Lost all User settings / presets

hi
Using LR 2.2
on MacBook Pro / Leopard 10.5
worked great so far.
just finished a long development session, went through lots of pictures.
After quitting LR I seem to have lost all my user settings, like my development settings, the metadata presets and the export presets.
the catalog seems fine otherwise.
any idea what happened here ?
thank you
b.

It would appear that when you "change" this setting, Lr can no longer see the old settings since it's now looking in the wrong place. I would bet that any NEW presets you created AFTER changing to "save with catalog" would be remembered by Lr.
The question is: When changing this setting, is there something that has to be done in order to get the old presets to re-save to the new location? My thinking is that when you change the setting, Lr does not automatically save the presets to the catalog since they're already saved elsewhere -- i.e. it doesn't realize that it has to re-save them again in order to see them the next time Lr is started.
I'd be interested in hearing any further info on this.
Thanks,
Larry

• Help!!! Lost all my settings!

Help! Just lost all my settings. Didn't do nything, just went to look at my Mail. Clicked on Mail in dock, and found that all my emails had gone from all boxes. Closed Mail and re-opened. It showed a box headed "Wecome to Mail" with "You have no email accounts configured to use Mail. Please enter the following information to send and receive email." The address book was empty. Clicked on Safari and found all Bookmarks gone and my homepage was now set to Apple instead of the previous setting to Google. Clicked elsewhere and got the beachball.
Rebooted machine (had to press the button.) When it came back the dock had reverted from the previous small magnifiable setting to what seems to be the original "out of the box" dock (ie all my additions that I had previously added, had gone. Mail and Safari were in the same boat (ie no data.) Also iCal has lost all it's entries.
Help! What's happened? What can I do?

My first reaction is to suspect your log-in.
Did you log-in (perhaps by mistake) as a different user ?
This might explain your being treated as if you just logged in for the first time with all the attendant defaults.
Is this Mac used by persons other than yourself ?
If not, do you recall setting the Administration rights to your account?
If yes, can you get the Admin to look at the state of your files.
Things to look for: could a folder have been moved or deleted by mistake?
Last but not least, do you have a (current) backup?

• I set up iCloud on pc, ipad etc was asked to copy contacts to iCloud and have lost all the settings and groups that they were in for over 2000.  Can I get it back?

I have Outlook on my PC and thought it would be smart to have my contact in the Clouds where my ipad, work pc, home pc would be updated etc.  So I was asked I though to copy my contacts from Outlook to iCloud.  Instead it moved them and in doing so lost all the settings like Categories and reset how they are listed (used first name because have a lot of drs, phds, msws etc) now listed with last name and so I have a lot of people with md as last name.  This is an organization list and is about 2000 contacts so having to go back and fix it will be a nightmare and unnecessary work.
Is there any way I can fix this easily instead of correcting each contact one at a time?
Thanks.

Restore your backup.

• After restart, all user settings are gone and reset to defaults

Hi after waking up my iMac from sleep today, it appeared something had gone wrong (apps not responding…notification that my external drives had "not been ejected correctly" etc). I restarted. After restart, and logging back in to my regular user account, all user settings were missing and reset to factory defaults: Desktop reset to the "wave", Dock reset, Download folder missing (grey question mark), Dropbox unable to connect, Safari bookmarks missing (but still on my iPhone-- so it's a local iMac problem, not an issue with iCloud), small things like mouse scrolling prefs reset etc.
Basically all of my user preferences are missing. I've seen a number of threads about how to fix some of these items individually, but seems like there is a single corrupt preference file somewhere maybe?
I've repaired permissions a few times (there were a lot), and restarted but nothing has fixed it yet.
I had been logged out of iCloud, but once I logged back in, my Mail came back (just my me.com account-- still missing my Gmail, will need to reset I guess), along with Calendar and Contacts-- those are ok.
I keep all my files on an external LaCie RAID, and that all appears to be fine. Folders all intact etc.
Suggestions?
Thanks for your help!

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

• Mail has lost all my settings please help

Hi guys and girls.
So as the description says, Apples Mail program has lost all my settings, emails stationary etc.
I have been using time machine though.
Can anyone tell me is there a way to retrieve all this data?
Thanks in advance.

Hello, let's start with this...
I'd get EasyFind...

Use it to search your whole drive for case insensitive & show invisibles...

• Tiger Killed All User Settings & Registrations: Recovery Ideas?

Booted up today to find every single user setting hosed. Dock was in default setting with bad app links, all bookmarks on Firefox gone, all email settings erased. All software registrations nada. The works.
System was shut down normally last night. I regularly maintain with Cocktail and Disk Utility.
Repairs begun:
Disk Warrior, which found some issues and repaired (apparently unrelated to the problem at hand). Then ran Disk Utility, no problems found. Still hosed.
I had been running Tiger for about two weeks, installing 10.4 from DVD and upgrading by the book. Have now returned to the safety of 10.3.9
Anyone heard of this issue, or have any suggestions on what happened or how to return to original? As this was a test of the new OS, my backup was the prior system. So only some bookmarks and outgoing mail lost. Obviously I’m not impressed with the stability of Tiger.

"
From what you are saying, it would appear (at least to me) that your User Preferences Folder got hosed. "
From the little inspection that I did (in order to retrieve data not backed up), the user settings were not deleted ... but were sidestepped. In the bookmarks for Firefox, for instance, a blank bookmarks.html file was created, while the saved ones were re-labeled bookmarks-1.html, -2 etc.
Not sure how the software registrations were "lost".
I can see the advantage in a clean install. I did this with Panther upgrading from Jaguar, and moved my registrations, passwords, etc., file-by-file. (Some registrations aren't written down and have to be moved). It's time consuming but possible. Time is money, and Tiger's time-saving enhancements have just been nulled by this sudden maintenance issue. Next year when I have time I might give Tiger another go.

• Automated Save for web + All user slices + Preset?

I've got a large PSD templade filled with web slices, each containing web button graphics.
These are always saved in three states: "-off", "-on" and "-active" in .png format.
To speed things up, I've prepared:
* 3 "Layer comps" (that toggles layers on/off and adjusts visibility/effects)
* 3 "Save for web settings" that appends the "-off", "-on", "-active" suffix etc
However, each time I want to update these three sets (and that is often!) I have to jump through hoops to get it done... applying layer comp + File > Save for web + selecting "all user slices" and "preset" + confirm overwrite.
After a few hundred times it gets tiresome :-)
Bottomline:  Is there any way to make an action, or similar to do all this in a single keystroke?
Robert K

I don't know why I didnt't think of this already
It works a treat, at least with CS4 (haven't tried it elsewhere).
I ended up doing three actions for each of "off", "on" and "active". The action only toggles the appropriate Layer State, than Save for Web. It seems that only User slices are saved, and no dialogs or anything flashes by.
Great! Thanks.

• Upgraded To Leopard, lost files & user settings?

Trying to update from Panther to Leopard on 1.25 Ghz iMac, used the Archive & Install. It looked like a successful install until the very end, whereupon the warning "Installation Failed due to problem migrating user data, try again." Perhaps foolishly, I did try again. This time, no error messages.
However, upon restart, the "Welcome" screen came up, as though I was a new user or had used the Erase option, which I hadn't. I thought this wasn't right, tried restarting in safe mode. This time, I tried to migrate data from existing volume. It came up with the user name, a good sign I thought. Then, it said that migration had failed, due to a folder buried in iPhoto with too long of a name.
Thinking I was smart, I started up the computer in target firewire mode, connected to another computer. I found the folder, shortened the name, exited firewire mode and restarted. Also ran Diskwarrior to rebuild directories.
After restart, migration from "another volume" worked fine, but now no documents folder, empty iPhoto folder, mail lost it's settings, etc. The only thing which remains is the user name.
I noticed a folder with a lot of .plan files, decided to run the Leopard installer again, thinking that it would use these .plan files to resurrect the missing files/settings. No such luck.
How can I retrieve the missing settings and files? The disk appears to be fine in disk 1st aid and DiskWarrior.
Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
iLife is not part of the OS. iLife is on the system restore disks that came your Mac. You can restore it using these disks - do a Custom Install.

• Ipad 2 restored and lost all my settings.

I finally was able to restore my Ipad2 after having trouble updating to 4.3.1. Now all my settings are gone. I have lost my game saves, application settings and preferences, garageband songs etc. My apps are all there. Its just the settings that are mia. Its like its a brand new ipad2 with fresh apps downloaded. My local data is gone. Any thoughts on how to get them back?
Thanks

In the Advanced tab of iTunes' Preferences what is the time and date of the backup you used for the restore? It sounds like you have a backup that does not contain your dat and such. It may be that when you were having trouble updating a backup was made. Looking at the date might provide some information.

• Upgraded to 3.1 and lost all users and groups.  How do we get them back?

We ran the update to Server 3.1 (from 3.0) on our Mavericks Mac-Mini Server.
Everything had been fine before the update, but now all users and groups have completely disappeared.
The only user we have is the main administrator log-in.
Since we verified that all of our data, wikis, and other items are still in place, it might be easier to just re-create the groups and users (and permission therein).
But, we cannot log into Workgroup Manager, nor can we add users/groups in the Server app (because it is "grayed-out").
Can somebody please provide a suggestion??
We are a small engineering firm with only 5 users, so it's not like this would take all day.
Thanks, Mike

Have you tried
sudo sso_util configure -r REALM_NAME -a diradmin afp
(cf. Lion Server: AFP users unable to authenticate with Kerberos after upgrading)in Apple Support ?

In addition to other expert advice about bulk modify I have to add that although my first language is not English, I personally prefer to name my OU's in English language. I experienced some problems with non-English OU's especially when it comes to reporting

@Mahdi,
PowerShell Integrated Scripting Environment (ISE) 3.0
supports Unicode Language (Arabic, Farsi/Persian, etc.), you do not have problem with non-english. Here is example:

Type about:support<enter> in the address bar.
Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics.
Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button
Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current
Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.
Enter the bookmarkbackups folder. This is where Firefox makes backups
of your bookmarks. Look for the jsonlz4 file you want to restore
(check the time / date / size). Right click on that file and select Copy.
Now go back to the profile folder where you started. Rename the file
places.sqlite by adding .old to it. Now right click in the folder
and select Paste. The file you just pasted here, rename it to
places.sqlite. After you are done, restart Firefox.

• Lost all user data randomly.

I lost all of my Firefox data this afternoon. I may have just rebooted from a BSOD in Windows 7 (cant remember). When I started Firefox it opened the import bookmarks prompt and all 3 of my profiles were gone. I do have my 3 profile folders in appdata still but I don't know how I should go about restoring them. Any ideas on what happened, or advice?

Hello,
Firefox automatically creates a backup of your bookmarks, which can be useful if you lose or disappear. To recover follow these instructions.
# Use <u> One </ u> of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library:
# * 'Firefox 29 and later: Click the Bookmarks button and select Show All Bookmarks.
# * 'Previous versions of Firefox: Click Firefox button then Bookmarks. (If you can not see the Firefox button, click the Bookmarks button or markers element top menu, select Show All Bookmarks.)
# At the top of the library window Scores, click Import and Backup and select Reset.
# Click the date you want to restore the backup of your bookmarks.
# In the new window that appears, click OK.
# Markers selected date should have been restored.
For more information, check out the article Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer. For other solutions, check the Recover lost or missing Bookmarks.
Fixed the problem?? Please to tell us!
Thank you.

• I just downloade FF 5 and I hate it - I want my old version back - whatever it was. Websites take forever to load if at all - then error message. I lost all my settings. How to revert to LAST version. How do I know last version?

All my settings gone, my 9 most popular visited websites gone. AFter reading through other HELP questions, same thing happened when upgrade to FF4. I want my old version back - and how do I know what my last versionwas?

I don't know what your previous version was. If it was before version 4 then finding 3.6 or so maybe hard to find. You might run a search on Google for Firefox 3.6.
Firefox 4 can be downloaded here if you don't have in your download file.
