, I could claim that running OS X while drinking coffee, or while wearing a three piece suit, or on a Mac in which the Apple logo has been covered over with a Detroit Tigers logo, are all prohibited, because the SLA doesn't explicitly permit them. Those are all absurd, of course; it is not a violation of the SLA to do any of those things. So it is with running Snow Leopard in a virtual machine. The license says that it must be a single copy only, running on Apple hardware. Running Snow Leopard in a virtual machine on a Mac with Lion as the host OS complies with the "one copy on Apple hardware" terms.
Lion's and Mountain Lion's EULAs do provide permission to install Lion or Mountain Lion (respectively) in a VM, but my reading of the EULAs is that Apple does not permit installation of Snow Leopard in a VM.
The 10.7 and 10.8 SLAs permit users to run up to three copies of the software simultaneously, one "directly" and up to two more in "virtual operating system environments". The 10.6 and earlier SLAs say one copy only, with no restriction on whether it is directly or in a virtual operating system environment. The term "directly" was added in the 10.7 and 10.8 licenses; it was not there in 10.6 and earlier. One copy of 10.6 running on Apple hardware is one copy of 10.6 running on Apple hardware, whether in a virtual machine or not.
Nowhere in the 10.6 SLA does it say that installing Snow Leopard in a VM is prohibited. Someone started that rumour and it has become one of the most pervasive bits of computer folklore in history. It is a myth.
I would be more than happy for you to demonstrate that I am incorrect.
I hope I have been helpful; let me know if there is any other information you need.

I installed Lion, but did not get the multi touch gestures feature. Also my "front row" is gone.

What model computer do you have? some early trackpads will not support all gestures.
Front Row was dropped by Apple in Lion. I beleive it can be recovered from Snow Leopard, I haven't tried it myself.
