Lost Apple LaserWriter 8 driver

I've searched my drives for the Apple LaserWriter 8 driver that I will require to drive a HP Color Laserjet 5550 and I think I must have tossed it when originally setting up my OSX 10.3.9 ( I'm keen on trashing items I think I'll never use). I searched for "LaserWriter 8" and nothing came up.
Can I download this driver from somewhere, and if I do, where should I put it?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
600 MHz iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thanks for the info Niel.
I 'm sure I've gone through the entire 5550 manual slowly and carefully to see how to set it up, and I'm certain they mentioned the LaserWriter driver several times under their OSX instructions. Maybe I misunderstood. I'm going straight back to read it again and I'll get back with another reply, if you don't mind.
Thanks

  • Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS with Win 7 (64bit): Looking for driver software

    Hello,
can anybody tell me where to find the driver software for the Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS connected to my Windows PC running Windows 7 (64Bit). With Win XP there was no problem at all, the printer got connected via plug and play, whereas with Win 7 I can't get it to work.
If there is no original WIN7 compatible driver version available, is there any other printer driver that could be used instead.
Any help is very much appreciated.

I have an imac running OS10.6.8 and an Apple laserwriter 16/600PS.  Is it possible to connect these directly without networking?  Where can I find the printer driver?

It turned out that WD is the big bad guy in this game.
According the data rescue company where I asked for an inspection, both of the drives had their reader head loose. And in the one, which was my already-in-use disk its even damaged the platters... xxxxx
So its time to pay bunch of money to recover, and take a walk to wd service to bang on the desk.
Also note - it may be somehow related to intellispeed technology - since macs not really friendly with wd-s built-in solutions.
On the other hand, with WD GP 1Tb there is no problems at all for ages.

  • Apple Laserwriter 8500 driver for OS 10.4.7

I have just upgraded to OS 10.4.7. Once the upgrade was complete I could no longer access the laserwriter. Apple Tech Support informed me that the Apple OS no longer supports the Apple Laserwriter 8500. So the new OS no longer has a driver for this laserwriter.
I was wondering if anyone has created a workaround for this problem.

The problem isn't your version of OS-X, it's that you have an Intel Mac. Download the Ozonic Intel update from M-Audio. I had the same issue with my iMac not reading my Ozonic. It's a simple fix. Good luck!

  • How Do I Use My Apple LaserWriter IIg Ethernet with Snow Leopard?

How do I get my LaserWriter IIg ethernet printer to work with 10.6 Snow Leopard? Cannot seem to find the printer listed in any of the "add a printer" menus. The driver is listed as part of OS 10.6. If I need an IP Address, how do I find out what its IP Address is?

(OK, I am confused because the Apple LaserWriter IIg has a built-in ethernet card so for the past few years and until last Sunday (thru OS 10.5) I've simply run the ethernet cable through an Asante FriendlyNet Adapter that runs over to my Ethernet hub and everything has printed fine. Plus I was able to share the printer with other computers around the house. Maybe you are saying that internally the printer communicates to the ethernet card via AppleTalk?)
Unfortunately I cannot find my notes on what IP address I've been using the past few years. I came to the conclusion that I should use the ethernet address which I think is 192.168.0.3, but that hasn't worked. I also tried 192.168.0.1 and 0.0.0.0.
I am adding these using the LPD option in the Add Printer dialog box.
In each case, it adds the printer, I can send a job to the print queue but it doesn't send the job anywhere and keeps trying every 15 seconds.
Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated!

  • Apple LaserWriter Select 360  and OSX 5.1.2 upgrade

My LaserWriter 360 has performed perfectly from Tiger to Leopard 5.1. After upgrading to 5.1.2 it would NOT print. The LaserWriter is connected to the computer with a Ethernet cable into an Asante box,and then into the printer. This has never failed for over 6 years and since OS X came out. The Apple LaserWriter 360 driver DOES exist in print driver lists in the Library. I Archived and Installed back to the OSX 5.1 version hoping that might fix my problem but it did not.
I have gone into "Network" and "Printer Fax" — tried everything with no success. I hate to part with this printer as it performs great when it was working before the 5.1.2 upgrade. Any suggestions?

Help! Apple advised me that there are very smart people here, smarter than they, who might be able to help me. I'm having the same problem getting my MacBook OS 10.5 to work (at all) with my Laserwriter Select 360. It is not supported (7 years) by Apple. It worked wirelessly when I first set up borrowing the driver from my Ibook. My household uses 3 ibooks with great success including the one I hoped to replace with my MacBook. After 5 months, and trying various solutions posted here, by some fluke it printed once yesterday.
Can anyone tell me where I can get a driver that will work wirelessly with my airport? Apple said I have a Guttenberg (?) default in the OS software, which is not visible in the printer library, but can only be plugged directly into the MacBook via an adapter. This would mean the rest of the Mac users in my home (Ibooks) would not have access to that port and I want to be wireless. I've read many happy reports here and hope someone very wise can help me. Apple says this printer never worked wirelessly. Somehow I completed all of my graduate education using it wirelessly so I have hope that someone here can help. I look forward to hearing from you and appreciate the time you've taken to read this request. Best wishes to all! Kim

  • My computer crashed and I lost my hard drive. I have downloaded the itunes to my new pc.  How do I sync my Iphone without loosing everything??

My computer crashed and I lost my hard drive.  I have downloaded the Itunes on my new computer.   I am afraid to sync my I phone as I don't want to loose everything on it and my I Tunes is blank - not what I had previously. ????  Can someone advise?

Prevent automatic syncing one time, without changing settings:  Open iTunes. Then, as you connect iPhone to your computer, press and hold Shift-Control (on a PC) until you see iPhone appear in the sidebar. Then, use iTunes File menu > Transfer Purchases from XXX's iPhone.  This will transfer your purchased items.
For your other stuff you will need a 3rd party utility.  Find  discussion of them here
Unlike music and video purchases, iTunes Store Apps can be downloaded again without charge.  This explains how: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

  • Can't print from my Apple Laserwriter 16/600 PS

    Hello,
I have an Apple Laserwriter 16/600 PS that I used to be able to print documents to from my Mac G4 OS 10.2.8 via a network connection with my Mac 9600/OS 8 as a shared printer. It was an easy solution to the cabling issues between laserwriters of that vintage and G4s and USB ports. But this was not a good option after I upgraded my G4 to OS 10.4.8.
So now I have connected this printer to my G4/OS 10.4.8 using a Keyspan USB parallel printer adapter. I am networked using built-in Ethernet; connect to my ISP via TCP/IP using DHCP that automatically assigns an IP address to my computer and router. I have AppleTalk set to active and configured automatically. I do notice that I have no AppleTalk zones that I can use. So I'm not sure what use this is.
I set up the printer on my G4 with the Printer Setup Utility using Line Printer Daemon - LPD protocol. I used the same IP address as my computer, gave it a name and location and selected the model Apple Laserwriter 16/600 PS v2014.106 to print from the menu list in the utility.
I can see the printer using Apple System Profiler under Hardware/Printers/Queue Name. I can see the printer in my applications' page setup dialog. But I cannot print anything. (At one point during my hours of effort, and with another setup configuration, when I viewed the job printing from the setup utility, it said the job was printing, but it just ran and ran. Now it simply says "no job printing.")
I repaired permissions, used MacJanitor and restarted everything. Still no luck. The cable is plugged in properly as far as I can tell.
    Questions:
    1. Have I assigned the incorrect IP address to the printer (it is the same as my ISP assigned IP address for my computer? If so what should I assign as an IP address?
    2. Do I need to download an Apple Laserwriter 16/600 print driver or some other software to make the computer and printer agree with each other?
    3. Should I be using another protocol in the Printer Setup Utility? IPP and HP Jet Direct - Socket are the other protocols available in this utility. Once again, what is the correct IP address to use for a connected printer?
    4. Why are there no AppleTalk zones available even though I have made AppleTalk active?
    5. I do have access to OS Classic and the old printer utility, but how do I utilize that to make this printer work on OS 10.4.8?
I am sure there must be a solution and I have spent a long time Googling and searching. If someone could walk me through a solution or point to an article or download that would help, I would be so appreciative.
Thanks for any help on this.

    Shelley,
The adapter is just that. It changes one plug at one end to a standard RJ 45 phone style socket on the other end. Plug in the <---> plug into the <---> socket on the back of the printer. The box end of the transceiver has a standard socket for the usual phone style plug.
"Do the transceiver (that I am assuming has the aaui adapter plug on it) and the RJ45 ethernet plug come as separate items that I then string together with the cat 5 cable? "
They can come as a box with two sockets and one short adapter cable or a box with one RJ 45 socket and one short cable permenantly attached that has the <---> plug for the printer.
"Or are these three items available as a unit that I can just order, ready to go (i.e. plug into the printer and connect to the computer.)?"
I have not seen one that was long enough to eliminate the need for the cat 5 ethernet cable. The length of cable needed varies so widely that manufacturers just make the adapter, you choose the length of cable.
Ethernet does not split like phone splitters. Hubs were designed for that task. Your router acts as a spliter/hub PLUS routing duties so go ahead and use it for its intended purpose. The uplink port on the router goes to the link with another network so save that port for your DSL modem.
Wikipedia offers a little background reading here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Router
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_switch
Not to be outdone, Yahoo has a site:
    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070331094643AAcs2Rs
So, to recap, you do not need a separate ethernet hub - good guess, they do exist. A switch is a fast HUB - oversimplified explanation - and is not needed in your situation. Your router has a hub plus an uplink port for linking to another router connected to another Local Area Network.
Think of a router this way. My son has LAN parties with ten or more computers in one room connected to the internet. Without a router, the internet company would see ten computers and send him a bill for ten internet connections. At AOL rates, that would be $220 or more a month. Ouch! A router takes those ten computers and reduces the network signals into one so he only gets a bill for one $22/month connection. Much nicer for a student's budget.
    Hope this helps.

  • Getting the Apple LaserWriter Pro 600/630 to work on 64 Bit Machines

Hi everyone, I just wanted to post a success story of mine as I was attempting to get an Apple LaserWriter Pro 600/630 printer to work on my 64 Bit Vista machine.
I read on a few posts, namely from this topic, that you could trick windows into thinking that your apple printer was actually an HP Laserwriter III printer (or in my case, a LaserJet rather than LaserWriter), although almost every topic on that subject referenced a website containing the drivers, which has been down for nearly four years. This is the most recent copy I could find of that website discussing the issue I, and several other users, was experiencing.
In short, whatever computer is physically connected to your apple printer (note that this can work for networked setups), you need to select a Laserwriter III PostScript Cartridge v52.2 driver. In my case, I didn't have that driver, although I got away with installing the printer as an HP LaserJet IIIP PostScript Cartridge v52.2.
The test page just finished printing off, and everything seems to be working fine!
I really hope this benefits someone.

Make sure you compile as a 32 bit app.

  • I lost my hard drive contents and itunes wasn't backed up. Can I recover the library from my iPad?

I lost my hard drive contents and itunes wasn't backed up. Can I recover the library from my iPad?

You won't be able to recover you entire library from your iPad but you can recover some of its contents by transferring the purchases back to iTunes. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 This will not transfer anything you did not purchase from iTunes, for example music or video files you had stored on the HD and you put into iTunes. Without a backup that information is gone. One very important thing to keep in mind. Once you sync the iPad to the new iTunes it will remove all the afore mentioned music or video files from the iPad. Do not sync with iTunes if you want to keep those files. Hope that helps.

  • Itunes wont run and now i lost my cd drive

I installed itunes to my windows xp computer and after the installation I tried to run the program. It would not run and now I lost my cd drive. I deleted itunes and then in order to get my drive back I would have to use the windows restore program. But, every time I try to reinstall itunes it does the same thing... program wont work and lose my cd drive. Please help me someone...

Success! I've finally got itunes up and running on my computer. What I did was go to my control panel and clicked on 'other control panel options.' Here I found the java plug-in icon which I updated, it's pretty straightforward to do that, if you click on it, you'll find the option to do that. I then clicked on the Windows start menu and on programs which said 'apple software update'. I clicked on this and it said searching for software. It found the new version of Quick Time and a security update for it. I installed both of them and double clicked on itunes and instead of expecting it to show the usual error message it started launching! I'm well pleased. My cd drive is still missing but I should be able to find a way to restore it. Hope this info helps someone who's having similar problems!

  • I have an old (read ancient) Apple Laserwriter 12/640 PS laser printer that I want to print to using my PC (running Windows 7). Suggestions?

I have an old (read ancient) Apple Laserwriter 12/640 PS laser printer - that still prints exceptionally well - that I want to print to using my PC (running Windows 7). Suggestions? While using Windows XP Pro, I used PC MacLan's version 9.01 and it worked beautifully. PC Maclan is no longer in business. Windows 7, however, doesn't even recognize any Apple printers in any of its lookups. Suggestions?

The LaserWriter 12/640 PS is a PostScript Level 2 and PCL5 printer with support for LPD (http://support.apple.com/kb/ta21876). How is the printer connected today? An external cable adapter (such as the Apple Ethernet Twisted-Pair Transceiver Model M0437) would allow Ethernet. Providing that an appropriate printer driver can be found (it may be worth checking whether a universal driver or a driver for a similar HP printer could be used), it should not be impossible to set up LPR printing under Windows 7.

  • HT203167 lost my hard drive how can i get songs from ipod back to new computer

I lost my hard drive and want to get my music back on my new computer. How can I get songs from my ipod to my computer? I am afraid to sync it and losing what is on my ipod. Any help would be appreciated.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • Configuring an Apple LaserWriter 12/640 Printer to work with Mountain Lion

I have an Apple LaserWriter 12/640PS printer that works great.  But since LION and now MOUNTAIN LION I cannot connect to it.  Previously I had an ethernet cable going from my D-Link DIR-635 Router to a LocalTalk (AppleTalk) adapter which then plugs into the printer into it's "Ethernet" (AppleTalk or also called the EtherTalk) port.
OK now I no longer have the D-Link router, rather a new (latest 5th generation) Apple Extreme. More info: my ISP changed some things and the LaserWriter is now "set" on an IP address of:  192.168.0.123  which seems to be out of the range of my ISP allotted numbers – but perhaps I can change that manually by accessing my ISP's modem via the website / setup area??
BUT I am thinking that since I really only need to print to this LaserWriter from my one MacBook Pro running 10.8.2 Mountain Lion – could I not find either a Parallel to USB adapter or some other (USB to DIN8-"LocalTalk" port)???  I used to have some software and a cable (Parallel to DIN8) for my PowerBook back in 1994 that let me print to a parallel-port only printer back then, seems like yesterday actually…
The LaserWriter has these 3 ports:  LocalTalk (DIN8 type I think); EtherTalk (not an RJ45 cable!) and Parallel.
I also have a G4-733 Mac from 2001 that can startup in OS 9.2.2 -- but I don't seem to find the Printer with that (via the Ethernet cable to the adapter to the EtherTalk port of the LaserWriter printer).  This G4-733 does not have "DIN8" ports - just USB (I believe 2.0 but not certain - USB 2 came out in 1999 so I think this is 2.0 and I can check when I next boot this Mac).  It also has FW400 and SCSI but don't think that helps much for printing.  Ethernet RJ45 of course also.
Any ideas on what to do here.  Again, it worked before via my current set-up and perhaps the key is just changing the IP address (or enabling this address via my Apple Extreme or via the ISP's modem setup via the web address).
Hope this is somewhat clear--- think I have most of the information on one page here.  I can run tests, buy adapters or cables if necessary-- have enough cartridges to print another 10,000 pages at least!!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Stephen,
Somehow I missed this topic as well. For that printer, you would attract more attention in another area (this one).
You have a number of options along the lines of what greg sahli suggested. I do not have that exact model LaserWriter, but I have successfully used a wired print server, a wireless print server, and a USB to parallel cable adapter to print from current production Macs to a similar model LaserWriter. All three options worked effortlessly. As long as yours is a PostScript printer, which it is, it should work.
See this post for details and options: Laserwriter Pro 630, Mountain Lion, and Macbook Pro
