Lost apps after 4.0.1 update

I synced my phone before installing the new update. My phone had an error while performing the update and I had to restore my phone. Now that it is restored and updated, I am missing a bunch of apps. There are a few that were free when I got them and now you have to pay for them. Is there any way to get these back at all and even better without having to buy them since I had already installed them when they were free?

This happened to me as well, and it's infuriating. Somehow, I was able to go from a 3GS to an iPhone 4 without losing a single thing -- very impressive. Then a stupid, simple upgrade to 4.0.1 wipes out all my apps. I synced right before I upgraded, so I had a perfectly good backup, but for some reason, it didn't restore any apps. I had spent hours organizing them, too, and it'll take me days to go through and figure out which ones I still have on my PC were on the device.
After several attempts of resetting and restoring, it looks as though iTunes has overwritten my good backups with these empty ones. I had to resync all of the apps from my PC to my phone again, and then go through the painful process of reorganizing everything the way I had it.
Hugely frustrating.

  • HT201272 Lost apps after software update

Has anyone lost apps when they downloaded the new software? I had a magazine subscription which I now don't have since updating my iPad.

They should be in the iTunes library on your computer.  Connect the device and sync what you would like to the device.
The only time I've heard of apps not re-appearing on a device after an update is when a user interrupts the upgrade process.  Have you tried a restore of the device using the backup created just prior to the update?

  • Lost apps after upgrade to 5.0.0.591

Like many on this forum, I had the upgrade to 5.0.0.591 pushed to me by Verizon.  In general, I have not had nearly as many problems as many have reported on this forum, but I have lost a couple of apps including Audible player and Shazaam.  Are there any known fixes to these apps?  Details below:
My Blackberry Tour 9630 recently updated itself to a new OS version.  I am now running v 5.0.0.591 (Bundle 1002, Platform 4.2.0.272).  In the process of the upgrade, it seemed to break the Audible player (version 1.4.12) that had been working fine up to that point.  It is now listed as "Unavailable" in the applications list.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.  Additionally, Shazaam Encore 2.5.1 will no longer run.
Any suggestions that you might have would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Stu Rich

    Stu,
I too have lost apps when I upgraded from version 4.7 to version 5.0.  Ddi you find out if they are trying to fix it?

  • I've lost numbers after trying to download update

When I tried to open numbers after attempting to download update a box came up that said unable to purchase numbers at this time. I then found that the app had disappeared from my iPad along with all my work! Can I get it back?

The App Store is OK in the U.S. as you can see here.

Try closing the App Store, and reset the iPad all over again. Then try again.
Closing apps in iOS 7 works like this. Drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Lost apps after updating to iOS 4.2.1 Help please! =(

I updated my iPhone 3Gs to the iOS 4.2.1 and lost a lot of my apps.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried to install the apps again but I have to buy them. I don't want to pay again. They also disappeared from my iTunes in the computer. =(
During the update, I had to restore the phone once, but I saw that it backed up all my data when I first plugged it in. I don't know what could have happened. Help please!

All iTunes content on your iPhone - all music, movies, tv shows, and 3rd party apps should be in your iTunes library on your computer. iTunes content in your iTunes library cannot be erased when syncing an iPod, iPad, or iPhone, or when installing an iPhone firmware update. Regardless, it is a good idea to include your iTunes library with your computer's backup along with all other important data stored on an external drive or some other external media used for backup purposes only.
Did you have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes? If so, after downloading an app with your iPhone the app will be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so.
No iTunes content on your iPhone - no music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, or 3rd party apps is included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process.
You can re-download a 3rd party app and you won't be charged again for a purchased app as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download the app that was used to purchase the app originally.

  • Lost Apps after updating iTunes

I updated to the latest iTunes (11.1.5.5). My iPhone 4S froze upon first attempt to connect. And it was recovered with an old backup that lost stuff. The phone is now 7.1.
BUT ALL my apps but one are now gone from iTunes.
Just a free voice memo for iPad remains (and yes I am looking in All, not just iPad apps.)
Most important for me, I lost OnSong and Guitar Tool Kit, which I use daily and do not wish to have to purchase again.
They are still on my iPad, but not in my iTunes, so I cannot put them on my phone.
To complicate things, I somehow ended up with 2 different accounts.
One is under this, my home email address, the other is under my Hotmail address.
Logging in with either address shows the same thing, 1 free app and none of the apps I paid for over the years, like games, and other apps, show up anywhere.

Thanks. I did not realize I could just go to the Store and click on Purchased under Quick Links!
But I did do a lot of searching around help first, after you provided those links. Thanks.
I AM curious about something, I stumbled on this...
    Transfer purchases
You can transfer your iTunes Store purchases into a new library, after connecting the device, with the menu item File > Transfer Purchases from <Device>. You should be prompted to authorize the computer to your iTunes account if you have not already done so. If your device holds content from more than one account you will need to authorize each one. In some cases it may be easier to extract all media at one time at step 4.
To bad there is no such thing as "Transfer Purchaes from..." under File in ITunes. It would be very helpful if it did exist.

  • Lost apps after update

When the 3.0 update came out I lost Facebook and Shazaam. I tried to redownload them but they install button is grayed out. The programs still show up in the iTunes application folder, but they're nowhere to be found on my phone.
Today I just installed some updates to other apps and I lost one of them while the other is there but it is displaying the wrong icon. The Gym Buddy app is displaying the old Grocery IQ icon.
One final issue is that synching is reorganizing all the apps into alphabetical order. How do I stop that next time?

I've figured out part of the solution. Facebook and Shazaam somehow obtained ratings of 17+ and therefore became invisible because my phone restrictions were enabled. But how those two apps get that rating and others do not I have no idea.
I'm still perplexed as to how the Gym Buddy app is displaying the wrong icon and I'd love to know how I can stop the updates from reordering the apps.

  • PDF Viewer classfied as downloaded app after 1.3.1-update

After updating my Pre to 1.3.1 today, I noticed that the PDF viewer was listed as a downloaded app with an unknown author (in the System info application's software list). However, IIRC, it was installed on the Pre when I got it, and was (correctly) listed as a preinstalled app before the 1.3.1 upgrade.
    Is this a bug?
Post relates to: Pre p100ueu (O2)

    Thanks for your answer
I updated directly from 1.1.3 to 1.3.1 (as this is the official upgrade path for the German version) - perhaps it was different with 1.1.3?!
When you look at the details of an installed app (by tapping on it in the software list), the information window that appears also displays by whom the app was developed. But for the PDF viewer, it just says "von Unbekannt" (which means "from Unknown"). I think it should say something like "from Palm". That's what I meant with my last statement, sorry if it was a bit confusing.

  • Lost apps after re-installation of ITtunes

After a disasterous system crash I had to reinstall ITunes 9.2 from back up. I now have apps on my IPhone that are not in ITunes so I can't get updates for these. If I sync the phone with the apps in ITunes I will lose all the apps on my phone which include purcased apps from the Apple IStore. Any easy way to get the apps back into ITunes with out having to buy them again?

  • Can't open certain apps after 10.10.1 update?

After upgrading to 10.10.1 (Yosemite) today, there's a few apps that I can't open anymore (Safari, iTunes, and possibly a few others).
It seems like all of these apps were open when I started the install (and the computer restarted itself during the upgrade process).
Different user accounts can't open it either (even new ones), and turning off all extensions (hold shift while starting computer) hasn't helped either. Along with repair permissions/disk.
    Not sure what's going on.
The crash log is pretty long for each, but they all show this in common towards the beginning:
    Exception Type:        EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes:       KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000000
Anyone experiencing this or have any ideas how to go about this? [would really really prefer not to do a clean install]

Understood. But from time to time, I have been required to upgrade certain packages at work separately due to vulnerabilities and bugs (OpenSSH comes to mind), so doing an update that claimed to fix some bugs in the native X11 version seemed to make sense.
Upon further examination, an answer was near the bottom of the very same page I'd just quoted:
+In a few words, you no longer start /Applications/Utilities/X11.app at login or launch the X11.app. You make sure the DISPLAY environment variable is NOT set, and then you simply issue the command, or click on the icon, or whatever, and the rest happens automatically.+
This seems to work: I un-set DISPLAY on my system (and removed it from my profile files), logged out of my sessions, and X apps worked without my explicitly launching X11. It's kind of nice to have X working again without having to first launch X11 by hand (or with launchd, if you can figure that out). I have to say that I'm nervous about seeing DISPLAY paths like this again:
    /tmp/launch-RUXNTu/:0
... since the last time I had trouble with SSH, it was because this value was being forwarded on to remote hosts, to which this string doesn't mean a thing. But that doesn't seem to be happening now, for whatever reason.

  • Can't open AppStore and Email app after installing the OSX Update 10.8.3

Hi there, after I installed the OSX 10.8.3 update I can't open my Email and App Store apps. This is the popup message that appears when i try to open those apps. I tried to reinstall the app but I can't open my App Store. I also downloaded and installed the OSX Update 10.8.3 and the 10.8.2 again from the download support page, but I couldn't solve my problem. Does anyone knows how can i fix it?

    Back up all data.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
