Lost Audio; Story of First Project

I've enjoyed reading the experiences people have posted about their first project in FCP X, so here's mine... (via Dropbox). I've never used FCP, but have been using iMovie. As a newbie, I found I have three advantages over more experienced users:
- I don't have to unlearn FCP.
- My iMovie experience was a real plus.
- The missing pieces of FCP X that are important to many, do not impact my start at the bottom of the learning curve.
I have run into one serious problem since I wrote my article for our AppleGram: In moving some Events and Projects, using FCP X, I've lost all the audio in both files, except for some audio source files in Events. Any help will be appreciated...

Hey guys, these questions are very helpful, guiding me to better explain what is going on/not going on!
No audio is not playable in clips, either event or project, play or skim.
Yes, I see waveforms both places.
DB level was set to 0 db and still looks correct.
No RED icon for audio.
Yes, this project played perfectly and was exported successfully; trouble began when I moved it.
No, audio is not detached from video.
Yes, see the waveforms fine.
BTW, I'm now on my 2nd install of FCP X; on the first install I NEVER had audio in Events, but it was OK in Projects.  After the "move" that started all the trouble, same problem in both Events and Projects.
Thanks again!

  • Lost audio file embedded in project

OK, weird... I was playing around with adding sound to my slideshow. It was about a month ago, and I forgot what I did exactly. Sigh. Anyway, now music begins to play when I start playing the presentation. I can't find the sound file. Is there some way to a) find the sound file and b) delete it. Or at least disable it? I tried "saving as" with advanced options, but the "copy sound file with project" was greyed out. Sure would appreciate knowing how to get outta this. Thanks!

It seems like you have your sound file set as a "soundtrack" for the entire presentation, rather than associated with a specific slide.
Click on the Document (far left) Icon in the Inspector, open the Audio submenu, and you probably will find your "missing" audio file in the Soundtrack window. Delete it from there and all should be well again.

  • File lost in logic pro x project

Can I find lost audio tracks from a project that I bounced?

Hi there Eriksimon, I am happy to report that the files were found and my project is back to its original form and saved in the desktop.  I have learned a few valuable lessons in the last 3 days of this mess.  First, save your project in a master file and leave it alone.  Second, do not revert to the panik click mode. Thirdly and most important, call Apple to the rescue...  I spoke with Larry today somewhere in Texas and he helped me find the files and restore my project.  I have still lots to learn about managing my files but I will get there... I the meantime all I wanna do is compose music.  have a great weekend!!!

  • HELP! No Audio Clip 01 Silent lost audio no sound

Hello, need help with the following please:
I have three projects that I created in imovie 4. I only imported them in iMovie 4 and then saved them on my external hard drive. I should note however that I had problems with that hard drive, i.e., sometimes not all folders/files would transfer just by dragging the main project folder. So I would have to manually drag media and cache subfolders. Continuing, I like to edit files from my internal hard drive, so I dragged the three projects back some weeks later. By this time however I had already upgraded to iMovie HD. The transfer back to the internal was not a problem. But when I opened one project and played the first clip “CLIP 01” there was no audio. But all other clips DID have audio. When I worked with the other two projects I had the same problem: only CLIP 01 had lost its audio. All three projects were were filmed in Digital8. I tried all of the following attempts at solving:
    -     restarting iMovie
    -     restarting the computer
    -     turning on/off different tracks in all possible combinations
    -     changing iMovie sound volume
    -     changing computer speaker sound volume
    -     extracting audio
    -     extracting audio with wave form
    -     showing clip volume levels and checking to see if those were at 0 %
    -     creating a new blank project, and importing CLIP 01 from one of the other movies to see if the audio would magically show up
    -     changing the name of CLIP 01 to something else
after all these attempts failed, I went back to the original DV tape of one of the projects and imported the first clip, once again.
Unfortunately, I have already re-used the tapes of the other two projects for filming something else.
If anyone could offer any other solution, or has any idea what might be going on, why I lost my audio on only the first clip in three different occasions, I would really appreciate it. I want my audio back!!

First of all, though it may not be relevant to you, Miguel, but it may be a warning to others: when using an external hard disc ALWAYS make sure that the disc is formatted as "HFS+" or "Mac OS" BEFORE you start copying anything onto it, as a disc formatted as something else (..e.g; PC DOS or Windows..) will lose some of the vital info about your stored files, and thus they'll NOT replay properly in iMovie!
As all the rest of your clips, apart from Clip 01, seem to be OK, that doesn't seem to be your problem. I do remember someone else having this kind of trouble, but I haven't been here on this Discussion for a few weeks, so I may be a bit out-of-date, or have lost the original discussion about this ..so others may know more about solving this than I do.
Try playing the clip in QuickTime, and see if the audio plays there. If so, Save the clip in QuickTime as a DV clip, and that ought to save the sound correctly, too. (The audio settings should be set as 48 kHz.)
Sometimes a STILL frame at the very start of a movie corrupts the beginning (..possibly audio too; can't remember..) so if the very first item in your movie is a still frame, put a bit - any bit - of movie in front of that, just to 'kick start' iMovie as a movie player, instead of as a still picture player!
These audio problems sometimes happen if the video has been recorded - in the camcorder - as "12-bit" or "32 kHz" audio. iMovie prefers audio recorded as 16-bit or 48 kHz audio. If you have your camcorder handy, and playing the clips in QuickTime (see above) doesn't help, try setting the camcorder's audio settings to 16-bit/48kHz, then exporting (.."Sharing"..) those clips back to the camcorder, then re-importing them. That just might fix it.
I thought that Matti Haveri had an answer to this problem, but I've just searched thro' his replies in iMHD and in iM3/4 but can't find any reference.
Perhaps he'll come and explain further if you call him.. put both index fingers to your head, and say "Matti Haveri, Matti Haveri.."

  • Doing first project with film. EDL questions.

So I'm doing my first project with Super16 in a month or two and I've got a couple of questions. The workflow will be shoot on 16 > edit in 24p DV > finish on film. I know how to do almost everything right up until we finish editing, but actually getting all the information ready to do a negative cut is something I don't know about. How does Cinema Tools factor into this? What do I need to do about the audio? What sort of windowburn or keycode information do I need to have? Do I do anything different when I import the 24p DV footage? Your help is greatly appreciated.

I have not done what you are attempting, but my understanding is that you should get flex files to bring into Cinema Tools that reflect the keycode/timecode relationship created in telecine. From there you can export a cutlist that should give you keycodes that the neg cutter can work from.
Have you read the manual for Cinema Tools?

  • No audio imported after first clip

I have been dealing with this issue for about 3 weeks now. I can import the clip with audio when I import the very first clip but afterwards all clips have no audio imported into the project.
It is bizarre. I have not found anyone online having the same issue. I am using Premier Pro CC.
I will probably have to erase the application and reinstall, but I was hoping there was a simpler option.

here are two posts. Don't know if they will help you. I thought I saw posts like yesterday and day before. The links don't look like they will work, but they are a copy and paste from browser window.

Hope all this suggests a solution...
    Thanks for your help, all...
    T

Thanks for all this information, T.
So why are you editing a 1440x1080 video in a 1920x1080 project? If this is AVCHD footage, it's very important to use the right project settings.
That has no effect on your audio, of course. But it could affect your video quality when you output your file.
That say, can you explain what you mean by "Audio missing from save project"?
Do you mean that you don't hear the audio in Premiere Elements -- or that you don't hear it when you output, say, an MOV or WMV file?
What file format are you exporting and what are you playing soundless this file on?
And, finally, is there no audio whatsoever, or is only some audio (music, for instance) missing from your output?

  • How to get audio files to follow project tempo??

Im tryin to figure out how to get my mp3 audio files to follow project tempo and transition up or down to any specific tempo.. is there any way of doin it? thanks

    Hi,
Yes, you need to convert them into Apple Loops. First, you have to convert them to either AIFF or WAV format (or use the original WAV). You can do that in the Audio Bin. Drag the converted file onto an audio track.
In the Arrangement window select the newly created region of the audio file. In the Arrangement window menu under 'Audio', choose >Open in Apple Loops Utility...
Next, take look at p 618 in the LP8 Manual 'Creating Apple Loops in the Apple Loops Utility'. That should/may get you there.
    regards, Erik.

  • First project with 16:9 film

I am doing my first project with film that was captured using the 16:9 mode on my sony camera. My question is if I have to do anything different when importing this footage from the DV tapes to FCE? I noticed there are many posts on this but just want to make sure I am taking the right steps. Thanks.

Anamorphic refers 16:9 and has nothing to do with audio. 32K is the audio sample rate. FireWire Basic should only be used with Canon cameras.
You can select the captured items and in the Anamorphic browser column check them to tell the application the material is supposed to be treated as 16:9.
Also make sure you make a new sequence that's in the correct widescreen aspect after you've changed to the correct settings.

  • First project completed with FCPX Music Video

I just finished up my first project with FCPX
Its a music video for one of my songs.
I shot and edited the video myself with the help of wife and daughter. The video has since gone off to
a video production house, to transfer to broadcast format for here in Australia (digital beta) and its on its way to TV stations for broadcast.
I have very very little experience with video, and had only just gotten FCPX a couple of weeks before along with
the new canon hfs 20 which i used to shoot the video. It was a whirlwind learning curve 8).
I learned plenty about what not to do the next time I make one. 8)
I got some really great help here on the forum and wanted to say thanks, I wouldnt have been able to do it without it.
    www.ozlandmusic.com
is my website where you can see the video.
I have no previous experience as I said with video editing, before FCPX and found the process reasonably intuitive.
It was great to be able to sync the video and audio together..and the effects in FCPX were easy to use, as was keyframing which
i didnt even know existed a couple of weeks back 8)
I really like the product. I am happy with how the video turned out, and I am looking forward to making a better one next time.
    Again thanks for the help
    cheers
    Wiz

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
re first bit of video editing...8)
well, I had used iMovie a couple of times to transfer VHS tapes to DVD and sony home studio once about 4 years ago, and I used windows movie maker once.... but I had never done any "editing" so I take your comment as a compliment.
I literally have no more experience than that.  I guess its a testament to how easy FCPX is to use for someone new. I found the things like keyframing, very intuitive, and I have a strong audio background (logic, cubase, sonar etc) and have run a recording studio for many years. So I applied the same sort of techniques to video ediiting, eg look at other peoples work, and try and work out how they do what they do, and then try and duplicate it. There are a wealth of training videos available, and I watched a heap of those, within the first couple of weeks (you tube videos) about how to do things like keyframing, color correction, effects, transform etc.
I certainly am not trying to portray myself as a newbie, whilst secretly having years of experience.  I honestly only just started and I hope you can take me at face value.
Just wanted to clear that up.
Again thanks everyone for your support and well wishes. Perhaps some day I can repay some of that to the group.
    cheers
    Wiz

  • Loading off DVD's audio file of last project Plays

I load files off DVD from my church recorder, 1 st project goes great !! Next project off next DVD won't accept new audio plays audio form last closed project    Need Ideas Please!!!!!!!!!!

When new audio material is imported into Premiere it converts the audio to 32bit and saves the new audio file in the Media cache. This new file is then used when editing. What I expect is happening in your case is that the 2nd dvd has the same file names as the first, Premiere thinks the audio is the same so does not redo the conversion to 32bit. To get round this problem delete all the .pek and .cfa files in your Media Cache Files folder. You can find the location of this file by looking under Edit-Preferences-Media in Premiere. I'm on a PC but there will be something similar for a Mac. When you then import your second dvd the audio should be reconformed.

  • How can i use a breakpoint on the first project ?

It's not in a release mode.
The first project the upper one the Capture is set to class library and Active (debug)  Active (Any cpu) Any cpu
The second project the TestScreenshot is windows application Active (debug)  Active (Any cpu) Any cpu
