Lost connection iMac(Snow Leopard)- MacBook (Lion)
iMac (OSX.6.8) at home, I'm in another state using my MacBook (OSx.7.3). Prior to my upgrade to Lion I could always see the iMac on Finder Devices. Now the iMac doesn't show up. "Back to my Mac" on MobileMe has been disabled due to the upgrade. Finder > Preferences> Sidebar all shared options enabled; all displayable items Finder > Preferences > General are checked. I see no Shared Computer anymore.
Unless there's some way I can upgrade my home computer remotely I suppose I won't be able to communicate with it until I get back there.

Die Verbindung wird zwar ca. 1-2 Minute später wieder aufgebaut, aber am MacMini (HTPC) macht sich dadurch bemerkbar, daß der Film oder die Musik für obige Zeitspanne stoppt und danach weiterläuft. Beim iMac (Arbeitsrechner) kann ein zuvor vom Server geladenes Dokument dann nicht mehr gespeichert oder gedruckt werden.
Der MacMini hat dieses Phänomen direkt bei der Verbindung mit dem WHS gezeigt. Der iMac hat jedoch zuvor ca. 1,5 Jahre ohne Probleme funktioniert. Dieses Problem tritt bei dem iMac (Snow Leopard) erst seit ca. 6-9 Monate auf.
Da unterschiedliche WHS und OS X Versionen betroffen sind und auch unterschiedliche Fritzboxen verwendet werden und scheint ein allgemeines Problem im Zusammenspiel Windows/OS X vorzuliegen.
Bei dem iMac fällt der genaue Zeitpunkt der Verbindungsunterbrechung nicht auf.
Bei dem MacMini läßt sich der Zeitpunkt dagegen relativ leicht bestimmen. Aus der Ereignisanzeige beim Windows Server ergibt sich leider kein eindeutiges Fehlerbild. Zu dem jeweiligen Zeitpunkt taucht aber relativ oft, aber nicht immer (!), in "Windows-Protokolle Sicherheit" der Fehler 4625 ("Fehler beim Anmelden eines Kontos") auf. Dies würde auf eine Rechteproblematik hindeuten. Das Konto des Mac kann aber alles was ihm auf dem WHS erlaubt ist.
Beim Suchen nach einer Lösung (bisher leider erfolglos) bin ich u.a. auch über das Problem des Server Infrastructure License Services (silsvc) beim Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials gestolpert (auch alle 30 min!). Vielleicht ein Zusammenhang?

I run the office and at home each a Microsoft Home Server. In both networks, in addition to various Windows computers, a Mac is available.
The particular "configuration" is as follows:
- Apple MacMini (Late 2011, as HTPC) with Lion via wifi via AVM Fritzbox 7390 to Microsoft Windows Home Server 2011 (Windows Server 2008).
- Apple iMac (Late 2010, desktop PC) with Snow Leopard by Lan on AVM Fritzbox 7270 on Microsoft Windows Home Server V1 (Windows Server 2003)
All operating systems on current conditions with all patches and updates.
The Fritz boxes running with the latest firmware
Now to the problem:
Both Macs are loosing every 30 minutes the contact to the server. The connection is "re-"established about 1-2 minutes later. On MacMini (HTPC), the film or music is stopped for the above period. Thereafter, the film / music goes on. With the iMac (workstation) a document loaded from the server can no longer be saved or printed.
The MacMini has shown this phenomenon directly in connection with the WHS. However, the iMac has been working about 1.5 years with no problems. This problem only occurs for about 6-9 months
Because of different WHS and OS X versions are affected and also different Fritz boxes are used and it seems to be a general problem in the interplay Windows / OS X to be present.
When the iMac is the exact date of disconnection does not occur.
With the Mac Mini, the time can however be determined relatively easily. From the Event Viewer on Windows Server is unfortunately no clear error image. At the particular time but appeared relatively often, but not always (!) In Windows Security Logs the error 4625 (Failed to log on an account) on. This would indicate a rights issue.
Searching for a solution (so far unsuccessfully, unfortunately), I stumbled over the problem of the Server Infrastructure License Services (silsvc) in Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials (every 30 min!). Maybe a connection?Hi, and thank you for your reply!
My reason for not posting this in the server forum is that I suspect it is a clien issue. All my other clients connect happily to the server which leads me to believe the server is configured correctly.
Only my the two MacBook Pro's are having problems. -
Network C7280 through Mac Time Capsule with iMac Snow Leopard, MacBook Pro S and Compaq W7
The HP works fine with the iMac desktop, but the 2 laptops won't print, although they seem to be recognizing the network. Says printer not connected. The HP Photosmart C7200 Wireless Network Test Report and Configuration Page seem to be normal and functional.

View Solution.If you are using Snow Leopard or Lion and have HP software for pre-Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and had the HP software on your Mac before you upgraded - even if you did a standard uninstall of the old software or installed new software over the top of it) you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Hold the Ctrl, Opt and Cmd keys and click on Uninstall <<<< Scrubber Option
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
Restart your Mac
Now reset the printing system:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Reviving an older iMac - Snow Leopard to Lion
I vaguely remember having to upgrade from SL to Lion before I could update to Mountain Lion. I paid for a Lion download but never got a receipt and it isn't in my downloads. Any advice? Thanks!
Receipts from Apple are delivered via email. Not to your downloads folder.
If you want to upgrade to Mountain Lion v10.8, that requires purchasing from the Apple Store.

My new macbook pro (Mountain Lion 10.8.1) will not log into my 1and1 outgoing mail server. ( It will receive mail - but does not send)My old Snow Leopard macbook does not have the same problem ( server settings etc. are identical) . And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.

Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.

Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.

I own a white Macbook pro 2006 core 2 duo OS x 10.4 tiger. More than anything, I want to update this computer. Is there any possible way to upgrade to leopard, snow leopard, or lion?
You can upgrade from 10.4 to10.6 with no problems. Any program that runs under 10.4 will run under 10.6. You might have to upgrade some drivers for printers, etc.... Once you are at 10.6.8 you can buy Lion from the App Store if you have at least a model 2,1 MacBook. Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. Also Lion doesn't run any PowerPC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. WhenSystem Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need an application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With10.7 Lion Apple dropped support for Power PC applications. -
I want to upgrade to Lightroom 5, but I'm concerned about compatibility with my 2008 intel Core 2 Duo iMac with only 4G of Ram. Will I be able to run Lightroom 5 okay if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion? What will happen to the applications that aren't 64-bit compatible? Also the Eye-one Display 2 colorimeter to calibrate the monitor will not run on Lion, so that will be an expensive upgrade to an i1DisplayPro. Is the upgrade important enough to offset the expense? I have an Epson R2000 printer. Will there be problems with the drivers if I upgrade to Lion? It would be great to hear from other mac users who are also photographers and who print their own photos.

Looking at http://www.everymac.com/ even the earliest 2008 iMac was fully 64 bit, even though Boot Camp doesn't support 64 bit Windows on that machine. -
I upgraded the operating system on my MacBook Pro from Snow Leopard to Lion via the web. Now I need to erase the hard drive and restore it to factory settings, so that I can pass it on. How do I accomplish this? When I insert the Mac OS X install disk, the only option is to erase the free space. Any insight would be appreciated.

Once you are running off of the DVD you will be able to do a clean install of SL
To boot off the DVD with the system up running Lion insert the DVD. Open Sytem Preferences->Startup Disk and select the DVD then restart the machine.

How do I send files from my IMAC via bluetooth to my new Ipad? They will not "pair" but they are connected and discoverable. I send a file from Imac snow leopard OS X 10.6 to the ipadusing bluetooth, but the failure message says the ipad does not have the necessary services. What are these? Do I neeed to have iphoto and ms word to send pix and .doc files?
File Sharing over Bluetooth is not a feature of iOS devices. iOS does not include the required Bluetooth profiles to allow this. You cannot add this feature, so you may as well stop trying.

After connecting my Sony camcorder to Imac (Snow Leopard) to import a video to imovie 09 the import window does not open. In the past I have successfully imported videos from the same camcorder. What could have happened? Puzzled
Oh my! Obviously, I don't know what I'm doing. But I do know that my goal was to do both---backup AND free some space. My iMAc is old (2006) and I upgraded it a year or so ago to Snow Leopard. I didn't think I had the capability of backing up without an external drive, but maybe I do since I upgraded. Do I?
But I bought this My Book mostly for freeing space because I like to make cards in Photoshop and I'm forever running out of space when I get too many layers (don't really know what I'm doing there, either).

Thank you so much for beng so prompt with your reply and patient with mine. I tried for so long to see the dialog box with the library listings. When I launched iPhoto, even with holding down the Option key, it kept immediately launching into the full screen. Finally, after an hour of doing it over and over again, it worked when I held the key down for 5 minutes. Then when I was typing my reply, I kept getting a message to "Request Time Out." Didn't know how to do that, so kept hitting the OK button and kept typing for another half minute. Finally, when ready to send, Safari couldn't do it. "Try again" exasperated me until I realized I would have to begin again and use Firefox. When I got there and ready to type, I got the message that my message had been retrienved and did I want to use it?!!

Which operating system are you running? Not sure, click the apple on the left of the menu bar, the click about this mac. It will say version 10.6.x or 10.7.x.
