Lost category name in "Finder"

On the left of "Finder" where it says applications, movies, music, documents, pictures, etc. I accidently removed "movies". I still have all the movie files on my hard drive but how do I put the name of that category back into Finder? At the moment, I can only find those things through "spotlight."

I've just edited this reply, to say the Sidebar preference in the Finder
does not appear to change the area you mention losing the Movie icon
from; so I wonder if there is a default preference that could be restored
by removing a .plist; yet I am not sure where to look to find said item.
Thought I had an idea, and after checking further, that was not the case.
And rather than post a nearly empty post (it won't let me do that once I
edit, or time out in a post) I am noting this.
Not sure if you can drag an item back into that Sidebar; or if a keyboard
command would need to be used while dragging with the mouse.
I've seldom used the sidebar in the User account to navigate anywhere;
in part due to never using the User account that way in any OS X so far.
From what I recall having read, you should be able to drag iMovie into
that Sidebar to get the equivalent of an alias restored back into it.

Can we change Category name of default categories present in OIM 11.1.1.5 User Attribute Form.For Eg:-
Provisioning Dates to Important Dates.

I think I saw the category names somewhere, check Agent.properties inside oracle/iam/configservice/agentry/resources in OIMUI.jar and see if it's there. This prop files has labels for user attributes and so categories should be there, if not there was some jar which has properties file which has those label listed out. Don't have access to any env now myself but you can try searching urself too, may be you will find it.

Big problem with relation for category name

I using this view fnd_flex_values_vl for relation with this table mtl_categories_b for display category number and category name but I can't find any value set for make the relation good and number y name of category

Your question is not clear.
Have you tried the category_concat_segs column in mtl_categories_v ?

Having problem with display of full name in finder bar!

As shown in the image above, my full name in finder bar is not showing properly. When I select 'icon' from system preferences it shows correctly, but when I select full name or short name, it touches the top.
Help me fixing this issue!

The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Boot in safe mode and log in as yourself. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
Test again. Same problem now?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

In Snow Leopard at least, you can do this by in the Finder going to the Finder menu, selecting Preferences, then clicking on the Sidebar icon at the top, and then ticking (re-enabling) the option to show the Search for Today entry.

Application Category view in Finder

I rather like the Application category view in Finder but it is not currently of much use because so many of my applications fall into the 'Other' category.
I assume this is an attribute of the file and can be found and changed somehow.
Does anyone know where this metadata is stored and how to change it?

Thanks for this. Now just the final piece of the jigsaw to find out what reloads the Finder view to pick up the new category. If anyone can help that would be great. I have tried rebooting so it isn't that.

How to unfold long names in finder?

I wanted to have full names by default when using my finder. It takes a lot of time when the OS shortens the names, most of the time the important parts.
The waiting with the cursor over the name is too long to be practical.
The alt+click takes too long and cant give me full view with many files at a time which is the most important thing when searching by names.
I will give you a basic example of why i need this:
I want to check a couple of files in a folder which contains files like
Unit 3 part 0- Introduction of web
Unit 3 part 1- Design of web
Unit 3 part 2- Problems of web
Unit 3 part 3- Managing users of web
Unit 3 part 4- Final result webs
which ends up in folding like -> Unit 3 par....web
for all 5 files, and wasting like 20 secs searching which are the names of the files i want to access is continous waste of time.
Any of these solutions may work for me
1.I want to preserve the full name in finder files and folders. Always full name
2.Having no time when placing the mouse over the file to show instantly the full name
3.Allowing the configuration for full name in all view styles.

If you are using the column view in Finder, you can control - click to get the column to expand. You can't set that as a default to the best of my knowledge.

Have you tried running lsof from the Terminal?
Lsof will show you any files that are open, the likelihood is that your file is in use.

Keynote data labels, can I show category names instead of data values?

I'd like to recreate the chart below in Keynote. The chart below is an excel line chart with the lines removed. In excel I can opt to show category names instead of values for the data labels. Can I do this in Keynote?

You can select member name or alias or both in the Dimension property while creating the form.
It is in the same window as explained earlier, you need to just select both the Member and its Aliase to be displayed on the form.

Name in Find User Results Form

Hi:
I need to hide (or quit) the first column (Name) in Find User Results Form. It is possible?. There is a function that indicates all of columns, but the first column is not there.
If is not possible to hide or quit it, can i move it to another position?

If you do this method, you will not need to edit
Find User Form
OR
Find User Results Form !
This simplifies the problem greatly.

Different File Name in Finder vs. File Name in Console?

I'm trying to rename the Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder.
As root, I use mv in Console. I do ls and it shows me the new name.
Finder couldn't care less. Finder keeps showing "Internet Plug-Ins".
I could see OSX not letting me change the name of an "essential" system folder in the first place -- but how could Unix be showing me a different name than the Finder?

Oh just ignore me -- I wasn't typing sudo every time...
