Lost connection and playing without movies internet

My Apple TV and iTunes are both updated to the latest version.
Lately I've been having real trouble playing movies (my own - not purchased) from my Apple TV, which seems to be related to my Internet connection.
The other night we were half way through watching a move and Apple TV suddenly disconnected from iTunes. A minute or so late it connected again.
More annoyingly, recently I can connect to my iTunes library via Apple TV and the remote, can navigate to movies and select a movie, but then the movie will never load. I get no error messages.
I can play my movies form iTunes using Airplay from my computer.
This only seems to happen when our  Internet connection is down, which happens a lot where we are - epsecially in the evening.
I'm aware the ATV needs the Internet to authorise homeshare, but in this case my box is letting me access my library and select a movie, it just won't play or drops out if it does. Which seems to occur in tandem with the  Internet dropping out.
Anyone have this or any ideas?

Thanks for the reply.
The local exchange in our area is at capacity, so everyone get's drop outs, we have to put up with it until it is upgraded.
But how should this effect me wanting to watch my own movies on my local network?
Like I say, I understand theat iTunes needs to verify my Apple ID for home sharing, fair enough, but I don't understand why -  because the external Internet connected is lost - Apple TV should boot me off watching a home movie on my local network right in the middle of it.
Last night I had to keep running to the computer to play via Airplay - which worked perfectly.
These issues have only started since the update before last.

  • Lost Mode and Play Sound are "Pending."  However, iCloud indicates that it connected and backed up to iCloud at a date that is 1 week after it went missing.  How is this possible without locking (Lost Mode Pending an internet connection)

    Hi,
My wife lost her iPhone two weeks ago while on vacation in London (cell service inoperative in foreign country).  Using Find My iPhone app on my device, I activated Lost Mode and Play Sound.  However, both are listed as "Pending," since it those actions require the phone to connect to the internet (wifi only due to no cellular data coverage.).
We recently returned home and purchased a new iPhone.
However, when looking to restore the apps/settings from her old phone using a previous iCloud backup, iCloud indicates that the old phone connected to iCloud and backed up the original phone at a date that is 1 week after it went missing.  How is this possible without locking (Lost Mode Pending an internet connection)?
If the phone was activated and connected to the internet via a wifi signal, shouldn't it immedately lock, show up on the map, Play Sound, and send me an email that the phone has been found?
I also read somewhere that if running iOS 7, the iCloud website interface enables you to track previous locations, for instance if the phone moves from wifi hotspot to hotspot.  Is that true?  If so, how do I do that?
Thank you for your time, and have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    - Matt

just giving this a wee bump as time is of the essence here and i need advice/ answers quick!
apologies if i've broke any rules!

  • Flash Player download keeps failing with lost connection and then gives up.  satellite Internet connection

    Win XP. Firefox 34.0.5 (latest)
The Flash  Player download keeps failing with lost connection and then gives up.I am on a  satellite Internet connection.
It seems to be extremely slow even when loading the installer which is only 1MB. Then when I run the installer and it starts to download the installation there are frequent messages about losing the connection and then finally gives up.
I have had problems with other software failing when I am on a satellite link. This is most likely because of the huge latency which may be taken as a link failure. Ping times are typically 800ms but can be 2000ms sometimes!

    Hello,
The online shim installer, which you are using actually downloads and installs Flash Player silently in the background.  If your satelite connection is experiencing latency issues it could result in the failure to download.  Please try the full installer posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Windows page, in the 'Still having problems' section.

  • Since upgrading to Yosemite I cannot get directly to Netflix.  I get a message about having to download Microsoft Silverlight.  I can't get that to work and don't want it anyway.  I just want to open Netflix and play the movies.   What should I do?

Since upgrading to Yosemite I cannot get directly to Netflix.  I get a to Netflix and there is a big message about having to download/install Microsoft Silverlight.  I can't get that to work and don't want it anyway.  I just want to open Netflix and play the movies.   What should I do?

I can't get that to work and don't want it anyway.
You need Silverlight. That is the application that plays the Netflix movies.

  • Just purchased Airport Extreme ac and lost internet connection 3X. Reset to factory settings and worked for 2 days then lost connection and remedied by unplugging power supply. Anyone else having problems?

Just purchased Airport Extreme ac and lost internet connection 3X in less than one week. Fisrt time, reset to factory settings and fixed problem. Has occurred 2 additional times and connection re-established by unplugging AP extreme. Anyone else having these problems?  Do I have a bad router?  Thanks.

I definitely think this is a Mavericks issue.  My iMac running Mavericks is the ONLY system in the house that drops the network randomly while all other systems never lose the network.  No idea how to resolve this, but here is the workaround I'm posting:
I've had the 'network drop' issue with my Airport Extreme for the last 2 months.  It reconnects when I pull the ethernet cable and plug it back in.  I've tried downgrading the AE firmware, resetting to factory, etc.  Nothing worked.  I finally threw in the towel and created a script that monitors my network connectivity and restarts my interface if it senses it has dropped:
    #!/bin/ksh
    while true
    do
      yup=`ping -c1 -t2 www.google.com|grep from`
      if [[ -n $yup ]]
         then echo "Internet is connected!"
      else
ifconfig en0 down; ifconfig en0 up
            echo "Down at `date +%m%d%Y%H%M%S`">>./dropped.out
      fi
      sleep 5
    clear
    done
I know its a workaround, but its saving me the headache of constantly pulling my cable and putting it back in!
    Good luck!

  • TS1363 lost connect and ability to sync to ITunes

I have lost connection with my Iphone 5S. New download was interrupted. Now phone scren shows ITunes logo and cord to connect on black screen.

    Hey luci711,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like your iPhone is currently in recovery-mode. To resolve this, you will need to restore the iPhone with iTunes:

  • Another lost connection and abysmal customer servi...

Sorry about my username (registered today), but that is mild compared to how I feel.
I have spent most of the day trying to report a faulty line - cannot make or recieve calls. Every time I have tried to report the fault or speak to someone, I have been directed to a ridiculous robot 'help' srevice which has tried repeatedly to tell me how to test my appliances. It seems that the customer service phone number has been masked at every attempt to find my way through the maze of unhelpful 'helpful solutions'. Eventually, after finding the relevant number I spent 6 minutes listening to another robot before being told that I was now in a queue estimated to have an average 5 minutes further wait before a representastive became available! All this at eyewatering mobile phone non inclusive tariff cost! Eventually I tried to log the fault by email explaining that I wanted the line fixed and was certain after trying every test available that it was not an equipment or internal issue. Some time later an email came back saying 'I did ran a test on your line and cannot find an external fault - however, if you report a fault, we will send a technician'. I had reported the fault!
So I sent another email insisting that there was a fault and please therefore log it and send a technician. No reply, so eventually (now 7pm) I phoned customer services at mobile phone rate costs again and this time got through in under 10 minutes. The operative then wanted to go through equipment checks again regardles of my request for a engineer's visit: eventually, she said there seemed to be an external fault on the line and she would log a request for an engineer to investigate. I was told I could expect a visit by 5pm next Wednesday (5 days)! I asked if there was any way to escalate the process or any other assistance available and was told no.
How was the fault diagnosed differently each time? Having now looked at the BT customer service agreement, it seems that the fault should be dealt with within 3 working days of being reported, so since I reported it this morning (Fri) surely it should at the latest be fixed by Wednesday morning? Also, what about the cost of mobile phone calls, firstly to BT and secondly any other calls which are now incurred without my my all inclusive BT calls? She didn't mention the offer for compensation which is detailed in BT's Ts and Cs.
Let alone the time and anguish I have endured today. What is more frustrating is that this also happened earlier this year and I was given the same excuses and run around then. Also, BT have never fulfilled their promise to look into my pathetic download speed of .26mb/s, again trying to blame internal wiring issues which have been positively disproven.
All this after 10 years of good natured custom from me - until now.....SHAME ON YOU BT!

Glad to see you've calmed down a bit after a sleep - I was the same as were many others
For the phone line, all you can do is wait until the engineer turns up on Wednesday. If he doesn't resolve the problem then you can escalate this to the mods of this forum. The mods are the only BT people on the forum and they can only get involved after a certain amount of prior fault finding. If you need to contact the mods, get your account info and fault number from your online account details and include them and a link to this thread. (Don't post account details here - only in the email to the mod). You will then get a reply within 3 days (but often faster, mine was half a day) and the mod who contacts you will take ownership of the problem until resolved.
As I said before, if there is a phone problem (noise etc) then this will kill broadband very quickly and it doesn't matter how many resets you get, the speed will quickly drop again. It does this because the exchange is continually monitoring your connection and every time it sees noise or a reset on your hub it slows down the connection until such time as it is stable. It will then slowly speed up again as it maintains stability. This happens naturally and it will typically recover a lot of the speed within 3 to 5 days. If you've been told to wait for 10 days then this is probably after a noise reset at the exchange and the line is seen as a 'new' broadband connection again and therefore a longer retraining period. However, as before, if the phone line is bad it will quickly reduce to 'dial-up' speeds again.
If you go over to the broadband forum from the link I posted before and post your info then some of the experts (mostly customers, not BT) will come along and take you through a process of eliminating where the errors are and how to get them resolved. If you want to see how this process works have a look at my thread Here. I had a similar problem with the same speed as you and the forum and finally mods helped me to recover back to 11Mbps down/1Mbps up. My problem was finally identified as a line fault.
The main advice I'd give for now is:
Wait for the engineer to fix the phone (he may also reset your broadband if lucky).
Contact mods if it isn't fixed.
DO NOT unplug your modem/router unless necessary as this is seen as a fault and restarts the training period.
Read my original post with similar problem.
Post your own stats on broadband forum and take the experts advice - they'll be along soon
DO NOT call India - this will confuse things - leave it to the engineer and then the mods if necessary.
Good luck and ask again if you want more info.

  • How set up Airport to connect Mac to isp connection AND play music and print?

I used to have an AX wifi in the house with which I surfed, printed and played music.
My isp recently installed a new modem/wireless router in my home. I now have lots of great speed but they couldn't help me retain the ability to send print jobs and music to my (2nd generation) AX base station.
I know I'm going to have to do a hard reset of my AX to clear out the mess I've created in Network configurations trying to get things working. But once the slate's been cleared, I still don't really have a clue about "creating new networks" vs "extending" existing ones etc etc...
Can anyone assist me to set up a freshly reset base station to "piggy-back" on my new isp's wifi network for printing and music purposes? Or perhaps recommend/pass along an article or other reference source that would assist me in doing so?

    It is possible.

  • How to transfer notes between your mac and Ipad without an internet connection?

Let's say you write a note on your Ipad. Then you want to use this very note on your macbook (mountain lion) but unfortunately you have no internet connection available at this moment.
Normally, you could just plug in the Ipad using a USB cable and sync Notes via Itunes. However, I've read that this is now impossible because you can only sync Notes via Icloud (requiring an internet connection).
So you really can't sync note if you have no internet?
Is there some note-taking app that could sync via USB?
If not, how can I simply transfer text files from the Ipad to my macbook via USB?
    Thanks you

Yes, you should be able to buy/download apps from the iTunes app store on your Mac and then sync them to the iPad - neither the iPad nor the Mac should need to be connected to the internet to sync the apps over to the iPad
If the iPad hasn't been synced to that computer before then you may find this page useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141

    Hello there pipem90,
Heres an article about that very issue. Check out this article named iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1369.
There is more to the article but start here:
    1. Start with the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant
If you have not already done so, try the steps in the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant which applies to your iPod; this will often solve your issue.
If you're still experiencing the issue after going through each of the steps in the assistant, continue with the steps below in this article. The most likely solutions are listed below (for both USB and FireWire (IEEE 1394) iPod connections). Check each section starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping your iPod from appearing.
Note: To determine if your iPod syncs via USB or FireWire, check the table in the Additional Information section below.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

...if i buy airport extreme, without connecting it to the internet, will it stream my films on itunes from the PC to apple TV?
Yes. An Internet connection is not required. However, of course, the AirPort or your Apple TV will not be able to stream content from the Internet.

  • Solution for transferring and playing  video/movies through HDMI

This solution is for those of you who want to actually USE the HDMI out on your droid X!
I will explain after the instructions what movies will work and what will not (FYI - on my PC I am using Windows 7 but this also supports Mac and my Droid X has not been rooted):
    1) Download and install the Miro Video Converter (its free)  http://www.mirovideoconverter.com/
    2) Drag and drop the video you want into the converter. It will convert AVI, H264, FLV, MOV, WMV, XVID, MKV and Theora to mp4.
    3) When choosing the device to convert to, choose IPAD. ***DO NOT CHOOSE DROID - IT WILL NOT WORK***
    4) By default the converter will drop the mp4 file into the same directory as your original movie file.
    5) Connect your Droid X via USB. Set your USB to mass storage mode under notifications.
    6) Copy the video file to the DCIM\camera folder. After copy you can unmount your phone.
    7) Once your phone remounts the SD card (mine takes a couple seconds), go to your Gallery app. You will now see the videos you copied and can play them. Choose the HDMI option onscreen to kick out to HDMI (you may have to hit the play button that comes up onscreen after going to HDMI)
***REASONS WHY A CONVERSION MAY NOT WORK***
    1) The droid x only outputs 2 CH audio, so your source file and converted file must also be 2 channel audio. This means you have to make sure you are converting a dvd to 2 channel stereo BEFORE converting it through miro. You will get video but no audio if your audio source is not compatible. you cannot convert multi channel surround into two channel through Miro.
    2) If you choose to use another converter other than miro, make sure you convert video using mp4/h264 and AAC for audio. you cannot just drag an avi or wmv file into your droid x, it doesnt have the supported codecs to play it.
    3) make sure the HDMI out is ON (under settings/hdmi)
    4) you have to make sure your Gallery can see the file - there are other directories that may work - I just chose the one when my Droid X was dropping movies I recorded.
I hope this helps everyone that actually wants to USE their HDMI output!
    ~Tom

Nice information,,,,   BUT wouldn't it be easier to just use DVD Catalyst?  I use it now and the vidoes I have made with it using Motorola Droid default stiings works flawlessly with my HDMI cable, I use my Droid as my own portible DVD Player to play on others tvs when I visit.
