Lost Connection to a Linksys

All,
I hope I am not doubling up here but I have a little problem. In my classroom I have installed a Linksys wireless router and it works great (for the Macbook, Macbook Pro and PC) for the computers on the system. Except for my Macbook when I unplug the "MagSafe." The Airport has a hard time maintaining the connection. If I begin to walk around my classroom the problem persists! Other Macs/PC in my building do not have this issue nor do I have it at home with my Airport. Is this just an anomaly?
Thanks!

Hi Odamark, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I've read about such things in the past, not sure there was a single cure, but I'd check for a loose card or antennae wire first.

  • Lost connection to other computers using 'LinkSys' router

DSL modem is connected to my Linksys wireless router. I have two other computers connected using an Ethernet cable (coming from the router). Yesterday my internet (SBC-Yahoo DSL) was down for the entire day. In the past both computers connected to the router would work just fine. In fact the laptop would work either connected via the Ethernet cable or with a wireless connection. Today neither of the computers connected to the router will connect. I have not changed any of the settings on either computer. Have reset the DSL modem (turned off and back on) and have reset the router (reset button). Any suggestions on this problem?

Can you connect to the router?
Open a browser and go to 192.168.1.1
    Verify the configuration options.
Also make note of the firmware version.
Then, for the moment, bypass the router and direct connect to the modem. Can you connect to internet then?
If so, check the Linksys web site to see if there is a firmware update for your router.
On my (wired) Linksys, after one of the OS updates (I forget which one) I could no longer get to internet until I updated the firmware on the router.
Since there has been an OS security update in the last week, and if you downloaded/installed it, then your problem began, its possible that is the problem.

  • "Lost Connection with AIM" repeatedly

    Hi there,
I'm using a new Linksys WRT54GL router with the DD-WRT v23 firmware -- which is otherwise fabulous, by the way -- but since going with the router iChat has been pretty unreliable. I can't connect to my sister in England (I'm in Canada): we keep getting "insufficient bandwidth" errors (I'm on a very hi-speed cable internet connection, so I don't think it's me!). Moreover, AIM frequently kicks me off iChat with the message "Lost connection with AIM".
I've configured my router using instructions linked from this forum. I'm forwarding the following ports to my computer:
    5060
    5190
    5220
    5222
    5678
    16384
And while I can connect to other users okay (except my sister, it seems), staying connected it a real issue. Can anyone recommend a fix?
    Thanks,
    Aaron.
PowerBook G4 15-inch 1.67 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   The last PowerBook ever!

    Hi Aaron,
This last port should be a group of 20 ports (16384-16403)
iChat needs 4 ports from this group to do 1-1 Audio or Video chats.
Many Linksys have UPnP. It is found in the Administration tab. If you have this you could use this. Disable the Port Forwarding if you do.
Also port Forwwarding points to one IP/computer. If this is the case for you and you still have the device doing DHCP there is a cance you computer's IP has changed if it goes to sleep or is shut down when the lease time runs out.
Check this on your computer and the Port Forwarding settings.

  • Repeated lost connections when using WRT54g

    Hello everyone.
I have a Lynksys WRT54g v5 and a cable modem, my ISP is Virgin Mobile. Every half an hour or so my internet connection is lost and can only be regained by reseting my modem by turning it on and off. The lost connections appear to occur more frequently when the traffic is heavier. The interuptions occur even when I only have one wired PC connection.
If I connect the PC directly to the modem the connection works fine.
I have already installed the latest firmware, reset to factory settings, tried a MAC address clone as suggested in another thread but nothing has helped.
Is there anything I can try or should I just bin the router?
    Thanks for your help!

Version 5 and 6 of this router are of a terrible design. No amount of tweaking, reconfiguration or firmware upgrades will likely help with the disconnect problem. Earlier versions are of a much better design. I had disconnect problems with my version 6 router for over two month which could not be resolved by many attempts through Linksys tech-support. Even replacing it with 2 more version 6 routers did not resolve the disconnect problems which occured 3 or more times a day.
After I changed to a version 3 of the WRT54G the disconnect problem was instantly cured. Version 4 and below or WRT54GL ( which is really a resurrected version4)should work fine.

  • E4200 - Lost connection

I did my research, read all the reviews and finally setteled on this router. Setup was a piece of cake. Had it up and running within 5 min. All was good. 2 hrs later lost connection. Tried included software to re-establish connection. No go. Re-connected old dinosaur $59.00 linksys router and everything was good again. Not sure what happened. But it didn't work. I am no expert, all I know is that it stopped working. Going back for a refund tomorrow. What's great about it: Easy initial install What's not so great: It failed within two hrs

As per the scenario that you explained for that first of all upgrade the Router with the latest firmware which can be downloaded from the cisco website (homesupport.cisco.com)...
If you want to configure the router with the help of the CD so for that you need to unistall the existing Cisco Connect Software from the computer...
Reset the Router and power cycle the network...
Make the following connectivity Modem ----> Router -----> Computer... Then install the Cisco Connect Software... It will help you in configuring the Router...
But if you to configure the Router manually then it will be according to ISP ( Internet Service Provider ) setup... So in that case tell us who is you ISP...

  • WRT350N 1.03.7 and lost connection

I've had the WRT350N for months now. I check regularly for firmware updates because I have never been able to use N mode for more that 15-20 minutes without losing connection and then having to re-establish to reconnect. I have noticed in the firmware notes that the WRT350N is now "Draft 2.0 compliant" and "Fixed instability with some cable modem connections". It does seem like something was fixed, but sadly I am still getting lost connections after a while. If I am connected via 802.11n I occasionally lose the network. I have all defaults set except for having WPA2 security enabled. If I use MixedBG only this doesn't happen. I am using Macbook Pro (Core2) and both are verified connnecting in N mode. Modem: Model Name: SBV5220 Firmware Version: 2.16.1.3 Revision: 16 Vendor Name: Motorola MTA Firmware name: SBV5220-2.16.1.3-SCM16-SHPC Boot Version: 8.2 Hardware Version: 2 BCMA Software Version: 01.10 MIB Version: II GUI Version: 1.0 VxWorks Version: 5.4 Serial Number: 159658634855260305054007 Firmware Build Time: Feb 27 2007 15:22:00 I've struggled with this for months. I bought linksys because I've rarely had problems with their products. But I could have kept my old G router because I'm unable to do anything in N mode without constant resets. Help?

I have tried different channels. 11 and 9, 4 and 8. 802.11n does not work. I don't believe it is my cable modem or any other settings. All defaults on the WRT350N has this issue. I am connected with fully updated Macbook Pros And can verify they are connected at 802.11n because Network Utility says so... Linksys please help? I've had 2 chat sessions where I am walked through obvious troubleshooting and told "This will solve the problem... " It doesn't. It doesn't work. Please try testing with Macbook Pros and the Motorola surfboard modems. 802.11g works flawlessly but I bouth this preemium priced wireless router for N!

  • E1200 lost connection

I have 3 routers at home. The first one is from my internet provider. Then I have a dlink (in bridge mode) and the cisco E1200 (also in bridge mode). They are connected in this way: Provider - dlink - cisco - my pc.
Everything works fine for a few hours, then the cisco router has lost connection. My pc get an invalid ip and can't find the dhcp server. When I connect my pc to the dlink router, my pc doesn't lose connection.
The cisco router has also problems to get it's ip from dhcp.
    Is the router broken?

It is possible that the router needs a firmware update. Try to update the firmware that you can download from this link http://support.linksys.com/en-us/support/routers/E1200. Make sure to reset the router afterwards back to defaults by pressing and holding the reset button down. Re-configure the router as well after that. You can try to switch also the DLink and the Linksys router and see if you get the same problem.

  • SGE2010: stack member reboots with 'Lost connection with unit x reason 0x20097'

    Hi All,
Over the last 2 months we've had repeated issues with SGE2010 units in a stacking configuration rebooting randomly.
Prior to a member reboot occuring we see the following logging message via SNMP Trap on on the unit's internal logging via the GUI:
'Lost connection with unit x reason 0x20097'
We've made attempts at consulting Linksys/Cisco support regarding this 'feature' but aren't really getting anywhere with 1st level support who don't seem to understand much about supporting the device.
    The layout is thus:
    * 3 x SGE2010 units all of the same firmware version (3.0.1.0)
    * Stack configured in a ring topology
    * Cat6 cabling used on the stacking ports
    * 7 VLAN's
    * Mixture of trunking + VLAN tagging & standard ports configured
    We've tried the following:
    * Swapping out the member that reboots with another, but we get the same behaviour even with a new unit after about three weeks of running
    * Changing the cabling between the members, same behaviour
    * Upgrading the firmware from a previous version to the current 3.0.1.0
I'm not really keen on factory resetting the whole show & reconfiguring 144 ports by hand (the downtime will cost my users dearly, not to mention carpal tunnel from overuse of the web GUI)
Is anyone able to clarify what a reason code of 0x20097 is?
At least understanding what the error is may allow us to better understand the condition in which the switch decides it must reboot.

    Hi Lee,
The small Business support center (SBSC) is the place to get this problem resolved.  If the technician needs to get the error code looked at by a Product Engineer, then they have to escalate your call into the bowels of Cisco development.
Please call into  the SBSC again,  and try to reopen or open a new case.  This call has to be resolved or escalated.
You have the ability to say to the technician ,
    1.  "I want this call escalated"  or
    2.  " I want to speak to the Manager On Duty to esclatate the call"
If you have any issues, please  let me know.
My email address is   dhornste  at  cisco.com    (remove the spaces and replace at with @)
here is a link to get hopefully a local number to call into the SBSC.

  • Router Lost Connection to the Internet

Ok, my Linksys WRT54G router v2.2 lost connection to the internet today. Right now I am directly plugged into the modem to access this site, for some reason the routing is not picking up the internet connection when connected to the router. I can access the router admin pages through wireless and I cannot seem to figure out what to do. I have done power cycles for both the modem and router in tandem and nothing seems to work. Why is the internet connect not being picked up by the modem? Is there anything I can do? Thank you in advance.

Check the connection first from the Modem directly if getting valid Ip .... connect the router & try this setting ....
Access setup page of router ....
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
    button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
    - Click on enable
Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid Ip .... try going online

  • Configured router and now other computer lost connection to host computer.

Sorry if this message has already been posted/asked. I have a Linksys Wireless-B 2.4 GHZ Broadband Router. Everything was working great between the two computers until I elected to CONFIGURE the router. Well, the other computer lost all connection and I can't get that connection back. Linksys gave me info. the other computer's driver would ask for (SSID and some other very long code). Well, nowhere on the other computer's driver CD can I access any sort of page that asks for this info. I got after I configured my rouer. So, the host computer's still hooked up to the router and working great. The second computer, however, refuses to pick up the router's signal. Please help. I'm on hour #3 of working on this problem and I'm going crazy!

    Info needed:
► Is the wireless computer a laptop or a desktop?
► Is it using a built-in wireless card or a Linksys wireless card?
► If it is using a Linksys wireless card/adapter, what is the exact model number and version number of the device?
► The SSID and WEP key (the very long code Linksys gave you) can be either input on the WLAN Monitor or the Wireless Zero Configuration  software of the computer depending on your answer to the third question.
To use Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC)
► on the lower right hand corner of the wireless computers screen (systray) look for a single monitor icon.
► right click on it and choose the option that says "View available Wireless Networks" (1)
► If it gives you a list of wireless networks, choose your SSID and connect to it, when it asks for a network key, input there the very long WEP code.
    (1) On the other hand , if it says "Windows cannot configure.... etc etc" then the computer is probably using another wireless software.

  • Lost IP access to Linksys wireless router WRT54GS v.4. How to restore?

Apologies for the long post and multiple questions. If you can answer at least one of them, I will be appreciative!
While attempting to set-up wireless networking between my new Westell Model 6100G and Linksys wireless router WRT54GS v.4 (with most recent upgraded firmware), I lost access to the Linksys. When I hooked up the Linksys again via Ethernet to my XP PC with the modem no longer connected, I was unable to access it via IP 192.168.1.1. All I get is a blank web browser page (with the usual “diagnose, etc.” button). I assumed this is because the IP address conflicts with IP for the Westell, but I am also concerned if it is hardware failure. I have tried resetting the router, but no luck. I have tried ipconfig /all which gave me a different ip address. But when I tried to access the Linksys using this ip address, I was unsuccessful. I hooked up the router to a different pc with no present Internet access and tried IP 192.168.1.1, but still no luck. Trying the IP I got from ipconfig /all at this new pc failed as well.
Is there a chance I have a hardware failure? I had access last night when the linksys was at its original location (I only checked it once before turning in), but I seem to have lost access ever since I moved it closer to my desk and to a new electrical outlet. When turned on, the Linksys has green lights in the right places, so it looks fine, but, again, no access via IP.
If it’s not hardware failure, how do I find out what IP address the Linksys actually uses now if it is no longer 192.168.1.1? Or how do I change it?
Is a WRT54GS v.4 worth the trouble or should I start over and upgrade to a newer router?
Is Linksys the best choice with the Westell 6100G? The configuration procedures seem very complicated compared to my ease of router/modem configuring in the past.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

"_when I setup the Westell modem in bridge mode, will I lose my Internet connection?_ "
    Answering my own question: "yes."
I found what looks like a good step-by-step guide to hooking up a Westell 6100 to a Linksys
    router at:
    http://www.dslreports.com/faq/vz/4._Hardware#13600
It provides more detail and up-to-date illustrations than Verizon's instructions at
    https://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/HighSpeed/Networking/SetUp/QuestionsOne/87126.htm
(which appear to be for an earlier version of the Westell 6100), although they are otherwise similar. The DSLreports faq confirms that Internet and IP access to the modem will be lost during the setup phase. For a "newbie" at such linking, this bit of information is very helpful!
Thank you, Telcoguru, for confirming that I should have followed the instructions exactly from beginning to end before becoming concerned and skipping steps.
I will close this thread and wait for a long lazy day, to try linking the Westell and the Linksys again. If I need to post again, it will hopefully be with more specific questions about specific steps that haven't worked as they should.

  • Adobe cloud has lost connection with the server

Adobe cloud has lost connection with the server, can't get adobe cloud to work so I can re-install photoshop to fix a corrupted DLL file.

    *Adding new items/removing orphans*
Try iTunes Folder Watch or iTunes Library Updater. Folder Watch is much faster on the adding files front, can be set to run in the background and includes a useful exclusion feature, however it’s slow at removing orphans. iTLU is better for this although doing it manually after looking at a list of proposed removals generated by Folder Watch is probably faster still. iTLU can also be set to update iTunes when you've used 3rd party tools to change tag info.
You may need to amend the list of file types these programs look for. My list includes:
    .mp3 .mp4 .m4a .m4b .m4p .m4v .mov .wav .aif .mid .ipa .ipg .ite .itlp .m4r .pdf
Note the last 6 types may not be recognised as already being in the library so should either be omitted from the search or you can add (at least for Folder Watch) individual exclusions for files you know are already in your library.

  • "Lost connection with AIM" error message

    Hi all,
I've been a long-time iChat user — I've had very few problems, but now, at home, whenever I've been connected for about 10-15mins, iChat just disconnects with the simple iChat Connect Alert that the app has "Lost connection with AIM. The connection with the host was unexpectedly lost."
My Buddy List collapses to a "disconnected" header and I diappear from my Buddies' buddy lists. If I'm in the middle of a chat (video, audio or text), the chat continues uninterrupted, but I still disappear from people's lists as if I'd disconnected manually. Weird.
The net result is that I have to keep checking to see if I'm connected and then reconnecting all the time. A real pain in the proverbial.
It only happens at the house. My laptop doesn't disconnect if I'm at the office, for instance.
I have cable, coming in to Netgear 814v2 router; out to an 8-port gigabit switch, which then feeds my three main machines. All via ethernet cabling.
All machines have the same problem described above.
I've made the usual Quicktime setting changes.
I've listed the necessary ports in my Mac firewall settings (even though the firewall is turned off).
Each machine has a dedicated IP issued by the router (10.0.0.2 thru 10.0.0.5)
The router firmware is up to date.
What else is there?! I have no problems initiating or joining any sort of chat with my buddies around the world. I have excellent bandwidth. My internet and email are never interrupted 24/7.
Can someone help me? Pretty please?

    Hi
Try this log on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190
Go to IChat > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
    Set the port to 443.
    Log back in again.

i can no longer log into my ichat linked to my gmail.  right after opening up ichat, receive the following message:  lost connection with jabber.  the server has unexpectedly disconnected.  how to troubleshoot?  thanks.

    Hi,
There can be many reasons why the Login is "up the creek".
Any break in the network at your end whilst logged in will cause  an issue.
A sort of discrepancy between what iChat thinks the state should be and what the server thinks.
If they don't agree the server will refuse to accept.
A Crash at the server end which does not log you out properly will also do it.
Any file at any time can be come corrupted.
Luckily with the iChat .plists they are recreated if removed with an iChat Restart.
If it were AIM you can also get your Account Suspended  and this will not log you in.
(It tends to happen from Chat rooms where people notify AIM about bad behaviour (as they see it) and you have to apply to get Un-suspended).
Most of the big IM services use multiple servers.
Sometimes these go out of Sync.
In the case of AIM this happens when they remove Old unused Screen Names from people's Buddy List prior to making them available for re-registration.  I am not sure if this happens at Google.
You seem to be talking about an account that has worked at Work and having new computer at home.
As I mentioned the Priority thing you have not said that it has coincided with the new computer logging in  (this will kick the work Computer out of Google whether you are logged in  on the Web Mail page or in iChat)
IN addition to that iChat stays partially logged in for Off Line IMs
This is done in the background by a support app called iChatAgent
If your Computer is ON but ichat is not started people can still send you Messages.
Instead of saving these on the server until you login iChat will start up.
Depending if the home Mac is effecting the Work Login it may be holding sway over your Login.
Using your girlfriend's login may have booted her Off Line where she normally uses the name/login.
The AIM Side can be specifically set to allow Multiple Logins and therefore NOT allow them.  If this happens you get a warning and messages to do something about it.
You do not get these in any Jabber or Google Login as the Priority setting is supposed to take care of it.
If the Login works at the Web Mail Login and on one computer then the .plist on the work computer is the most likely issue.
There is a small chance that a Corrupt Buddy Pic (Home Folder/Library/Caches/com.apple.iChat/Pictures) may be the cause.
Set this folder to icon view and also use the Finder's View Menu > Show View Options and select icon view.
This should show all pics as their icon.
    Check that all display properly.
At this point I would try a COMBO version update install of the last Update you did over what you have.
This often corrects hard to trace things

  • Lost connection with server

For about two days now, the bbm application has refused to launch. It has been writing lost connection with server....can any one please help! It's really urgent

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
With a strong carrier network signal (e.g., not merely WiFi), I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (step should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive
    2) Reboot
Pre-BB10 Devices ONLY. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes.
BB10 Devices. Hold the top button down until the counter reaches zero. Wait for the device to be fully shut down (e.g., nothing at all displayed on the screen, no LED lights, etc.). Hold the top button until the red LED is lit. Wait through the full boot-up process. IF this fails, you can attempt the battery-pull method above, but it is normally NOT recommended unless nothing else works.
See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your mobile service provider for formal support.
    Good luck!
