Lost an app, all photos and contacts

Hello Fellow Apple users,
As we are all excited about iOS 5, (and so was I) i took peer pressure and upgraded, there are good and bad things to this!
1. I lost all my photos
2. I lost a paid app
Now photos is most distressing, the app is not too big a deal, i checked itunes and my iPod touch (4th Gen. 32GB) and it wasn't there, i checked my itunes, not there, i checked the media folder, not there (app is called Pocket God if meaning anything) and as such, i have lost it, now before i upgraded to iOS 5, i had trouble updating it (everything was fine when it was 4.3.3, the ipod) and every time i went to update it, it came up with my mum's apple ID (she bought the app) and despite the fact that i signed in & out, it still didnt change, now, all that fixed because of iOS 5. or did it? anyways, whats happened, is being the idiot i am, i didn't back up before iOS 5, and so i lost my photos, contacts etc. and i wondered, can i get them back? or are they gone forever? the app store problem for, so far is ok, it works, but the fact i lost all my pics is so SOO distressing, so i tried to sync, and check all my backups, but they were all after iOS 5 update, so i think i lost them all, as well as my app, Pocket God, which has completely disappeared fromy my PC (Windows 7) Itunes (10.2 i think) And iPod (32GB, 5.0) and this is all just s distressing, could anyone help????

- If the photos were synced to the iPod and they are not on the computer they are gone since synced photos are not part of the backup that iTunes makes as the first step of the backup.
- Similar for apps, if the apps are not on the computer when the update is made the app, they are not on the iPod after theupdate since the apps themselves (data is) are not in the backup.
- Yo have to be singed into the accont that purchased the app to update the app.  If you have more than one app to update and they were purchased with different accounts, you can't use the Update All but have to update individually untill the ones left were purchased from one account.
