Lost bookmarks in Safari

For some reason I have lost all the bookmarks in Safari. I have tried to restore Safari from TimeMachine but I still don't get the bookmarks. Are these stored somewhere that I can retrieve them? If so how?

You've probably tried it but . . .
Right click on Find in the Dock and select bookmarks ?

  • Lost bookmarks after Safari crashed

I just realized I lost all bookmarks when Safari crashed. When it crashed, I did the test account and Safari worked there. Then went back to my account and dragged the cookies file out, it worked again. I didn't think that would have affected the bookmarks. Are my bookmarks somewhere to be found? Thanks, Vicki

    Hello Vicki,
Did you trash the cookie.plist file & empty the trash if you did not empty it check the trash bin ? Moving the cookies.plist file out of the Cookies folder should not , I am sure it did not affect the bookmarks, something else must of happened.
Are you sure it was not the bookmark.plist file. Go to Home/~Library/Safari is there a Bookmarks.plist file there ?
    Please let us know.

  • How to fix lost bookmarks in Safari on my iMac?

How do I recover my lost bookmarks?  I've gone thru all the fixes posted at different support sites and nothing has worked.  I started rebuilding my bookmarks and then lost those.  This happens without a reboot or shutdown.

    Using Time Machine restore:
    com.apple.Safari.plist
You can find this file in:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
If you do not have a backup then they're gone.
The easiest method to do all this is:
Open a Finder Window - Go Menu - Click Go to Floder.. and copy and paste:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
    tap the enter key
Open Time Machine, go back to a time  you know the bookmarks were there and restore.

  • Bookmarks in Safari gone

Help! my bookmarks in safari on macbook are gone for some reason... is there any way to restore them? and i do not have the time machine backup :/...does the system somewhere keep these files?????

I also lost all of my bookmarks after the ios6 upgrade on my 4S  Not only that, but when I try to add a bookmark it won't add it to the bookmarks section.  So frustrated that this new ios6 is so buggy.  I am also having trouble connecting with my wi fi despite multiple solutions suggested in the other forums, but that's another story.  Apple needs to get their act together.

  • Lost Bookmarks

This is part of a larger problem I'm having....
I first noticed it when iTunes would tell me my Library file was corrupt and force me to create a new one.... every time I opened iTunes.
Then a repair of permissions from Disk Utility and a reboot caused my desktop to default back to the original settings. (yes, iTunes lost its Library file again.)
Another reboot has cost me my bookmarks in Safari, and any attempts at fixing my desktop. (Thus far, I have not lost any files. But now that I've said that, I'm afraid to reboot.)
Can I possibly find my bookmarks on the HD or are they forever lost?

Hi, Jason, welcome to Apple's user-to-user discussion forums.
Unfortunately, Safari does not make backups of your bookmarks file. It would be up to you to make backups by going to the ~Library/Safari folder and making a copy of Bookmarks.plist by highlighting the file, pressing command-c to copy the file, and then command-v to put the copy in the folder or in some other location of your choosing.
Another way to backup your bookmarks is to export them. Go to File on Safari's menu and click on "Export Bookmarks" which will export your bookmarks to a standard html document. Remember the location you export them to. If you needed to get the bookmarks, you would then go to the File menu and click on "Import Bookmarks" and you would choose the file you had exported. If you use this technique, all your restored bookmarks would be in a "imported bookmarks" folder.
I know these tips will not bring your lost bookmarks back, but they should help you form loosing them again in the future.

  • How can i retrieve the lost bookmarks on my ipad ?

How can i retrieve the lost bookmarks from my ipad ?

See if this gets them back.
Quit Safari completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus  sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Archive & Install: Lost bookmarks

Whenever I archive and installed Leopard onto my macbook pro, I seemed to loose my firefox and safari bookmarks, although my firefox was not lost itself.
Is there anyway to recover these?
    Thanks in advance!

Recently, I lost all my Safari bookmarks when transferring data from my old iBook G4 to a MacBook Pro.
The iBook requires an Archive & Install because of a "kernel panic" as diagnosed by Apple Support. But before I do, I would like to recover those bookmarks.
I can find my Firefox bookmarks easy enough under library/Application/Support/Firefox/Profiles/d6f8tado.default/bookmarks.html
but for the life of me I can't locate the archived Safari bookmarks.
There is a file under library/safari called "bookmarks.plist" but I can only open it up as a wingdings text file. Am I close?
    Please advise. Thanks.

  • Is there a way to get my bookmarks in Safari on my iPhone into Firefox Home?

i browse around in Safari on my iPhone, and bookmark things.
is there a way to export / sync / transfer these bookmarks i made in Safari on my iPhone into Firefox Home on my iPhone?
or into Firefox on my Mac (because then it would just sync with my iPhone Firefox Home)?

    Hi teethandbones,
There may be a simpler way to do it, but I know you can set your iPhone/iPad to syncronize bookmarks with Safari on your Mac. You could do that first and then import the bookmarks from Safari into Firefox.
    Just a thought!

  • Is there any way to create a bookmark in safari that automatically creates itself for every user/account that logs into the computer?

I am currently trying to add in a bookmark to Safari that will be automatically created on every account on the Mac.
Is that possible? Or is the only way to do such a thing, to have to add it to each and every Safari on each individual account?

    No, unfortunately.

    Yes.

  • New iPhone 6. Windows 8 desktop. Running Firefox browser as my default. Would like to sync my Bookmarks with Safari on iPhone 6.

New iPhone 6. This s my first iPhone. Windows 8 laptop. Running Mozilla Firefox browser as my default. Would like to sync my Firefox Bookmarks with Safari on iPhone 6.
It would be nice if Firefox was available on the iPhone, but apparently it is not.
If I could do a direct sync of Bookmarks between Firefox on a W8 machine and the iPhone, that would be nice.
Assuming I can't, I have installed Safari of my W8 laptop,
I exported my Bookmarks from Firefox, and then imported them in Safari.
    First question:
Safari shows my Bookmarks in a way that is different from Firefox. It shows all the folders fown the left side of the window. If I want to see a saved bookmark within one of the folders, I have to click on the folder name and then the contents are shown in a separate panel off to the right. Can I get all Bookmark folders to open up vertically, that is, down the left side and under the folder name as they do in Firefox?
    Second question:
How do I sync the bookmarks so that all hoes-based bookmarks are downloaded to my iPhone. An articel I read speaks of connecting my iPhone to the laptop. I have no idea of how to do that.
Thank you for any help. Not sure what Community to post this in. Sorry. Newbie new to A

I have loaded my Firefox bookmarks into Internet Explorer Favorited. I also uninstalled Safari.
I go to iTunes on my phone and see no wat to connect my iPhone to my laptop. I see Music, Shows, etc., the kind of stuff I would expect, but no clue as to how to proceed.
Would you please be so kind to fill me in on how to "That syncing is done via iTunes. Connect the device to iTunes, select it, then go to the Summary page and select to sync bookmarks."?
I am not sure what you mean by "Summary Page"
    Thank you

  • I would like to import my bookmarks from safari. Can I do this?

How do I import my bookmarks from Safari to Firefox?

    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_bookmarks#From_Safari
    Exporting bookmarks from Safari
Go to File->Export Bookmarks. Safari saves your bookmarks in an HTML file. Save the HTML file to the Desktop or any other location of your choice.
    Importing bookmarks to Firefox
Go to Bookmarks->Show all bookmarks. This will open up the Bookmarks Library.
    Click Import and Backup...
Select Import Bookmarks from HTML.. from drop down menu.
Locate your HTML file exported from Safari.
You can use Safari Bookmark Exporter to export bookmarks to a simple HTML file, if exporting to an HTML file is not supported by Safari.

  • After upgrade from 3.6.28 to 12.0 I lost bookmark functionality

OS is Windows XP 64-bit SP2. Upgrade from version 3.6.28 to version 12.0 doesn't work properly because I lost bookmark functionality. Bookmark menu is there, but no bookmark entries.
    - I tried to add a bookmark (visit a page, then 'bookmark this page'), but that doesn't work: no error message, but nothing is bookmarked
    - I tried to restore bookmarks from previous Firefox (yes i previously made backup), but that doesn't work either. I tried that in 2 ways:
    1) Show all bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Restore -> Choose file -> bookmarks-2012-05-06.json;
I get error message 'Unable to process the backup file'.
    2) Import and Backup -> Import bookmarks from HTML -> bookmarks.html;
I get no error message, but nothing is imported.
    - I tried to rename places.sqlite to places.sqlite.old and start Firefox. Didn't help.
    - I tried to uninstall Firefox and make clean installation (didn't keep old settings), but that didn't help either. Bookmarks don't work.
    - In the past year I tried to upgrade Firefox 3.6.xx to previous versions (i think they were 4.x, 9.x, 10.x), but I ran into the same problem, so I reverted to 3.6.xx. Problem this time is that 3.6 is no longer supported, so upgrade is not optional.
Thanks in advance for your help.

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
