Lost communication with DAQ (NI-6008) through labview

I currently use four USB-6008 devices through labview as part of a teststand. While troubleshooting a separate issue I lost the ability to communicate with the devices but only through labview. Using other NI software I can use the analog I/O but not from my labview program. I am a chemical engineer so I've already exhausted my limited computer knowledge, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If MAX can see the devices, and collect data thru them, then your hardware is OK.
(Max is the Measurement and Automation Xplorer program).
Assuming that's the case, then I would suspect a naming change.  You can rename the devices in MAX, perhaps when you didn't mean to.
Check your ERROR outputs of the NI-DAQ calls.  That's what they're there for. Put a probe on the ERROR outputs of INIT TASK, START TASK, whatever you're using.
The more professional programs expect those errors and handle them, if you're doing a one-off kind of thing, it's easy to think you don't need them, since it worked the first time out, but they really will give you info that you need right now.

  • Communicating with HP signal Generator through labVIEW

Hi I need to know the Command String for recieving a numbered string from an HP function Generator which is comma delimetered and can be used to plot a graph in labVIEW 7.1. It would be usefull if I could also get the command string to recieve the same result from an Agilent Oscilloscope. I have tried several recommended command strings, however all of them return an error. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you

How can anyone provide you with the command for an instrument when you don't even mention the model of the instrument.
Do you have the instrument manuals? The commands are all listed there and if you don't have the manual, go to www.agilent.com and do a search for them. Have you tried to find a driver for the instruments? NI has thousands of drivers already written. Go to http://www.ni.com/devzone/idnet/ and search.

  • Lost communication with the scanner of my LaserJet Pro CM1415 fnw color MFP with Windows 8.1

I have just upgraded my PC to Windows 8.1 (it came with Windows 8), and now I have "lost communication" with the scanner element of the CM1415...... The printer part is working fine!
I have read various fixes for other printers for 8.1, but does anyone have any experience with this particular model and this particular problem?
PS. The latest HP driver available for the CM1415 states that it is the same as the one delivered in the box.......

    Hi RTB2014,
Welcome to the HP Forums,  I hope you enjoy your experience!
I understand you are unable to scan after updating the computer to Win 8.1.
I will be happy to help you.
Did you uninstall the printer software and reinstall the downloaded drivers?
If you didn't then I would uninstall and reinstall the downloaded drivers.
I have provided a URL to uninstall the printer software.
Fully uninstall the printer in Win 8.
You can download the newest drivers from this link. Select the operating system and click next.

  • Losing communication with DAQ devices - help greatly appreciated

    All,
I have been working on a VI whose function is the following:
    - Acquire data from three sources
         - A block of eight displacement sensors connected via RS232 (using a USB adapter)
         - An NI-USB 6210 card measuring voltages across eight batteries
         - Another NI-USB 6210 card measuring voltage across four load cells (these correspond to batteries one through four).
         - Data acquired at 1 Hz, written at 0.2 Hz (no buffer - simply writes one fifth of data recorded)
    - Open/close a relay board based on certain inputs
    - Provide basic UI functionality to control data manipulation, display data, and write data to text files
    - Write data to text files
We have run four tests with this VI.  Each test runs for anywhere from 24 to 48 hours.  During three of these four tests, we have lost connection with one or both of our NI DAQ cards.  I have attached one of the output files - notice that in the 'Current (mA)/Voltage (V)' and 'Load (N)' columns, at a certain point on of the cards starts reading 'NaN', followed soon after by the other card.  Note that this has happened on two different computers, one laptop and one desktop, both of which had hibernate/sleep disabled.
For your reference, I have attached the VI.  This VI will not run as there are some subVIs that I have not included; these subVIs do not do anything critical to the execution of the program.  The program generally runs as follows:
    - Initially, a subVI runs that aids the user in selecting the appropriate COM port and USB devices.
    - The VISA device and DAQ cards are initialized, all relays are opened, variables are initialized
    - In parallel, there are two producer timed loops, one consumer for loop and an event loop
         - One producer loop continuously acquires voltage data from both DAQ cards.  When the loop is over, basic DC voltage values are taken from all samples in each buffer, and the values are enqueued
         - One producer loop acquires one reading per loop from the displacement sensor (via a VISA Write -> VISA read), and the response string is enqueued.
         - The consumer loop runs at a similar timing as the producer loops (blocked using queues).  It manipulates, displays, and records acquired data. It also opens relay channels if the corresponding displacement values are greater than a set threshold.
         - The event loop opens text files for writing when a button is depressed, as well as performing basic tasks such as clearing graphs, etc.
What is the cause of this issue?  What am I doing wrong?  This error is preventing us from running tests at our company.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Bryan

    Wayne,
Thanks for your reply.  Unfortunately, my knowledge is limited in this area.  We are using an ADU208 USB relay from Ontrak (information here: http://www.ontrak.net/ADU208.htm).  We are using the bundled subVIs to open/close each channel of the relay depending on the acquired data.  How could this relay board affect the DAQ communication?
It may also be important to note - I have tried to make this VI so that all devices need not be used all of the time.  That is, sometimes we choose to not use the relay, sometimes we choose to not measure load, and sometimes we choose not to measure current.  This means that we do not always have the same hardware connected, but the software runs the same and deals with the resulting errors appropriately (hopefully).  The previously attached output file is from a test where the relay was not connected, however the relay commands were still run (and presumably threw errors).
    Thanks again for your help

  • Trying to export iMovie to youtube and it says lost communication with internet. I am on the internet?

I get a lost communication prompt when i export to youtube.
Also for another project I get no head room?

I've tried everything, including exporting to Quicktime with the settings suggested by youtube...nothing seems to work and I keep getting the same message:  Unable to Prepare Project for Publishing.  The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-50)
The original name of the project had parenthesis and I even renamed it so now its just simply "Going Nowhere"

  • Lost communication with internet

I am using Windows 8 and I lost my safari and Internet Explorer connections.  The following error message keeps appearing,"There was a problem communicating with the web proxy server (HTTP) CFURL ErrorDomain:360  How can I get back connected ??  My wireless priner connection ha been lost also

You might have had a piece of malware installed to your computer that changed your proxy settings. Please try this:
    Open Start
    Type: "Internet Options"
Select the Internet Options Control panel item from the list.
    Go to the Connections tab.
    Select the LAN Settings button
Uncheck the boxes for "Use a proxy server" and "Automatically detect settings" and then click OK out of all the windows.
If you can get online now, then awesome. I would STRONGLY recommend at this point downloading a copy of Malwarebytes from malwarebytes.org (the free version) and doing a full scan of your computer. Make sure you opt out of the free trial seen at the end of the Malwarebytes installer.

  • Lost communication with the printer

I have lost communication between the computer and the printer..it was printing just fine and it quit immediately

To have any hope of providing an answer we will need more information.  Please read this post then provide some details. What printer model? What operating system? 32 bit or 64 bit? How is the printer connected - USB, wired LAN, Wireless LAN, bluetooth?

  • Lost communication with JH3

Yesterday I tried to begin a capture of material for a new project. After repeated attempts to reboot, examined all connections, I decided the RS-232 cable must have gone bad. Drove 140 RT to replace it. This morning I did and found no difference.
My next step was to upgrade the firmware on the Kona 3 board and did so. Ran Aja VTR Xchange - beautiful picture and synched time code but the one box says " NO VTR connected".....
Decided to try running FCP and open the Log and Capture window to see what it said. Same thing. Nice picture SMPTE time code appears to be fine- "No Communication". So ...
Now I am down to the deck controls and some hidden internal settings having changed somehow, or continued software incompatibility.
I will say that prior to this issue - I have had splendid synchronization between all of these devices.
    FCP- 7.0.3
    Kona 3-
    Sony JH-3
It seems that one minute FCP setting is off now. I've gone through the Audio/ Video settings and will return to all the preferences settings. But I am confused and don't get it..
Thanks for any help solving this!

    HI Meg,
No the JH -3 is not a switchable on/off  the RS-232 control port. I'll verify with Sony but I've gone through everything on the deck and menu. Unless it was damaged or fried the control board in some way I think I can eliminate the deck. So I am now going to go through all of the settings on the FCP panels and preferences. I must have done something when I used Soundflower to capture audio the other day...
That is all I can think of.....
I use a JH-3 as my play/capture deck as I am still shooting with the Sony HDW-730 - a **** fine camera. I've moved into 2k at 250 fps and 4k at up to 60 fps but for wildlife and specifically Birds... these new cameras are not ready yet. Not for what I do anyway!
If I can figure out what I've done I'll post it up here. I've got to figure it out for the next Job... !!!

  • Communicating with a external application through tcp/ip

    Hi all,
I have set up a procedure to communicate with a external application. I have used util_tcp to set up this connection. The process I undertake is i send some packets to a remote port XXXX on a particular ip address .
    i.e util_tcp.open_connection(host_ip_address,host_port).
I then wait for data coming back, from this external application.
    I then close the connection.
All is fine when I execute this procedure from a AIX server, I get all the required packets back.
But when I execute this procedure from a windows server I manage to send packets of data out to the remote port but i can't read data from the port. When i telnet to the remote machine i could see the packets being sent back but i just can't seem to reas the data/packets. the utl_tcp.available is zero. BUT when i run the same procedure from aix server it works fine.
If anyone can help, much appreciated.
    thankyou
    nahim

Sorry I think I may have not been very clear about what I am asking.
    On AIX Server:
Has Oracle Database 8 on it.
    -I connect to remote port 7097 - c := utl_tcp.open_connection('XXX.XXX.XXX.XX',7097,null,null,null,null,null,null);
    -I send out packets to External App(Schedular) through above connection -      li_return_value := utl_tcp.write_line(c, lc_ClientPacket);
-Schedular sends back Packets through above connection
-Oracle Database 8 checks for data on port
    utl_tcp.available(c) > 1
-Data is available so start to read data
    lc_RawData := UTL_TCP.get_text(c,li_lenOfRawData);
    On Windows Server:
Has Oracle Database 9i on it.
    -I connect to remote port 7097 - c := utl_tcp.open_connection('XXX.XXX.XXX.XX',7097,null,null,null,null,null,null);
    -I send out packets to External App(Schedular) through above connection -      li_return_value := utl_tcp.write_line(c, lc_ClientPacket);
-Schedular sends back Packets through above connection
-Oracle Database 8 checks for data on port
    utl_tcp.available(c) > 1
    - BUT THE DATA IS NOT AVAILABLE so cannot read data. Its as if the packets vanish in thin air or windows is not liking the packets.
When telnet to the remote machine I can see the packets i send going into the port and the packets coming back from sideinwder ready for me to read. But for some reason I can't read.
Its a very odd problem, if the eact same code works from AIX, why not windows. I thought it might be something between Oracle database and windows that needs to be set up. But how can any configuration on the oracle database or the windows platform effect communication on the remote host.
    Any ides please help
Thankyou for the help provided so far, much appreciated.

  • Storage file with DAQ-LVIEW PnP in Labview...

    Hi,
I am using an PLV AI Acquire waveforms and I store the data in a VI for storage on disk.
The problem is that the first row is filled with the number of the line in the buffer (number of samples/channel). My buffer is 512 samples wide so the first row is 1,2,3...512,1,2,3...512.... But what I want is the time in second in this row.
Somebody knows how to do ?
    Regards,
    Bruno.

High level VIs you are using are user-friendly but poor in functionnality. You should have a look to the examples provided in LabVIEW.
Open a new VI and select the Help Menu >> Find examples...
Browse to Fundamentals >> I/O File and then to Hardware I/O >> DAQ Traditionnal >> Stream to disk
For high acquisition rate, the spreadsheet file is not reliable. You have to store data in a binary file and store the acquisition rate and T0 in the header of the file.
    Greetings from Paris.

    Hi,
Do you create VMs on Hyper-V or VMWare? Based on research, possible causes could be:
    1. Files changes in the volume is very huge. So the shadow size may be big and the current shadow storage my not able to hold it. And that’s cause the shadow copy creation failure.
    2. The I/O in D drive is heavy and make the shadow copy I/O failed.
    3. Server is too busy to handle the request.
    4. The disk is heavily defragment.
Please refer to the articles to troubleshoot the issue:
Time-out errors occur in Volume Shadow Copy service writers, and shadow copies are lost during backup and during times when there are high levels of input/output
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826936/en-us
VSS timeouts during backup? What could contribute to that?

  • Lost communication with scanner

Up until yesterday, I had no problem using my networked Epson Artisan 830 printer/scanner to scan documents into Acrobat X Pro that I am running on Windows 7.  However, today I keep on getting the following message: "Error while interacting with scanner: the selected scanner was not found." Photoshop and other programs have no problem identifying the scanner. In fact, I have no problem printing a file through Acrobat either. I have done all kinds of troubleshooting to no avail and am completely stomped. I would appreciate any and all help.

I am having the same problem. I had no problem creating a pdf through my HP scanjet 8200 and cannot find an answer anywhere.

  • Lost communication with OS4

    Hi,
I updated my Iphone last thuesday and since them my phone call drop one time on two? It's really really frustrating to have a such amont of drop call. The communication just stop and after I heard the beep sound who indicated that the line has drop. I just have a Iphone 3GS not a Iphone 4. Does anybody have the same problem?

Dropped calls are mostly due to your carrier's network; but can also be due to obstructing the phone's antenna. Software can also be an issue, but the carrier's network is the biggest culprit typically.

  • MBP losing 'communication' with printer!!!!!!!!!

    Hi
I don't seem to be having as many printing problems as many people but I do have one recurring issue.
Often when I try and print a document nothing happens, if I check the printer icon it says the computer has lost communication with the printer.
If I pause printing and then resume it ALWAYS prints perfectly.
This does not happen all the time but very frequently.
    Any ideas?
    HP AIO C6180
Install of Leopard was archive and install.
    Cheers.

Any suggestions would be appreciated as we have tried everything we can
    think of
    ============================================
    Hi Jeff,
I do not know what OS you are using but is it possible that the OS
scheduled tasks with higher priority threads start working after a periodic
interval. In such scenario freezing of your application is possible. Try
working with only systray, explorer in the background when your daq
    application is launched.
Another possibility is use of old version of printer driver - some HP
printers do not have Windows 98 drivers.
I worked with SCXI 1200 and the Chassis and had no problems on Windows 95 -
although I didn't acquire data for a long time.
    Hope this helps
    Good luck

  • Logic / OS X randomly losing communication with firewire devices

    Hi
Connected to my MBP I have a Lacie FW drive with an Apogee Duet daisy chained to this.
During a Logic session yesterday all of a sudden I received device removal (warning) messages for these two items although they were still connected to the relevant ports!? I also had to force quit Logic following this.
When I reconnnected the devices were recognised but things were still not right as when I tried to change the volume on the duet the system was very slow in responding.
I was running of the battery power but this has never happened before whether connected to the mains or the battery.
    Any ideas/should I worry?
Everything seemed fine a couple of hours later when I restarted the system but I am uneasy about the potential for this to occur during a more important session.
    Any advice greatly appreciated
    Cheers
    Sam

    Hi Sam
I have an Imac, same operating system as you (10.5.8) and also the Duet. Also got a Lacie external hard drive. i have also encountered this problem in the last week. however, I have had this problem in both Logic 9.02 and Record so it seems it isn't just a Logic problem.
One question - was Airport on when you lost communication with your hard drive? My was and when I turned it off the problem has not occurred again. It may have something to do with it although I'm not technically minded so I wouldn't know why.
