Lost Bluetooth Hardware?

Have a (white) MacBook which came with Bluetooth installed. I subsequently purchased a bluetooth mouse and keyboard from Apple. Then, I had a hard drive crash and had to replace HD. About the same time I updated OS to 10.5.7. Not sure which, but I finally got around to using bluetooth and found that the bluetooth utilities are "hidden" in the System Preferences. It says I am missing the Bluetooth module.
Not sure what to do. Computer sees mouse and keyboard, says they are paired but not connected. Is there something I can download from Apple?
Thanks in advance.

Digging deeper, I found an answer in a previous post that I had missed. Number 2 below worked for me. GW

There's two things you can try.
1) Delete the com.apple.Bluetooth.plist file from ~/Library/Preferences/ and restart the Mac.
2) Reset the PRAM as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379

  • Lost Bluetooth after firmware update 2.0.1

    After updating my 15" MacBook Pro with a Broadcom chipset I have lost the Bluetooth hardware. If I go to System Profile it says "No information available". If I try and do a Bludtooth set up in system Profile.... Network it says the system has no Bluetooth hardware. Any thoughts?

    Have you tried a simple restart? My bluetooth has been known to wander off at times (not on the Air but on my PB G4). You can try resetting the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411. This has helped me in the past.

  • IMac 5,2 Core2Duo lost Bluetooth - Fixed

    This may apply to all Macs, but I have only one iMac that has lost Bluetooth so it was only tried out with that.
    Our older white iMac 5,2 lost Bluetooth one day - no warning, no reason, it was just gone.  I read the forums and tried everything, resetting SMC or what ever, re-installed the original Mac OS that came with the iMac, nothing made any difference.
    I took a punt on a £2 Bluetooth USB dongle from Amazon, what do you know it actually works!  It is seen by the iMac as if it was the original Bluetooth hardware, uses the built-in drivers.  I don't know at this stage how well it's going to work over the coming weeks or months, but it's looking good as it will only be used for Apple keyboard and mouse (from the same period), and they paired without any problems.
    The actual name of the item on Amazon was Super Mini USB Bluetooth 2.0 Wireless Adapter Dongle - OEM, I'm sure a simple search would find it.
    For all those losing Bluetooth, after having tried the suggestions in these forums with no luck I would say give this a try.  I plugged the dongle directly into the back of the iMac, this is not a problem for us however as it effectively replaces the wired USB connection that the original keyboard used.

    And to add more information to my prior post, Airport is also nonfunctional after the 10.5.2 upgrade. Unlike the bluetooth problem, System Profiler sees the Airport card, but trying to configure the Airport under Network fails. The button to turn the Airport on is greyed out, and I haven't found another way to turn it on. I've tried resetting PRAM and SMC, rebooting, creating another user account. I've also re-installed 10.5.0 (archive/install), and that brings back both Bluetooth and Airport operation. When I then apply the 10.5.2 combo updater, the OS can no longer find the BT hardware module, and the Airport card can't be turned on. Rebooting under Tiger fixes it all, so I think I'm safe in saying it's the 10.5.2 update that's breaking things.

  • Lost bluetooth on my toshiba

    I have lost bluetooth in my machine and would like some1 to help me troubleshoot this.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    According the specs here, your computer does not come with the Bluetooth hardware built in.
    It's confusing because Toshiba includes the Bluetooth software.

  • Lost Bluetooth iphone 4

    I lost bluetooth. When I go to "Settings" under "General" Bluetooth shows OFF. When you click on Bluetooth it doesn't give an "on/off" option just the spinning wheel of death. I have turned it completely off, I have reset network settings and I have turned off and on airplane mode...I finally connected it to Itunes and downloaded the latest software version 4.0.2 and then restored everything. It doesn't even show a Bluetooth Icon in the top right corner of the screen. Any other suggestions?

    Update... I also lost WiFi a couple of days later. I took the phone to Apple store and they did a "restore" and still nothing. They said it's a hardware issue and replaced the phone.

  • Mac Mini Bluetooth hardware problems ?

    I own a Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo 1Gb bought last October, an Apple wireless keyboard and an Apple wireless mouse, both I formerly use without any problems with my old Powerbook G4. By now, I used them with my Mac Mini it worked perfectly fine. But since two or three weeks, I’ve got big Bluetooth connection problem. Randomly, after one or two hours of use, both keyboard and mouse loose connection and the Bluetooth symbol change itself into a strange one. I had a look on your site to learn the meaning of it and the symbol is see which is a Bluetooth symbol with a horizontal zebra means that no Bluetooth hardware can be found! Does my Mac Mini built-in Bluetooth card have problems?
    Since I haven’t got any wired USB keyboard or mouse I have to reboot my Mac Mini quite roughly. Sometimes one reboot is enough to make the Bluetooth of Mac Mini to work again, sometimes not and I have to wait a little bit more (more than ten minutes). I can see it works again as the Bluetooth symbol is the right one again (the one with the dots).
    It is very annoying. And I am a bit sad to have such problems with Apple stuff. Is there something I could do to avoid such a waste of time? Or shall I call Apple Care for fear it should be a hardware problem.
    Of course, I use brand new batteries for both of them.

    My mini is doing it as well. Just started doing 2-3 weeks ago. Logitech Denovo or Apple Bluetooth. Doesn't matter which. Loses it in about an hour or so. Al Keyboards and mice were purchased at about the same time as the core 2 duo mini, ~ last October.
    Must power cycle the machine to get it back and it must be paired again. Very annoying. Can't remember if it coincides with an Apple update.
    This mini has had the superdrive replaced twice, once within 6 weeks of purchase. Ever since Leopard, it's been close to the best media head. now this...
    Sigh.
    (What makes it not the best? Frontrow doesn't sort titles correctly [1, 10, 2, 3 - wrong!], doesn't force mount aliases in the movies directory, doesn't put out 1080p without hacking. And I'd so love eyeTV integration with Frontrow. It'd be perfect then.)

  • [Solved] bluetooth hardware switch - Thinkpad T400

    Hello,
    I've got a Thinkpad T400 with integrated bluetooth, but I don't really use bluetooth, so I want to disable it to save battery power.
    I figured out, how to disable it via laptop-mode-tools on startup, but when I use the hardware switch for Wlan and bluetooth to turn my Wlan on and off again bluetooth starts up again.
    I also figured out that I can disable bluetooth via "echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/bluetooth_enable".
    I want to put that command in a script, that is only executed, when the bluetooth hardware is detected.
    Now I'm wondering if any of you guys knows some script, like that.
    I've already had a look at the udev files, but I couldn't figure out which one will do the job.
    Maybe it's the wrong way and there is a lot easier solution.
    Thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated,
    David

    I do this for disabling Bluetooth on my X220 ThinkPad using Fn + F9.
    I created the file /etc/acpi/actions/bluetooth.sh
    #!/bin/bash
    BT_RFKILL=$(rfkill list | grep tpacpi_bluetooth_sw | sed 's/\([0-9]\+\):.*/\1/')
    BT_STATE=$(/usr/sbin/rfkill list $BT_RFKILL | grep "Soft blocked: yes")
    if [ "x" == "x$BT_STATE" ]; then
    /usr/sbin/rfkill block $BT_RFKILL
    else
    /usr/sbin/rfkill unblock $BT_RFKILL
    fi
    exit 0
    And the file /etc/acpi/events/bluetoothconf
    event=button/f24.*
    action=/etc/acpi/actions/bluetooth.sh
    Restart acpid.
    # systemctl restart acpid.service
    Now I press Fn + F9 to toggle bluetooth off and on.
    Rfkill needs to be installed for this to work.

  • What bluetooth hardware am I missing and where do I get it?

    I just purchased a bluetooth keyboard but can't connect it to my Dual-Core Intel Xeon running Mac OSX 10.5.1. I get an error message reading:

    In order to use this application, you must have a Bluetooth module. Please verify that your Bluetooth hardware is properly attached to the computer.

    You can find the Apple Bluetooth card on eBay for as little ten dollars (says its for the 2008 model Mac Pro, not sure about the 2007).
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bluetooth-Board-iMac-and-Mac-Pro-922-8233-922-8233-/1208 49278570
    Here is a link to a full explanation of the card and how to install it. Part numbers may differ a bit as that is an old article and newer models have come out.
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/Mac_Pro/Bluetooth_MacPro_install/Bluetooth_Ma cPro_install.html
    Just make sure that the part will work in your model Mac Pro. To that end, you may be better off avoiding eBay and going to a parts reseller. There are even third party cards that use the internal Apple bluetooth slot.

    In theory, using a USB or PCI card will work at login so long as it is recognized by Apples drivers. You say you need to launch an application to use your current USB Bluetooth dongle? If it is not controlled by the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar then it must be using a third party driver of some sort. Unfortunately, I don't know off hand which USB and PCI cards are supported.

  • Requirement for bluetooth hardware

    Perhaps something very simple is eluding me, but WHY do some files/"applications" require bluetooth hardware to be opened? I don't see any relationship between some of these and wireless connectivity.

    Hi,
    To be able to answer your first 2 questions, we need to know what is the model/product of your machine (DV6 is a series of hundreds or even thousands of models/products). Please use the following way to find out:
