Lost Auto-Fill password

I recently logged in to a website and it told me my password expired.  It then took me to another screen where I entered a new password and told Safari to remember it.
Unbeknownst to me, what this last screen really wanted was my pre-existing password, not the new one I wanted to select.  But now the original password is no longer visible in Keychain Access (that is, I changed it in Safari but not on the website).  Is there any way that I can revert this change?  For example, does Keychain Access keep a backup of earlier stored passwords?

What version of OS X are you running?

How do you transfer all of your saved auto-fill passwords from Safari into Chrome?
It won't let me do it in Preferences/Personal Stuff/Browsing Data

Are you referring to: Manage Saved Passwords ??
Your passwords are stored in Keychain Access   /Applications/Utilities
Select Options (Preferences on Mac and Linux; Settings on Chrome OS).
    Click the Personal Stuff tab.
Adjust your password settings in the "Passwords" section:
Select "Offer to save passwords" if you want Google Chrome to prompt you to save your password every time you sign in to a new website.
Otherwise, select "Never save passwords" if you don't want Google Chrome to ever save your passwords.

  • Auto-fill/password data deleted following Safari crash

So, I've been having a seriously large amount of problems with Safari crashing over the past few months. Usually it just shows the spinning wheel of death, sometimes it just automatically reloads every page/tab I have open (if anyone can suggest a fix for that it would be great).
However, this time it crashed and it appears to have completely wiped out all of my auto-fill/password data that I had saved. As this is a personal computer and nobody else uses it, I had a lot of passwords saved into it (most of them for low security risk sites). As everybody knows, a user often has hundreds of usernames/paswords for a huge number of websites. I can't remember them!
I'm concluding that as they've all been deleted, I'm going to have to go through the arduous process of clicking the 'forgotten username/password' to retrieve these details; however, now whenever I try to save back in the auto-fill, it's not really working too well and just isn't saving it, despite me choosing for auto-fill to be operational on the website.
Any help would be massively appreciated to sort this, as having to keep entering my usernames/passwords - urgh, let's just say this is the biggest first world problem since before bread was sliced!!
    Safari version 5.1.10
    Mac OS X Version 10.6.8

Passwords are stored in Keychain Access located in Applications > Utlities
Launch Keychain Access then select Passwords on the left.
Type in the name of a website you've visited that autofilled the password.
Then double click the website name the select the Attributes tab then click: Show password
You may be prompted for your admin password to proceed.
If you want a website to re remember the password, right or control click the website name in Keychain Access the click Delete.
The next time you login to that site and enter your password you should be prompted to save that data to a new keychain.

  • Script to auto-fill password?

Any idea if there's a script I could use to auto-fill password in the ultra-annoying username/password prompt?
I asked Apple if I could circumvent this and they said no.

From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Passwords
and delete the password(s) for the site in question, after making a note of them. The next time you log in to the site, save the password in the keychain. Test.

  • Auto fill passwords is no go

I know this has been discussed a billion times but I can't get in any answers by reading the old posts. Since I'm brand new to Mac this "key chain" deal is just about the most dumbest thing I have ever seen (can you tell I'm ******) lol
I have been a PC user for years. I could type one password in Norton Identy Safe and the computer automatically  logged in to pay my bills, forums, and online banking, everything....not with a Mac!!???
I use strong passwords in which they are difficult to type much less remember.
I have brand new MBP 13" with Lion 10.7.4 and have tried keychains, auto fill is "on", etc....
I manually build keychains and they will not work.
It was doing good at first by asking would I like to remember passwords, username, but it quit. I mean it actually autofilled there for a short period of time but "poof" its gone now. Everything is still there in keychains...just not working.
    Help would be greatly appreciated!
    thanks

I've got the same problem. Migration Assistant moved everything else over okay, but for some reason Safari can't connect to all the usernames and passwords that are stored in the Keychain. iChat could and NetNewsWire could... but the AutoFill stuff just isn't working. And I'm looking at all of them in Keychain Access right now!

  • 2013 Safari not auto filling password

Safari suddenly stopped auto filling userids and passwords.  I rechecked all of my "Auto Fill" preferences and they are fine.  It also is now saying that the password is changed and do I want to save the new one.  If I say Not Now I get signed in so perhaps the password keychain is corrupted; but, if I do say to save it, then the next time I sign in it still doesn't work.  Seems like Apple released a revision without testing everything.  Isn't that Microsoft's trick?

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • Safari auto-fill passwords gone?

Just got a new MacBook Pro 2ghz on Tuesday. Used the migration assistant and all appeared well with one exception: Safari has lost my saved usernames and passwords. I had about 150 from my old machine (which are still there), but they did not migrate to the new laptop. The list in Safari only shows the usernames, so I cannot use it to re-enter the information.
The real problem is that I cannot figure out what settings/preferences to copy over to remedy the problem. I have tried moving the forms pref (in the Safari folder in the prefs folder in the user folder), no dice. My keychain looks like it was transferred fine, but there are several passwords not saved there (?) or so it seems.
Can anyone shed any light on this? I have access info to hundreds of sites that I need to get. By the way, bookmarks, icons, etc, all transferred fine.
    Thanks,

  • Auto-fill passwords doesn't work anymore...

Something funny has started happening - up till recently when i went to a website that requires a Username/Password Safari would automatically fill the fields in. (I'm the only user in the house so it's OK!)
But now, it seems to have stopped. So I have to open Keychain Access and look up the password and fill it in manually which is a right pain!! What might I have done to stop Passwords being automatically filled in, or what can I do to restore it?
    Thanks in advance!
    Andy

Note that there is a delay before the screen will lock. Try waiting a few moments after the screen saver kicks in especially if you're activating with the mouse corners.
If that doesn't work, I'd try trashing the com.apple.security and com.apple.dock plists. Those are the only ones I think could be related to this feature. You could also make a new user account and see if the problem occurs there.

  • Upgraded to 8.3, now auto fill is not working. I have checked, rechecked my info, saved passwords, etc. to no avail. Is this bug in 8.3. Never did this until I upgraded.

Upgraded IPad to to 8.3, now auto fill is not working. I have checked, rechecked "my info", "saved passwords", etc. to no avail. Is this bug in 8.3. Never did this until I upgraded. Wife is not happy I upgraded!

Auto fill works for me in iOS 8.3.
Try the standard troubleshooting steps in this order:
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds). No data will be lost.
Restore: Connect your device to iTunes on your computer, backup, and then select Restore to Factory.
See here for more details on restore: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201252
If none of these work your device may have developed a hardware problem. Contact Apple Support: http://www.apple.com/contact/

  • After updating to 4.0 I lost my list of auto-fill logons. How can I get back?

I used to have a feature that captured my logon ID's and passwords to that the next time I went to that site Firefox would auto-fill the ID and password. After I updated to 4.0, I lost this capability. How can I get it back?

    * Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
    * Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
    * In [[Private Browsing]] mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
    * In [[Private Browsing]] mode Firefox won't fill names and passwords automatically.
    * Do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

  • Passwords and Auto Fill not working...

All of a sudden, new passwords are not being retained and auto fill doesn't work at all. I've repaired permissions, checked every setting I can think of. What should I try next?
    Thanks,

I had a similar problem with autofill. Repairing permissions with Onyx seemed to work. (But first, double-check that Autofill is enabled and your "me" Address Book card is correct.)

  • Safari password auto fill security concern

Just discovered what I consider to be a big security concern with iCloud Keychain. If you go into Settings, then Safari and your iCloud Keychain is under stored passwords and auto fill, the passwords are stored in plain text with no asterisk or anything. This means that all someone needs is your 4digit unlock code and they are then able to view all your stored passwords in Safari. They should at least require your iCloud Keychain password to view these, or just asterisk them out. If someone saw you enter your four digit unlock code, and then put your phone down, they could get this information without you even knowing it. This is not safe.

The purpose of that section is so that you can see your passwords, there wouldn't be much point in replacing them with asterisks. They are password protected, just don't give others your password.

  • Auto fill website passwords

How do I add a website to auto fill once it had been removed from the password list?

    You're welcome

  • Auto fill-in passwords

In 2.0, I used the 1Password App for auto fill-in. I installed 3.0 and activated auto fill-in in Settings. However, if a site logs me out automatically, how do I cause Safari to enter the password when I log back in? 1Password fills in the User ID and password every time, but for some reason Safari in 3.0 seems only to fill in the User ID? Perhaps I configured it wrong.

I think this information is stored in
    /Users/Library/Safari/Form Values
I've no idea if it's possible to read it (opened in TextEdit, it's encrypted).
But I wonder if it's possible to use a unix command that concatenates the two Form Value files on each Mac into one? If you want to try this make sure you keep a back up of each original Form Value file belonging to each Mac before messing about. Safari should be closed too.
Copy both files onto a single Desktop, you'll need to name them uniquely, say FormValues1 and FormValues2 (note no spaces) then type this command in Terminal (Applications/Utilities):
    cat ~/Desktop/FormValues2 >> ~/Desktop/FormValues1
Then rename FormValues1 back to the original name of Form Values and move it back into the correct folder:
    /Users/Library/Safari/Form Values
I expect you'll have duplicate values in that file now and I've no idea how Safari will handle this scenario, maybe it will clean up but so long as you keep a copy of the original Form Values files you can restore the status quo afterwards. Good luck.
