Lost all pictures - Just have thumbnails of all!

I was hoping someone could help me....I lost all my photos and somehow only have thumbnails of all of them! I spoke to someone at the support center but they told me that I lost all my pictures. Does anyone know ANY way of either getting these pictures back or converting my thumbnails into actual pictures? Thank you!

Hey jenn and Welcome to Apple Discussions,
First stop using your computer.
Using the computer can overwrite the files containing your pictures.
Go here:
http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
and download the demo of Data Rescue 3.
I have DR 2 and just accidentally erased a hard drive I was working on. It took hours but DR 2 found all the files.
Run the extended search.
Once it's done look for your pics. Were they in jpeg format? If you find them you can download 5 MB of them. If you see that it works you then buy DR3 and you'll receive an activation code that will allow you to retrieve everything.
Good Luck.
Richard

I can still receive icloud ( ME email address) emails fine. I have not changed my settings at all. I have however tried all the settings I can find on the support pages. PLEASE HELP. Nothing has changed. This suddenly just started happening around a month ago. To frustrate me apple does not seem to have a support email or any method to contact them with this issue to do with their email product. I have spent ages going through the apple support sites and I keep getting asked for an apple product to mark it against. I have no apple product as I am using a PC but I am accessing and using their email product. Is there even a phone number I can call? Surely there is a support area for their Email server issues. Can anyone help? It is driving me mad and causing me major issues. My outlook is Outlook 2010 on a windows 8 PC. As I have said it worked fine then one day decided to stop sending emails.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How can I do a reply all? I have no reply all button.

I have no reply all button option. Thanks!

First question is where are you looking for one or expecting it to be?
If you right click a message subject line it will be in that menu.
If you are looking for it on the Mail Toolbar and it is not there, right click the toolbar and select Customize. Find the Reply All button and drag it on to the Mail Toolbar.
If you are looking for it on the Message Pane or a Tab header you will not find one. What you will find is a Smart Reply button that shows as Reply when there is only one addressee on the message and a Reply All when there is more than one.

  • What is the best way to set up iTunes on our home network so all family members have access to all of our itunes library, even music we don't have on the cloud?

I have five different people using 10 different apple devices on one itunes account in our family.  We have had trouble sharing.  What is the best way to set up itunes on our home network?  We have purchased music that sits on icloud, but we also have music we have imported from our previous cd library.  Our itunes program keeps crashing and dumping everyone's playlists.  So far we have all been using just the one desktop computer to sync to because we can't figure out how to share the same librarly and playlists on multiple computers in our home so devices can be synced at any location as well as playlists and purchases be made.

What is the best way to set up itunes on our home network?
One iTunes library per person.  One iTunes account per person.
If people wish to share songs, they can make copies.
When the inevitable day comes when the kids get older, you will not have to come back here and post asking how all that stuff can get separated!

  • I want all users to have access to all programs

I've just hired 2 interns and so for the first time I'm setting up a new user account other than my own administrator account. There are a few things I'd like to do.
    1. I figured out that I need to put the files I want to share with both interns into the Shared folder. I'm guessing I did that right because it seems to work.
    2. I'd like for both users to have the use of all or most of the software installed on my machine. How can I set that up? Is there a way to only give them access to some software but not all?
    3. I'd like to set up their Dock to look like mine. Is there any way to do this other than to take a screen shot of mine and simply recreate it on their log-in?
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Hello Benjamin,
Seems like you are already file sharing with the other computers...That is great.
As far as them using your applications......you must install the applications onto their computers for them to be able to use the application.
As for the look of the dock......Once you have installed the applications onto their computers...you can make the dock look like yours simply by adding the icons to the dock. The dock can change appearance very easily just by dragging and dropping icons.
I am not an expert in sharing but in school we have things set up this way. I have set one computer to act as the main file sharer. Be sure to do periodic back ups...HTH....Jim

  • Four Users, One Mac - Want all to have permissions for all files

Our family shares an imac on 10.6.
I want to set the machine up so all for users have access to all files.
Is this as simple as going to Get Info for the Macintosh HD and changing permissions for everybody to read and write and then choosing the "for all enclosed..."
    Simple?
    Problems down the road?

If you are using v7 of iPhoto them working from the Users/Shared folder will not work unless you want to get busy changing ACLs in the Terminal.
    What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. The problem here is that OS X works very hard to keep your data safe and secure from the other users. You're trying to beat what's built in to the system. So, to beat the system
    Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.
Lastly: This method seems a little clunky at first, but works very well. Most importantly, it uses the System to do the job for you.
Create a new Account on your Mac, call it Media. Create an iPhoto Library there. (BTW: This will work for iTunes too.)
Enable Sharing on the Library:(Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other accounts. In those accounts, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. The Library will appear in the other source pane.
This means that both users will be able to see the pics. If you want to use a pic then simply drag it from the shared Library to your own in the iPhoto Window. This means that each user can have their own edits.
If you want to add photos to the Library: Log into the Media account for that purpose.
To make it all seamless: Set your Mac to log into the Media Account automatically. Set iPhoto to launch on log-in. Then switch to your own account using Fast User Switching.
Net result: a Library that's permanently available to all users but also protected. Each user can have their own versions of the pics if they want.
No partitioning, no permissions issues. Uses no extra disk space. What's not to like?
    Regards
    TD

So I was merging pictures in the events and all of the sudden several went black and when i clicked on the photos they were gone and when I click on the blank picture with an image number under it an exclamation point show up.  Have i lot these pictures for forever?

I'm sorry, but your sister, unless she had already turned on the "Find my iPhone" feature and the person who took the phone has not disabled it, is out of luck. She should report the theft to local police authorities, including the serial number of her iPhone. While her experience is unfortunate, there are good reasons why Apple cannot do anything else about it.
I hope she gets her phone back.
    Best of luck.

Update:  I reset my phone again and this time I restored it from my last iCloud backup.  That "sort of" worked.  (The missing info was on my phone temporarily, but it's still missing from iCloud.com and as the phone syncs with the cloud the missing contacts are disappearing.)
This is good news, but I'm losing progress.  How can I restore my iCloud settings to that last backup?

  • I just used a firewire connection to transfer files from an older MAC to a newer MAC. My newer MAC has lost all that was on it, and all the applications are opening like they have never been used before and asking for Rosetta. Help!!!

I just used a firewire connection to transfer files from a PowerBook G4 to a MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro has lost all that was on it, and all the applications are opening like they have never been used before and asking for Rosetta. How do I find all my files on the MacBook Pro, or undo what I have done???

IGNORE the last post: he thought you are using Lion or Mountain Lion.
Since you are using Snow Leopard, you need to install Rosetta.  It can be found on your Snow Leopard Install DVD in the Options section.
Once installed all should be well again.
Also, if your computer is connected to the internet when the Dialog Box about PowerPC applications comes up, it MIGHT allow you to download Rosetta from the internet.  There has been some discussion that Apple has discontined internet download of Rosetta into Snow Leopard.
Someone else will have to address your lost files problem.
