Lost app data

My iPhone (3GS) just lost its apps today. It shows just a small number of the apps I had installed.
I connected to my PC to look for a backup, but in doing so I think it overwote my backup! Apple backup can't really be this stupic, can it??
I've got about 2 years worth of data for some of the apps (eg. electricty meter readings which I use to map usage against historical usage). How can I get this bacK?

Ugh - we accidentally deleted an app today - lost a ton of info....I'm worried we may have overridden our data too....Please - if anyone knows how to restore data for an individual app, we need help too! Thanks!

  • Can I recover lost app data after restore?

Hi everyone and thank you in advance to anyone who can offer some help!
Apple recently told me some issues I was having with my phone were software based and they refused to issue me a replacement phone until I attempted to setup the phone as a new phone in iTunes. I did so and it didn't fix the issues. I am waiting on a replacement, however, in the meantime, I am restoring to the backup file from iTunes. I have restored all of my general data but, all of my app data is missing.
I'm most concerned with an app that keeps track of my time off requests for work (including info on all of my vacation days and sick time, from the last 5 years) as I know I have time to take off before the end of the month. I know, it sounds silly.
Bottom line, is there a way to restore the backed-up app data to my phone? I've never had this problem when I've used the backup to set up a new phone or a replacement in the past.
    Many thanks!
Note: I have an iPhone 5 and am using a Windows based computer.

The backups are completely random and although I backed up daily and, as a precaution, 4 times previous to the advised restore, there is only one that is current (the next most recent file is from a year ago).
As mentioned, I've previously had no issue with this. I've received replacement phones and purchased upgrades in the past, and never had any issues with app data syncing.
Should I try another restore from backup or is there something else I should be trying?

  • Lost app data after sync

Hi, yesterday I connected my ipod to my computer and when I disconnected, I noticed that my apps were gone but were still in itunes. I reconnected it and told it to sync the apps. When it finished I found that all my apps were back in my ipod but they were all moved to the end. That's annoying but whatever.
Later on, I realized that all the data for my apps were gone. I'm especially concerned with a bible app that I have on there. I had so many notes and highlights that are all just gone now. I notice that all the notes I made in the notebook that came installed on the ipod are all still there, however.
Is there any way to restore my apps' data?

Only way is to restore from backup via iTunes.
Restore iPod touch from a backup:
1 Connect iPod touch to the computer you normally sync with.
2 In iTunes, Control-click iPod touch in the Devices list and choose “Restore from Backup”
    from the menu that appears.
3 Choose the backup that you want to restore from the pop-up menu, then click Restore.
If your backup is encrypted, enter your password.

  • Arghhhh! iPhone frustration.  Lost App Data!

    Hi
So much frustration going around these days. Either I am getting too old and forgetful or there's a conspiracy against me!
I couldn't even log into the forums with my original Apple ID so had to resort to creating new Apple ID form my MobileMe account name. It's took me all night as it wouldn't accept anything. Anyway, let's put that to bed!
I am sooo frustrated I want to cuss as they say in the States. Arggghh! iPhone.
I was messing around with preivous iTunes libraries the other day and I think I know the answer to this and when I go to try and break my friend's wife's high score on DoodleJump which is stupidly silly but addictive - all my scores have vanished!
That's not the real issue. All my other App data has vanished too. You know the business related stuff like Accufuel data and other apps. Really upset about the Accufuel for now.
Can anyone tell me where it's gone? I need to restore this and unfortunately I do not do physical backups regularly on the iPhone because I thought syncing did just that.
Is there any way this would sync to MobileMe and can I recover it from there? I suppose I could if I had set settings and backed up to there. I don't know where to find it though.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated before i take a razor to my arm! It's nearly 1.00am in UK - gotta get some sleep before another long day tomorrow - being more productive than playing DoodleJump - hopefully!

Syncing your iPhone with iTunes does this. iTunes creates and maintains a backup for your iPhone which is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process. This link provides the data included with your iPhone's backup, which includes 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app.

Is there any way this would sync to MobileMe and can I recover it from there?
With a MobileMe account on an iPhone, you can sync contacts, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks over the air, which in turn is kept synchronized with the supported applications on your computer for contacts, calendar events, and browser bookmarks. 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app is not synced with MobileMe. 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party app is available on your iPhone along with being included with your iPhone's backup stored by iTunes on your computer which is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process.
By messing around with previous iTunes libraries, does this mean your 3rd party apps were removed from your iPhone? In regards to iTunes content including 3rd party apps, an iPhone can be synced with a single iTunes library on one computer only.

  • How can I simply restore lost app data from iCloud, without resetting all content. Please someone!!!

I accidentally deleted a timesheet app from my iPhone, I reinstalled the app again but the data did not come back with it. Can someone help me with details how I can restore my lost data for just that app, from iCloud. iCloud is and was set up on my phone and was updated 3 days before this happened. People have suggested I "reset all content and setting" and it will come back. The sounds of deleting all content on my phone worries me. I have no other devices to back up on, so my only back up is in "iCloud"
Is there a simple way I can download and reinstall just the data for the app from iCloud?

Delete all content and settings will wipe your phone. You cannot selectively restore in iTunes or iCloud, it is either all or none. You would have to restore to a backup before you deleted the app to be able to recover the data. However, anything that you did since that time would be lost.

  • Replaced iphone with new one now lost app data

I had to get my iphone 4 replaced by apple because it locked up after the latest iOS upgraded to 4.2.9 They could not even get it to work on there computers when restoring it. So given a new iphone. Told me to synch it as new i phone which I did. Now all my game apps have me starting from beginning. I see that it still has my old phone listed in my itunes. Could i restore to that and get the data back. Will i lose any new apps I downloaded since then? I dont want to restore it from old restore if it was corrupt and caused the problem. Looking for my angry bird levels and cut the rope levels. Any ideas.

Restore from the most recent backup of your old phone to get your data back.
If you find that your data was corrupt, you can always go back to restoring as a new phone.  You'll never know until you try.

  • IPad upgrade to iOS 6 lost apps/data

I have just upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS 6.0.1. I backed it up beforehand, but the upgrade has lost virtually all the applications, and their data as well as the music (which I backed up manually beforehand). Is there any way to recover this?

  • Tried to transfer all my data to iPhone 5 from iPhone 3GS lost my email and app data?  Do you why and how I can fix this?

    Hi...
Tried to transfer all my data to iPhone 5 from iPhone 3GS lost ONLY my email and app data?  But weird thing is, its still on my old phone!!!
Do you know why and how I can fix this?
    Shelley

How did you "try" to transfer this data? The only way to restore App data is by restoring from a backup that contains the App data, then syncing the Apps back to the phone. Emails are not included in any iPhone backup, only account settings.

  • Lost all app data and former backups after iTunes 11 update

I just updated to iTunes 11. I'm using Windows 8 Pro x64 and an Apple iPhone 5 32GB. Before the update I made a backup of my iPhone.
    So far, so good.
Problems that occured after the update:
    1. One Music CD in my library was split into two albums with titles 1-4 and 5-13. I fixed that manually.
    2. Available space on my iPhone decreased after the update. I've got an iPhone 5 with 32GB capacity. Before the update and sync with iTunes 11 I had like almost 5GB of empty space. Now it's only 1.31GB. There are not more apps, music, pictures etc. on my iPhone than before the update.
    3. All data of apps like balance (budget tool), Momento (diary) is gone! Apps like Dropbox lost their settings.
Hence, I decided to restore the data from the backup I made just before updating to iTunes 11. THIS BACKUP IS GONE!! I'm no IT newbie and I'm an iPhone user since the iPhone 3.
I just wish I would have not updated to iTunes 11. Apple Switzerland's Support was not able to help. They said if the backup is gone, data is lost ;(

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
If you have synced your device on two separate days then the current state of your device backup will no longer have the stored data for the apps that were removed. If however you have not resynced since noticing the problem then, once the library is restored, it may be possible to restore the device to bring back the missing app data.

  • I had no idea Aurora used the same actual App Data file as it's own source, I thought it was just emulating Firefox. I unistalled it and lost everything...

I had installed Aurora 21.0a2 some time last year and had only used it once. I recently uninstalled it and without knowledge that it used the same exact App Data files as Firefox does, so I removed all data. Now I have lost 100's of bookmarks... I do backup my system often but not my browser data, I had only once made a copy of my Firefox data in August 2013, so I was able to copy and paste that info, which had maybe 35-40% of my bookmarks...
I had tried Windows Recovery a couple times, it says it wasn't able to restore the data successfully each time. I had also tried Recuva, not really sure if it found the file I was searching for, so I would kindly ask any of the Forum Mods or users who would suggest this method, what "file" exactly should I search for.
I had been searching for ".default" and ".defaults" files, and any other data relating to Firefox but with no success.
Do I really have any options of recovery or ....?

You should never choose to remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
You will have to try to recover a recent JSON backup (bookmarks-####-##-##_xxxx.json) in the bookmarkbackups folder of that removed Firefox profile folder with Recuva or another undelete utility.

Hi All, i recently done a back up and update & restore, but ive lost my notes, my text messages and my reminders and notes on the calender, i also have lost the data i had in an app which was very important to me. Please Please help me,  i,m total novice.
I did this back up because i was instructed by my service provider. This was supposed to sort out my losing connection problem, which it didn't, it instead gave me a new problem. If there is anyone out there who can help me to retrieve my lost information i would appreciate it.
    Thank You in advance.

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup.  If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup.  You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone.  However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

  • I lost all my app data!

I was installing an app on my perfectly functioning iPhone, and it caused my iPhone to freeze.
I had to perform a complete restore. But I had backed up my iPhone in iTunes, so I wasn't that upset about it.
I went to the Apple Store, because I could not do anything to get it to unfreeze. They helped me. And did the restore for me.
We then applied my most recent backup and I got everything back in order.
Well, everything, that is, but my app data. Gone forever. Every single app: pennies, iXpensit, my 3 fuel gauge apps. OmniFocus, ToDo. All gone.
I am so happy about Evernote. Because it syncs to the web and to a desktop app. So I have all that information.
I had worked really hard to be organized. Some of these apps were godsends to my life. It makes me sick that I lost all that data.
What is the point of using them, if the data can be wiped in a second.
My iPhone and your iPhone will crash at some point. Somewhere down the line we will all probably have to do a restore on it.
So why use these fantastic apps and put all that time and energy into them, if it can all go on a moment's notice?
The apps are the greatest. I love them. I still love them.
But this backup issue is essential.
Anyone have any idea about how to protect myself with backing up these kinds of apps?
I am really upset about this.
    Thanks.

So did I, for the third time. I have previously had two "Lost Apps" crashes, resulting in complete factory resetting. After reading about succesful resetting by deauthorizing/reauthorizing the phone in itunes, I became a bit brave, and wanted to download some new applications...
This time, iTunes did not want to talk to my iPhone this morning, claiming that the iPhone returned wrong response. I then did a power reset, and after that it was just the White Apple Logo of Death.
To speed up the factory resetting and reload, I deleted about half of the apps in iTunes (since the large number may be a reason for infinite loops in iPhone startup as reported elsewhere).
So now we just have to wait for some updated software that makes us start trusting the device with our data again. For the moment I am only using apps where I can have a synced backup somewhere else (NOT relying on the itunes Restore function).

  • After system restore to back up have lost texts, photos and app data

Speakers not working on iphone all of a sudden and volume switches not working (just the volume comes up but no bars at the bottom).  So did system restore and more problems.
After I did this restore (to my backup done today) to my iphone 4s, I now have no text messages on my phone, no photos and no data on my nike running app (6months of records of runs).  Have searched through these forums and still stuck.
I think I'm going to have to take my iphone somewhere for the speaker issue, but have no idea where as optus sent it out to me directly via mai l(Adelaide, Australia).
In the meantime, I really want my texts, photos and app data back on my phone.
    any help HUGELY appreciated..

thanks for your reply.  I am trying the restore again now.
But no, I still have no sound, so it was all for naught.  Its fine if I have headphones in, and fine if its in a dock or connected to bluetooth, the phone also rings and I can hear people on the phone:  the only sound that doesnt work is music playing through the speaker, and video.  Also when I press the volume up and down buttons, nothing works.  I suspect there is something wrong with the docking connection as far as I can see from other peoples questions on here.
But the loss of texts and app data is just the icing on the cake
